Today I changed the cover of my S Arc. If everything is wonderful. Some tricky passages are but did not take longer than 30 minutes.
Hope the instructions are easy to understand, because my english is bad
1.
six screws (four Torx, two cross) solve. Back cover away from the frame, to use a pick or sharpened credit cards. Left, right and down the latches loosen with a pick, remove the back cover then simply
2.
Remove all peripherals (camera, Vibi and sensors, antenna cable, DisplayPort connector, touch screen connector, flex connector). Carefully arrange with your fingernail.
3.
Remove print. Pry with a little leverage from the Micro-USB connector her out.
4.
Navi-board removed. Solve the double-sided adhesive with a plectrum in Naviboard. Be careful when introducing a pick, that no parts are damaged by the board. Then-board navigation system, together with double sided adhesive removed. In the camera switch is a barb, these purely press lightly with tweezers first, and then remove the camera switches to the whole Flex.
5.
Display / touch screen front part. Gently (really gently) push plectrum between the front and display (not more than 2mm to 5mm, otherwise the display and touch separately). A drive around it once or twice to dissolve the glue. Then try to remove the display / touch screen from below (with my forth below by the Navi key, not the reverse). Watch out for the flex and connectors, so they are not damaged. In separate action all over the screen or there will never touch the spots and shadows on the display.

The local service center of Sony in my country doesn't offer service to replace the housing of my Xperia Arc unless I'll buy the parts (housing or body + digitizer) from them. They won't do it if I'll just provide the housing which, say for example, came from ebay. It should include the digitizer and be ordered from them. The funny thing is that it will cost me as much as what a brand new Xperia Arc costs right now in my country.
So I guess, I have to do it myself to save money. I'm just afraid to mess up.
PS.: Can anyone post a link of the proper tools needed to do the disassembly/re-assembly? (e.g.: screwdrivers, glues?, etc.)
Great
Great with these sorts of guides
i've managed to disassemble digitizer from household and there is some kind of glue. The best way is to heat up a little around the smartphone household and the try to remove the display. putting back new display is easy and doesn't need any new glue, just put it in the place and press around firmly.

ummm i think when u meant by "rainbow colors" then ure gonna have to replace the WHOLE LCD screen, cuz more than likely its from the LCD screen, and i dont think the touch screen and LCD screen are 2 parts...i think theyre just one...not sure, but try to look on ebay OR idk if u have warranty on it u can probably call in HTC about it...
This is what I think will fix the scratches

