Unless u browse ALOT, to my mind its not that big an upgrade. At this moment its price is so big it does not gives that big difference as it should... But if you got alot of money then sure its an upgrade

I'm getting one, the screen resolution is what sells it for me.
I was before I got the S2. Now, after using the S2, I feel the S2 is slightly too big for me so the Note is a no.
I've been giving it a thought this whole week. The best selling point for me is the idea that it can serve as a digital sketchbook. What worries me the most is its size as a phone. I even made a 1:1 papercraft mockup just the get the feel of it. My conclusion so far is it's too big... for my hand... as a phone. It's clearly designed to be handled with two hands.
I went lurking in the Galaxy Note forum. Some of the turn offs, compared to the SGS2, were the smoothness, battery life and how some apps don't stretch the way it meant to be for the screen resolution.
So I'm sticking with the SGS2. I still think this is still the best phone in the market right now.
You guys must be fairly flush with cash if your thinking of buying this phone, ive only got my SGSII 4 months so it would be lunacy for me to try and get cash together to buy something that in all seriousness isn't that much better (if at all) and with an inferior camera.
I'll wait until next year to get a SGS3 whenever it comes out.

I could have sprung for a contract should my credit rating allow it. The phone itself would have been almost my entire savings. So the price made me really think.
I was originally going to use it as an all in one ereader, phone, pmp. But having bought the s2 for around half the price of the note so I can get a kindle instead and still save a load of money. Just more inconvenient but better usability. Note seems more of a doctors toy. Awesome way to send a prescription lol

i am fighting myself since a week now to not get it...
i really really love my sgs2... i every way... and i still hope that there will be alot more developement for the sgs2... it always feels smooth, screen is very good, battery life is good and so on...
the only thing that is pushing me to the note is the screen size...
it is impossible (for me) that the note will be as smooth as the sgs2... cause the 1.5ghz is (i think) not enough for the screen size and resolution... the 1.2 on the sgs2 is (for now) more than enough as it proofed itself on every rom i tried... i would never watch a 1080p movie on the phone... 720p is MORE than enough for that kind of screensizes...
for me the PRO and the CON is the same: Screen
we will the in the next few days what the devs say about the note...
Just had a quick browse on the Galaxy Note forums, quiet enough as expected with not many people having got this yet, screen is too big for me the SGSII is the perfect size.
Have you guys seen the review over at www.androidnz.net ?

Since I got my gs2 havent really played with My galaxy tab 10.1. I could just imagine how much less ill use it if I had a 5.3 inch screen phone. My main reason for a big screen is for surfing and easier to type with my huge hands this is a def buy that is if its for T-Mobile.
I've seen the review over at phonearena and doesn't really like it.. I'd prefer a phone which have a screen size of below 5" and about the same width and height as my SGS2

What the hell is going on with technology:
I remember when PDA's not smartphones had stylus and were chunky great beasts, that had people stating "hey there, what's that you have in your pocket sir" then things got smaller and smaller with superb little super technology that allowed everything to become tiny...
and now things are getting bigger and bigger, and reintroducing stylus again, blimey next thing, staid press trousers will be all the rage

I'm all for anything that hastens the departure of "skinny jeans" as something fashionable.
As a former Dell Streak 5 user, I think I'll adapt to the extra size quite well, given that it's actually smaller and lighter than the Streak was.
I'll pass the S2 on to my wife, which will help to push the deal through the 'purchasing department,' if you know what I mean.

