Ok i was restoring from a backup and now after telling the tablet to reboot from recovery it just loops right back to recovery. I do get something that says ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix? THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE. ?? hmm Anybody know how I can get out of this? Can I push stock image through adb if I am stuck in CWM? Oh by the way if I try to get into bootloader mode it just goes back to CWM. Try holding the power button for a while it goes to CWM. I can not put the phone in usb debug because I can not get to rom. HELP

Hi all,
I tried rooting my Nexus S and now it only roots into Clockwork Recovery. I am completely new to rooting but I am sure that there must be a way to restore factory settings to the phone if it will boot to something and is not bricked.
At this point if I could just replace everything on the phone with whatever comes stock to include the system image and recovery image I would be ecstatic. If someone could help me with step by step instructions to make this happen I would be extremely appreciative.
EDIT: The top of the screen says in red: FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG

There's currently no way to flash back to stock recovery, but it will come in time.
When you're in Clockwork recovery and select reboot system it ends up back in Clockwork?
What if you power off the phone, then hold up volume rocker and turn on power, then once in fastboot select reboot? What happens then?

OMG Thank you SO much. That worked like a charm.
I just got the new CWM recovery update through Rom Manager today, and it said it was successfully flashed, but the phone only hangs on the HTC logo when goingto recovery. I can still do fastboot and boot to Android tho, so I'm now gonna try to figure out how to get my recovery back before something bad happes xD
anyone have advice or know where I can download a standalone copy of CWM 5.0.0.1 for G2?
Wish me luck I'll keep updating as things progress
okipokey, solved my own issue. Just had to reflash back to an older recovery and try again a couple times before it stuck.
Time to test out the new recovery!
I decided to flash the upgrade as well. The flash went perfectly. However, I couldn't boot into recovery while within Android. I had to power off and boot into the bootloader and then select recovery... Whenever I tried to reboot to recovery via the Android UI, it restarted and hung at the boot splash screen.. It didn't even work if you selected the option from the ROM Manager itself... I rolled back to previous version as well and its working again. It may be a bug... Early adopters nightmare....
Same here just reinstalled the new version and it worked second time round
must be a bug they havn't quite worked out. Next time I'll do a fastboot flash instead for a low build number.
First time I flashed I tried it from a battery pull through HBOOT and it still hung. Reflash to 3.5 and then back to 5.0 fixed it like you guys

try just reflashing version 5 I had the same problem, but rebooted the phone reflashed version 5 from the rom manager and now is all good
I just sent the dev a comment about it on his Google+
maybe he'll have a fix out soon
Nice one, seems a "double flash" fixes it have just tested 3 or 4 times, seems to be working
yessir, seems to me that if it's a bug its really minor. I can see this being a problem if someone accidentally screws up something on their phone right after flashing the recovery, but not very likely and they'd still be able to reflash through fastboot
Seemed to flash the new version ok. But then, when trying to boot into recovery for the first time, the phone hung on the HTC logo boot splash. Pulled battery, and booted into recovery ok after that.
that's interesting that some of you didn't hang after the battery pull while mine did. Maybe it depends which version we're upgrading from?
stuck at htc
hey i also had this problem and i can't get my g2 to boot up at all. It hangs at the htc screen. I don't know how to fix this issue as i was trying to restore a backup from recovery right after the update. i can't get into recovery or anything else...all i get is the htc screen. Any ideas how I can fix this?
Luis
Any sign of a changelog?
I have no idea how to get to a changelog...can you tell me how?

-From Mr.Dutta via G+
I've just finished releasing updates to a bunch of devices to ClockworkMod Recovery 5.
Major changes:
Backups now use tar over yaffs for everything except mtd partitions. Backups got way faster.
Backups now preserve the filesystem type at time of backup. Restores will restore the appropriate filesystem type at restore.
Please update to ROM Manager 4.4.0.3 or higher and try out the new recovery!
Troubleshooting:
Flashing issues: If a recovery does not flash properly, enable erase recovery in settings and try flashing it again. Recovery flashing can be finicky at times.
Bugs: Report them to me! You can always revert back to the older recovery too from within ROM Manager!
So far no issues here while playing around.
my issue is i can't get back to android at all now. i went into rom manager to restore a backup and was told there was an update, then it reflashed the recovery. When i tried to restore my backup it froze and i have not been able to get past the htc screen at all.

