I was trying to reset the whole device because I've uninstalled some stock apps by accident using Titanium backup. So I tried to recover my device through the recovery mode and start fresh. The stock apps was still gone...
So I figure I can use Odin3 v1.87 to flash the whole device with the firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
I thought that would most likely get me back to the factory settings with everything and start fresh. But then Odin needs PDA, PHONE, CSC to run and the firmware only gave me one P6800OZSLP7_P6800ZSLP7_HOME.tar.md5 I was like how can I use this...
Then I found a guide in XDA how to separate it out into the three sections.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...64&postcount=9
I was like finally i can start this fresh. Things got worse.... every time it flashes to modem.bin it got stuck. It can never go through that part of the flashing. I then want to give up and use CWM to recover it back. Now i dont have 3g anymore on my tablet. Can someone teach me how to reset the whole thing back to stock?
As you can tell from the firmware i used is an HK Galaxy Tab 7.7 in ICS.
Thank you so much!
stick the tar.md5 file in pda and flash with odin it will flash everything to the correct places. DO NO TICK DO NOT TICK RE-PARTITION

Okay where do I start...
I was given this phone from a friend, and it was working fine,
rooted and no problems at all...
Followed this guide to install the "Google Play Edition" ROM >> http://www.technobuffalo.com/videos/how-to-turn-a-galaxy-s4-into-a-google-edition-phone/
All was working perfectly, then in a backup process using titanium backup, the phone crashed...
I'm stuck in a boot loop with only the Samsung Galaxy logo screen.
I can enter Download mode, but not recovery...
Have tried every ROM that I can think would be appropriate to restore but to no avail...
Even tried philz touch recovery, nothing seems to be working...
Odin always reports either write failed or <ID:0/003> There is no PIT partition.
Have tried writing just the .PIT file from >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
Have tried to recover using Kies, firmware downloads then "Error - F" Phone cannot be located...
The phone gets stuck with a small dot of a process bar in download mode and this read out in the top left of the screen:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9505
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
CSB-CONFIG-LSB; 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: ENABLE
START [224, 1440]
ODIN: FLASH READ FAILURE
I'm at a total loss how to recover this, and if it's even possible to recover?
I would happily send it somewhere for repair, I have no warranty so i expect to pay, but no idea where to send?
Does any one have any advice or solution to this problem?
Much appreciated.

During your unsuccessful flashing of the google edition rom you have lost ROOT and the custom and or stock recovery.
That is why you cannot go into recovery mode.
You are lucky that the .pit file did not flash, you could have ended up with a brick (unusable phone).
The .PIT file is the partition information table, if that is changed or damaged you would need to send
your phone to samsung or other phone repair shop to get it fixed.
What you need to do is to download and Odin flash the stock-rooted i9505 rom which can be found here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877490003683
This rom is pre-rooted and you will be able to get into recovery mode without any issues.
Once this is odin flashed, be sure to make a nandroid backup before flashing other cwm/twrp zip file roms.
The "phone cannot be located" error most likely means that you either do not have the proper samsung usb
driver installed or you need to check the usb cable connections to your computer and phone.
Perhaps use a different usb cable and a different usb port will fix this issue.
Just in case you need it, here is the link for the official usb drivers for the samsung s4 phone:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...5728593/MCCI_WHQL_USB_Modem_Driver_4.40.7.exe
Good luck!

Yes 100% sure that I'm selecting PDA and Admin privileges.
Honestly I'm baffled I'm now charging the battery now to ensure the phone has enough to attempt this process again.
The battery icon fails to display a meter... Just an empty battery with a loading circle inside, assuming this is because the phone cannot access the images for the battery charging display? (The display that is present when the phone if turned off and you are charging)
I'm still stumped with what to try here. Any suggestions?
I'm sure if I can get at least back into recovery mode I could resolve it, but with odin failing due to pit each time it's just like banging my head against a wall :silly:

Thanks for this, have tried flashing with the rom that Misterjunky provided (with pit from samersh72) and fail
also tried the EE rom I found on the forum that samersh72 provided (with pit from samersh72) fail
tried flashing just the pit alone... fail

I'm now downloading the EE rom direct from sammobile (Although for some reason I'm sure this device was originally Orange network)
Will update the situation when all has downloaded and I can try again.

