[Q] Jellybean on Defy (Need to wipe data?) - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
At first I'm new here and from germany, so don't be mad for my english.
I have CM9 running on my Defy and want to upgrade to CM10 Jelly Bean-Defy Builds by quarx or Epsylon3.
In no case I wan't to lose my messages on the phone and all the other things.
Do I need to do a full data wipe, installing CM10?
And does anyone have got a link for Jellybean Gapps without a torrent in it? In Quarx CM10 Thread only is a torrent link.
Thanks!

I went from latest quarx cm9 to cm10 today without wiping. The phone did the application optimising before completing boot and I still had all my apps. I'm not sure I'd recommend it though. Some of my system settings weren't properly set after upgrading.

You can use this app to backup your messages and restore them later:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore (add http:/)

I went from ICS to JB without wiping data, just cache and Dalvik-cache. It worked, in the sense that the phone booted and seemed to work, but after using it for a day I found it got really slow; applications were taking a long time to launch, and some stopped responding completely.
I saved my messages and performed a full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik-cache) and then flashed JB and Gapps again. This time, the phone ran much faster and after 2 days it hasn't had any slowdowns.
So, you can _try_ to upgrade without wiping, you won't lose data and the phone will be useable, but I strongly recommend doing a full wipe.

Thank you, guys!
I think I'll give it a try.
What about the GApps? Do anyone have a link for that?

i have installed it over cm9(wipe cache only)..its works really good at moment.

I don't really know if I want to try it... :/

Yesterday after several attempts, had to do a full data wipe... It was bootlooping. Now works pretty well!

Yesterday I flased CM10 (25/07) and I only do a wipe chace and clear devilk cache before flash CM10 and then gapps for Jelly Bean. You can find gapps for Jelly Bean here goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip

One of my friends also has got a Defy running CM9-ICS now and he will try it for me if I have to wipe.
My Question is answered. Ummm don't know if necessary, but thread close is ok
Thx Guys!

So I thought it didn't worked and started normally meanwhile checked the settings and came to know its 4.1.1
Can anyone please tell me the difference between ICS n jb except settings....like in ui or something...

The App-Startup animation is different from ICS. When you take a picture it slides to the side after taking it. In Gallery the Images are now seemed to be stacked, like the page changing animation in App Drawer. The Statusbar is different and many other changes... Like the menu guidance and so on.

[Q] Synergy RC2 to RLS1 update

Noob question here, I think it's a "no", but I want to ask anyway. I'm running Synergy RC2 as of early last week (LOVE IT btw..omg, gives me orgasms =P), and then they released RLS1 on the 5th. Phone is working perfectly fine, and I don't REALLY want to reset everything (text messages, programs, etc)...so is there a way to just upgrade from RC2 to the RLS1, or do I need to flash the new version and start over?
Thanks for the help community!
Make a nandroid, after that's done wipe cache/dalvik and flash RLS1. For some a minimal cache wipe works just fine. If you start to experience problems you will infraction need to do a full wipe or just restore your nand backup. Only way to really know is to try it.
There have been some instances where I only did the minimal and it worked perfectly fine, other times I had to do a full wipe. I went from rc1 to rls1 with a minimal wipe and it's been running without a hitch!

From Cm 7.1 Rc1 to nightly 177

Hello Together,
im considering to change from CM 7.1 Rc1 to the latest nightly #177. I have two questions about that.
1. Is it worth to change regarding to the performance? ( ive found no bugs on 7.1 that are annoying me, so the only reason for a change would be a performance enhancement)
2. Is there a way to Update so that there is no need to install all apps again? (i'm not sure if i can just install that over the old version)
Thx in Advance
1: Yes, definitely
2: Just install over RC without wiping anything. Everything will remain intact.

He means Cm7 Rc1
my status bar was gone after i upgrade 177 from RC1.
but it is fine after a factory data reset,
however,all my data have gone.
I have restore my data through nandroid and titinium restore but it doesnot solve the status bar problem.
Screwed up,back to RC1,the most stable room

[Q] looking for a better version of CM7 [currently on 7.1 stable]

Hey fellas, its been a long time since i have been on 7.1 stable, and was wondering if i should upgrade to one of the newer nightlies..can anybody tell me which of the latest nightlies is better than CM7.1 stable and i should flash??i have a green lens defy and i want the camera to be working..a link to the nightly will be appreciated..thanks
hey dude i would recommend download.cyanogenmod.com/get/cm_jordan_full-63.zip its the latest nightly and i'v been using it for long time now on my greenlens defy and its actually very stable too good luck
press thanks lol
original link http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=umts_jordan
Mine works beautifully with the CM7.2 12-04 nightly, also green lens. Very fast.
lately been playing with ICS, but keep going back and forth (just wipe, install CM7/9 kernel, restore nandroid) because currently camera and a few other things not yet ready on ICS
Look here:
so all i need to do is wipe cache and delvik, flash the nightly and wipe cache and delvik again, right??

why do we have to wipe data? wont i lose everything? when i upgraded from RC1.5 to 7.1, i didnt wipe data..
I'm not really sure why but it didn't work for me , but if you want you can try without wiping , or try to search xda for any thread about that gl.

okay i flashed the nightly u recommended...did it the way i normally do [wiped cache and delvik]..but i am facing an issue with it...the 2g mobile data [mobile internet] was working when i initially flash this update, but later it stopped working..wifi is working but 2g internet isnt..rebooted my handset quite a few times but didnt help me in any way..any idea what i can do..
Yea I had this problem too , try defy base band switcher which comes with rom already and chose which network suites you and try re-check the apn if they are correct, enable data background , if they did work at the first time so it must work again GL .

[Q] Need better rom and help with supercharging. required in room - 720p, stable.

right now i'm using the quarx nightly for my defy+. my problem with it is that it doesnt seem to be very stable. lots of errors that ask me if i want to wait or force stop, lots of launcher redraws (thats why i want the supercharger thing working). I was very excited to install JB/ICS and experiencing the holo UI, but i dont really need it. i actually miss Go launcher, and probably will use it with what ever ROM i decide to flash next.
some details - got latest quarx nighly, JB, on my MB526. find it somewhat buggy.

Try fixing permissions.
Im going to assume you wiped data and didn't restore app data using titanium backup.

I wiped data, don't know what is the app data you're talking about, and as I didn't used the previous ROM in it's rooted era (it was rooted for mere minutes before I installed quarx), didn't have use for titanium backup at all.
About permissions, em, what permissions? of? what do I change about them? how? is there a ROM that comes with that to begin with? I used quarx for little more than 2 days, I really prefer just installing better ROM, if such thing exists (I get the impression quarx is quite popular).
Use CM7.2 maniac nightlys and install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990921.
Looks great and the rom is very fast and stable
Link for the Rom: https://github.com/maniac103/android_device_motorola_jordan-common/downloads
(Use cm-7-20121107-UNOFFICIAL-jordan-signed.zip for normal defy and jordan plus for defy +)
You should know how to flash a froyo sbf because downgrading from CM10 to CM7 is very buggy.
Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thread closed.

[Q] Google search crashing on paranoid ROM

I wanted to post this in the paranoid android forum, but I'm not allowed to since I don't have 10 posts.
Google search is crashing on me, I had the Alpha two version, and I've re-flashed the previous nightly. Still not working. I wiped the cache for the app, still no help.
Wasn't an issue with cm10
Any suggestions?
Reinstall gapps in recovery.

Don't know why I didn't try that... I just assumed that with a fresh install with factory wipe, wouldn't have to.
All good now.

Whenever you flash an AOSP ROM, you always have to flash the Gapps as well.
