hi
i have a green lens defy.
i have already little experience on flashing cyanogen mod 7 and mod 9 and mod 10.
previously i have rooted stock, installed 2ndint and flashed cm7 over the stock like this..
bootmenu>recovery>custom recovery> factory reset>install zip>wipe cache>wipe dalvik cache>reboot.
i did not take the "backup all"(what u call it as NANDROID backup, isn't it?) of stock rom....ooops.
i did the same procedure to install cm9 and cm10..but this time i took backup of cm7 during cm9 installation and cm9 during cm10 intallation.
i did this all in custom recovery only.
In the bootmenu there were other options called stock recovery and stable recovery along with custom recovery.
and within custom recovery there was motorola recovery in advanced option.. But non of them brought the stock rom back on my device.
always shows exclamation in triangle and a androbot.
So i have finally tried the RSDlite and flashed my stock sbf.
AND NOW i am again on my way to install cm10 for defy. and this time with no mistakes....Please help me to do this.
0.why are the options stock recovery and motorola recovery not working....?what are they actually..when to enter/click that recoveries??
1.How do i take backup of stock so that i can go back at anytime?
2.is backing up stock rom also done through custom recovery and backup all? if that so then why are stock recovery and stable recovery and motorola recovery options present there?
3.did i install correctly first time?
Thanks for all your answers,

Yes, you are very confused! :silly: You know, when you install a custom rom it totally replaces your stock rom. The stock recovery is not there to recover your stock rom/restore it (where would it restore it from?? I'll have to disappoint you, but your phone is not magic!). The stock recovery can only wipe user data and install updates by Motorola onto an already existing system! You will never be able to restore your system to its original state if you don't have a backup or some idea what retail version you were on. But you'll definitely find a similar sbf over at droid developers or Walter's sbf thread.
When you see the exclamation mark with the cute green guy, you have to press vol+ and vol- together to reveal the stock recovery.
Motorola recovery = stock recovery = the recovery made by Motorola. You can acces it buy pressing vol- while powering up, through bootmenu>recovery>stock/motorola recovery or bootmenu>recovery>custom/stable recovery>advanced>motorola recovery

Hi.
I have a defy plus .2.3.6 rooted with 2ndinit recovery.
every ROM I've tried to flash makes the phone stuck in bootloader menu, so i had to flash SBF again.
am i do something wrong? I've flashed a lot of roms on defy mb525, and everything worked fine.
thanks and sorry for my terrible english.
Sow now you are stuck in bootloop or you can not flash a custom rom?
I just flash SBF and go back to stock rom.
try wiping data in stock recovery .
(if you access it)
No access to recovery. boot right to the bootloader.
Reply!
Firstly is your defy rooted? If yes, install 2ndint and go to recovery by switching off your phone and press volume+ and power on button.
The problem you are facing is because you are not clearing cache before flashing a custom rom. Happened to me once so i know! Follow this procedure to the line and you should be fine!

Hmmmmm
What bootloader you have? I think... v7
Teoretically you can use any 2.3.6 ROM
Yup, V7.
The only rom I was able to install it is CM9.
I'd tried this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667536 with the same results.
Hi,
I had ICS 4.0.4 working, but i uninstalled the ROM via 2init v2.0 application and rebooted the phone. Now i am in Boot loop, is there a way to boot ICS 4.0.4 again?
Bootloader version is 0.9
If i boot the phone and press vol down button once blue light appears, i can see Boot Menu, Tools, Recovery etc. Can i do anything to boot existing ICS again. I have nandroid backup of stock froyo rom, Can i restore it?
Thanks
Roshan
install ICS again, next time make a nandroid backup as soon as you have the rom set up right and options and apps as you like.. . Will save time if anything goes wrong in future!

In this thread I got a great answer about how to fix a sizing problem with the data partition on my Razr M. You'll need this if you are running CMod, are encrypting, reformat your data partition with TWRP, and want to re-encrypt after the reformat.
There is only one silly problem. I am running CM 10.1, which is 4.2.2. I am also running TWRP 2.6. I can change versions of TWRP as easy as anything, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to return to stock recovery. I really do not want to RSD, since Motorola has been working on how to relock the bootloader, and I don't want to give them that chance. And, of course, if I do RSD back to 4.2.2 stock, I'll have no way to get root back.
What I'd love to do is just to get the 4.2.2 stock recovery image, and flash it with fastboot. But I cannot for the life of me find the 4.2.2 stock recovery image. I have Matt's 4.1.2 stock recovery image, and I actually tried it with his utility, but...yeah. Android with exclamation point. It did not end well.
So, here's the question: is there any way to flash the 4.2.2 stock recovery without RSDing back to stock? Where is that darn disc image?
Thanks!

In my goodies. Stock recov & a prerooted restore method!
Many thanks for the stock recovery. I installed it using Minimal Fastboot and ADB,
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
When I reboot into recovery, I get the green dead android. I re-flashed TWRP 2.6, no problem. What's the catch here?
The only thing I can think of: I did not flash the .zip file from TWRP, but extracted it, got the disc image, and then installed it through Minimal Fastboot and ADB. Is that going to make any difference?
Thanks!

Normally when you boot into stock recovery , you wont be presented with a nice menu. It's almost a hidden menu that you have to pull up...
When you go in and get the Triangle or whatever is there, you will have to press volume + and - and power button to get the menu to display.
Try a few combinations, volume + and - then power, or power then + and -, or all three at the same time. Eventually it will come up.

I was going to offer the xt897 stock recovery. It glides into action & has apply from cache. In goodies also.
Hey all,
I was planning to upgrade the Defy + from CM10 to CM11. I saw on the thread that I needed the newest TWRP recovery. I downloaded the zip file and tried flashing it. I also rebooted.
Now, when I am in 2ndint boot and choose recovery, it's just a blank screen and it restarts into CM10.
Is there any way to get recovery back? Or will I have to simply restore the .SBF and start over again ?
Thanks
Hello guys.
I want to downgrade my defy+ from CM11 to stock android.
Before update the recovery and install CM11 i made a backup with CWM and now i want to restore this backup.
How can i do this? Can i install CWM using the kitkat on my phone?
Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm afraid of doing something wrong.

I have discovered that I need it too because my phone is loked and, to enter my carrier unlock code, i need to restore my backup made with CWM.
Looking for the same.
Yesterday i have installed 2ndInit to get back CWM recovery and restore my original stock ROM image.
Android can not complete the full boot, showing the intro of my carrier during a hour while loading Android.
Reinstalled TWRP and recovered my CM11 backup.
I will try again and, if not suceded, i will flash my carrier SBF to unlock my phone.
I will inform any news about CWM restore stock ROM.

I think this happens because the roms use different file systems
Try the Aroma Wiper to change the file system:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202674
I'll try this, but now i'm without time, then i report if it work.
I got my phone working.

About revert to stock ROM, only doing a factory reset to format my data partition fix the boot (I did not try AROMA or safewipe.zip).
I do not tried to restore data from my stock dump after got my phone working because it was not my objective, but i think that it is possible and simple after get it working.
Thanks.