Reading more on this it does seem you are right, can you elaborate as to what is mh8?
Is this a specific rom? Reading what I could find it seems it will only allow custom roms on the device or a rom that is MH8?
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Going to download the latest BTU MH8 for UK and give that a try? Hopefully I'm making progress as the MH8 rule would explain why it's not working

be aware MH8 firmware will lock your bootloader, so you will not be able to downgrade.
your problem is in partition table. your solution is with the pit file flashed with your stock firmware.
if it fail, see odin troubleshooting in my thread

I believe I am already flashed to MH8, but I am not sure.
I have tried flashing the pit located in your sig for my GT-I9505 but it always fails?
Is there something else I am missing or not doing correctly? I have been following each guide and double checking the steps before I try anything.
No matter what action i take the pit flash with the file "I9505_pit file.zip" located here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
always fails? I have no idea why? Or which steps to take.

yes this is the right pit file.
Odin troubleshooting: If Odin accidentally gives you "fail" try the following:
- Repeat procedure.
- Make sure that all actions of Kies are disabled from task manager.
- Change usb port.
- Try another usb cable (make sure it is the original).
- Try another Odin version.
- Uninstall and re-install driver.
- Use pit file.
- Try another computer.

Have tried all except another computer, someone mentioned that an XP based machine works best.
Those are like gold-dust around here, I will try this process on a laptop and see if I can get it to work... That seem to be my best bet for now
Again kudos for all of the help and the quick replies. :good:
All hope seems lost....
After finally trying every method on this PC
(All versions of Odin I could find, all usb ports, original usb lead, kies is disabled, drivers un-installed/re-installed)
And having no luck...
I have had some different results on the laptop;
all other versions of odin I tried (v1.83, v1.85, v3.04, v3.06) just fail;
(again all usb ports, original usb lead, kies is disabled, drivers un-installed/re-installed)
And this read out...
flashing pit and rom > Complete(write) operation failed.
flashing only pit > Complete(write) operation failed.
However on Odin3 v3.07
flashing pit and rom > There is no pit partition
flashing only pit > There is no pit partition
and on v3.09
flashing pit and rom > re-partition operation failed.
flashing only pit > re-partition operation failed
I'm at a total loss now. I have a chance to send it back to cash generator as thats where my friend had purchased it from.
Is it worth doing so?
Any one have any thoughts or suggestions to aid this situation?
:crying:
I guess my only option here as I cannot get it to flash, is to either sell the phone in the state it is in.
Or send it back to Cash Generator to see if they will replace/refund it.
:crying:

yes this is the right pit file.

Hi guys, long time lurker here anyway i've always flashed my S4 with odin and not a single problem always flashed STOCK firmwares
but today i recently discovered a new firmware on the list for the GT-I9500 Exynos Octa (version) - this firmware to be in fact I9500ZNUCMI1
but now its bombed... it hanged and hanged at booting for 20 min then it shut it self off turned it back on 'the firmware encounter a problem' message popped up... i cannot go into recovery mode AT ALL (just download mode) so i thought i will flash my previous stock firmware known as I9500XXUBMG9 but now i cant even do that..... odin just gives me a god damn fail - FOR THE LOVE OF ANDROID HELP ME
- Kies is not running in the background
- USB connections are fine
- Cables are fine
So do i have to fear this is the end ? lol i cannot believe this happened to me on a STOCK firmware.... (lucky for me... all my stuff is backed up on sd)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you can get into Download mode, all hope is not lost. Uninstall and resinstall drivers, Odin, etc. reboot.
Odin back to stock, immediately boot into stock recovery, wipe data, reboot.
Done.

The good news is that Download mode is still working. AS long as that's the case, you can get it back. Just keep trying. Switch PCs, switch cables, switch ports, re download a different stock ROM, etc. do whatever it takes to try every variable you can think of.
Eventually, you'll find what's causing it and the ROM will flash successfully. When that happens, get immediately into recovery and wipe data.
(Remove the battery after it flashes, but it back in and hold vol-up+home+power.)
After the data wipe....
Reboot.
Like I said, Download mode means you can find a way to flash, but working with Odin to resolve these issues can sometimes be a PITA. I've had the same thing myself before. Just don't give up. Try to stay calm, and work your way through it. You'll get it eventually.
Edit: Just noticed that you flashed a CHINA firmware. (Why? ) You may be facing this issue because (I think) they use a different pit. There's a thread devoted to resurrecting the device with pit. Maybe check it out.

yes, make sure that you are using the right pit, put it in "pit" window in odin, and the firmware in "pda", make sure "re-partition" is ticked, start.

Hi All
I have the Hong Kong Note 4 N910U
PDA N910UXXU1AOC3
CSC N910UZZH1AOC3
As you may know, lollipop 5 is not out yet for this particular version. As I am experiencing some issues with the phone, I thought I'll just do a factory reset. However I've read somewhere here that I can use the other stock roms of the N910U eg; Taiwan 5.01 or New Zealand 5.0.1. So I thought I might aswell update to lollipop and then do a fresh factory reset.
So I downloaded this Taiwan one
PDA N910UXXU1BOD4
CSC N910UZZT1BOD4
However it keeps failing in ODIN.

