If its really liquid RMA your N7. However if you are seeing something like light bleeding all around the the edges of the screen when you turn on the device I think it is some software issue.

My screen look gray i cant use it and when i enter any app i still see menu icon shadow . Its like plaza screen problem

Nobody gives a **** about your opinion.
OP: your screen needs to be replaced. Sounds like you have screen burn in and ghosting. It's a hardware problem and you need to return it to google, sorry to bring the bad news.

Man that's horrible. Yea replace that sucker. Hopefully they will send you another one before sending yours out so at least you can play with it some.
I don't know where you live or your money situation but you might be able to buy one locally and just return the defective one for a full refund. This way you can have a working unit asap while you deal with the bad one.
I'm just the opposite with Asus. Their hardware was always cutting edge and their device support is amazing. I had a TF101 and it was an awesome tablet. I had no issues whatsoever. The N7 being from Asus is partially why I bought it. They can have my money and support. I only recommend Asus for tablets because of the upgrades and support they give.

First picture I can see writing. The second picture is rather shocking how did that pass quality control? I agree that you should get full refund and buy a new one in store.

Did you do any kind of modding to it? Like removing the long strip of foam that sticks on top of a ribbon cable?

no nothing i just open the box and it was like this now i found thats when i use it for 5-10 min its become ok but when i press lock screen key its back to gray screen but there is ghosting .

I want to know something my device screen became white and gray when I lock the screen on or the device on and have ghosting when change from screen to screen or use something for some sec
BUT when I use it for more than 5-10 men without screen off everything become normal the screen color be good and no gousting

try using a pixel fixer and let it run for 30 min or so. if that doesn't fix it then RMA.

Nexus 7 Screen "Ghosting"
I have had the same issue with my N7. I noticed this issue from day one but paid no attention it because the device was delivered late in the day and the package was extremely warm I turned it off and let it rest for a few hours to let the device cool down.
Keep in mind 15 minutes after I got the device, it was unlocked and flashed with CWM Touch Recovery. BusyBox installed, Rom Manager and a Preview build of CM10. Today I was playing a game of Sudoku and 5-7 minutes after the game was over, I closed the app out. The background to the game was solid white and the Sudoku board was black boxes. After I closed the app out you could clearly see the Sudoku board on the screen as well as the numbers and everything. I turned my N7 off and turned it back on and the bleed through was still there.
I setup a call with Google and within 4 minutes I had two e-mails. One to print off a RMA and return UPS Shipping label and the other to order my New N7. Clearly they wont let you have a replacement on good faith. They told me they had to receive my defective device within 21 days of this e-mail it had to pass testing. The representative, told me they had to test it for water damage and make sure I didn't go tap dancing on the screen... However, I had to flash stock ROM, stock recovery and re-lock the boot loader. It was easy enough.
***Edit***
A good point to bring up. Google gives you two options for returning your defective Nexus.
1. No payment method
a. Return via RMA Kit
b. wait for Google to test the device
c. Receive a replacement Nexus 7 after testing is complete
2. Payment method
a. Click on a link e-mailed to you
b. purchase your new nexus for 199.99 no S&H or taxes (This is just a hold until they receive your old nexus and test it)
c. return your nexus via RMA (you have 21 days to return or they charge you for the new nexus)
d. once Google tests and verifies your device is covered under warranty, you receive a credit to your account
I hope my new Nexus 7 doesn't have the same issue.

HTC G2 "Known" Screen Issue - ARGH

So the phone worked fine, I brought it downstairs, start using the computer, check my phone and the screen is black with some lines, and what looks like a crack on the bottom near the buttons.
I called T-Mobile, who said it was a known issue, since corrected in newer shipments, that they usually replaced completely in-store, but there's no stores up here in Montreal. So then two reps both separately told me to call the factory/manufacturer HTC, who then told me that they don't cover screen problems, at all, ever. All they can do is initialize the normal off-warranty repair service for like 200$ and be phone-less for about a month.
I find this completely unacceptable and could use some help or HTC/TMO reps on the forums? This is my first phone and I'm not used to dealing with this...

