Who buys the Note?! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

If you are the owner of a Galaxy Note, please select your height.
I have a theory that there is an interesting association between the height of a person and the size of screen they go for.
Lets see what results we get! This should be interesting at minimum...

I am 1 meter 47, midevil age sized fellow. I look like I walk around with cinema in hand
and I am not happy to see you, its just a note in my pocket mwahahahau
whats the average height in the world?

I am to produce a report if I get enough responses... I can see this being a limiting factor to a proper study.
Your fingers must be really short... do you regret getting the note?

This isn't going to get any interesting g results the will get the most hits in the average height of the world as thats where most people come u der and therefore you will get most note users.

Nope, Its handy. A true tablet is to big for me. This is perfect, I get a multifunctional device, yet smaller then device I otherwise would have got. Big plus. For phone its nice size to, I feel shielded by it, thus less wind noise interference. Also with a smaller phone people would just talk to me while I am ringing, now they actually can see I am on the phone. lol. Weird, but hey a good welcome side effect.
Its funny, I am small but dont give an elephants ass regarding peoples tendency to conform to image expectation. Probably cause I are fugly. Expectation phone small, big phone oh that looks weird. Nah, this is more plausible: Just takes getting used to, much like supermodels, skinny was the **** untill Kim Kardassian and Beyonce came round with huge curves. That and the song, I like big butts by sir Mixalot. lol.
Only thing I mind is battery life, I want a regular phone battery life and regular tablet battery life, somehow adding the gsm network halves it. I guess it must be form factor, tablet wholes back is battery, whilst phone is just small battery. So even thought notes battery is bigger then other phones, its battery still to small for tablet battery life span, which I was expecting

Yo may be right, but my theory is that shorter people tend to go for this phone. I shall allow the numbers to build up and compare with the average height.

Fair point... I will probably need to figure out the distribution of users. Lucky I have chosen to record voters IDs.
I shall also look at the general distribution of the Notes... will see if I can get hold of this data.

This is one of the funniest things Ive heard in quite some time. You can use it as an umbrella too!

I am 5'10" but i have always loved bigger phones from the nokia forgot the name U shaped phone to the nokia e61i to htc hd2 to the desire hd to this. I did however step down to the htc Desire for like two weeks and couldnt bear the pain of the matchbox screen.
Some say i have big hands so i dont know about the height being the only anatomy factor but interestingly
I am looking forward to the note2 due out later in the year but i think thats the limit as even i with said big hands struggle with single handed operation at times
Best phone ever
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

5'5, but that is average for a US female. But I have really small hands. I can't use the phone one handed at all, not even in portrait. But it is small sacrifice to make to have a large screen phone. My previous phone was the Dell Streak, so I prefer larger screen phones. On day I hope to have a 7" or more size screen for my phone.

I'm getting one, the screen resolution is what sells it for me.
I was before I got the S2. Now, after using the S2, I feel the S2 is slightly too big for me so the Note is a no.
I've been giving it a thought this whole week. The best selling point for me is the idea that it can serve as a digital sketchbook. What worries me the most is its size as a phone. I even made a 1:1 papercraft mockup just the get the feel of it. My conclusion so far is it's too big... for my hand... as a phone. It's clearly designed to be handled with two hands.
I went lurking in the Galaxy Note forum. Some of the turn offs, compared to the SGS2, were the smoothness, battery life and how some apps don't stretch the way it meant to be for the screen resolution.
So I'm sticking with the SGS2. I still think this is still the best phone in the market right now.
You guys must be fairly flush with cash if your thinking of buying this phone, ive only got my SGSII 4 months so it would be lunacy for me to try and get cash together to buy something that in all seriousness isn't that much better (if at all) and with an inferior camera.
I'll wait until next year to get a SGS3 whenever it comes out.

I could have sprung for a contract should my credit rating allow it. The phone itself would have been almost my entire savings. So the price made me really think.
I was originally going to use it as an all in one ereader, phone, pmp. But having bought the s2 for around half the price of the note so I can get a kindle instead and still save a load of money. Just more inconvenient but better usability. Note seems more of a doctors toy. Awesome way to send a prescription lol

i am fighting myself since a week now to not get it...
i really really love my sgs2... i every way... and i still hope that there will be alot more developement for the sgs2... it always feels smooth, screen is very good, battery life is good and so on...
the only thing that is pushing me to the note is the screen size...
it is impossible (for me) that the note will be as smooth as the sgs2... cause the 1.5ghz is (i think) not enough for the screen size and resolution... the 1.2 on the sgs2 is (for now) more than enough as it proofed itself on every rom i tried... i would never watch a 1080p movie on the phone... 720p is MORE than enough for that kind of screensizes...
for me the PRO and the CON is the same: Screen
we will the in the next few days what the devs say about the note...
Just had a quick browse on the Galaxy Note forums, quiet enough as expected with not many people having got this yet, screen is too big for me the SGSII is the perfect size.
Have you guys seen the review over at www.androidnz.net ?

