Hey everyone, this is a petition to get HTC to give us Ice Cream Sandwich. As people have seen, HTC released this statement
After extensive testing, we’ve determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.

Now as anyone on XDA we know this is not true. This is really getting alot of us mad, and I thought it is about time we do something as a community. Now, the HTC Desire was suppose to get Gingerbread, but ended up not being able to handle Gingerbread with Sense on top of it, so because of that and the efforts of the community, HTC released an RUU on the HTCDev.com website for a pure Ginerbread update. Now if HTC is not going to bring an update for our phone, they can at lest bring a ICS RUU then. It at lest gives us Devs offical libs and kernel.
Now please people, can you please sign this petition, we need to show HTC that we care about this phone, and we want this update.

Just a note, if someone thinks i should change the way i worded it, send me a PM and we will make it happen
If you like this petition, hit the Newsworthy Thread? Button, also remember to hit the thanks
Also, this is just some of the other phones it will benefit, PM me if you know it will help more

Update #1
27 July 2012: Further Explanation about HTC Desire HD Update
We’ve heard your feedback on our decision not to update the HTC
Desire HD to Android 4.0. We completely understand that this is a
controversial decision.
For more background, due to how storage on the HTC Desire HD is
partitioned – and the larger size of Android 4.0 – it would require
re-partitioning device storage and overwriting user data in order to
install this update. While technically advanced users might find this
solution acceptable, the majority of customers would not. We also
considered ways to reduce the overall size of the software package, but
this would impact features and functionality that customers are
currently using. Even after installing the update, there were other
technical limitations which we felt negatively impacted the user
experience.
We believe an update should always improve the user experience and
carefully evaluate each update based on this criteria. While we are very
aware of the disappointment from this decision, we believe the impact
to user experience was too great. We recognize this is a change from our
previous statement and for that we’re truly sorry.

Now Part of this is true, as we did need to system link stuff for a ICS Sense 4 rom that I am developing, but the fact still remains, they can always release a pure version of Android for developers on HTCDev or the version that hey repartitions everything. They said they want to help developers with that site, well they they need to help us. I am going to be trying to contact HTC at the start of the week, and see if the corporate office will pick up, or call me back.
Update #2
Well I have managed to get in touch with HTC. I was talking to a member of the escalations team and he understood what this petition was all about, and kinda knew a little about rooting and everything, he had his rooted. So after talking to him, he said he would make a few phone calls and talk to some people higher up plus talk to his friend in corporate tech support (idk what he does, but something higher), well I have gotten another call from him saying that the higher up people are gathering information for all the sides, and then will we contacting me soon. He does not know a time frame right now, but we will be talking again soon.
With all the emails, calls and this, they got the point that they need to do something, and all of this is because of XDA community. We have had it on twitter, other threads and other devs from other phones helping. I can not believe the support. All we need to do now is get this on sites like Engadget, CNet, or other sites like that, that has hundreds of readers everyday

Why do I want the 2.1 Market Fix?
Evening,
What benefits do I gain from getting the 2.1 marketplace fix?
New apps? Better Apps? MORE APPS?!?!!!
I feel as though I should be in eager anticipation of it but I've no clue why?
Post it in the right spot, and I will answer.
From my understanding, The market fix is for users OUT of the USA. It enables them to see all the apps, instead of a limited amount.
Isn't it nice to just get an answer to your question
I guess some people dont mind being on their high horses. Like seriously, its a forum. Get over it.
Next time, just try and post in the right section. Then people wont be so snarky towards you.

Why do you have a holier than thou attitude? I understand you've been mistreated on these forums but you don't need to mistreat those who have done nothing wrong. You do a lot of great work and most people appreciate it even if they can't express it well, this has nothing to do with your dev work, which is excellent. You just come off looking like an asshole when you post things like that. You could have easily answered his question but chose to be condescending. It only makes the situation worse. You can yell at people for not searching or not posting in the right spot all you want but you need to realize that a lot of the people who come here are visiting for the first time and haven't seen all of your complaints of mistakes that almost every newbie makes. Sorry if I offended you somehow, just my views.

A) Wrong market patch is a project I have been working on, has nothing to do with being outside the US. Isn't it nice getting an incorrect answer. It enables a full market on these custom roms, allows you to switch between device specific markets, and maybe some surprises.
B) Forum is flooded, and if people read the rules they would know where to post stuff.
Isn't nice getting the wrong answer from someone who doesn't know what they are speaking of?