mikechannon.net is a good place to start. But if you are looking to replace the digitizer only, you won't find it there. It's a bad move anyway. I tried that, cracked my lcd and end-up buying the whole lcd like this.
All I can tell you are my mistakes.... lol....
- never peel of the digitizer. it will ruin it.
- never try to remove the lcd with cutter blade. this is how i cracked it (stupid me and still regret it)
- between the lcd and the digitizer there is a thick, clear double tape like glue. i came across some information about this somewhere (forget where...). one said you should heat the glue first (don't know how to apply this without affecting the lcd) . other one said have to use dental floss.
So, there you go.
HTC Touch Pro- LCD & Digitizer replacement instuctions
Hi everyone. I have SCOURGED the internet looking for some kind of decent instructions to replace the LCD & Digitizer screen on my HTC Touch Pro (Sprint) phone with the new set I purchased from Hong Kong. Mike Shannon's site does NOT give directions for this specific area.
I have seen you all talking about needing to do the same thing and wonder if anyone has done it? And do you have any directions to help me?
I've had this part for a month now, and can't find any directions to do it! My dog chewed it, and the touch works, but the screen is half black now. I read it is easier/less risky to replace both lcd and digitizer, which I went ahead and purchased them both with the tools, now I just need to find something decent (instructions) to have help replacing it.
thanks to anyone who can step up to help me, I'm frustrated beyond all comprehension, and now feel I may as well ditch the phone if I can't find a way to replace it. Or maybe you know someone I could send it off to? Everyone wants to charge a couple hundred bucks sending it in to them!
to the appling heat ...u can try putting it in a ziploc bag and boiling it ...and for the instructions this is the best i can do for u http://store.payloadz.com/str-asp-i...nance_Manual_eBooks_Technical-end-detail.html
im pretty sure after all ur fustration 8 dollars wont kill u ...and im pretty sure the condensation from the boiling wont hurt
and i found a free one hope it helps http://www.htcdriver.com/index.php?page=htc-raphael
it's a long trip, in russian, to get to the lcd
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc-touch-pro/
You can use Google translate on it. It seems that the hardest component to get to is the lcd. I also bought the digitizer, since my lcd is fine. I'll post a follow-up if I go for it.
Any luck getting the touch screen off and new one on?
I bought a touch screen and digitizer as separate items. I wish I had known that some kind of clear adhesive is supposed to be between them.
A) What happens if you don't use this adhesive?
B) Has anyone successfully replaced the screen/digitizer with replacements on the fuze or touch pro?
Anyone having luck?
Has anyone actually figured out how to install this? I just got what was supposed to be a replacement LCD+digitizer. they shipped the pieces seperate, so I can't understand how to put them together, since HTC seems to only list the part as one piece and there are no instructions or videos anywhere that indicate how to install them as seperate pieces, or get them to connect.
Dont do it!!
Ok, I just recently bought a parts phone on here (a Fuze) and was "just going to replace the digitizer" (Authors laughs, then cries at statement)
Ok, yes you can replace the digitizer without replacing the screen, BUT they tell you to use an oven (you can buy one from HTC they make it available to their techs, so you need someone that can get that for you). If you do not make sure that ALL of the glue is loose prior to taking the digitizer off you will split the LCD.
It is much simpler to get either a parts phone or a screen and digitizer and replace the part. I had to replace my digitizer as the touch function did not work. You can find older project phones in the market section. If you figure the cost of a parts phone (plus you have extra parts if anything else goes out) vs. if you buy a digitizer, then rip a part of the LCD because all of the glue was not disolved, and have to buy either a parts phone or a new phone anyway you will be way ahead of the game.
There are a number of good resources on here as to how to disassemble and reassemble the fuze.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TRYING TO REPLACE THE DIGITIZER ALONE IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED OR HAVE THE PROPER EQUIPMENT - unless you need a reason to sell your spouse on why you need a new phone. "Honey, I tried my hardest to fix it, but I guess it is really broke now, I'm gonna have to get an HD2"
If you have any questions about the process let me know I am always more than happy to help.