Ahh I see. I saw the leaked photo of the US Galaxy S2 family and while they're all nice I can't help but think the International version looks better. Plus I'm not sure whether I'd fancy the bigger screen, 4.3" seems to be the sweet spot for myself.
Here we are, with our SGSII's... as early adopters....
And now they release what it probably should have been in the first place with proper firmware probably.
Oh well, it's always the same
good bye SGS2 !
wait until they are benchmarked and the first problems arise.
I wonder if it's a Qualcomm SOC or Exynos. Exynos demolishes Qualcomm's offerings at the moment

Its good and bad at the same time I think. Gonna stick it out for a long yime with the sgs2 but the cravings will persisy unfortunately. No cravings yet though, love this phone.
agreed to #15.
1) is there a need for another 0.2" of screen estate?
my take : 4.3" sgs2 is the sweet spot for me. i have trouble swiping my thumb across the whole screen already.
2) is there a need for an extra 0.3mhz of processor or 1850mah battery?
my take : setcpu is the answer.
extended battery pack aren't expensive on ebay.
My opinions
The extra processing power and screen estate will nullify the increase in capacity of batt. furthermore, the perennial dual core issue is still unfixed in 2.3.4. and samsung have the balls to release another "beta" phone.
my hunch
samsung is trying hard to best iphone5 and downplay it's "wow factor" in sept. notice the link? 4.5, dual core 1.5, it's all marketing numbers. like megapixel wars. no doubt, people will start comparing iphone 5 with 4.5" S2 in terms of raw power. that's what sammy wants.
but for what apple did, whoring over patents. go smash iphone5 to pieces man, sammy. we'll love a phone war anytime.
conclusion
4.5" S2 is a marketing gadget.
SGS2 has already covered much that we (a typical consumer) need.
If there's anything to look, go for tablets tegra kai-el releasing in a few months time.
I'm sure 4.5" S2 would look like phone drenched in cat piss in a few months time.
go for 4.5" S2 if...
you want lte.
you want nfc. ironically 4.3" S2 korea has it.
you use gadgets, not the other way around! ^^;
If they improve the sound quality and Supercurio brings voodoo to it, I'll be all over it.

Decent analysis and I think I pretty much concur. However, I don't think (and I'm not suggesting that you do either) that Samsung are doing this to piss off early adopters or force us to upgrade - they haven't even changed the name for starters, so there is no real sense of this being something new.
Marketing gimmick? Possibly, but only hardcore techies are going to be influenced by the marginal increase in specs.
So I suspect that the bits they use to make the device have moved on - if you can get a 4.5" screen at the same price as the old 4.3", why not use it...?
This is a gentle evolution in my book, not a massive statement.
If you have a GS2 there is no reason at all to go for that phone, a 4.5" screen imo will make the phone a little on the large side and this phone can be over-clocked if desired, I don't see the point of it.
What about SUPER AMOLED HD display that was talked about ??

yeah definitely.
God when mobile phones first came out in the late 1980's they were like big bricks, as time went on the size went down and down until the arrival of the smartphone now they seem to be going up in size.
The spec is very impressive but i simply could not have a phone that size, the current size or 4.5 at the very max but not as big as this.

I know right, bigger phones are back in fashion it seems. A HD samoled seems amazing though
Our sgs2 would be perfect with HD screen!
It's such a shame..
The Nexus Prime seems like it will have a similar resolution screen, so there will be some less-niche devices with these specs from Samsung soon enough, takes a little while to miniaturise the displays with each new generation. Those of you who don't like big devices will just have to wait!
I think everyone saying this is too big for a phone aren't really seeing this for what it is - its not being marketed as a phone, its a bridging device, Samsung realise this is a niche product.
Must say I wasn't expecting the Galaxy Note, but the 5,3" WXGA super amoled plus display sure is a winner. Considering Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to bring honeycomb and gingerbread together, I'd say that we'll definitely be seeing ICS on the Galaxy Note before it's released.
The only thing that's got me worried though is whether the Exynos at 1,4Ghz is powerful enough to power the 1280x800 screen at a pace that matches that of the SGS II.
Can't imagine calling on that big of a phone without a headphone.. isn't it a little too big to call a phone? 5.3".. Nothing like that before and a 2500 mah battery that thin?? an applause from me for samsung