my fiancee's G2 screen went out last night, it looked like it shattered from the inside because there was a 1 1/2 inch crack under the glass. she says it was working perfectly fine, put it in her purse and a few mins later it wouldnt turn on. she didnt drop it or hit it against anything so i have no idea what happened. exchanged it at radio shack today (only had it 10 days) and the guy said it had to have been from a heavy blow. now i know she is capable of abusing phones but i believe that she didnt this time.

i had the exact same thing happy to my phone last night. i have only had it a few days. this is not a good sign for the G2 phone. i barely used it; it was never dropped, etc. there appears to be some kind of crack under the screen near the home button on the phone (maybe from pushing that button?) and the screen is out. the phone is still functional and can get calls, etc, but i cannot see anything. i am going in today to get it replaced but this worries me a lot about owning this phone.

It looks pristine when the screen is off. I'm not knowledgeable about screens but it must be an inside layer, broken from a pressure or heat problem?
i have exactly this issue, and have ordered a new lcd to replace it with, looks like the digitiser is fine.

Pressure... unlikely. Heat and cold contributes a lot when it comes to glass. My old phone cracked when it was really cold back where I use to live.

Mine did that too. Called T-Mobile and they made me add the $6 monthly warranty and said i could remove it from the account after the swap
They made me reboot the phone and then check the moisture sticker thing under the battery. I just told them what the screen was doing and they replaced it. I had the insurance but I didn't have to use it for the warranty replacement.

Did yours have a little crack near the buttons, but not the actual glass?
I have the same EXACT issue in the same EXACT spot. Noticed it when i took my g2 out of my pocket. The glass has no cracks scratches or anything!!Called tmobile the next day...the guy told me to take it a store to determine whether its "cosmetic" damage or not. Went to the store and they said its physical damage and wouldnt be covered. Called customer service at the store and she explained to me that this was a known issue. She called it "lcd bursting". Ordered my phone right then and there. Once i get the phone she was i have to send in my old one so that they can determine whether its covered under the warranty or not. If not its $279. Have any of you guys gotten charged the $279 if you had the small crack by the home buttons??
I never had this issue before... I have a little mytouch bag for my g2 and never put in my pockets... had this phone for hell of a long time. Wish you don't got to pay dude and if they do make you pay start b***hing at them

I sent it in and they want me to pay 190$. And they didn't even know about ANY known issues. I told them to have their "technicians" recheck it with specific instructions.
my screen arrived today, and its all fixed. If worst comes to worst you can buy a new screen and do it yourself for so much cheaper than that.

Walmart (in-store/on-site) N7 buyers - a few return & protection plan questions

Hey XDA'ers -
So I have a SSN : C60K (June Production Line) N7 16gb/$249 (flat price, no tax) tablet purchased in-store/on-site from Walmart - approaching 2 weeks soon.
I do have a bit of screen lifting and flicker (in low brightness) as per the hundreds/thousands of posts; similarly addressing these issues - It's been bearable, but I was planning on returning it next month and swapping it for a more recent, (perhaps September or October production line) unit.
My Walmart is super-cool in returning things, as are almost all of them - especially if it's a notable defect - swapping for the exact item.
I didn't purchase the Accidental Protection Plan at time of purchase, but I plan on going there in the next day or so (you have 30 days to do it upon purchase) - it's only $30 (29.99) for 2 years... not that bad of an investment for anything potential... I haven't had the chance to really delve into what the plan covers, and I am assuming it might go through a company like Asurion (I might be wrong)... In any case... depending on how you pitch it back to Walmart on a physical visit to customer service, they might not even bother with the returning your defective unit to get repaired/replaced and just have you go to the Electronics Department and get a new one; if they have it in stock.
I didn't want to just return the N7 and wait for the next lineup; as I've been enjoying it... and random (but not highly accurate) chatter has made me wonder if google/asus will be actually working on revised hardware - At least we have a little better idea on how to tell the newer production lines by the SSN/serial :
(for those who haven't caught the info on it) briefly :
Code:
C is the year 2012
8 Is the month
0 Is the run
K Thousand
Anyways, I'd like to hear any experiences specific to Walmart - regarding the return process and ideally, what the protection plan is all about - I'm sure the Walmart.com (e.g. mailing back, etc... might be a bit more challenging so to speak) versus going to an actual store. However, it should be relatively easy albeit purchasing online to bring it back to a physical place to do the above mentioned things I had shared.
Okay - thanks!
Just checking in - had to make a decision in a day /
Perhaps if mods thought this would be better placed in the general section versus this - I figured the Q&A section was for placing unsure topics; along with courtesy to the other established N7 device sections.
I didn't go for it myself, but it's not a bad deal. I just like living on the edge. If it helps you sleep, go for it.

