How to take a screenshot on the Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just figured out how to take a screenshot on the N7 and figured I'd pass on the details to anyone else who may be wondering how to do it.
Press down volume + power at the same time and hold until you see the screenshot animation.
Pics will show up in the Gallery as usual.

[Q] Does the N4 come with a default screen capture?

Hey all multiple times I have wanted to take screen shots and I was wondering does the nexus 4 come with a default screen capture or do I need to download one of the apps to do this. I know some androids are starting to come with this feature default finally such as the S3.
Also can anyone give me a reason as to why screen captures have not been implemented by Google. Legal issues with apple? No reason?
Thanks all
Press power and volume down together.

That button combo (pwr + vol-down) doesn't work for me while the desktop is showing, but it works with an app in the foreground. Even works in the INFO screen.
Thanks guy helped me plenty! Just didn't hold down the buttons down long enough
I can take a screenshot anywhere, just have to hold both buttons for a couple seconds. Even works on the lock screen!
Ya u gotta hold it til it takes the shot

You can always go to power menu and screenshot from there though it's really "clunky" (my vocabulary sucks)

Settings-system-power menu. From there you can enable screenshots from long pressing the power button and tapping screenshot.

the proper way to do it is to hold down the power and the up volume, or down, idk, and it will take a screenshot, it has to be pretty good timing though or youll turn your volume up or turn off the screen.

Can't take a screen shot?

Hey everyone, I'm a long time iPhone user/dev who has just bought a Nexus 4. Now I know this sounds very noob, but for some reason I have never been able to take a screen shot, using Volume down + Power button combination. I am rooted but running stock JOP40D, and I have had this issue ever since I first turned the phone on. Searched the forums and Google and couldn't find anything nor could I find any type of setting or toggle. Any help would be appreciated. Please be kind!

are you holding the buttons down long enough?
I believe so. Holding for 5+ seconds with no response. Haven't messed with any system files so this seems very odd.

Shouldn't need to really hold down at all. If you get the combo right it's pretty much instant.
When you try does anything happen? Does the volume decrease or the screen shut off? If so your timing is out.
No there isn't any reaction. I can put volume down, I can lock screen, but when pressed at the same time nothing happens. Might need to do a factory reset, although it was doing this on first boot so it's unlikely to help

Power button problem?

Hi guys, I think something is wrong with my Nexus 4 power button. It usually took me many attempts to lock or unlock my device. Sometimes it recognizes my pressing as twice even I only press it once.
Is my button wearing? Anything I can do to resolve this beside a RMA?

Use one of those slide to unlock apps that you don't even need to touch the power button ,there's much talk of them around the nexus 4 thread .
EDIT: its called Touch Control

Go for Rma... or else use touch control.. Unlocking using volume button is another option...

I don't have a Nexus 4 to test with, but I believe this should work for yah... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771307 :good:
Note: You may want to make a backup first, just in case.
Yes, that link works perfect. I also have a flashable stock that the person made for me. I told him to upload it but he never did just in case anyone wants it. I have it on my laptop though, let me if you want that too..