I also owned an atrix. Its a no brainer.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I'm currently using both and I'm quite happy with my Note. Probably the only reason I still use my Atrix is when I require more pocket-ability even though the Note is quite pocketable. Performance wise the note on at&t 3G is almost the same as the Atrix. Also, the Note will supposedly get ICS and I highly doubt that Atrix will.
Atrix owner here. I can doubtlessly state this phone is far superior. The screen is incomparable, not only because of the size, but because u can use it with ease under direct sunlight, something you can't even dream of doing in the Atrix, and it's a worthy gaming/reading machine. The Atrix had extras, but they are, after months of use, easily identifiable as worthless.
I'm going to piggy back what everyone else is saying here. I also owned an Atrix from day 1 of its release and it was a great phone. This device blows it away. Batter life is actually better than it was on my Atrix! (and it was incredible for me on Atrix) The screen resolution and colors are incomparable, the Note is simply in a class of its own, the colors and images look painted on the screen, I remember when I first turned the phone on it took me by surprise. The more I use this phone, I find the diverse it actually is. Playing games, reading books/pdf/documents, watching video, streaming music, this phone does it all and does it amazingly. Wouldnt trade it for any other phone in the foreseeable future. Go for it, you will not regret it, and neither will your wallet
Thanks for the replies. Ill get it this coming weekend!
While I didn't own an Atrix (had a Desire before), after all the reading I came to one conclusion: as long as you can live with the size, the phone itself will be your best choice
Happy buying!

Love this thread because its about the 2 best phones of 2011.
Samsung NOTE - best performance, best screen, best battery + pen
Motorola Atrix - hands-down best phone of Q1 and Q2 and currently a great contender
I thought about buying an Atrix because of the accessories and then decided that it still would not replace my laptop so couldn't see the point. The Note doesn't try to replace a laptop but it does replace a phone and a tablet and that is what most people want. You will be able to carry the Note everywhere like the Atrix and enjoy the much better experience.
Go get the note ! I've had the Atric which was pretty good but Note is definitely better... Bigger screen, bright colours, ...
Go get it, NOW! )

The American carriers are queuing up to offer the Galaxy Note because they recognise a winner when they see it. Meanwhile Apple continues with it's tiny iPhone 4S which sucks at watching videos, playing games and surfing the Net because of the small screen and hoping that Siri will save it. The only thing that will save the iPhone is a bigger screen to make it more useful, but it cannot do that because it will hurt it's iPad sales. The Galaxy Note is a winner because it provides a Tablet experience with the convenience of a mobile phone and it will be even better when it gets ICS soon.
Im excited about this even if I have the international version
Sometimes...one bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch.
Samsung has found such a sweet spot with note in size, performance, beauty and price. I really dont see myself using any other phone for a good long time. It also kills any itch to own a tablet. After ICS update, samsung would emerge as the undisputed winner.
The most amazing thing about note is that YOU CAN NEVER GO BACK. I have never felt like this for any other phone, even the first iPhone.
You are right. Once you have the Note, I can't imagine going back to a smaller phone! LOL! Unless something better comes along.
The beautiful thing is that there truly is nothing that can be improved substantially unlike the past 4-5 years.
Full HD, infinite contrast, 8 MP, 1.7ghz, 2 day battery life, soon ICS etc.
The s-pen seals the deal and "almost" kills the age old 'pen and paper' combo. This i believe is the note's biggest achievement. I used to hear a lot that no matter how much tech advances but nothing can really beat pen and paper at what it does best.
Every thing about this phone is a culmination of all the major developments in electronic and software engineering converged into a singular entity. Any unbiased technology oriented person with average sized hands looking for a high end phone cant go wrong with the note, infact he has no choice but to buy the note.
All i wish now is that android starts getting AAA apps and games like iPhone. I would really love infinity blade 2 on android.
I hope samsung makes truck loads out of this phone as they truly deserve it this time.
it should do well in the US....they like things supersized! .....the s-pen is like "i will have fries with that"

The iPad is too big to be used as a phone or camera and too big to be carried around because it doesn't fit in any pockets. You can comfortably read and view video on the Note and take pictures at home and away. If I had an iPad and a Note then I would sell the iPad it because it doesn't work as a laptop, camera or phone.