I purchase my first nexus 7 from Walmart in-store . It had screen lift too. I got my money back the next day and purchased from office depot which don't give refunds only exchanges the first 14 days . Walmarts have really lenient return policy . They didn't even ask what was wrong with it . The one from office depot had screen lift also so I exchanged it and the one I have now is almost perfect.

The most effective way to test for screen lift is to hold the device with the right side facing you. Look across the display and use the left bezel as a silver horizon line. If the black display is higher than that line at any point, you'll be able to see it.
Here is an example of a perfectly flush display, looking across the device from the right side.

Press firmly on the left side of the display to see if there's any distortion. Listen for any sticking or clicking sounds. Does it feel spongey?
Ok thanks! Well the right side is fine but the left when looking at it the same way I do see some of the black above the silver bezel :/
Yea I can actually feel it a little bit when trying to that is

Many people here are perfectly happy with a hair of separation, but since you purchased from Walmart you would be dealing with ASUS for warranty if it got worse over time.
I'd return it, but if it has none of the functional problems like rippling along the edge when pressed, or making noise, then for some people it may not be worth the trouble.

And you were super happy 5 minutes ago before you found out yours had screen lift. It is so minor that most people don't realize or notice it. But once you do it is a pain. Taking the back off and inserting a home-made washer under the screen fixed mine.
There are tons of threads on it the screen issue. Walmart is awesome at taking stuff back.

Lol very true! I just don't want it to be a future issue. Then again I have 3 years extra insurance on it.
But I can push on the spot in the middle of the left side and it will stay down for like 5 seconds and then come back up. But it's so small of a lift if at all. Not sure a hair would fit next to it

Walmart is extremely good about returning items. They hardly ask questions and the whole experience is completely painless. The worst part is standing in line waiting for 1 or 2 cashiers to get a whole line of people taken care of lol. I think I might go in and purchase the 2yr protection if the small print checks out.

Nexus 10 Screen Refresh Issue?

I've noticed mostly while browsing (especially in portrait mode) that the higher up on the screen from the bottom of the device, the faster it seems to refresh. This is painfully obvious when looking at something with straight lines as they will bend. After closer examination, this happens on everything with the device, not just browsing. I have force GPU rendering enabled, and tried turning that off, but it made no difference.
Video showing what I'm referring to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib5_7nmUtDQ
Notice how the left (top) portion of the screen responds faster to refreshing from scrolling.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
That is really strange.... Not doing that on mine.
Well, if I can get a few of you guys to confirm this is exclusive to me, I'll me exchanging it. It should be painfully obvious in portrait mode on anything really. Just scroll at a few different speeds and you'll be able to tell.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
Definitely not happening on mine, either. I'd initiate an exchange process immediately.