Yes, indeed, mike channon does offer a very detailed service manual for the raphael.
Replacing the display on the HTC Touch Pro (Raphael): Some Tips
Replacing the display on the HTC Touch Pro
How To - Tips
1. Collect information
a. Find the Service Manual HTC Touch Pro (Raphael) on Mike Channons's site, the Raphael wiki or you could Google for it. File name is "HTC Raphael_SM_A10 _GENERIC__01 Dec 08.pdf".
Take a look at the disassembly and assembly chapters of the Service Manual.
The following two lists may be helpful.
---
List 1: types and quantities of screws
[SPL no., P/N, pages of Service Manual, description, quantity used in Raphael]
10. 72H01893-00M (see p. 34), black (middle length), 2x
11. 72H02450-00M (see p. 32, 34, 30), black (shortest type), 7x
12. 72H02474-00M (p. 37), black (longest type), 4x
13. 72H02689-00M (p. 30), metal, 4x
26. 72H02865-00M (p. 35), metal, 6x
27. 72H02886-00M (p. 35), 1x torque screw for M/B, 1x
---
List 2: kinds of tape/fabric used in the Raphael
a. Conductive fabric
Self adhesive conductive fabric, parts 14-24 on the SPL. The adhesive backside is also conductive.
b. Mylar
A specific kind of polyethylenetereftalaat (PET) used for electical insulation.
c. Kapton tape
Kapton is a polyimide film which can remain stable in a wide range of temperatures. (electrical insulation)
d. EMI gasket
EMI shields are implemented in a design to isolate one component or section of a device from another.
e. Double sided tape
---
b. Movies of the disassembly process can be found on YouTube for the HTC Diamond.
The Diamond does not have an integrated keyboard, so it is a bit different, but it is good enough to get an idea of the process.
The information on how to replace the screen itself is not found in the service manual.
c. Study the last few stages of the HTC Touch Pro page on pdacenter.ru
(Translate the page into English using Google.)
The display is attached to the metal frame by 4 small pieces of double sided tape.
3. Get some tools
a. Phillips (cross head) screwdriver size 00x50
The right size is 00. The length, 50mm, is less important.
There is one torque screw in the Raphael (SPL no. 27), but it can easily be handled by a normal screwdriver.
b. Plastic stick (to open the case)
The standard plastic stick I had ordered was actually too big. The one I made myself was smaller and proved to be better.
c. Other tools
I did not use these, but if you plan to do more than one it would be a good idea to use the
- plastic tweezers
- ESD wrist wrap
- rubber gloves
4. Buy a display with touch screen attached to it
You could buy the touch screen and the display separately, but I could not find any information on putting them together. Avoid problems by buying these already attached.
5. Replace the display
a. Disassemble following the Service Manual, leaving the M/B unit in order.
Be careful not to break the small speaker cords. Do not move them too much because they are very fragile.
Be sure to keep every piece of tape safe for reassembly. Buying new tape can be quite expensive.
b. For the last stages, follow the instructions from pdacenter.ru.
Press the old display gently out of the metal frame. Move the pieces of double sided tape from the old to the new display, and fit the new one into the metal frame.
c. Reassemble following the Service Manual.
Good luck!
What will fit what?
Will the lcd and digitizer from a sprint version work on an alltel version(ppc-6850)? Or is there another lcd and digitizer that i can use? Im back to the old berry 8703 and its killing me.
spammer said:
if you just find scratches on the surface, then you just need to change the touch screen digitizer. the soldering is requested when you fit it.
But of course, if you buy the one that lcd and touch screen fit together one, then no soldering request.
Anyway, soldering is not such difficult if you has the tool.

I don't see any soldering involved there. The digitizer is fitted with thin lines of some kind of glue or kit around the edges. I have not seen any documentation on it though.

you can look at the connect flex cable part of your touch screen and the lcd, you will find they are soldered together. Of course , if you don't soldering it together, it will also work, but not as good as after soldering.
*** Updated and added new pictures on this post and post no3. ****
Since I could not find anything on the web about disassembly, I jumped in head first and it came apart pretty easy. The biggest mystery was trying to take the LCD housing apart because there were no screws showing. But after some investigation I noticed there is a textured tape like covering on the ends of the bottom part of the LCD housing, which is covering 4 screws! The replacement of the digitizer was pretty simple because its only attached to the housing not the display (LCD)! So this removes the worry about breaking the lcd display. I did pull a 4pin connector for the side volume control off the board ,while trying to disconnect it, so I having a tricky soldering job ahead of me.
Update: I forgot to mention about using a hair dryer to loosen the glue that holds the digitizer to the housing, this makes a much easier job of removal. Thanks: jetcitydevices, see his post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7983391&postcount=41 for more details

Hey mmone3,
Good job! Looks good! Keep it up... I would suggest just going to your local hardware store and buying a torx screwdriver. Thats all you really need... there is a plasic tool us cell techs use. Its basically a plasic flathead screwdriver and could be replaced with a guitar pick and also a metal awl which can be replaced with an ice pick. Those are for prying snapped-in plastic housing. And yeah... I told you the lcd is pain! Lol... I havent taken apart the mts yet but have opened hundreds of phones. They can be tricky but it helps if your a tech and can reach on your store shelf and pick up a front lcd housing or a ribbon if you break one by mistake
Just ordered my digitizer/lcd screen....hopeful I won't break anything taking it apart. You should make a video
I wonder if anyone has come across any gt540 housing aka replacement cases with different colours. I've made quite a few changes to the phones software (roms, themes, etc), so now I would also like to change the look or colour of it too. So if anyone has come across such things then please drop a link here

