Hi Guys i hope somebody who knows about capacitive touch screens can help me! I have taken my HD2 apart to fix a smashed camera lense. On removing the back cover i used a small screwdriver to prise off the back case and unclip it all round. It came off with no problem, i fixed the camera and put it back together. When i turned the device back on the touch screen isn't responding to my finger on any screen. Like i turned the touch screen off! The hard buttons still wok but nothing from the screen. Nothing looks damaged (I.e the glass isn't smashed). I seem to think i might have damaged something when prising the cover off with the screwdriver. Please, any suggestions would be really helpful!!!
Can anybody out there help with this? I am currently without a phone :-(
I have exactly the same problem, but it happened from nowhere. I didnot unscrew anything. Please Help
Check the flex cable.. this part are very delicate.

same problem
ive got the same problem, mine just stopped working, i performed a soft and hard reset, removed the battery still nothing. it worked for a moment but once locked it stopped working again, only the hard buttons.
same problem but it works on and off. basically the screen will respond until the phone is put into hibernate. the after that id have to push the phone button and end button back and forth until it responds
Same Issue independant of ROM
Same issue here.
Funny thing is it started a week or two ago randomly out of the blue.
Same scenario:
lock the phone can't get touchscreen to respond for unlock
Judging by these posts everyone started seeing this about the same time, maybe it's a software issue or background app .
Help!
I have same problem. It can work for a couple of hours or in 1-2 days then just stop responding, almost every time when in hibernate. Lets just hope it's not hardware failure.
This started happening to me this morning. Out of 50 tries, managed to unlock the phone three times only. This happened out of the blue, right after i removed my phone from the charger.
Have soft reset, hard reset, reflashed ROM, but the issue still remains.
I really really hope this is not a hardware issue.
Does anyone out there know how to solve this? My phone is virtually unusable right now...
Same problem here, I've been testing for about 2,5 months now and today I've sent mine back to HTC . I think it's a hardware problem, tried everything from hard resetting to reflashing. When I press the HTC logo and keep it pressed the screen does respond again. Conclusion: hardware problem.

You're probably right.
I've also tried everything. But kind of strange that if I lock when not on home tab it seems to work. And the screen, almost always, reacts as it should as long as I just dont' lock it.
I just started to get this issue. touch screen works fine until it hibernates. reflashed, still happens. found this in my search:
htcphones.net/htc-hd2-problems-with-touchscreen/
just got off the phone with tmo. they are sending me a new one.
Yeah, it happened to me as well. I opened a new thread like a month ago explaining the problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710282&styleid=15
and I contributed in another one concerning the same issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708530
Summing all up, it ain't caused by a software or a ROM of some kind (at least in my case) because soft and hard resets didn't solve it nor did the flash of a stock ROM. The most probable cause is a digitizer (touchscreen) defect that appears randomly and totally out of the blue. The only thing to do in my opinion is to send the phone in for repair, which I did. It came back with a check mark on "calibrated screen" checkbox. As of now phone's working fine and I hope they solved it even though I read of other people who have had their leo's screens completely replaced..
A curious side note: htc care reset to zero my phone's call duration timers..
I'm not sure if it's the screen. In my case I think it's the connector from the screen to the motherboard, because pressing the housing seems to help.
But let's see if HTC is able to repair it, I hope they are, because the problem is so random they might not even see it
After losing functionality on my touch screen for a week, finally decided to send it in. Took the trouble to revert my HSPL to original and Stock Rom.
Repair should take about a week. Now I'm stuck with an ancient Nokia 6230i for this week. I feel so lost without my ppc. Have had one for as long as I can remember.
Hopefully the phone comes back okay...
I've had so much problem with the screen not responding so I did all backup then reflashed, hard reset to put the device back to stock. Did this during the weekend, I even fired up my old iphone 3g to have as backup phone.
All set today to go to the store and have it repared under warranty.
But since Sunday evening it works perfect. I've been testing it a lot and the screen has not stop responding even once.
This might be just temporarily but does anyone else experienced something like this?
Mine sometimes worked well for hours... days... but eventually the problem came back.
Mine died on me when I was actually out of the country (stuck in Vietnam without a phone). It would work for 5 minutes, then stop for hours. I would have to switch my phone on and off for a couple hundred times before it worked for another 5 minutes...
Got so tired of it that i sent back my HD2 for warranty repair. Expect it to be back tomorrow (or Friday at the latest). Hope there's no further problems with it.
I hate to say it, but the HD2 is known for its highly defective touchscreen. Even when it's working, a lot of people experience strange and bothering events, such as the touchscreen "touching" itself, a very high/very low screen sensitivity all of a sudden, the tilting of the screen to one of the four corners of the device and so on and so forth.
With a device so expensive one would expect it to work flawlessly. Seems to me that HTC doesn't think the way we do...
I got up this morning, grabbed my tablet, switched it on and found that no matter what, it wouldn't respond to touch input.
Hoping I could sort of "kick it" by using a keyboard I plugged one in and while that worked fine, it didn't unstick the digitizer.
Had to reboot.
Anyone else seen this?
I've had this happen once or twice, and as you mentioned the only way to get it to respond was by a reboot.
oooooo.... never happened to me for the full 6 day since i have this tab i suggest you turn then for replacement....
just remembered something are you guys by any chance use screen filter? that causes touch problems in some spots....
I'm using it on my phone but but not the iconia
its has happen twice in the last two days. Usually when the tab is left for a while hours. You're right the only way to unlock is to reboot.