Since I got my gs2 havent really played with My galaxy tab 10.1. I could just imagine how much less ill use it if I had a 5.3 inch screen phone. My main reason for a big screen is for surfing and easier to type with my huge hands this is a def buy that is if its for T-Mobile.
I've seen the review over at phonearena and doesn't really like it.. I'd prefer a phone which have a screen size of below 5" and about the same width and height as my SGS2

What the hell is going on with technology:
I remember when PDA's not smartphones had stylus and were chunky great beasts, that had people stating "hey there, what's that you have in your pocket sir" then things got smaller and smaller with superb little super technology that allowed everything to become tiny...
and now things are getting bigger and bigger, and reintroducing stylus again, blimey next thing, staid press trousers will be all the rage

I'm all for anything that hastens the departure of "skinny jeans" as something fashionable.
As a former Dell Streak 5 user, I think I'll adapt to the extra size quite well, given that it's actually smaller and lighter than the Streak was.
I'll pass the S2 on to my wife, which will help to push the deal through the 'purchasing department,' if you know what I mean.

Galaxy Nexus is HUGE

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. As far as I know about the processor, that the processor its using can typically be way overclocked. Plus now that we have full hardware acceleration, things will run very very well.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.

I've had it with this phone: my version

I can't take it anymore for the following reasons:
-the screen is perfect and the Best I've had on a phone. No color issues, no banding, perfect
-3 months in and no scratches, pitiful glass
-several updates already and with the latest no lag whatsoever at any point
-the battery life is great and best of any smartphone I've owned
-calibration is fine
-camera is awesome and takes better pics than my 14mp point and shoot camera
-I run full brightness most of the day with no heat probs
As I think of more issues and probs I will update for everyone questioning their purchase

At the time Note 2 was released, these were killer specs and its still a very functional and modern phone. Full HD display is a buzzword of this time and frankly speaking I dont care about it that much. Note 2's display is sharp enough. Full HD display takes its toll on battery and CPU/GPU too.
Larger battery? Boss this is the first Android phone that I have owned which works without charging for two days with quite heavy use. They way you are saying it, even if they had given 5000 mah battery you would have been saying....bah! Only 5000 mah, it should have been 8000 mah at least
I know the more the better but there has to be an appropriate limit. Note 2 is arguably one of the best phones of its time and it still rocks. Sucks is a word you cannot use in its context.

What do you guys think about it?
Rumor has it that its gonna be "smaller" which would be a turn off for me. Hopefully the'll launch two versions instead e.g. OnePlus 2 & OnePlus 2 mini. Also i would rather have it come out later rather than sooner as i just got mine, and am waiting for my second one...lol
Yeah...I like the 5.5" device too. It's really sleek and not too bulky at all. I sure hope they don't get too much smaller.

Hopefully down to 5 - 5.2", that would certainly make it more manageable.
You've got to remember they probably have their biggest market in China, and typically phones like the xiomi which sell in bucket loads have a smaller screen. The Chinese population probably have smaller hands than westerners in general
If they make the phone like the form factor of the lg3 with the 5.5 inch then that would be great. In the meantime, I'm waiting for my one plus one phone to arrive

I wouldn't mind going down to 5.2-5.2". Actually, even if they make the phone a little smaller, but keep that 5.5" screen would be perfect. Let's keep in mind 5.5" phones like the LG3 and iPhone 6 Plus have same screen size, but they are not the same size overall. If the phone itself got a little smaller keeping that 5.5" screen, now that would be perfection. For me at least.

When did you order and how long did it take? I ordered Friday from Florida and status changed to processing yesterday am (Monday) and they officially charged my PayPal. Am I close? Tomorrow maybe? Wednesday...
I'd prefer a 5" with close to zero side bezel, keeping a big battery and high end chip set... No need for qhd displays, but front firing speakers and expandable storage would be a plus.. I know sapphire glass is expensive, but I'd pay more to have it..

I really love the OnePlus One's implementation of the 5.5" inch screen, they really got it right, I wouldn't change that on the Two. They can always offer a "Mini" version of the phone for those who prefer a smaller form factor, but it wouldn't be smart for them go back to reduce the screen, which is, IMO, one of the brighter spots of the device.

Not sure about "on the way" - more like scheduled to be released at the same time 1+1 was released.....
One Plus Two
They are not able to produce the one in a greater quantity and speak about a two now lol
What a joke.
But if it really comes - with a smaller display i would not lucky !

I hope this is what they'll do:
Same specs, but :
OnePlus 2 (5.5")
OnePlus 2 Mini (4.7 ~ 5.0")
Wish i could get the +1 first
If they come out with a smaller one without a 5.5, I'll have to go somewere else. I'm loving the big screen and can't go back...I'm also liking the custom roms that come with this phone also...

Shamu is coming, from what I hear screen can't get any bigger
5"
Coming form a nexus 5 I would not have an issue with them going to 5" which is plenty big for me.