I don't have any case replacement suggestions, but I also want the mod the housing and would be interested in any suggestions.
Also I'd like to remove front-facing t-mobile and LG logos - to cover them up or otherwise remove them.
I think I can break down the phone to get under the plastic cover, but I wonder what would be a good method for hiding the logos? A little black paint? Or is there a way to rub them off or actually remove them?
acetone maybe, but beware, acetone dislikes plastic and well just dont get it on the phone but maybe a drop on a earcleaner and try with that?
You could just respray the whole case. Sand it down then spray it. You will need a couple of different types of sprays to do it properly. Research on who to spray phone plastic. Its doable but hard and very easy to mess up. I was thinking of doing that myself but Im trying to find other things 1st before I come to that.
one question guys. is it possible to change ful housing on my gt540?
greets
gt 540
me too i want to know if we can change the housing . .
Its defiantly possible ive had both my GT540s disassembled and ive had everything apart, u just need to take note of were everything goes, ive made videos on how to take them apart, right to removing the screen and digitizer. a new Fascia is all that your would need or to make things easier a new fascia and screen and digi included. Search Tech2Tuts on Youtube for videos
I spray painted my housing yesterdag. Took the whole phone apart first.
Only thing I didnt spray was the digitizer. I used a glossy black color. Kind of cool, because the lg logo and 3mp icon just shine trough in the right light.
I sprayed directly on the plastic housing, without sanding or anything. Looks pretty good. But I dont think the paint is super dureable. And all the little lines around the chrome are hard to fill with paint. Used acetone btw to clean off accidently sprayed parts..

Hello folks,
I had a chance to work on my friends arc who bought a Rogers version and dropped it. He had it totally mess on the case and needed the full housing replacement.
I hope that doesn't happen to anyone. I didn't take any photos but I am trying to explain everything as it was to help anyone with this.
General Note:
- Anywhere you got stuck, watch some X10 Disassembly video
- Be very gentle to your phone in this process
- Besides all the screws the rest of the phone is put together with glue(Sticky Back) and snap(plastic for main board)
- Using this information on your own risk as I don't take any responsibility if anything happens to your phone.
Instruction
1) Remove the back battery cover. Thats the easiest part
2) Need star shaped screw driver[Trox](I bought the set for $5) there are 4 screws like that and two which opens with phillips screwdriver(tiny) This is what I bought
All the above we all have seen them
3) After removing the 6 screws remove the front fascia of the phone with a guitar picks, something skinny but sturdy*
* I recommend not using anything other than rubber or plastic in the whole process.
4) Main board is snapped in with plastic to the body which easily can be opened.
5) Little board on the bottom is glued(sticky back @ top) which you can remove with pulling little hard but make sure you don't break it.
6) Majority of the wire you see connected to mainboard can be discounted (snap in wires)
7) Removing the screen: from outside of the phone (like you are looking directly to screen like you normally do) you need to put something under neat and raise up the screen. This part has glue as well and its hard to lift but I did it and it should be possible.
8) if you are doing a full housing replacement, then there are stuff here and there that you need to remove and re-use it on the new housing(Like 3.5 mm jack, HDMI lid, etc.)
Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions.
1st time... ehm.. taking the Arc apart, that is!

I change full housing and not sure if you have to remove the hard key button from the bottom end of the phone too or not but that little board on the bottom is glue which you can remove with pulling little hard but make sure you don't break it.

Thanks for the clarification. I was also suspecting since this area gets damn hot when playing games and even at charging (sometimes).
So seems like they move the CPU from behind the battery in X10 to near to the camera in Arc .
Can I change only the front faceplate around the screen without removing the mainboard? How easy would that be? I want to change mine to Misty Silver as Rogers only carry the Midnight Blue.
Also, for glued parts, do I have to glue them back on the new housing?