Na, I'm not using a screen filter. It happened twice in the first couple of days of owning it and hasn't happened for the last couple of weeks. I've had the same thing happen on the Desire HD a couple of times as well. It doesn't happen very often so I'm not overly concerned.
Jup, sometimes the screen doesn't respond. I found that if you rotate it (even with the lock on) and then turn on the device the screen wants to rotate and will then be unresponsive. Reboot and all is fine. Seems like a software bug to me.
Just in case you haven't done so, remove the sticker on the right border. It has a metallic back and interferes with the screen. I had that happen on a display model at BB twice withing 10 minutes. Once I removed it, no more problems. And I haven't had any problems with my purchased one.
A friend of mine bought one online and complained about the same thing. I told him to remove the sticker and the issue went away.
the sticker on mine was removed in the first five minutes. haven't had the problem again yet. hope it was a fluke
I just got my transformer in a few days ago, bought it off of a store on eBay that I HAVE ordered from before. All the plastic was on the device and everything, thank god I haven't flashed custom ROM. Just a few minutes ago my girl was playing pinball when the screen started going NUTS on her. The screen started flashing on and off and then colored waves of pixels started passing through random bits of the screen. The game stayed in the background while all this happened I guess on top of it. It just kept doing it and would act like it was going to stop for a second then happen again. Finally I was able to turn it off after having to time my ninja-like finger jabs with the screen flicker. I waited a few minutes and turned it on again. The ASUS screen popped up and then went black for a minute, I pressed the power button quickly and the Eee pad screen popped up and then went into the lock screen. Everything seemed normal for 2-3 minutes, I downloaded a quick dead pixel detector app and everything passed fine. I just rooted last night using Razorclaw, so I checked my superuser to make sure there were no problems (just in case) and it needed an update. I did so and checked it, because it kept force closing auto-open apps when the tablet booted, after the update those apps opened fine (titanium and rom toolbox). right after this, maybe about total 7 or 8 minutes after booting, the screen began flashing again as I was trying to uninstall the dead pixel app. eventually she timed her own finger jabs with the demon screen flicker and clicked OK to uninstall app. as it was uninstalling the screen started working fine. right after it was done uninstalling (bout 30 seconds), what do you know, the bloody ( i love that word) screen started being crackhead-ish again. Its turned off now. Does anyone have any prior experience with this issue? I will contact the razorclaw team to ask them if maybe its a side effect, but I just wanted to see if any of you folk knew anything about this. It IS a newer B70 model and I do have another 5 days to ship it for a return from the seller. I'm pretty sure I will unless I get a response with a sure fix for this being software or something. Also while I've got your attention, I'm under the impression I can boot to stock recovery to factory reset? hopefully at least.... and if I do so, please tell me this will remove root access?
Thanks much in advance for your answers, which I'm sure there will be some useful info as usual with XDA.