They authorize a hold of the price of the tablet on a card, send you a replacement; you send the defective unit back to them, they lift the hold. That's how common Google warranty replacements go (apparently they actually used to just send the device without requiring the hold, but some people took advantage of that and kept both devices... sigh)
Might be able to request for you to be able to send the tablet to them and then they send you a replacement, but idk.
Never saw this one in my N10.. but sometimes.. seems saw the app icon flashing when i turn it on from lock status.. not sure..
Mine doesn't do that. Since it looks possibly software related, i'd recommend that you do a factory reset, and check to see if it still does that while its still vanilla.
FYI, If you report the issue and initiate the replacement order per the support on the same day, they'll email you a paid UPS return label with an expiration date about 14 days. The replacement should arrive much earlier than that, so you can use the packaging of the replacement unit to return the defective one, if need be. This is from my experience.
Well I got the RMA started, but of course I wasn't planning on having to have another $400 available, so I can't go through with the RMA for at least 2 weeks (who knows if they'll even allow it then). The rep suggested going through Samsung's warranty program, but I figure they're going to send me a refurb so I've declined for now. I guess I'll request to do an RMA without having an authorization, but I can't see them doing it.
I'll try a factory reset, but I just don't see how this is software related. Such a shame too, because everything else about this device has been perfect.
Just to make the problem even easier to see, here's a screenshot from a video.

This was an email I sent to myself of essentially a straight dotted line. However, in the image you can see two partial lines. I was scrolling back and forth to show the differing refresh. The line forming on the right shows the most recent screen information starting to be displayed, while the left is slowly disappearing, top to bottom just as described originally.

The person I spoke to told me I had a year to put the $400 on hold. Not entirely sure if this was true or not though since I thought Play Store purchases had only 15 days?
Perhaps I had a misunderstanding of the way the Play Store works. The rep just told me I have a year to file a warranty claim and the 15 days is just a buyer's remorse period. While that's fine and dandy, I'm still bummed that I have to wait awhile before I can go through with the RMA since advanced RMA is the only method they offer.

I was experiencing the same thing see my thread I started
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999152
it's software not hardware, all displays do it just more noticeable on this tablet due to high resolution and gpu drivers probably not mature enough yet to handle faster refresh or graphics rendering. But this is definitely the same thing i am seeing on my tablet, makes me dizzy to use in portrait mode due to that wavy bendy effect. So I am using it in landscape.
I have an Ipad 2 where i didnt see this until i went back to check on it after seeing it on my nexus and if i look closely i can see it on my ipad 2 as well just its not very noticeable so i never paid attention to it. so its definitely software related due to gpu drivers. im hoping they get optimized with time if not i will have to sell and get ipad 5 when it comes out.

I tried different browsers and its the same on all. but definitely more noticeable on chrome.
If others are experiencing this, then I'm probably not going to return the device. Everything else about it is flawless (minimal backlight bleed, no dead pixels, back cover doesn't make noise). So if some more of you could chime in here just to be sure, it'd be great.

I feel the same way. Everything else is perfect. That's why I'm holding out hope the drivers get optimized and the effect will no longer be that noticeable. I just looked back at my ipad 2 and it has the same effect. But I have to really look for it to notice it. Before I never even knew it did it because it renders much faster due to lower resolution so it's practically unnoticeable.
I have it on my Nexus 10 as well. It has to do with the way the screen refreshes, top-to-bottom. When the tablet is rotated, it becomes the left (or right) edge and the wobbly effect can be noticed when scrolling. Pretty much any device with this high resolution of a display is going to have the issue. I just looked at an iPad 4 and it does the same thing.
I have this too in dolphin browser. Don't notice in landscape but do so in portrait. Not sure it is a refresh problem though, Windows Phone 8 does a similar effect on purpose for example. Either way I have no problem with it.
i notice the wobble as well
It does it on mine too. In both Boat Browser and Chrome. Just use it in landscape, its what it is designed for

Screen Yellowing

I don't really see many people talking about the screen yellowing on the Nexus 10, yet I think it is a more important issue than the backlight bleed. I have been living with the backlight bleed just fine, however the uneven screen color is absolutely terrible. I will post up some pics later when I get home.
Who else has this issue? There isn't a day that goes by where I don't notice it. It's literally the entire right half of the screen. I can confirm that it's a hardware issue by simply rotating the screen 180 degrees, and now the yellowing is on the left.
How would I go about getting Samsung to fix this? They keep telling me it's normal and within spec...
Thanks!
Edit: here are the pics.