Glue part, they are more sticky than glued. You just simply stick it back where it was.
Where is the silver face you found?
This is retarded from them...
Digitizer and screen(one part) are sticked to the front face. In order to for your to change the faceplate only(front) you may have to go through the whole process because the wires from digitizer are going through a big hole to the main board. You don't want to mess around with $700 or $800.
Inside, everything is small. really small. I thought I totally screwed up the whole thing. Technology has gone forward alot since I was a kid putting radio together.
Good Luck

Yes, there are two board one above battery and one below batter @ bottom of the phone
On top is the main board
on bottom is the board for hard keys.
Nicely put together but they could have done a better job there....
Are there three parts to the housing? I assume there is the front plate, middle housing with the chrome, and the battery cover. The mainboard should be in the middle with the chrome. So I can't just detach the screen front the front plate? What is holding the three pieces of housing together? The six screws?
There are silver housings on eBay from time to time. Though, blue is a lot more common.
Three pieces. Back battery cover which is nothing.
Then there are two main pieces.
Chrome which is more like a holder of the fascia.
If I remember correctly, the front Fascia is the one holding all the board on it including that metal look piece(aluminum probably)
I will take photos and upload here...
Uploaded photos to the first post...
Hey, I'm looking to replace the chrome piece which has a few nasty chips in it, after removing the second back cover, how easy is it to take off that chrome piece?
Great post
How can I replace digitizer? I dropped my phone and the glass cracked
anyone know where i can get the tiny screw driver? I cant seem to find the correct one. they are either too small or too big.
how easy is it to replace the front cover, ive cracked the top of it and chipped a bit out the side (surrounding the screen) i presume it'd be simple enough. And does anyone know where i can get a good quality/genuine front cover replacement?

Sorry, you could have sent a private message.
I bought the screw driver here at local tool shop. Home Depot sells them.
Its called Trox Screw Driver and I bought exactly this one http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100087664&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_sku=100087664&ci_kw={keyword}&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googleads-_-pla-_-100087664&ci_gpa=pla&locStoreNum=618
I don't have the packaging but they should be standard.
Good Luck

You can find the whole housing between $30 to $40 but the front cover is that actual main piece that holds all the internal components + the screen.
If the crack doesn't bug you much, I would not do it since you have to replace the sticker behind you battery as well, which is not easy to peel off + you have to take the screen off the old front fascia which is glued and kind of hard to take off.
Downside of the whole thing for me was the sticker. I have to find an alternative for this problem.
just found a very easy way to replace the whole display in just 3 minutes by accessing it from the front side..
i am not yet allowed to post the link, but if you google this
IMPEXTROM CAMBIAR TROCAR DISPLAY HTC HD2
you will see the 3 minutes video
seems possible as there are 19 positive and just one negative vote on this video..
(my display was broken, but have worked for a year or so.
now it is frozen/ unresponsive and i have purchased a full display.)
but it seems too easy to be true ...
any hints?
thanx &cheers
That been set up for the video as you can see it been off before & the chassis the lcd is bonded to is clean of all bonding tape :-/
Also original has signal interference tape runing down sides across all 3 layers.
also if you heat the front first thing to seperate is the digi from LCD as the lcd to mid chassis is a strong bond.
Best way is popping them out of rear cover, fitting a pre built lcd/digitizer is not hard, just use quality adhesive to hold lcd to centre chassis & buy pre cut black foam tape for the top & bottom digi glass edges or rebuild is next to pointless without this done well.
I've done a good 30 odd HD2 screen & mainboards & no way I could do it to my standard via that video.
Hi Mister B - thanks a lot for your advice, i believe you are right!
but as i have never attempted to disassemble a mobile phone, is there a video tutorial how to do that properly for an absolute beginner?
as I need my phone functioning tomorrow, i'm considering to try it in the morning.

