Please help me. I recently unlocked and rooted my Nexus 7 and then installed Glazed Jellybean. The ROM was fine apart from borders on the homescreen so I attempted to replace this launcher with the stock launcher from a Nandroid backup using Titanium Backup. Long story short I now have a device that won't go past the boot animation, and to further complicate matters:
1) I believe a general bug on the Nexus 7 is that you can't boot straight into recovery from the bootloader. I have this issue.
2) I cannot boot up to use Rom Manager to get to recovery that way, to reflash the ROM
3) I did not enable USB debugging within the new ROM before this happened so I can't use ADB commands to get to recovery
What can I do? Have I managed to brick an almost unbrickable device.
Please, please, please help me???

I am pretty sure that the bootloader has adb access in it, so try adb while in the bootloader.

I get "Errorevice not found" when trying to execute "adb reboot recovery"

Thanks for the replies but I posted too soon. I have it all sorted now having pushed a stock image in fastboot. Didn't realise fastboot worked independently of adb.
Boot loop is not as scary as f up the bootloader or recovery

Either from the bootloader or from the Nexus 7 Toolkit, this stupid thing won't boot to recovery. I flashed from CM10.1 to cm10 after wiping cache and dalvik...now I cannot get to recovery. System boots after going back to stock and even after the CWM flash, but recovery seems to be non-existent. Using the toolkit mentioned I flashed CWM, and I cannot boot to this.

Try downloading ROM Manager from the play store. It will install recovery CMW for you and then you can boot to it. If you are trying to boot directory to recovery using the key press it will not work unless you have the tab plugged into a computer.. the N7 is funny that way.

Have you tried upgrading the bootloader to 4.31? That fixed my problem.

I've already done the upgrade to Android 4.2 when I was on stock. CWM I had from the Nexus 7 Toolkit. Even when I boot to custom recovery via that it just skips over it. When I had CWM installed I could boot to recovery via the reboot menu though so I dunno what the issue is.

What version of CWM did you flash? Perhaps try downloading CWM 6.0.1.9 and flashing it via fastboot

I don't think I need to do all that. Do I need to re-lock the bootloader, flash stock, unlock and flash CWM again or something? Trying to figure out why this device is such a pain in the ass. Even from the bootloader I can't boot to recovery after flashing it!!!

Dang man calm down before you stroke out. Unless you did something seriously stupid it's not bricked.
And your ROM/flashing problems have nothing to do with the device itself.
Instead of rants, more details would help get you better answers.

It's booting now. Somehow flashing the stock ROM while locked soft bricks it.
So back to the drawing board, how do I get CWM back on here? This whole "adb push fastboot" yaddayadda is Greek to me.

Ok every guide I looked at said you can easily flash something to gain root again well in order to flash anything you have to have root so it doesn't make any sense and I didn't see any guides on this or related posts and I'm running 4.2.2

you dont need root to flash something, you need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery.....
i swear the word root has lost all meaning these days. everyone wants it, but it seems so very few actually understand what it is.
Pretty sure you just need to fastboot flash a custom recovery, then you can flash the superuser binaries by chainsdd (Google the package), then install superuser or superSU from the market.
Not familiar with nexus 7, but this is how I rooted a galaxy nexus. There should be a sticky in your device specific forum with links to the process and files.

I'm in the car ATM but when I turn my device off and I go into boot loader I push either up or down like 2 times it shows recovery mode I click it and it shows a android guy with a red thing in the center of him

thats stock recovery.....did you ever FLASH a custom recovery, like all the guides tell you to?
I tried downloading clockworkmod recovery from ROM manager but the download failed so I downloaded recovery manager from the play store and downloaded a recovery using the app it said the recovery installed

Dude,
As the guides tell you, and I lined out above, you need to FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY
unless you are already rooted, then downloading ROM Manager or 'recovery manager' from the app store doesnt do any good....
you need a computer to do this in fastboot mode.

I'm in the similar situation - I upgraded rooted 4.2.1 via modified OTA (original OTA was failing because of one apk) and now I have 4.2.2, but even though I had SuperSU which was ticked to "survival mode" (should keep the root), it apparently didn't. I don't have TWRP anymore, when I press power+vol dn I get the standard "start" screen (original recovery). Also, when I turn N7 on, it is displaying keychain that is OPEN, that means my bootloader is unlocked?
So my question(s)... my bootloader is probably unlocked? If I do the steps:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
boot into recovery
flash the supersu.zip root package
will I loose all data/apps? I ask because when I first rooted with toolkit, I lost all apps/data.
Also, where to find supersu.zip ? That is different to the installed SuperSU.apk, right?
Damn I can't make ADB work... I tried 2 computers.... Damn google for making this so [email protected]#[email protected]$ .... Constant problems, nothing else. Any clues? I ofcourse, tried kill-server and start-server, no matter what my device is showing offline....
Just checked with my phone (SGNII) and it is working just fine... no clue why Nexus is showing as offline..

I'm freaking out here. I was trying to install a kernel on my N4 using the Toolkit and somehow it said it was done successfully but then my phone got stuck on the Google screen and was never able to start up again.
I do have a Nandroid back up but unfortunately it's on my computer and not on my phone.
I tried using the toolkit AND adb to push the files to my phone but I get the same message: "failed to copy to sdcard: No such file or directory".
I'm completely stuck now and am panicking. Somebody please help!
And this is why we don't use toolkits.
Read up on how to use fastboot and how to boot into fastboot.
Then read up on where to find stock images and how to flash them in fastboot. Then do it.

