I know these tweaks are available and nothing new. I wanted to share my experience. When I was using remICS, I exceeded 3hours of screen on time. But when I flashed CM9 or AOKP my screen time would always be around 2 and 20 minutes. My usage of the phone def plays a role, but for the most part, I have a set number of apps I use across all roms. So I looked at remICS build prop and added the "additional tweaks" to AOKP and CM9, and battery life was NOTICEABLE BETTER.
If anyone would like to test it out, add these at the end of your build.prop, reboot to recovery, and wipe caches.
For ICS/GB:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
pm.sleep_mode=1
debug.performance.tuning=1
debug.composition.type=hw
debug.sf.hw=1
persist.android.strictmode=0
persist.sys.use_dithering=1
persist.sys.ui.hw=true
persist.sys.purgeable_assets=1
ro.com.google.networklocation=0
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.config.nocheckin=1
ro.vold.umsdirtyratio=20
dalvik.vm.checkjni=false
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
video.accelerate.hw=1
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=240
profiler.force_disable_err_rpt=1
profiler.force_disable_ulog=1
For JB:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=0
pm.sleep_mode=1
persist.android.strictmode=0
persist.sys.purgeable_assets=1
ro.com.google.networklocation=0
ro.kernel.android.checkjni=0
ro.config.nocheckin=1
ro.vold.umsdirtyratio=20
dalvik.vm.checkjni=false
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
profiler.force_disable_err_rpt=1
profiler.force_disable_ulog=1
**There have been reports that on JB, these tweaks have increased battery drain, but it is unconfirmed. Try running stock JB rom for a couple days, then add these tweaks and see if they improve.
***Most report these work on ICS/GB very well!
Ooh ooh! I had those in my ROM!

Though some of those are unneeded for AOSP based ROMs.

And then I stole them. And added new ones.

Thanks, I kept going back to RemICS as well since it had better battery life compare to other ICS roms. I'm gonna try it out with CM9 RC2 and see if I get similar battery life.
Hey :waves like idiot:
I'm just a regular ol' "noob", who's happy to even flash CM9 (and recently RC2) this week, but that certainly doesn't mean I know much else. For example, I dutifully followed instructions to erase both my batteries' memories, only to find them die that much quicker (d'oh).
That said, where exactly do I go to enter these numbers and whatnot? And is this proven to help my stats?

Now before you freak out about having to SLIM ics roms, vibrant turk handed the portation of this rom off to me so he could focus on his rom. His thread will be deleted shortly.
People coming from his 2.6: there is no need to flash my 2.6 (unless you want to), but once i post an update, there will obviously be a reason
I only ported the rom. Krarvind is the actual dev of this rom.

The addon says 2.4, but hasn't changed since then, so it will still work.
IF you dont like how the display is all Zoomed-out, this is how you fix it.
1. Open your favorite root browser.
2. Go to /system
3. open Build.prop in text EDITOR
4. Look for the line "ro.sf.lcd_density=182"
5. Delete 182 and replace it with 240
6. Save the edited build.prop
7. Reboot
If you want to return to the same veiw that is zoomed-out. replace ro.sf.lcd_density=240 with ro.sf.lcd_density=182

I found this in Android Software and Hacking General selection (all credits to Lambgx02)
Lambgx02: "So, I was experiencing significant lag as we all do from time to time, and decided I was going to get to the bottom of it.
After tracing and debugging for hours, I discovered the source of 90% of Android's lag. In a word, entropy (or lack thereof).
Google's JVM, like Sun's, reads from /dev/random. For all random data. Yes, the /dev/random that uses a very limited entropy pool.
Random data is used for all kinds of stuff.. UUID generation, session keys, SSL.. when we run out of entropy, the process blocks. That manifests itself as lag. The process cannot continue until the kernel generates more high quality random data.
So, I cross-compiled rngd, and used it to feed /dev/urandom into /dev/random at 1 second intervals.
Result? I have never used an Android device this fast.
It is literally five times faster in many cases. Chrome, maps, and other heavy applications load in about 1/2 a second, and map tiles populate as fast as I can scroll. Task switching is instantaneous. You know how sometimes when you hit the home button, it takes 5-10 seconds for the home screen to repopulate? Yeah. Blocking on read of /dev/random. Problem solved. But don't take my word for it .. give it a shot!
Update!
I've built a very simple Android app that bundles the binary, and starts/stops the service (on boot if selected). I'll be adding more instrumentation, but for now, give it a shot! This APK does not modify /system in any way, so should be perfectly safe.
This is my first userspace Android app, so bear with me!
Note that this APK is actually compatible with all Android versions, and all (armel) devices. It's not at all specific to the Captivate Glide.
Caveats
There is a (theoretical) security risk, in that seeding /dev/random with /dev/urandom decreases the quality of the random data. In practice, the odds of this being cryptographically exploited are far lower than the odds of someone attacking the OS itself (a much simpler challenge).
This may adversely affect battery life, since it wakes every second. It does not hold a wakelock, so it shouldn't have a big impact, but let me know if you think it's causing problems. I can add a blocking read to the code so that it only executes while the screen is on. On the other hand, many of us attribute lag to lacking CPU power. Since this hack eliminates almost all lag, there is less of a need to overclock, potentially reducing battery consumption."
atomic339:
Download from here
Flash in recovery...it installs an init.d script to launch at boot, rngd and entropy_watch binaries amd also am extended menu by me....after flashing, just go into terminal and type:
-su (enter)
-seeder (enter)
(The apk from OP does not work for every phone, but this init.d method will work as long as your phone supports init.d...)
My opinion:
-my gallery pictures loading "instantly". wtf!
-browser loading faster
-Maps loading much faster
-settings menu scrolling smoothly.
Working great here

Everything I have seen indicates that the smoothness is coming from the CPU being held out of sleep. My "proof" is a user of the original Note saying it fixed his home button wake lag. That ONLY disappears when the phone ain't sleeping...
I don't think there are any major performance gains to be had from the ACTUAL fix, maybe as a side effect of holding the CPU up - but you can adjust the governor to do that.