The backlight bleed is yellow, lots of it can cause screen yellowing, they should replace it because of that.

Not to be mean but that should have been returned on day 1. Unless it has occurred over time which is a scarier prospect. If you are out of the play store, walmart, or staple's return window samsung is your only option. From what I've read the samsung option comes with mixed results.
if you are within the return window, return the hell out of it.I don't know why I still check this forum, but I do, so there you go.
RMA it. Samsung supposedly is sending my repaired unit back for display issues, so we'll see shortly if they fixed mine.

The sad part is I never noticed it until I hopped on this forum and read all of the complaints... by then it was too late to return it.
This really sucks because I love the tablet, but the screen turns me off every time I turn it on. I had an absolutely horrible experience with Samsung the first time around. A month later and I get the tablet back with absolutely nothing done to it. Ridiculous. I may eventually try again, and maybe pack in a bunch of pictures of the problem with the tablet when I ship it out so the technicians can see how bad it is.
If I end up getting it sent back to me with nothing done to it again, then I really have no choice but to sell it on eBay. The second picture is proof enough for how annoyingly obvious it is.

Sent from my mom's Nexus 7
I received my Nexus 10 few days ago. I live in Poland (it's almost impossible to buy Nexus 10 here whereas Nexus 7 can be found in almost every Polish shop with electronics) and it was a gift from my family in the USA.
My serial number starts with R32D103A. My screen also suffers from slight light bleed. My back panel cracks when I gently squeeze the device (for example to lift it). But I can "accept" these issues.
What I can't accept is that my Nexus has the problem mentioned in this thread: the right half of the screen (in landscape mode) is more yellowish than the left side (more white). As a result the screen seems to be more dim or dirty there. It is very visible on white and (especially) grey background.
Did anyone found some fix for this issue?
I tried contacting Google, but Play (Nexus 7, 10 or 4 division) is not avaible in Poland, so I could not find ANY e-mail address to any person that takes care of customer service regarding Google's devices. I tried contacting Samsung in Poland, but I was told that they do not handle Nexus 10 repairs as this device is not distributed by them in my country. So... I contacted Samsung in the USA, and I was told that they do not repair Nexus 10 devices! Samsung rep gave me some phone number to Nexus 10 team, but when I asked him for e-mail address, he said he has no idea what it could be. I cannot phone USA about my Nexus 10, because I would have to pay fortune (litearlly) for 30-60 minutes conversation.
I'm stuck.
Perhaps someone here has some e-mail address to Samsung Nexus 10 repair team/division?
Here is the screenshots of my yellowish Nexus 10 (the color tint is much more visible in reality):
Sucks bro... Your only option is to send it back to your family in the states and have them return it... Gonna cost a lot in shipping tho...

As I've already said in this thread, I have exactly the same problem (yellowish right half of the screen). Did they tell you what causes this issue? WHO keeps telling you it's normal? Do you have it on paper (as an e-mail)? Perhaps we could make such statement public (on some blogs or sites), so that Samsung has to respond in some way...
Did you decide to send this device for repair again? I can't fix this in my country and I am afraid to send Nexus 10 to America and receive it in the same condition 2 months later.

My NewEgg Expirience (Bad)

Well I ordered My G-Pad on 12/31/2013 and payed $300 to get it here with free shipping. Arrived today and must Say Im fairly Disappointed. The item came and as most was not sealed but I didn't mind that. It had dust all over the screen and has 2 scratches on it. You would think they would wrap these things up or something. Anyway turned it on an I immediately noticed the light bleed on the screen at the bottom. Immediately decided this one is going back as soon as possible. I also have scuffs on the back of the G Pad even though its supposed to be new. Tired Wiping it of to no avail. Hopefully this doesn't take to long to go back and come back to me its highly annoying. :crying:

What do you think about the light bleed, is it that bad ? Or is it not worth returning and going through the whole return process ? Anyone with similar results ?
That sucks. I though I might have a light scratch on the screen but it was acutely in the protective film on the screen. Once I pulled it off I could see the screen was perfectly fine. I agree 100% it does seem like there should be something else covering it when you open it up.
On a side note when I got my nexus 7 for christmas it had plastic film all the way around the device kinda like a clear envelope. I went through two nexus 7 before giving up and ordering the g pad

Yeah I would have ignored the scracthes it's the light bleed that's really bothering me. Yeah the scratches are on the metal on the back not the screen. From what I saw I love it though. Going to request an RMA.