Gaugerer I see you are a very big fan of our wonderful Note. Or you are Samsung Note PR ;-)
You are probably right. Just like there was always demand for tablets but none succeeded before the iPad because they all sucked. There was always a place for the Note but only the Dell Streak tried and not so well.
Now, like iPad proved tablets market, the Note has proven mini tablet phone market.
Apple eventually split the iPhone into several sizes to give people a choice. If they do it now to compete against the new big Android phones then they could save a lot of market.
A 4.5" iPhone would hurt S2 / Note sales. But now Jobs is gone they are without direction and will probably make only tactical decisions but no strategic plan.
I think Note market will grow big with lots of professionals like doctors who want good reading and still easy enough carrying. My doctor was ready to throw his iphone in the bin when I showed him my Note!

How many people get a Note and can't imagine something smaller?
I always found a 3.5" HP PDA was a bit too small to comfortably read but a 4" was just big enough. Expand 4" standard aspect to wide and I think you get 4.6" So Note is in that comfortable small paperback size while iphone is still just a cool contacts list size.

I can't take it anymore for the following reasons:
-the screen is perfect and the Best I've had on a phone. No color issues, no banding, perfect
-3 months in and no scratches, pitiful glass
-several updates already and with the latest no lag whatsoever at any point
-the battery life is great and best of any smartphone I've owned
-calibration is fine
-camera is awesome and takes better pics than my 14mp point and shoot camera
-I run full brightness most of the day with no heat probs
As I think of more issues and probs I will update for everyone questioning their purchase
From the giant: Galaxy Note
Me too! I already get upset just looking at it!
I also hate the fact that it fits in my jeans pockets.
Why would anyone make a phone small enough to fit in a pocket!?
Sheesh, ridiculous.

So many complaints. Can't understand what tricks Samsung pulled to sell over a million of this substandard device.
POS! I Rarely have to reboot, and I'm running the stock ROM, UNROOTED! Samsung should have made it a little crappier so I would WANT to root. BAH! So aggravated!

I'm actually getting a bit annoyed that I keep playing with it so much.
This phone is cellular CRACK. CRACK I TELL YOU.
It's too fast, I can almost feel the speed wind and it's messing up my hair!
And the battery lasts for too long, I no longer have an excuse to stay inside because my phone has to charge.
These and all of the other things that are perfect about the Note really makes it the worst phone ever! :-D

Im too hate this Note! 5.3" is way too big for my extra small size S hand! Oh i wish i could upgrade my hand size to XXL size, any good idea to increase my hand size? How about serum injection? I heard the mad scientist do test it on a chicken & the chicken did become big..lol

What's with the high resolution? An entire webpage can fit on the screen now. Why doesn't Samsung give us the opportunity to use the pinch-to-zoom feature more? That's what it's there for.
Its the WORSE phone i've ever had and it really DONT fits me.
I DONT love everypart of it. From the big screen to the pen.
since this forum is filled with NO complaints or NO whining posts. Galaxy note is realy just NOT the perfect phone for me so far. :-D

By a beast called GT-N7000.
I HATE THIS GODDAMN PHONE
because everything else I see as too tiny and so micro to use.
I need my 11.6" tablet now. 10" too small.

Don't mess up my thread, it was perfect

I really get angry with my Note, 'cause it's perfect, so it makes me selfish, over-proud. I trend to look down to ALL other Smartphones out there.
That's terribly not good.

Congrats, you'll love this sorry pos with all the probs I've posted. I curse the day I bought this big, beautiful piece of a phone. It will cause major issues like sore thumbs, loss of time, addiction and the need to spoon with the phone at night cause you love it so much. Be careful!