Not sure if Mister B will reply in time, there is a good thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566179 with a video in post 2 else google hd2 disassembly youtube perhaps
Hi Robbie P,
Thanks a lot for the link!
Now it seems I will have to postpone this operation for a day or so, until i learn:
1) What time I would need (seems about 2h for a beginner)
2) What money I would need - as I have to buy these tools- what would be a price... i guess 10-15 euros?
(BTW Finally I guess that people who published aforementioned 3.5-minutes tutorial did so not to help us, but to make us damage our smartphones, so their services would then earn more, repairing it?
As I see no other explanation...Now found another such a scam video -
just google " HTC HD2 repair, disassembly manual ")
Cheers
Have a good read of link put up by robbie p
I done a few posts in it that worth looking at as you don't need remove the flexboard & volume button & antenna cables which saves a lot of possible accidents & hassle.
Most important thing is extreme care, volume button is damaged easily if pry of back badly or with screwdriver. antenna tabs are snapped off mainboard with poor handling while separating the layers.
It easy to do but first one is never perfect unless you really pay attention.
You don't need much tools, a basic kit from ebay for about 4euros will cover you along with things you probably got already such as hairdryer & razorblades etc.
Just buy good padded tapes to fit top & bottom of digitizer & strong tape to bond lcd to centre chassis

Hi Mister B!
Thanks a lot for you precious advise.
Will try to do it myself, not in a hurry, as soon as I get 3 hours spare time - hoping it would be enough.
Then I will need to install some good Android instead of the original WM6.5- but that is for another topic
My Qs:
You don't need much tools, a basic kit from ebay for about 4euros will cover you
this is what I got with my display from Ebay: Is it enough?
1 pry tool ,1T5 screwdriver and 1 T6 screwdriver.
Just buy good padded tapes to fit top & bottom of digitizer
I also got this one from Ebay: is it good? if you paste the title below into ebay.co.uk it you will see more details:
2mm Double Sided Layer Adhesive Sticky Tape Sticker for Mobile Phone Glue LCD
& strong tape to bond lcd to centre chassis
Which width, and should it also be double-sided?
Cheers
For tape you want this >

I assume you have lcd & digitizer pre-built new !?
You would be better off with couple more decent pry tools, the green ones tend be better than the blue plastic stuff.
I use 2 pry tools on top of HD2 either side of speaker grill as makes back housing removal a few second job & leaves not one mark if done right.
Only other thing you may need is tweezers & cleaning buds for old glue.
top digitizer tape need be right or blocks sensor hole or looks shabby.
Don't force the old lcd off centre chassis as if gets bent then never fit back right, warming it up with hairdryer helps ease it off.
I always have a spare button board on hand too as makes it easy bench test the lcd/digitizer hook to mainboard side by side with battery held on mainboard pins & spare button board used to power on, also good as likely find old board breaks if gone brittle.

tools I've got
Hi Mister B!
Thanks so much for your suggestions!
Yes, I've got the full display, and only the tools as on the photo.
My few Qs:
Only other thing you may need is tweezers & cleaning buds for old glue.
Could not find plastic tweezers, only metal ones... But those cotton sticks for ears i have
I could order the LCD tape, though it seems a long wait (7-10 days) for express delivery up here, so is there an alternative?
Thanks for a link to the button board! As I guess mine is damaged, for during last few months I had to press hard on the power button to get the phone responsive again. Then even this trick stopped working.
But also due to the longer waiting to get in from China - is there a way to test and learn if i need to replace it , before starting digging into my HD2?
Cheers
I would get the lcd digi top/bottom tape kit as what you got in big roll will be no good.
all else is good.
button board is handy as ribbons go brittle so can break plus you can use it to power up the device in a pre build test with lcd/digi & mainboard laid flat side by side & new ribbon plugged in to mainboard to power on. Most stuff makes it to uk pretty quickly, quicker order - quicker get it
Well, i will then order both items today, in hope it won't take too long to deliver up here (Belgrade, Serbia).
A video tutorial with all the tricks you have suggested would be the easiest way to follow, but it seems there's no such a video - yet.
Certainly, I'am either not sure whether will be able to film my own attempt.
Mister B - thanks so much! Following your suggestions, and the topic mentioned by Robbie P - I will likely manage to do the job properly!
Cheers
If have any question during rebuild post them here & I will respond as soon as see it.
Good luck ...
Thanks!
