Can't move large collection of small files to Nexus, any ideas? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I installed MAME4Droid on my Nexus 7 and I try to move over my 0.37 collection and I get the Windows Explorer error "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected".
Any ideas? I can move the ROMs over 300 or so at a time but that will take ages upon ages. I've tried wi-fi transfers using ES File Explorer as well but that drops out too much and actually corrupts the MAME4all folder, leaving it inaccessible.

HTC Touch stuck in Windows folder

Pls need help urgently
My HTC Touch is stuck in the windows folder in file explorer , tried soft resetting and battery removal yet explorer starts in windows folder and am unable to use explorer, have no alternate explorer software either nor do i have any registry modification software. cant afford to lose data from hard resetting.
Please guys, this is an emergency
Thanks in advance...
Me too!!
My phone does the exact same thing. Ditto. It just hangs in the default explorer mode under windows....and I have to end it from the task manager. It was annoying in the begining but then I got resco explorer.....works a million times better than the stock file explorer, but the fact remains that I still have the same problems with it. I would recommend you install resco explorer and continue so tht it doesn't hamper your phones usage.
Inputs from anyone on this really appreciated.
It is very slow for me too. Do you still see the icon moving indicating that the device is working at opening the folder? If so, You just try to be patient and let it work itself out. If it is really getting stuck, try hooking up your device to your computer using activesinc and see if you can access the windows folder that way. If you have been saving things to the windows folder, then move them out of the windows folder into another folder so that there isn't anything else extra in the windows folder that doesn't need to be there. Do this through activesinc using your computer. Also, if you have other applications running in the background while trying to access the Window's folder, you will see a slow down in performance while it is trying to access the files in the folder.
The device just hangs entirely....I dont see anything on the screen. Just the busy icon...and I've tried giving it some time as well. Left it untouched for upto 15-20 mins at times. And still no go. Would it take longer than that? Besides when I try to end the program from the task manager, it shows the program not responding pop up as well indicating the application has hung. I can access the windows folder through activesync without any problems. Is this like a bug or a known issue or something like that? I used to think its only my device...alas....Im not alone!
Actually it is not stuck, frozen or hanged ... it just takes a loooooooooong time
That happened to me, use some other sw like GS Finder (freeware)

I havn't heard of any known bugs or issue with accessing Windows folder. For me it usually takes a couple of minutes minimum to open the Windows folder. All other folders open immediately. Maybe you should try a different app for viewing your files as already suggested. I really can't say what is causing your problems. Could be that you have an app installed that is causing conflict. I don't know how much better a different app would work for viewing your files; however, it may be worth a try in your case. It seems unnessarily long to open the windows folder. I have tried using different programs to access my windows folder and it still takes at least 2 minutes to open the folder to view the contents. I avoid it as much as possible.
also - Don't let your phone go to sleep when your device is trying to open the windows folder. I have found that once when I let my device go to sleep while working on opening the file that it did freeze and I needed to perform a soft reset.

This happens to me too. It just takes a long time loading all the files in windows, it's not stuck. But what an odd problem :S
hello
It's slow .. always has been .. always wil be ....
It's slow in the Diamond...
Touch HD ...
It slow as it has to read all the files on thre ROM .. yes it should be faster .. but the so should life !!
It works!
You know guys....all this time....I thought my device was being retarded and thats why file explorer would hang....but after reading what all of y'all had to say....I decided to give it one more shot...and I tried it...and left it on.......and after wht seemed like an eternity.....I was finally able to open the windows folder (ofcourse I had to wait approx 25 mins which I think is insane...coz no one in their right mind will ever wait that long to open a single folder). But it did work. And so I guess in conclusion, it doesn't hang....it really does take a s*** load of time to open. Now I dare not go into the windows directory using file explorer
Thanks you guys.

Try using one of the newer cooked ROMs, it should only take 10-20 seconds now.
guys, i also faced this problem several times , it takes loong looong time to load.. anybody has resco explorer ?
I had same issue but got fed up with it and reset my Touch and reloaded all software. it loads up windows folder much quicker now say 20 seconds compared to -well in the end it was not even opening it. I think its like windows - after time the registry gets clogged up and it just grinds to a halt. i am always trying out new software which never fully deletes.
HTC Touch stuck in Windows folder - solution!
I believe we have found out why the HTC Touch is stuck in the windows folder in file explorer. I inadvertently had the unit sort by "file type". When I did that, the problems began. As soon as I reset the sort to "name" - everything went back to normal (fast). I was ready to take the thing back when we noticed the difference in speed between his phone and my phone.
i used to have this problem with the original rom but it usually was about 2 miutes (not 25) but after CID unlock higher ipl/spl (3.07) and onx 4.2.1 rom it works fine
I had the same problem, and i solved it by overclocking the processor to 221 Mhz and left the file explorer do its work till it read all the files in windows folder then it was returned to normal... then i changed the directory (tapped on UP)... and voila... it's back to normal...
Just got the pro and my windows folder was working fine until i sorted by type accidentally (i have meat thumbs) and it just hung for awhile, so i shut the screen off and let it do its thing. Came back after searching the forums and seen an error "An Information Rights Management error has occured. If the problem persists, reboot your device or re-activate Information Rights Management by connecting to your PC" i had it plugged in before this and when i was done copying this to the device i just unplugged it the quick way rather than going to disconnect USB device in the taskbar. Hooked it back up to windows and released it through the taskbar, now it works fine in the windows folder. Dont know if this would solve ur problem but it may help figure out the problem.

