I've finally decided to return my broken kindle fire for a new one, under warranty. It should be here tomorrow.
I haven't used a kindle fire in a couple months, and when I was using it, it was rooted with some rom that I completely forgot.
What I want to know is, what rom should I use, that is the most stable?
I've been hearing good things about Jellybean, but I just want to be 100% sure.
Any suggestions?
Also, a Kindle Fire case suggestion would be nice, but is not needed. Really just want a rom suggestion.

Yea, I heard that case is very stable.
Yea, I'd say go with Jandycane or Hashcode's AOSP ROM. I think Hashcode's is a bit more stable (from my experience), however Jandycane does have more features, and a Tablet UI.
the Eye Candy Rom is pretty amazing.

Update is fast. User friendly UI
Jandycane. Updates frequently, has a tablet UI like ics, works perfectly, and is fully jelly bean.

I would say to give twa_priv's rom a try also. It's a cm10 rom and you can toggle tablet ui in settings.
sent from my Kindle Fire running CM10 Jelly Bean
I am also going to recommend twa_priv's CM10 ROM.
Jandycane is so smooth. I recommend it.
And, Apex Launcher is a good home application for jelly bean.
Off course, why not install xda-application

No it doesn't have expandable memory. I believe it is worth rooting and/or installing a custom rom, I use cm7 and the performance is stellar. With stock you can only get apps from android market by rooting at least temporarily and installling the android market, it doesn't come pre-installed. Enjoy!

thanks...only thing holding me back is the amount of memory...is there cloud storage for amazon content..like books....and is there a stable ics rom for the kf????
sent from Ice Cream Infused NS4g
Definitely root. There is Amazon cloud storage but I believe that's gone once you root.

You will also lose Amazon video/movies if you root the Kindle.
Also, when I rooted the kindle then unrooted it (using OTA Rootkeeper), Amazon video worked again but you will not receive an email notification when you buy things from the Amazon store.
I would also vote for root. I'm running the MIUI ICS alpha 2 build and its pretty stable. Just no video, but this is still only an alpha.

Are you talking about the one geometry hashcode

Didn't mean to say geometry spell check changed it

Chrome doesn't work in most ICS ROMs because it requires HWA, which they don't have yet.
The new kernel 3.0 that's in development/testing does support HWA, but it's ridden with bugs, so it's not a very good idea to flash its ROM unless you really want to test it.
But ive gotten it to work on both cm9/7
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
If you gotten it to work on cm9 then please share how, because again with the lack of hwa in any of the 2.x.x kernels there is no way that you have gotten it to work. The only kernel that provides hwa at the moment is hashcodes 3.0 kernel which has been released for testing and development and is no where near complete. So with this said you may have gotten it to work on a cm7 rom but no way on a cm9 rom without a 3.0 kernel that is still in development.

Like the post above says, where's the screenshots because this is simply impossible without hardware acceleration!! Why do you think hashcode has been working on the 3.0 kernel in the first place? You might as well tell us that you have Netflix working too haha. Not trying to be a douche but I'm telling you it doesn't work with 2.x.x kernels. If you don't believe me go over to hashcodes new user thread in the general section and look at the original post. One of the very first things he instructs users to test to see if the new kernel has any changes is to download the chrome and see if it works.

That doesn't look like Chrome...at least not any version or combination of settings that I've ever seen.
I could be wrong but that's what it says

That's not Chrome, its a browser called Miren (http://miren-browser.en.softonic.com/android), the icon is somewhat similar to chrome, but the similarities end there.
That is definitely not Google chrome.

To clarify: Chrome uses RenderScript extensively. And the 2.6.35 kernel's graphics libraries (from Gingerbread) don't support it very well. Hence Chrome is buggy for almost all Gingerbread kernel-based ICS builds.
The reason Chrome works in the new 3.0 kernel build is that the graphics libraries are brand new and support RenderScript perfectly. Hardware codecs are still not running correctly in the new kernel (among a pleathora of other things).
So the difference for Chrome is RenderScript support and not hardware codecs.
Here are some screenshots of Chrome
Thank you I think the one I downloaded got the image change because it said chrome and has the chrome image

Hello, I need help with Distinguishing between the KF1 and KF2. You see I replaced my KF1 with another KF. But the problem is that I don't know if they sent me a KF2 or KF1. The system of 6.3.1 is installed on it but, the KF feels as fast as a KF2. But, I'm not sure if its a KF2 with 6.3.1 installed on it. Please help me know how to tell the difference.
Sent from my X500
Probably should go in the Q&A section, but I believe that if your KF can't update to the latest KF2 software version (10.something I believe) then you have a KF1. Could be wrong though.

The speed? When your kf is new its crazy fast, but after you fill it up with apps and content it gets slow.

Yes, I guess its a Kindle 1 since I was now able to root it using KFU. Will close this topic soon.

Thanks to all the help I've received, I was finally able to root my KFHD, installed bootloader and TWRP and went as far as flashed Chameleon. After having trying this out for a couple of days, I'm thinking of experimenting with other things. If I want to install say, AWD or Go launchers, I wou ld need to wipe through TWRP correct? I can't simply put the apk files in the sdcard and install, correct?
If you flashed chameleon, shouldn't you have flashed gapps as well so you could simply install those launchers from Google play so you don't need to side load them?

Hi Stunts, yes I do have Gapps. I guess I'm just confused as to whether Chameleon is the "OS" or is it considered a launcher. I didn't want to overwrite Chameleon by accident and brick my KFHD.
I haven't used chameleon before, but its the os, and if it is also a launcher it wouldn't break anything, you are given the choice what launcher you want to use. One doesn't overwrite the other.

I use the HD version, never knew that. Is it just simple ad related data? I typically have ad block running in the background so I never see ads.

I got to wondering and did some checking into it. There is a great thread on XDA about it. Even with droid wall and the sand box it make me uneasy.
