[Q] Google search crashing on paranoid ROM - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to post this in the paranoid android forum, but I'm not allowed to since I don't have 10 posts.
Google search is crashing on me, I had the Alpha two version, and I've re-flashed the previous nightly. Still not working. I wiped the cache for the app, still no help.
Wasn't an issue with cm10
Any suggestions?

Reinstall gapps in recovery.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app

Don't know why I didn't try that... I just assumed that with a fresh install with factory wipe, wouldn't have to.
All good now.

Whenever you flash an AOSP ROM, you always have to flash the Gapps as well.

Market Place missing after hacksung's 6.1 Build?

Market Place Icon is missing.
Followed exzacklyright's hacksungs ICS 6.1 build instructions to the bone. Didn't miss anything. As this is my first smartphone i was double sure not to. Can't post the link yet as i don't have 8 posts. If you need it i'll pm it to you or a google search should pull it up.
Am i missing something? Is there a way to just download the marketplace app? Thanks for any and all help.
Found this file "Market3027-signed.zip". I got into CWM, i installed the zip, tried to reboot, but i keep getting sent back into CWM or boot loop i guess u could call it. Going to start from scratch and install it right along with gapps7.1 like in the instructions. Hopefully that works.
Hacksung build 6.1 actually has quite a few bugs, I would recommend build 6

gapps7.1 is the correct gapps for build 6.0. I also would recommend it, 6.1 introduces bugs
If you do decide to go with build 6 and your mms doesn't work, then give me a hollar and I will tell you how to get it working. Other than that every feature works fabulous and very smooth

Actually I'm running 6.1 right now for 3 days now and no bugs at all. Using cm9 stock kernel and ec09 modem.6.1 fixed mms for me, the only build that has it working. What bugs are you guys having?

At first flash of 6.0, I could not send or receive pics. Then I noticed after attached pic, I could toggle GPS ( no idea why ) and the pic would send. I wiped dalvik and cache then fixed permissions and now , 2nd day all works flawless. Also had the "flickering" WIFI but now that to has cleared up.

So your running build 6 and it's running smooth? Mms working? If not download set dns from the market, then choose "custom" and leave dns1 as 8.8.8.8 and dns2 66.174.92.214

On 6.1 i had, after my phone went to sleep i would have to toggle airplane mode in order to get 3g or wifi working.
Hm, strange since 6.1 + glitch v14 B3 is working great for me, wifi and everything.
Sounds like the OP forgot to flash gapps. I did notice even just upgrading from 6 > 6.1 (without data wipe) I had to reflash gapps. Figured they would still be there since I didn't wipe data but apparently not.

6.0 has google apps included by default. Taken from the rootzwiki page:

I have to agree with K_nivesout. I had to reflash Gapps 7.1 when I moved from 6 to 6.1. Not sure if this is the norm YMMV.

Um hello? didn't you read my post? the rootwiki post clearly states "GAPPS NOT INCLUDED!"
I just figured that since I didn't wipe data, my google apps might still be there. There was never a question of whether or not they were included with 6.1, chill out man.

same here with 6.1 and glitch v14... whenever you flash a rom the gapps apk's are replaced with the current rom you flashed.

Lol I just figured that since I just told you gapps wasn't included, that you wouldn't wonder why they disappeared
When I was using CM7, I wouldn't have to re-flash gapps after updating the rom (unless data was wiped of course). By your logic, since they weren't included in the rom zips that I flashed, I would've had to re-flash gapps (which I didn't). What's the explanation for this?
Well apparently, cyanogenmod changed something. Or teamhacksung did maybe

The explanation is its not CM7, so it may have different issues. Whatever its just 1 min more of flashing... No big deal

Flashing Gaap's Succesful but no changes - CM9 0.2 beta

I've succesfully flashed cm9 0.2 beta (from jokersax's site) and everything is working fine. However, after flashing the gaap's there is no change. I am not able to get the android marketplace app or any of the google app's in the package.
my CWM gives no errors and it says the package installs properly.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very greatful!
has anyone had an issue similar to this?
version 10? Did you install AFTER you flashed the Rom?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I've tried both v10 and v9. - and yes I flash them after already installing the rom. I've followed the procedure properly but nothing's showing up.
Have you tried re-downloading the gapps zip and flashing again? Try doing a system wipe, wipe all of your caches and whatnot, then re-flash 0.2 beta and gapps v10. My atrix has flashed everything properly, but then again this is still in beta so there's going to be problems somewhere.
I've literally done exactly that 3-4 times and it doesn't work. The rom installs perfectly but there are no google apps in it when I'm booted in.
these are my steps
- boot into recovery, perform wipe, including cache
- install 0.2 cm9
- flash gaaps v10 in the same way as 0.2 cm9
- turn on phone
the os is great but there is no market or any google apps. I was hoping to get face unlock going ><
Wipe dalvik too.