Hello Guys,
My name is John, I recently became the social media analyst at Samsung mobile. I wanted to start opening the lines of communication between XDA and Samsung. First I wanted to say I have noticed your work on our devices on the XDA forums. I think you guys do an outstanding job, I myself am a developer for mobile devices. So let’s get down to business, we’re going to be in Austin from March 10-15 for the SXSW(south by southwest http://sxsw.com/convention). I was wondering if any of you guys are going so that we could meet up and share a couple of ideas I have. I am looking forward to meeting some of you GREAT developers!

John Imah, please prove to us that you are really who you say you are and that you are not here for malicious reasons. then maybe people might believe you. I am very skeptical of anyone at samsung. They have yet to treat us right. (bad source and all)
As a show of good faith and so we know you are really who you say you are, how about a link to the complete source code for the EB01 kernel?
John, if you're for real, please tell Samsung to stop using the ridiculously inferior RFS filesystem. Why they would waste time developing a proprietary filesystem when better standard ones are available is beyond me. Also, the sound and color fixes shouldn't have been standard too. Our devs are awesome, but the fact remains that there shouldn't be a need for Voodoo in the first place.

either he is legit or a very brave soul to come here ....he must know about all the animosity that people have for samsung here....
While the fact that the decidedly less-than-professional self-in-mirror shot and the Star Wars background made me a little skeptical at first, some quick digging shows the Twitter account @SamsungJohn, at least, appears to be legit.
I say that because it's been mentioned in tweets by the Twitter Verified account @SamsungService ("#FF @GalaxySsupport @SamsungMobileUS @Samsungtweets @SamsungEsteban @SamsungCarla @SamsungCos @SamsungOmar @SamsungJohn"), as well as @GalaxySSupport and other Samsung employees like @SamsungCarla ("A special #FF to the newest #SamsungSupport team member: @SamsungJohn. Also, his full name is John Imah, according to the Twitter account.

On another note... gosh, I wish I could say the negative reaction to what definitely appears to be a real (and new!) Samsung employee's appearance here is unexpected, but it's not.
But it's also incredibly disappointing to see and I think represents much of what's wrong with the XDA community.
YES: Samsung has sucked at reaching out to consumers and has thus far been less-than-supportive of their devices.
BUT: Here they are, by all appearances trying to change that, and people just want to spit in their faces? Wouldn't it be more constructive to at the least hear them out, if not try to work with them?
I mean, I haven't seen any other phone company -- not Motorola, not HTC, not LG -- reach out to developers and actually want to share ideas.
So I am, for one, very glad that Samsung might actually be trying to change how phone companies interact with developers -- and is maybe even viewing devs as the potentially valuable resource they are, rather than the enemy.

Lucky you. Captivate owner here who wandered by accidentally, so DJ05 isn't my answer. I've tried every official and unofficial fix/hack with little success. I can now even get a stationary fix indoors in <10s with an XDA fix but can't track worth a darn in a moving vehicle for more than 30 sec at a time, making the GPS useless. And even that was an enormous improvement over stock and after applying the fatally flawed Samsung fix(es). Successive calls and emails to carrier, manufacturer and retailer yielded nothing but a vague assurance from Samsung that a pending (but timeline not specified) update would fix it.
Also, some froyo kernel source would be much appreciated

