Speaking of which what's funny is my Epic will have 2 bars out of 4. But my NS4G will have 4 and in most spots they are the same but usually has better signal. But on my epic even with 4 bars on 3g I can't get decent speeds. and on 4g with 2 bars the best I can get is 400Kbps even though it speedtest says 5Mb/s I never see those speeds at all.

Sprint 3g speeds

Much improved! I'm now getting just over 2 Mbps. Now just need ICS and this phone will be good to go for a couple more years...

Lucky, I get 50~400 kbps
Sent from my SPH-D720 using Tapatalk
I've been getting great speeds as well.

What happened that led to these faster speeds all of the sudden?
Thanks,
Matt!
Sprint is upgrading their 3G network in advance of the iPhone launch next week. thisismynext.com had a few articles about it. I think it's both adding towers, and moving voice to a different frequency so data is not so congested.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Its called sprint network vision. Nothing to do with the iPhone.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
The timing of the rollout of the network upgrades has everything to do with the iPhone--specifically, with being ready for the heavy additional traffic that will hit their data network as soon as they release the iPhone. Sprint said that specifically in their conference on Friday. Can you imagine the bad press Sprint would get if reviewers compared 3G speeds of the 3 carriers of the iPhone 4S and Sprint was showing <400 kbps?
Ouch I forgot how bad sprint 3g was 5mbps on Tmobile 3g and almost 9 on hspa.
Sent from my Nexus S MV from the XDA Premium app.
Wish I was getting speeds like that. I just ran a speakeasy test and got .2 mbps with full 3g bars. It has been like that for several weeks. Hope the upgrades hit metro detroit soon.

Same **** here in Miami. I called earlier about it and it didn't really get anywhere.
where are you located
I'm in Charlotte. It's true Sprint has slower 3G than T-Mobile, but of course we have 4G too. It's really only inside buildings that I'm on 3G, and my experience is most people's phones on other networks don't get reception at all inside.

What are you getting for a ping? Download ping off the market and run a continuous ping to Google.com. I get 1mbit down with a fluctuating ping between 80-130ms. Spikes up past 400 once in a blue. Its not stable whatsoever. Pisses me off. I'd be able to enjoy this bf3 beta a bit better lol

How about a change in radios? Might that help?

Highest i ever saw on wimax was 10mbps which I can almost hit on good hspa. :/
Sent from my Nexus S MV from the XDA Premium app.
If I had consistant access to 10mbps I would be fine with wimax. There is only one wimax tower near me me and its coverage stops about a mile from my home. Even when I can connect to it I have only seen speeds up to 7mbps, with 5 being the norm. Heck, I would even be fine with that if the coverage was even mediocre. However, the 4g coverage is atrocious around me and is unusable unless you are outside. Sprint has there work cut out for them, i think it will be years before we see any fast, reliable speeds. I just hope metro detroit is one of the first areas they upgrade since they hosed us on the wimax coverage, but I'm not holding my breath as I would think they would start upgrading towers before building new ones. Ill just have to keep taking comfort in the fact that my bill is half as much as it would be on verizon.lol

Ping is in the low 100s on 3G. Actually a lot more consistent on 3G than wifi. What are those numbers supposed to be if you have "good" service?

CDMA EVDO Rev. A is capped at 3.1mbps, on paper. Where GSM 3G is at 7.2mbps. Technically, in good coverage, I should see at least 700kbps on Sprints 3G. Unfortunately for me, Sprints network is horrid.
I tried the NS4G under Sprint's trial (about 5 months ago). I couldn't even watch Slingbox or hardly stream anything due to the slow rev.A CDMA network.
I ran back to my AT&T NS.
I'm sure the network Vision project will bring good things, as will AT&T's (and Verizon's) network upgrades, but Sprint simply is not there yet.
Shame cause I like the way they roll. That and the fact that I had Sprint for many years until the O.G. iPhone came out on AT&T (been with AT&T since then). I've always wanted to return to Sprint, but I just can't given the slow 3G speeds currently. Plus it's nice to use simultaneous data and voice.

NS4G WiMax speeds

I just found a spot near my local Publix where I was getting 3 and 4 bars of signal with WiMax, which I rarely ever see in my city.
I speed tested and was consistently getting 16-18mbps down and around 3mbps up.
I'm curious to see how that compares with what everyone else is getting on Sprint's 4g network.

Sprint's 4g is pretty good here in Cincinnati. I get about 6-7mbs down and 1 up at my apartment with one bar, but when I go outside I get about 10-12mbs down and 2 up with 3-4 bars.
Here is a screenshot. I wasn't on wifi, I was in the middle of a parking lot.
I wasn't getting 3mbps up here, but I have before.

This is good to hear. Hopefully Sprint is staying good on their word and largely improving their 3G this year.
Especially looking forward to the Galaxy Nexus and LTE, even though I'm not in one of the cities getting it first.

Not necessarily, wimax upload speeds were capped. No official word that it's been removed though or made higher above 1.5. Any of you claiming higher have a screenshot?

How is the battery life with the new radio and update leak?
I'm actually thinking about flashing back to ke1. This new one and the previous seemed to get worse reception in my area. Ymmv depending on where you live...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Laying on my couch i previously got 2 bars. I see no difference so far in the 2 hours i have had it flashed. I like being updated though since i assume something was changed for the better. I'm running cm7.2.
While my signal has not increased, I will say my 3g speed has almost doubled on a consistent basis.

I thought it was just a coincidence or a setting but I have been using the new radio for 2 days and checking my 3g speeds diligently and I too have had speed gains. Getting the highest download speedtest scores I have on my device in my area.
Upload speed is about 1/2 of what it was (who cares? Not me.)
I hope it sticks and is not just a fluke.

Okay after a little more observation speeds are about the same I have run the speed test periodically throughout the days I've had the new radio and it seems like my high speeds are coming from low traffic in the early hours of the morning I am still trying to figure it out.

Yeah I'm getting the same mixed bag :/ I'm getting much more reliable data speeds but that's it, and I'm not sure that the 4.0.4 leak isn't half the reason for it. I'm in a backwoods area on the edge of Sprint's coverage and on KE1 I could make phone calls no problem, with a few dropped calls here and there. With this new one I can't make calls unless I step outside... Data speeds are more stable and texting seems more reliable but I can't make phone calls worth $&%#... In town and at work it seems much nicer, but then I think some credit has to go to the official 4.0.4 as well, not the radio.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I'm seeing faster 3g, don't have 4G in my area to compare. Reception seems the same.

I agree but the 3G/4G terminology is a bit screwed. The current "3G" release is 100x faster then the original 3G release. Yet the current 4G release is only 2.5x faster then the current 3G release.
Which is why Android refers to it as H. It should probably stay that way.
But I get 22Mbps on my N4 on DC-HSPA, which isn't as high as you, but I know how you feel. But I live on a continent that's completely GSM/HSPA/LTE, so I never really had the CDMA 3G problem.
Is there anyway to enable 3G/wcdma only after rebooting??

Improved Signal with LTE?

I just recently got LTE on T-mobile here in Tucson, AZ. I noticed I am now getting LTE signal in places I couldn't even get 3G before. My question...does LTE in general provide better coverage, or is it just because T-Mobile perhaps worked on expanding their coverage in my area?
I'm pretty sure they're doing both.