N10 and creating new folders through Windows

I've never seen this on my N7 or NS4G (MTP enabled Kernel)
Plug it in, open up explorer (Windows 8), browse to your Nexus 10 and try creating a folder. Doesn't matter if it's the root of the Nexus 10 or 10 folders deep. Just create a folder. It will hang there for a good 20-30 seconds or so before it creates it. You'll think Explorer froze but it didn't..
Now.. Create another one.. You can now instantly create a folder..
Let your device idle for a bit (5 minutes or so) and try it again and you'll have the same 20 second delay before the folder is created.
Any clue what the deal is here? It's only creating folders. Deleting them, copying items is instant from the moment you plug it in.. Creating a folder though has some weirdness to it.

I noticed this as well. I'm thinking MTP has some weird process for updating new folders or something in Explorer, but I have no idea.
Good. I'm not going crazy then. Thank you! The easy work around is create the new folder on your C:\ drive and then just cut and paste it to your Nexus 10 to avoid the 30 second delay..
The 30 second delay seems odd.
I made folders yesterday on my N10 and no delay spotted.
There is one thing with MTP I hate though, I can't multi-transfer with it.
I'm thinking of using hte PCP or what it's called because when I transfer stuff to my HTC Legend which still needs to mount the devices I can copy multiple files simultaneously.

File transfer issue

I downloaded a 1.2GB file to my nexus 4. upon connecting it to windows to transfer it over I don't see the file.
I see the other files in the folder but its like the larger file is hidden. Is there some file size cap that prevents it from showing in windows?
Edit: turning on and off usb debugging has no effect, still only see various files except for larger files
anyone?
that happens alot, no file cap, i fix it by rebooting 2 or 3 times to get it shown, must be a issue with nexus media storage manager or some lousy process, i dont know why google wants to make it harder for us.
In Windows try to search a dot (.) in the folder. If you couldn't see it then the file is likely encrypted.

Cool a restart did the trick. Weird that files don't show up at first, guess it needs a fresh media scan to work.

issues with file transfers n7

my laptop set-up is Win8 64 and recently have been having issues with the file transfers.sometimes it wont work and sometimes it will.yesterday trying to put my music files back on would not work at all.today it worked and now when i try putting movies on my n7 it shows the file window but wont move.when i close the transfer window it says 5 minutes remaining?? this is ridiculous.oh and i have pdanet installed so i could use the nexus toolkit.please help
Solved....i guess.i have to transfer it to the root of the internal memory than move it to my movies file with a file manager.
Thread Closed
This is a previously documented issue in virtually all device forums. Windows doesn't like doing large transfers to android sometimes.
So to avoid even more duplication, this thread is closed.

Not all files showing when connecting to new windows 10 laptop

So when I connect my Nexus 6P to my new Dell XPS13 and I chose file transfer as the connection option, the device shows up and I can see all the folders but when I open them it's like only select files are there. For example my download folder has a few word files, an xcel file, a few pictures and a small movie file. In the file explorer on my laptop, I only see one word document. So I know it can see the files but where are the rest? When I look on my phone they are still there.
Also my TWRP folder I see a few things but not the backup folder with my backup in it. I have hidden files selected to be shown on my laptop, is there something else I am missing?
EDIT: So this is strange, if I boot to recovery while connected, the drive pops back up and my laptop can see everything just fine, but if I reboot back to just the regular phone, the laptop stops seeing select files? I had an older windows 10 laptop and it didn't have this problem (I've since sold that, so that's not an option.)
Which files in particular? I noticed that sometimes I have to force media scanner to run and reconnect the phone to the computer at times, but the behavior is a bit erratic I havent pin pointed a specific time this occurs.

It's actually kind of random, but specifically in the TWRP folder there is a folder called BACKUPS that has my backup of my phone, and that whole folder doesn't show up.
Then random stuff like the one word document and one xcel document not showing up, but another word document does show up, it makes no sense to me.
Try going into device manager update device drivers, select location yourself and chose the phone for drivers location. Had to do that to mine when I first got it. It wouldn't let me even copy anything to the phone or create a folder or see contents of folders anytime I clocked on something it would say device disconnected
bump, this is driving me nuts.
This too happens to me. Formatting the phone completely had no effect... I'm going to do more playing around and see what happens.