If you want more information on this topic please visit the new, redone, 'We Need Your Support' thread at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1427969
We have gotten no news of any kind of update for our Samsung Vibrants. No Gingerbread update, not even a small 2.2.1 update, and I honestly believe that's just plain wrong. This has nothing to do with this phone being too slow or too old to run Gingerbread, heck.. it can even run Ice Cream Sandwich. And before you stop reading, no.. this isn't one of those threads that is just posted to complain, we have to do something about this. Maybe some people don't care for an update, maybe some don't understand what an actual OFFICIAL update could do for us users and devs. The lack of support for this device from both T-Mobile and Samsung has been horrible. Ask a representative from T-Mobile about an update, they'll say; Oh, It's coming.. Samsung is working on it. Ask a representative from Samsung about an update, they'll say; It's being worked on.. no ETA. So now, either both of the companies are clueless of their own product, and honestly don't know what is going on, or they just won't give us a straight.. 'No, you won't be getting an update.' which I think is dumb. I got hooked on Android because of it's openness, the support and the community. One of the only major updates that we got was through KIES, it wasn't even OTA. Maybe most of you don't care, but T-Mobile and Samsung should do right by us. I don't care about getting the latest and the greatest, I honestly would respect both Samsung and T-Mobile more if they gave us a straight answer.
So, what I'm asking is.. please help us by signing this petition and spreading the link wherever you can, because we have the power to fight this, we have the numbers and we can do it. This phone isn't super old, it's one of the best phones I've owned. Samsung did a great job with it, but that gives them no reason to stop supporting it. I got this on a two year contract, they should atleast support it for two years, and simply because it's in the Android spirit.
Link here: http://www.change.org/petitions/bri...-s-varients-samsungt-mobile-give-us-an-update
Please feel free to spread it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, anywhere you see fit! If we get some headline news on Android blogs and sites, that'd be great, too!
Samsung and T-Mobile, we need an answer.
Will be signing this petition in the morning.
signed, guys common we need ALL of the vibrant members to do this.
Why do they need our address...I'll sign, but I'm worried about that only.

just put something random down thats nearby.
I agree, but use US adresses. This phone US only.
I think we should write about the situation in each posts in all official T-mobile Facebook, Google+, .... pages.
People need to know about T-mobile poor support and poor attitude to customers.

Some i9000 users have helped us out.
But like I said, keep posting, tweeting it, sharing it.
It's our turn to get something.
Great idea! I hope this will make a difference.
Signed. Really hoping we get somewhere, but won't be putting any money on it
signed and sent the link to galaxy s twitter account..they should also know what is going on
Just signed it. Also, someone should contact neobuddy89 and ask him put a link to this petition in his ICS Passion v9.1 ROM thread. If that were done then this petition will gain a lot more recognition from the community because so many people visit that thread daily.

So that the petition system is not abused maybe?
Fake addresses that do not match the name may harm our chances.

Flipboard for Android, set to be a temporary exclusive for Samsung's Galaxy S III, isn't yet available through any official means. But users who installed a build of the app that was unceremoniously ripped from Samsung's upcoming handset are today receiving notification of an available update, from none other than Flipboard itself. Version 1.8.4 is now appearing as an in-app over-the-air upgrade, with release notes indicating that it addresses a startup crash on an unspecified "older version of Android." Reports of successful installations are mixed however, with some users saying the update goes through without a hitch, and others being met with errors.
The update doesn't necessarily indicate that Flipboard is endorsing the leaked build of its app, but it would seem the company is already looking ahead to the day Samsung's exclusivity window wraps up.

Hmm it's ok I guess. Might just an unfinish app atm because I can't zoom in on some articles to read them or could be that the site hosting the story aren't setup for flipboard yet. I see no offline syncing and I can't pick what site I want my news from. Really this is what iOS user claim is better then Google current?

Flipboard first launched for iOS devices and Android users have been hoping it’d launch for their beloved platform as well ever since. Yet it was only at the Samsung Galaxy S III announcement event last week that we finally got confirmation that droids will be having a piece of Flipboard action.
But i managed to extract it from the device and made it available to everyone right now. And don’t worry, it’s not malware. If you do install Flipboard on your droid, do not hesitate to share your impressions of it with the rest of us in the comments section below.

No offences but extraction of the app by u didn't seem legit to me..
As u r from India and there are no traces of s3 as of yet in India..
Also this is from addictive tips
and here is the original thread..

Means u downloaded it from other site...m not in opposition of u sharing it..what i just meant is u wrote that u extracted it bt now u r only saying that u got it from that site..so this is not called as extraction from s3 by "you"
And where is the hard work in this..

Thats correct new flipboard 1.8.4 working so smooth than initial version for Android.
Is anyone having a problem with the flipping animation? When you flip up, the content in the page goes away until you get to the next article.

Not in favour of any fights, so stop it guys... amit just mention the source in first post from where you got the app and as now u have removed "u extracted it from s3", everything is resolved now...
But as a word for future reference "Even if u r not a developer, it isn't wise to claim others work as yours, Mentioning the source doesn't leaves your thread useless "
