I was just wondering is there a way to change the number of Home screens on stock Jelly Bean? I really don't need five of them.
I don't really want install another launcher because each launcher (Apex, Nova) seems to F'up in some way or another -_-
Thanks.
No. you can't change the number of home screens in the stock launcher.

Hi,
Nexus S, as you all know, has the pure gingerbread OS or the stock Launcher. The dock has those two green icons (Phone and Browser).
Is there a way to change those two? I'd like to use the stock Launcher but I really wanted to change those two icons.
thanks!
dont think there is anything like that as far as i know. try launcher pro and make it look as stock as possible with different shortcuts. lots of features in there u might like....

hi. thanks
i was using launcher pro, then switched now to Go launcher.
im after the speed and snappiness of the stock launcher actually. although both launchers i used above are fast, one eats battery juice quick. the other one a bit jumpy/lagging at times.
the stock launcher is fluid even when live wallpaper is active. I read somewhere that it is snappy because the launcher uses graphics accelerator or the graphics engin (or something) that's why its crisp even when opening the app drawer, the zoom/fade animation of the icons are smooth. i compared it with 3rd party launchers.
its just those two unchangeable icons that bothers me (and inability to add/remove home screens). though i can live with it, i guess.
thanks again!
You have to decompile SystemUI.apk, then change the images and after that compile it again.
To do this you need apktools, you can google it.
Hope it helped

I have a Nexus 7 with JB 4.2 installed. Do you recommend I stick to the stock setup or get a launcher?
Thanks,
Jon

Try a launcher. You can run them both and then just keep the one you like. There are features inn a launcher that I couldn't live without like the ability to hide apps on the app drawer and define my own gestures for the home screen. For instance I have an up swipe set to bring up settings. A double tap the app drawer. I also have the home key set to hide the dock. I couldn't do any of these with the stock launcher.

Personal choice, obviously... something like Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher will look almost the same as stock, but give you more flexibility.
I recently switched to Chameleon launcher on my tablet. It looks and behaves very differently, but once I got used to the change I really started liking the tablet look. In my opinion, it's very functional, and I like being able to switch between a home layout and a work layout.

I held off on buying when it was $10 but at $4 I took the plunge.
I get bored with these things fairly quickly, so who knows how long I will be high on it, but for now it's good.
Depends on what you like
This is a question that nobody can answer except you.. But my experience with the Nexus or any tablet.. I hate the dock bar.. Especially how it goes to the side in landscape mode.. So i use Nova Prime and turn the Dock totally off... I also hate the Google search bar at the top of my home screen again with non stock launcher you can turn this off.
I guess my advice would be to try a few.. I would try .. Nova APEX and maybe go launcher.. Many like go because of all the add on for it.. But to me its kinda kid looking ...
Give some a try....
Good Luck

Basic launcher question. If I run nova over touch wiz, is touch wiz still running in the background using memory? If so can I still use the multi screen functions? I don't have the phone yet, but I love nova.

Well, touchwiz isnt just the launcher its all the features as well as more indepth stuff so yeah its gonna be running. When you install nova make sure you remove all widgets / clean all homescreens from touchwiz launcher as I hear it might affect RAM usage but dont try disabling touchwiz or uninstalling it. Use nova til a non TW ROM is released

Nova can be run instead of TouchWiz, I have a Note (N7000) and I can use the Multi-Window functions and everything. (Except certain widgets.)
Hope this helps!
Tank if it did!

Nova will not stick on my Sprint Galaxy S4. TW keep coming back. Any help on making Nova stick?
I know there was a way to do this with a rooted s3, could I do the same for the s4? I want the look of stock Android while keeping the great touchwiz features.

Hello N10 owners. I've had an issue that's been ongoing for some time, and would like to figure this out.
Somewhere long ago between roms, my homescreen started to not use all the available space. There are huge margins on the each side. I'm able to remedy this by restoring an old version of Nova Launcher, however, this locks me in to using Nova all the time. When I start with a clean Rom, it does it. When I use another launcher, it does it. Any clues as to why this is happening? Here's two screen shots, one with Action launcher and one with Nova.
I use action launcher on my N10 as well. This is normal behaviour in action launchers. It doesn't have customizable margins settings.
I'm pretty sure nova does though, so try changing those.

Action launcher is just an example. Launcher3 and even Nova does this with the margins until I restore the old version.

Not sure I understand your problem.
I just installed latest nova from play store and set width margins to none. This seems to work fine.
This doesn't work on AL because it doesn't have adjustable margins.

So then is the stock version of this just to have huge margins? When I clean flash a new ROM, it always has these huge margins.