Sorry Man..
Your Pics clearly show this was not this unit's 1st time leaving this vendor..
May I offer a suggestion?
Return this unit for a REFUND.. save or come up with $60.00 more and purchase a Google Play Edition from Google.. If you are not able to walk into a BestBuy to make your purchase. Come'on there is no question this unit was used and returned. just pay a little more and get one from either Google or BestBuy that will more than likely be a factory fresh unit.. That's my suggestion anyway.

Did your charger come wrapped like New? My screen was also dirty and it had a hand print on the back, but it did have the screen protector on it. I have no problem with the screen though, it looks perfect.

Truthfully that light bleed is dependant on what brightness you are at because if that is on greater than 50% brightness you likely will not notice it on anything but an all black screen in a dark room. Usually in this lighting environment I tend to have brighness down below 20%and light bleed is near invisible

I just looked I Have light bleed also but I think I'm going to just deal with it.

I don't know about it being used. I just got mine in from Newegg today, and it had the same dust, granted no scratches. The scratches were probably from someone carelessly checking the boxes to check for colors. Pretty annoying, and unacceptable, but I doubt it wasn't new.
Hopefully you get a better screen as far as bleeding goes. It honestly didn't seem as bad as others I've seen, most tablets have some amount of bleeding if you have it in the right light.

Eh..
That much dust to flip the cover up and check color
What type of room then are they checking color in? That's a lot of dust to just be flying around..
That's why the best option is for the OP to just pony up, walk into a BestBuy ( if available ) and check the unit immediately onsite.. if after turning it on there is lightbleed beyond what the OP is comfortable with.. he can pick another unit right on the spot and walk out 100% satisfied.. That's what I did. and things work out quite well.

Hello friend.
The scratches at the back of the device is sign of this tablet at least having been laying on a table and being picked up..
As for the dust on top of the screen protector, that could be anything, it could have been sliding in there thru the unsealed package, it could have been in the shipping box.. Or the room they kept the stock in could be dirty as well..
The light bleed at the top right corner of the screen, on the picture, is horrendous. I have not seen anything as bad since my Nexus 7 2012 edition.
I am sorry about your experience.
RMA.

FWIW, I've bought lots of stuff from Newegg over many years. I've generally had a good experience with them. The only issues I've seen in the past is that sometimes they didn't package things well for shipping (hard disk drives, e.g.). I bought my G Pad from them last month, and it arrived in perfect condition with no defects that I've noticed. (My G Pad has the blue line, but I don't consider that a defect.)

That is exactly what mine looked like from newegg, received today. The previous one I had from Best Buy looked the same minus the white dust.
Wow, I would cancel my order immediately and get the Google Play Edition from the Play Store. Mine was in sealed package. Works out of the box very very nice. yes, you will spend a little bit more money but it will be well worth it.
there is little doubt that the one you received was a returned item that had been returned for the same reasons you don't want it.
This is exactly how I received mine too. 2 small scratches on the back plastic and also unsealed, looked like it was opened already.
Didn't have any dust though.. Came from a Belgian online shop Conrad.be
Not gonna bother sending it back though..
Fyi best buy has them for 299 again. I will be going in for a price adjustment!!

Update !
They sent out my RMA and I got it today. Unlike others hey didn't learn from me and still sent an unsealed one. Dust was still all over the screen cover lol. There were some smudges again on the back so this must be a manufacturing issue. Plus, I don't want to bother to send it back again and wait another week+. The light bleed seems to me to be less than the first model I had so Im satisfied for now. Thanks Everyone , its a great tablet so jump on it while you can.