UPDATE: MY tablet won't turn on now.
Best option, return the defect peice..
Hey .. if you have 5 days to return to the shipper, go ahead and return the defect piece. My wild guess is that it has no connection to the software installed or rooted, its mostly an hardware issue (first of its kind though).
I have not faced any screen related issues with my B80 version...
Return this & Get Prime
Cheers,
Amrth
i do agree with the guy above,
write what hapend and return it, and in hope that they can fix it, if not u will get a brand new or the money back.
My TF101 works flaviously and it's something i wanted and even with custom rom its more better and funnier, so yeah, thats a hardware issue or some "wrong made tablet"
Hello-
I usually do not open threads but I need advice on this recent touch responsiveness issue that has been happening. My Nexus 7 8 GIG was running great I had not had one issue with it, until one day I opened the case "Poetic leather case with magnet locks" and the screen came on notifications were on and animated everything looked fine. I went to unlock it and the touch screen did not respond to anything, now the screen rotates fine and all but it would not respond to touch. So I reset it with the power button, the touch screen then works until it times out and turns off, I wake it up and the screen does not respond again. I took it out of the case and have manually turned it on/off and it still does not respond to touch, but it will work every time I reset it. This problem has came out of nowhere it was running great.
I was originally on AOKP Milestone 1 with Franko's Kernel r25 so I thought maybe that was it so I re flashed Milestone 1 and kept the stock kernel and the problem persists. So I wiped everything and put BAMF Paradigm on it and it still does this, but the touch screen responds every time it is manually reset so I am trying to figure out if this is hardware or software related I am led to believe it is software considering the touch screen works flawlessly upon reboot but again I am not sure.
I have not added any new apps or anything like that to cause a memory leak or such. This problem started when I left the N7 for two days without touching it, then the problem happened after I tried to use it after the two days of inactivity.
Update: I turned the N7 off for about a day booted it back up now the touch screen is working every time I am confused.
So I still have 7 months on my ASUS manufactures warranty should I send this unit back? I just do not want to think its software related and it will get fixed through updates and then find out it is hardware related and be out of the warranty period.
I am on 4.1.2 with the last boot loader "not the new one"
latest version of TWRP
Thanks everyone in advance for your time.
It seems like a magnet bad effect to me! not sure though cuz the nexus 7 suppose to work fine with magnetic cases but it could be a Magnetic field effect. In my opinion as long as it works don't send it cuz you don't know what happens there in the service center, I mean once the device is opened it would never get the same as before.

well i flashed the latest google image and just started fresh. The touch screen is now working without issue so hopefully it was nothing still not sure though what would have caused this though -_-

Hi guys
I have moved from iPhone to a note 4 and loving it!
I was just wondering if anyone has found the touch screen occasionally doesn't respond to their touch and you have to touch it again. On the iPhone it only ever missed a touch if my finger was in the wrong place, but it never happened on the keyboard. Every so often maybe 5/6 times a day I touch a key on the keyboard and nothing happens, when I try again it's fine. I can't reproduce it, because when I tap anywhere on the keyboard something gets pressed. I was just wondering if this was normal?
Hope you are enjoying your phones!!
Anyone?
It's most likely cause your palm is on the phone. One of the downsides of a slim bezel on a big phone. Also keep in mind if your spen is on the screen, your fingers won't work. A case might help.
I thought about another part of my hand touching the screen, however with half my hand layed across my keyboard I can still type with the other hand. Thanks for the response
I Pele tried factory resetting today and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
I rang Samsung this morning and they advised I return I to the store and get an exchange. Luckily my local store got its first batch of note 4s in this morning and they swapped it out. I restored it all firmware updates put on it and now works fine! The only thing I haven't installed is a Google play system update thing. I was wondering if that was the cause x
Similar issues
I've had similar issues (in fact, that's what brought me here in the first place). Initially, I was able to tap on the screen in the text box and then continue typing (I use Swype). However, now my messaging app (default Messages) just freezes up, forcing me to close the app, clear the memory, and relaunch the app before continuing.
Were you using the default app and/or Swype when you had issues? I'm going to try to factory reset my phone to see if it helps.
It's taken a couple of weeks for this problem to develop, so please keep us posted if this problem arises again on your new phone!
Edit: Also want to point out that when I text, I use one hand to hold the phone and only a finger to swipe my text. As such, only the one finger touches the screen.
unable to use touch screen. only hard key were working >>Note4