can you get into the HBOOT?
pull the battery, put it back in, hold the volume down button and then hit the power button. you should come to a white screen with some options
In the case you want to update your recovery using fastboot method, heres what you'll need:
CWM 5.0.0.1 for G2 (Vision)
HTC Sync drivers
ADB fastboot from Android SDK
Make sure your phone is all the way off by pulling the battery. Get into the HBOOT by holding down the volume down button and then hitting the power. use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select. Choose "FASTBOOT"
Rename the recovery that you downloaded from CWM to "recovery.img" and put it in your ADB and Fastboot folder
plug your phone into your computer and pull up a command line for your adb/tools/ or adb/platform-tools/ folder where you should have ADB and Fastboot.
under the command line type in:
fastboot devices
<list of devices>
If you do not see your device make sure the cable is plugged in and your drivers are installed. if still nothing try a different cable til you get it to be recognized by the computer.
Once it's recognized do:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
when its done:
reboot
I flashed through ROM manager. On suggestion, I checked the box for "erase recovery - recovery will be erased prior to flashing". On first reboot to recovery it sticks at HTC screen. Pulling battery and vol. up+power then entering recovery the 2nd time works just fine.
Hope this helps.
I cannot figure out how to boot into recovery from phone off state. If I go to ROM Toolbox pro and reboot that way into recovery, then it works fine, but NOT from phone off state. Thanks.
Press/hold vol down + press/hold power will get you to the bootloader, then select recovery from there.

Did you "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" or "fastboot boot recovery.img"?
Got, it. Reinstalling recovery from Goomanager, worked. For whatever reason, my recovery was repalced or gone.

I tried flashing clockwork mod recovery from Rom Manager and it downloads all the way and than says that a problem occured. Can somebody please help me with my situation. When I press the power button and the volume down button and it brings me to the bootloader and i navigate to recovery, it just brings an android guy with a red triangle. please help me. I just want a custom recovery. I don't care what it is. Either TWRP or clockwork mod.

My phone is now in a boot loop because of my attempted flash. Please help me fix this. I am able to boot into both firmware update mode and factory reset mode. For the factory reset mode I am able to boot into the reset mode but as soon as I try to wipe it just reboots again. I have tried to use the lg firmware update tool using com5 and com41 and using both they stop at 49% and the phone just disconnects from the program/computer. Help Please! !

For stock recovery, yes you'll see that screen. On that screen all you have to do is press power button and then press volume up (just one quick press) and it will take you into recovery menu.

You have a LG G2, so please. Ask in you device respective forum. LG G2 got its own forum too you know.
Hi guy, need some help with going to recovery mode.
So, I wanted to factory reset the phone(in stock rom with supersu), but when I press it, it couldn't get to the recovery screen. And instead, it's just a dark blank screen, and the phone is still on. I can hold the power button and my phone would restart normally. So, then I tried to flash the lastest CWM to maybe flash to another rom, but when the CWM finished flashing and it couldn't enter the recovery mode, and again stuck on the dark blank screen.
Any help would be appreciated.
Software version: VS98012b
Oh yeah, these messages are from my attempt to flash cwm
adb cannot run as root in production builds
dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reovery: cannot open for write: permission denied
thanks

Same issue here cept I can get into download mode. Had safestrap NC2 4.4.2 Over 4.3 Rooted. But It just chain reboots into recovery. I'm debating to just start over ( don't want to) But I wonder if there's another fix.\
**Update**
I found a workaround.
Pull the battery put it back
Then Press and hold power/home/volume down to go into download mode then Cancel it to exit and it should boot as normal. Piece of **** boot loop You can then Select in safestrap in the OS to reboot into recovery then it will try and be stuck in the loop again. Then pull the battery then put it in download mode again then cancel and it will boot into the recovery where you can wipe/etc.
For everyone running nc2 firmware. The stock recovery (sammys recovery) is broke. Booting into nc2 recovery will start bootloops. If you do. Pull battery put it back and boot directly into dl mode then cancel and the phone will boot like normal. For those of you on nc4 firmware (latest ota) if you flash a custom rom and get the blackscreen trying to boot you will need to reboot to download mode and odin the nc2 kernel. Then reboot and it will fire up.

You are a saint! Just saved me from a laborious work around. Why isn't this the standard advice around here? Such a practical solution.
