I've searched high and low but have yet to come across a truly vanilla rom. I used to have a Desire and there are a few roms like Oxygen and Redux which are generally based on CM7/6 source, but they strip out all the extra bits and put a few tweaks in here and there. Is there anyone out there that would do this for the HD? Lots of people (Like me) just want the OS to download and I will take care of theming/apps/settings/etc.
So, is there one I haven't seen yet? If not, is anyone interested in a project like this?
Adwinp has an aosp rom in the development thread, its vanilla rom with 2.3 base and its still work in progress.
Its called [email protected] I have been watching his thread since he announced development, so at the moment there are still bugs present and some stuff is not working but I think if more people show interest in this project and help with bug fixes we could have a vanilla rom sometime in the near future that's not cyanogenmod.

Android development is stuff that's either kanged or not much change from aosp or whatever its based on like cm kangs and all that
Original development is more unique stuff, eg kernels and roms with innovation and built from source. Stuff that's different from stock or other roms

I'm confused between these two ROMs about which one to install. Can anyone please tell me which one has got more customization features as of now and which one will be developed more.

Right now they're both alpha, so they've got not a lot of customizations. Also the CM is only for D802 right now, so if you don't have that, its not even an option. As far as I can tell, the houstonn's PA is basically CM so far as a lot of the features that PA is known for such as PIE, Holo, hybrid setting etc are not present. However, I'm sure once these roms get out of alpha and beta, there will be more differences.
We do not allow threads which compare ROMs/Kernels, such threads can cause offence to the developers. Best advice i can give you is try them out yourself and see which one best suits your needs.

I have a 3 yr old Galaxy S2 (GT19100) and I must say this is the longest running phone in the history of my Mobile Phone usage. I have been using Mobile phones from the year 2000 and I must say the technology has advanced so far on the last decade or so that at times I find it difficult to match up with it.
The purpose of this thread is to help Galaxy S2 users to find the best custom ROM's for S2 users. (Dev's and testers your feedback is the most valuable)
Personally, I am a fan of Samsung's Touchwiz skin and I have used Wizzedkat, Jellysnap, Revolution Rom etc and I would like to know your views on which Touchwiz based Rom you find the best and why.
I am yet to try the Fusion and I know there are many more Touchwiz based Roms.
I would appreciate your contribution as this will help all those who are looking for a stable Touchwiz based Rom which works great and gets the most out of our S2.

So a mod is likely to freeze this thread.
Discussion might be possible if a thread is framed differently than "Best ROM".
That said, particularly with an older device like the GT-I9100 is now, I prefer AOSP ROMs. I prefer KitKat or Lollipop before older stock ROMs most of the time.
And despite what I, or many others, might feel about the situations about CM and CM Inc, CM11/12 and ROMs derived from it are still in the lead as far as popularity goes, though that lead has diminished over the last few years.
I currently have 18 active Android devices I use for testing my Android apps. And all of them has CM or CM derived ROMs available, except possibly for some Sony's if FXP is considered distinct from CM.
Of course my perspective is that of a developer, mostly doing app testing. Individual devices may have ROM's available that appeal more to people who like UI and other "extra whiz-bang" features.
Neat ROM!! Its awesome, just moved over to the 4.4.4 version if neat ROM and its good.

I'm not the flashaholic I once was. For one thing, most ROMS are just copies of each other. When I had the Moment, each ROM that came out was unique in many ways. Either in the theming (Roms never have theming in them anymore, they're either black or white) or in the kernel that came with the ROM, had JIT, or didn't, etc. Something new, something different. The EVO was the same way and the Devs for those phones were held to a high standard. Almost put on a pedestal. You never saw ROMS come out that were based on someone else's work, like Slim Based, etc.
Now it's just a free-for-all. I look through the ROMS here on XDA and all I see are the same thing, over and over. And all with a LOT of bugs. Look at the new Validus, 2/2 is apparently a nightmare. 1/25 had issues. I'm on 1/23 and it's OK, but battery life is worse than anything I've run on the Nexus 6 Not horrible, but nothing like I was getting on earlier versions. The First Validus ROM we all flashed over at Team US Cellular, long before it was ever ON XDA, was awesome. Now I can't add the date to the Status Bar?? Huh?
Also, Wug updated his tool kit to 2.0.3 and people are having issues with that, too, getting root. Why?? It was working fine at 1.9.9 and at 2.02
WTH?? It used to be updates meant fixes and improvements after thorough testing. Now it's updates just for the sake up updating??? The Dev community has really steadily gone downhill in many ways since the earliest days of Android. A lot of GREAT ones out here still, but something has definitely changed over the years. Or am I just missing something?
Try Chroma rom. Runs good for me.
I think that I've noticed since I moved from phones with a skinned stock ROM (HTC Sense, Touchwiz, etc) to Nexus devices is that there is less variation in ROM's because there's no OEM skin version to use as a base.
I remember on the Desire HD there were so many variations of the Sense ROM's (2.5, 3, 3.5) and even then you had de-Sensed versions too.
Whilst I would never go back to a non-Nexus device I do kind of miss the variety like you mentioned. The other edge of this sword is that I tend to find that Nexus ROM's are more complete with little or none major non-working functions like the camera, gps, etc that you might find in non-stock ROM's for skinned devices.
All credit to the developers though, especially one's who come out with original ideas and functions that no one's been able to either think of or implement before. I reckon that's the sign of true development, not just copying another ROM and changing the theme, adding/removing certain apps, implementing copied scripts.

Those are good points. Like with the Evo, it was Sense or Not Sense, so there was more variety. And not to dis anyone dev'ing any ROM's. It's much appreciated work on any level

What are you providing to Development? And if ROMs are not to your liking, there is always Stock. Nothing wrong with Stock. Where is your ROM?