I have identical problem. Same device, same stock firmware. Trying to update to BOD4
Dancing around:
I've installed last TWRP (https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote4exynos.html) from Odin after multiple failed attempts with N910UXXU1BOD4
Device booted normally (long boot with "updating applications")
TA-DA!
it booted to 5.0.1
It's creepy magic, but it works.
BTW, sammobile has newer version (N910UXXU1BOE3_N910UZZT1BOE3_BRI.zip)
I've repeated same procedure with newer rom: N910UXXU1BOE3/N910UZZT1BOE3:
Attempt to flash via Odin new firmware
Get error
Unplug device. Remove battery. Insert battery back. Boot to download mode again
Flash TWRP via odin
Successfully reboot to new system

My device booted to TWRP by itself without any problem, so no need to force it with keys or fastboot.
I forgot to mention, since TWRP is custom recovery You will trigger "knox void warranty 0x1", so if it's important to you - you need another way.
Does Your device boot to system after error with N910UXXU1BOD4? Cause my didn't.
Probably flashing original recovery will fix it also and will not trigger knox
I just want to clarify this just to be clear.
So after it fails you turn off, pull battery, turn on to download mode and install TWRP and then it will boot into TWRP and you just reboot and the BOE3 Taiwan firmware will just boot up? Sounds like magic, like you mentioned before.

Well after the error that odin gave me, i managed to recover my device using kies so my phones back on its original firmware all working. So, what is the method you used to install the latest taiwan update? Did you just go through the normal odin method or ? I dont really want to root the device, i just want to install the original stock 5.1 firmware.

yes. after error.
i "reboot" device to download mode (disconnect from usb, take out battery, put it back. volume-down+home+power).
in download mode I install TWRP.
if "auto reboot" is ticked in odin - it will reboot to new recovery (twrp) automatically. it (twrp) will perform some patching and will reboot device automatically. device will boot to system.
first boot can take a while.

Yes I went through normal odin with last taiwan firmware.
it did fail with error above.

when twrp is installed - system boots to new 5.0.1
KNOX is triggered!

I see. Well there should be a way of getting this installed without having to root/trigger the knox. I dont see how others are doing it through odin and our ones are failing. There should be a reason. Or it might be that this specific taiwan one fails for everyone? I did see some who flashed the new zealand one without issues..

probably it doesn't like that we're flashing different CSC.
the last image flashed is hidden.img, which if I'm not mistaken has CSC stuff
I'd expect that flashing this TAR without hidden.img or flashing original recovery instead of TWRP - will keep KNOX 0. But this homework is for someone else =)

Ok, Well if i do it the way you done it, will i get future ota updates or not ? i dont mind voiding warranty because the device is from hong kong, even if something goes wrong it will be a headache to send it back there and wait for it to come back. If I can get future updates wirelessly then i dont mind rooting it.
Nope. It rejects to check OTA. Manual update via Odin is still an option.
Probably, if flash original recovery and reset device, so it switches to new CSC - OTA will work. Probably.

Flashing a custom recovery does solve the problem... but when i tried the method below i noticied changes
BUT DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
it worked for me
Rename tar.md5 to tar
Extract tar using 7zip
Extarct hidden.img
Flash it via Odin as PDA/AP
It was succesfull for me
P.S: Knox is not triggered

Hi all, I have rooted my galaxys in the past, but I have ran into a problem with this device, I am now only getting ''firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again'', I have tried connecting to Kies, but all I get is an error message. I have tried to flash another rom, but I get error messages aswell, and I just stay stuck in the same place .
I have tried to bring my s5 to a local guy who roots and fixes phones, but he could not solve this. Now Samsung will not touch it, as I have voided the warranty.
Please can someone help me, I don't want to loose €400 of a brand new device if someone can help, I will show my appreciation in some way!! Please people, I am so desperate :crying:

this is what i get when i try to flash another rom
Which model S5 is it ?
Choose the correct PIT file for your exact model S5 (Example, mine is the G900F), from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52329647&postcount=2
Extract it, and add it to the PIT section in ODIN, at the same time as you add the stock ROM to ODIN, and flash them both at the same time
Not sure if this is what you have tried in kies3, but this is what worked for me before when things have gone wrong and i had nothing but a samsung paper weight:
Go into download mode and do a firmware upgrade and initialisation through kies3. You will need your serial number and model number( on the white sticker behind the battery. in kies3 go tools> firmware upgrade and initialisation, then follow the on screen steps. I used this when I soft bricked my note 2 when I had it, I personally find it's the best way to restore a samsung device.
If you have any issues, try checking for kies3 updates to ensure you have the latest drivers, and if you can get into the stock recovery on your phone, you could try doing a factory data reset and cache wipe which also sometimes helps.