Oh OK my bad. This has never happened to me. Gapps always includes atleast the market. Maybe try another cm9?
I've trued turl's aswell using his gaap's and it still doesn't work.
Geez. The only things I can suggest is a fasboot wipe or PM Turl or joker.
That's really odd.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
how do I perform a fastboot wipe? Also, is there a way to force app installation in fastboot?

What version of CWM are you using? If you're not using the latest, GAPPS may say it installs ok but will not actually install. I believe the latest is 5.0.2.7 or 5.8.1.8 if you're using Touch. Others have reported this same problem and updating worked for them.
Yea... that is quite odd. I've installed i believe at least 2 or 3 different versions of Joker's CM9, along with the Gapps kit, and have always gotten at least the Market, which is the general requirement for just about EVERYTHING.

Easiest thing to do would be to probably install Rom Manager and then update CWM through it.

Install Jelly Bean 4.2 Keyboard from the market and use that one instead
I can't download from the market on account of I don't have a working keyboard. ill try downloading the apk.
there must be something wrong with gapps. it runs fine before installing gapps. after installing gapps i installed the keyboard but the rom is very unresponsive, the account setup kept glitching, couldnt get the market to connect to the internet, and the home button doesnt work. whats going on? would someone mind sending me a backup that is working and already has gapps installed or point me in the direction where i can find that.
Maybe you flashed wrong GAPPS package?

I've tried a couple and the same thing happens. The one I've been using is gapps-jb-20121212.zip. I'll try again.
I'm downloading the one off of cyanogenmod website under nexus 7 grouper. I'm pretty sure I don't have the gsm version but I'll check.

What's the deal with cm development on this tablet. I even just tried to download the play store apk and it force closes.
Idk I am pretty dissapointed because I've always loved the CM ROMs but thats what XDA is for.

I'm having the same difficulty with CM 10 on a Sony Xperia Arc. Have tried multiple kernels (included with CM Roms, or not) and Gapps packages. If it is possible to load a stock or other keyboard after flashing a ROM, I'd like to hear about this.

N4 Btldr Unlck & Rooted Trying to Install Gapps

Hey Guys,
So I'm learning a lot and still have way more to learn. I rooted and flashed my N4 to the most current stable build of CM 10.1. I am trying to install gapps so I can possibly download some apps back on to my phone. Can anyone help me with this? Also, am I able to link my google account with CM 10.1 or no? No kernel has been flashed. All I have done so far is what I stated in the second sentence. Your kind words of experience is much appreciated.
Thx
stoned_pirate
You have to flash ROM then gapps and reboot. Any other apps your missing you can just download from the play store
From my BLACKED OUT N4
You can get the Gapps here: http://goo.im/gapps
Just flash the ROM then the Gapps and reboot. You're good to go. You don't need to flash a separate kernel if you don't want. You can run the stock CM kernel for a bit to see how you like it, then try some others to compare performance and battery. When you do, just flash the kernel zip and clear cache and dalvik cache only, then reboot.

DirecTV Tablet App on Custom ROM - Reboots

I've tried the DirecTV tablet app on multiple 4.2.2, 4.3 and 4.3.1 custom Roms (CM, AOKP, Omni) and it keeps rebooting my tablet. The app will start and I input my credentials but after about 5 seconds I get a reboot. The tablet will keep rebooting over and over so I have to go to recovery and flash a nandroid.
On stock 4.3.1 the app works fine. Is anyone using the app on a custom ROM? I wasn't able to find any posts about the issue here or other forums.
I have also used both CWM and TRWP to flash each of the Roms with the same result.

My app version is 1.2.3 if it helps.

Ditto, I get the react same results as you, running ParanoidAndroid 3.99 rc2.
In reading your post I realized I had the stock phone app installed on my Nexus 10. The second poster said he was running the Tablet version without issue. So I uninstalled the Phone app and d/l'ed the Tablet version. I got the exact same result as you. It'd run for about 5 seconds and reboot the tablet. I also had to restore a Nandroid.
I just updated TWRP to the latest, so maybe that'll fix it. In the mean time anyone got other thoughts?

I Installed the latest Carbon nightly and the app works fine, no rebooting. CM and the others I tried must have commits that cause the issues and Carbon must not have them. Strange.
Guess its Carbon for me for awhile!

I use the DirecTV tablet almost daily on mrRobinson AOKP rom.
It would cause reboot loops on any version of CM 10.2 just a you describe.
The other day I tried Trinity kernel with CM nightly after a clean install and before starting DirecTV app. it appears that the kernel was at fault. The DirecTV app now works well.