Same thing happened to me last night. The touchscreen became unresponsive while using chrome. The phone was a little warm but not bad. I didn't try the pen, sounds like a good idea. I am not certain it was a touch screen issue with mine. Almost more of a processor issue. I got the phone to lock. After pressing the menu or lock button to wake the screen it would take 5-10 seconds to wake. Then I could swipe my unlock pattern. It would not show any lines. I would wait, the screen would turn black after timing out in about 5s. The about 5s after I could hear the speaker make the unlock sound. I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue. Anyone else have something similar?
Should I try and replace it?

Observe to see if it happens when you're using other apps too. Chrome has been notorious for causing all sorts of problems, like reboots, freezes, etc on some devices.
Also it may be worth installing Chrome Samsung Support Library.

Got the same problem after 2 months of normal usage... I initially though I had installed a third party application which was causing the system freeze but this was not the problem.
- tried factory resetting and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
- When this happens if I take out the spen .... surprise it work. The pen allows me to do anything... But the touch screen does not work with fingers...
- I used the pen to reboot the note4... Still the same problem after reboot... I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue for.... a couple of minutes... Then the problem came back....
The only solution remaining was to return the phone.... They gave me a Note3 while my Note4 is being repaired...
That's a shame for a product of that price!
:crying:
Same thing is happening with my 2 months old note4 since two weeks ago. An horizontal line 1.5cm in width about 1/3 from the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive. At reboot it works sometimes then it becomes unresponsive again. It looks like in the image I attached, the difference is that the area is horizontal, not vertical. I'm taking my note4 to the store today for warranty, hopefully they will replace it. I haven't abused the device in any way, I have a screen protector since its first day.. I really hope this isn't a serious problem that affects many users.
Just like some of you mentioned above, the pen has no issues on any area of the screen.
Cheers!

same thing happen to my note4 today. the only difference is that yours was fixed for a couple of minutes after removing the battery. my note4 wasn't fixed after that. Only S-pen works, touch screen with fingers wont work. you mentioned you're note4 is getting repaired, did they tell you what may have happened to it so that i'll get an idea of the cause..

Never purchase a device without a return / DOA policy. Not worth the hassle. If it hasn't been 30 days, you should call your credit card company or Paypal and place the amount on dispute, wait, you purchased from another market, please tell you didn't pay by cash.

I have this problem after I flash CWM recovery, before this was flashed with twrp recovery, I reflash stock rom with odin, I flash many times CWM and TWRP and I still have the problem, my warranty it's void now but I think to go at Samsung store to see if they solve my problem. This problem look like a driver for touch corrupted, if somebody find it out how to fix or have any ideea please weritte here, thanks you
I've started to have this problem as well, lower part of the left side of the screen sometimes registers touch instead of scrolling! Very annoying, tried to update recovery, tried tapping screen, doesn't help. The worst thing is I cannot reproduce the issue at will... It seems pretty random.

Unfortunately, if the phone is on Verizon, the dialing codes will be disabled.
Potential fix.
Please excuse the necropost But I came here looking for a solution from google and others may too. I found a way to solve this issue/s.
There appear to be two issues affecting this.
1. Overloading the processor.
2. Static.
If your touch input is lagging or doesn't register at all but then suddenly does a few moments later, its likely a type 1. problem. I fixed this by disabling resource intensive features such as s voice. This also improved battery life and overall performance considerably.
If touch simply doesn't work at all, but s pen works fine then the problem is more likely type 2. That being static buildup in your person. Simply touch something that can ground you and it should fix the issue. A metal tap should work. Be wary, you might even get a little zap as you discharge