The suggestion of @*Detection* will definitely work if done properly, but before doing that you can try this:
Extract the hidden.img from the firmware that you're trying to install, and rename it as hidden.img.tar, now open Odin, and load that file on AP and flash it. After turning on the phone wait around 5 minutes and it should boot up.
got the phone back from SBE (Samsung's Irish Partner) with a chip on it should i try kies3 before going with odin?
using kies3, the program keeps telling me ''device is not supported'' :crying:

what is smart switch? can I do any of this with a Mac? or should I stick with a windows?
Smart switch is for WiFi.... nothing to do with flashing ROMs
Use ODIN and PIT file as I posted originally

ROM should be .MD5
PIT should be .PIT
Extract the PIT file and the ROM once downloaded to get the correct files

just waiting for the ROM to finish downloading...
which version of ODIN do you recommend I use? thanks again!
The one in the instructions under the download on sammobiles site, I think it's 3.10.7
But you should be able to use any from 3.09 > 3.10.7
Newest generally recommended unless it fails, then try an older version
When you add a PIT file, ignore the instructions about re-partition, it needs to be ticked for PIT, it will set itself up automatically once you add the ROM and PIT
My samsung s5 brick while rooting and I'm downloading rom from sam mobile hope it will work and if not i will try smart switch method

What smart switch method?
Smart switch is a toggle switch in WiFi settings, to tell the phone to switch between Data and WiFi to keep the best signal
Where are people getting this crap from?

it seems to be an updated version of Kies, didn't work for me.
KIES added a setting with an identical name as a setting in Android?.... smart move
KIES is all but useless anyway, ODIN for updates, TWRP for backups
KIES says it has backed up fine, but trying to restore the backup, restores next to nothing
Hi, my brother-in-law tried to root his phone but probably didn't know what he was doing with Odin and Kies. I tried to restore the phone with Kies3 but the phone is not recognized and I can't get a recovery code. I've tried the default option of booting into recovery mode and flashing with Odin as Administrator. I'm flashing following a guide on this forum using [Auto Reboot] [F. Reset Time] checked in the options and loading [AP] [CP] [CSC] first. Others have commented not to use the [BL] file. The problem is when I try to flash it fails and I get this message:

I've tried everything I could flashing each one by one [BL] [AP] [CP] and [CSC]. Apparently the only one that successfully flashed through was [CP]. The phone can boot into recovery mode fine, when I start the phone normally it just hangs on the Samsung Galaxy S5 screen. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. I have pretty much GoogledFu'd all the information I can and am using the stock Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900A firmware. I have tried different USB ports, the stock Samsung USB cable, and an LG USB cable and that didn't help either.
To flash the firmware using Odin you need to put the phone in Download mode (Power + home + volume down) and not recovery mode. Select PDA/AP in Odin, select the firmware and then click start.

Yes, I already have done that and the only thing that writes successfully is the [CP] file. It fails to write to the NAND and does a FAIL! (Auth). Not sure what else I can do.
Alright I think I figured exactly what he did to the phone. Apparently AT&T locked the bootloader on Lollipop and his phone got upgraded to Lollipop while he was sleeping. So he tried to use Odin to flash the AP for the older KitKat back onto the S5 and this softbricked the phone. As far as I have read there is no way to downgrade back currently to KitKat to get root access. I'm trying to look for stock firmware for Lollipop but I can't find anything for this model. I assume if I flash it back to the latest Lollipop version functionality will be restored. Someone said something about flashing a kernel but I don't know. Not really sure what to do now since I can't find official Samsung S5 SM-G900A firmware to flash back either through the recovery or through Odin.

I am currently in the same boat. Please tell me you found a fix for this and if so, what was it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
@DigitalBeating and @Theamazingcorey
Here is an AT&T lollipop firmware.....
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424940454
G900AUCU4COI5_ATT4COI5_v5.1.1_Repair_Firmware
I found it (by chance) on a Russian hosting site. They say it's a 'repair' firmware which means it is more than likely going to be more than one file (it'll probably be bootloader, modem and OS) So you'll have to load each file into it's respective Odin 'slot'.
If I understand how repair firmwares work, it should wipe and format the data partitions (instead of simply overwriting them) as it flashes. This will give the best chance of a successful flash.....

I cannot thank you enough, that seems to have fixed my problem. I though I was going to be stuck with a paperweight, lol.
Would you happen to know if there is a way to root the the AT&T S5 with 5.1.1?
Glad it worked fella.....
With regards to rooting, everything I've read on XDA indicates AT&T Lollipop can't be rooted....and the possibility of downgrading to achieve root is non existent.......
But there's a LOT if information on XDA, and I'll be the first to admit that I haven't read it all........

@Theamazingcorey just out of interest, can you confirm what files were inside the zip?

Thanks for the info. Sorry I was not able to get back to you sooner, I've been slammed these last couple of days. Have family coming into town this evening and between work and getting ready for their visit, I haven't had time to think straight, lol.