Might also be helpful if you specified which kernel you flashed. As long as you didn't flash a kernel for a different device (e.g. nexus 7) you can definitely recover. To reiterate what others have mentioned, fastboot is your friend. There are numerous tutorials on his to install and use it. Check the stickies.

Yeah I can get into fast boot and even into CWM. I tried factory resetting in CWM but it still gets stuck on the Google screen.
The reason I used the toolkit and not CWM to flash the kernel is because CWM kept failing to flash the kernel, giving me some error and "(bad)" message. It is the kernel to improve Nexus 4 sensitivity directly from another thread.
Can someone please provide me with specific links or detailed instructions?

My main problem is I need to get my Nandroid backup onto my phone. For some reason, because it's stuck on the Google screen, it's not able to write to the sdcard. Can someone please help me get my files from my computer to my phone?

Thanks for your help. I've successfully follows the instructions and got back to Android 4.2.2.
I still want to restore my previous Nandroid though. Although I have placed it in the Clockworkmod backup folder, it's not being seen by CWM recovery. I tried backing up a new nandroid just to test and CWM sees the one it backs up.
Anyone know how I can get CWM to recognize the Nandroid which was done through the toolkit?

If the kernel wasn't installing in the first place you probably shouldn't of flashed it via toolkit

There isn't really anything wrong with a toolkit for certain things, I just think it's a bit strange he tried to use it for something as trivial as this.

Ok well to solve the problem I did download the stock images and flash them according to Effrants guide:

Then the reason that CWM wasn't recognizing my Nandroids was because I had them in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups, but they should be in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup.
I recovered everything and I'm back! Thanks for your help everyone.
I flashed the clockworkmod touch zip from my recovery.
It didn't give me the touch recovery, I thought "whatever" and booted back into my rom.
It wouldn't boot.
I went back into recovery and flashed PA rom and gapps.
They weren't booting, I decided to give them a few minutes.
It finally booted.
It no longer connects to wifi or tmobile.
I can't transfer files over usb.
Wugfresh's toolkit couldnt return it to stock.
I thought the recovery might have gotten messed up when I tried to flash CWM touch, so I flashed TWRP from Wugfresh's toolkit.
I used adb sideload to flash a stock rooted rom.
It still took forever to boot, and is still not connecting to wifi/network.
TL;DR I can boot into fastboot and recovery and even the rom but I have no network connection... help guys :'(
It says BASEBAND VERSION - N/A... could that be the problem? If so, how do I fix it?
This is why we don't use toolkits. Return to stock using ADB and do it again...

When I try to fastboot flash the stock image it says "does not contain recovery.sig" "does not contain boot.sig" and only updates the bootloader.
Did you dl the image right from Google?

Hi there, I'm currently rooted with 4.2.2 and I want to upgrade to the latest which I believe is 4.4.2, after a brief check I don't see the toolkits supporting this so can someone give me a clue on what to do? Is it upgrade to 4.3 then 4.4 and finally 4.4.2 or can I just jump from my current to 4.4.2?

If your on stock ROM and kernel and recovery just check for updates under about tablet system updates. If your running a custom ROM or kernel then you'll want to get to stock first. Also you can just download the factory image and adb flash it. Just search how to install 4.4,2 factory image with adb on nexus 10. There's plenty of guides.

I want to remain rooted though, also I'm trying to use the system update but it says restarting in 10, counts down then doesn't restart.
Since I want to remain rooted but just upgrade to 4.4.2 what can I do? I can't find an appropriate video.

Just update and root again. It takes a minute using one of the toolkits. Or you can just flash the super su zip which is even quicker if you have a custom recovery. Either way it's easy and quick

I can't use system updates, it won't restart after counting down from 10 it just hangs there. I also don't think the toolkits have 4.4.2, I'm pretty sure I downloaded the right files, I just don't know the commands to use in CMD.

Wugs toolkit has it.
Extract it and put it in the correct folder with Fastboot capabilities and use the commands
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (this'll give you stock recovery)
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img (only do this one if you want to completely reset and delete everything on your internal SD card. Don't do this step of you want to keep your files like pictures and music on SD card)

See this is what I don't get, it asks me my build, which is 4.2.2. And then asks to download the image, but I want 4.4.2 so do o just change it to that?

Yeah. Choose 4.4.2. Asking your build is just so when you flash kernnel and recoveries it flashes a compatible one. But since your just flashing stock images. Just do that. But again remember it'll wipe everything so backup your SD card to a computer first

If you use Wigs toolkit you can flash the new update if you do a complete restore with in root. Then you can re root. Just go to flash stock + unroot then click the images drop down down box. Pick the mantaray-manta : android 4.4.4- build KOT49H then click the button that shows automatically download. After install re root and restore. Backup everything first it makes a quicker restore.

First, go download the image:

While that is downloading, make a new folder on the desktop and name it FLASH, also for extracting the file once it is downloaded I reccomend total commander:

Once the zip file with adb and fastboot is downloaded extract the files into the FLASH folder. Now that we've done all this the image should be downloaded, extract the contents to the FLASH folder. Now open up command prompt. In command prompt type the following(excluding the quotation marks):
"cd C:\Users\*username*\Desktop\FLASH"
*username* Is the name of the user. Now turn off your device then boot your device into fastboot mode(hold the power+volume up+volume down buttons) once your device is in fastboot mode connect it to your computer. In command prompt type(again excluding quotations):
"fastboot devices"
After that you should see your nexus device in fastboot mode, if you have no important data and don't care about losing everything(me) you can just type this in command prompt(no quotations):
"flash-all"
But if that does not work or you do have important things, type:
"fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”