That's a pretty ridiculous solution.
Create a symbolic link for /dev/random pointing to /dev/urandom. Done.
So, as some one earlier said, this is just keeping our phones awake all the time right?
If so, thats bad, isnt it ?

exactly. just trading battery life for less stutter. or in our case, just killing our own batteries since the gn2 has pretty much no stutter anyways.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36274506&postcount=1014
Hmmm so it is almost same as lowering cpu up threshold. Hmmm for low end phones ofc there will be performance boost for note 2 no difference while we have good software+hardware
so i test it my self and i don't see any difference :silly::silly:
edit : dose the app need init.d support ?? i'm testing with stock kernel :banghead:
I want this thread to contain all the repeatable ways to get rid of the lag on the G2. (the stuttering that affects the scrolling that can be seen in the launcher/other apps). For example, just open your text messaging and start scrolling through the conversation. Do this for 30 seconds and you will definitely notice the jerkiness)
Users are reporting that accessing the hidden menu and turning off thermal controls help.
A particular build.prop reportedly has the same function to turn off thermal controls for the verizon users that cannot access the hidden menu.
Users are also reporting that changing the governor helps with the stuttering.
Are there any users that can verify that the smoothness has improved? Whether with these methods or another?

Would it be possible to put this in the q and a section and put a ? At the end of the title? This looks like a thread for improving lag, not a request for tips to improve it.
None of these tips are revolutionary, but they do work. Here's some things I did to eliminate lag.
1. Installed clean rom (optional, but c'mon, just do it)
2. Installed Nova launcher
3. In Nova settings go to look & feel > scroll speed > choose stock.
4. In Nova settings go to look & feel > animation speed > choose stock
5. In phone settings go to lock screen. Change unlock animation to dewdrop.
Phone is buttery smooth now. Changing the Nova scroll and animation to stock made the most difference. And dewdrop has the least amount of lag of all the other animations. These steps seem simple, but they made a big difference for me.
I know what the TS wants to point out. The G2 is blazing fast, there's no doubt about it. But the current Firmware has some minor issues when it comes to scrolling smoothness. One reason could be that LG used outdated driver modules for this build. Optimizations could be the other reason. Either way, it'll improve with upcoming updates, especially when we get Android 4.3 .
I'm running AOSP right now, but maybe somebody with Stock ROM + Root could disable scrolling cache within the build.prop , that could do the trick.

I have added init.d support to my latest kernel sleekai4. Included is a script to zip-align apps on boot, and a script for longer battery life.
Kernel located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647119
On other devices, if you have init.d support, my script should work for you too!
See second post in my kernel thread for details.
You will need busybox installed.
You will need root.
You will need SuperSU root enabled at boot for my script to work.
This just keeps getting better!

Yes. You can check the values by following the paths that are within the script. Example /sys/device/system/ setting, where "setting" is the value you want to check.
You may also use an app like trickster mod to see what your current CPU frequencies are.

They are both in zip files already, but not together. You could do that on your own computer though! Unzip both files into a directory and
Code:
zip -r9 name_of_zip.zip *
Where "name of zip" is your name for the zip. All files in the directory get added, so make sure you sandbox them first!
Thanks, I'm actually not particularly technical due to old age
I added your tweaks last night and I've also started using greenify (started using night before) now I'm obviously on a learning curve here but here's a pic of my battery overnight.

Thanks, I'm actually not particularly technical due to old age
I added your tweaks last night and I've also started using greenify (started using night before) now I'm obviously on a learning curve here but here's a pic of my battery overnight.
I'm quite pleased with the sleep.

It gets even better... So far I have 4:15 screen on time with 54% battery left And the device feels faster. It is just getting optimized as far as I am concerned. I can easily drop the freq some more with no issues.
45 myself. hard to believe we started out without microwaves and I was still using a typewriter in high school.

How could I apply these scripts to Bob's kernel?

Any device with init.d support built into the kernel should work. Follow the directions on the second post of my kernel thread for details.

My battery life is also really good. Had it on all night and have WiFi set to Keep WiFi on during sleep: Only when charging. It stayed at 76% all night

Because they don't work on the Nexus 6 but you continue to mislead other users on that they work for the placebo effect.
As simms22 already pointed out.. the Nexus 6 (and other devices running Lollipop) use Android RunTime (ART), Dalvik is not existent in Lollipop.
If they do work as you claim, provide evidence and proof to backup your claims. Otherwise, people are just taking your "word" for it.
I want to see video evidence that these tweaks do more than fcuk all.
P.S. Dalvik like others have said doors not exist on lollipop so how can you tweak something which does not exist?
You may as well sell snake oil for all these tweaks are worth.

Does not doors.
im going to jump in and defend the op.. at one point these "tweaks" were good to go. problem is that its probably still good, on much older devices, or non nexus devices. at least some of the tweaks, not all of them, for sure. like if i had a samsung phone, many would probably be good. but the op doesnt own a nexus, so he just didnt know.

on my nexus 4 never used tweaks and never tested my tweaks i used clean cm ,but on my nexus s i used them and i can tell it in older device u can see some different but maybe is a mind thing who knows,nexus 6 is a powerfull device no need boost but i post them here if any1 wonna test them to test them.
Some of these tweaks were good in 4.1-4.4.4 ROMS, but with 5.0 they are now useless.

on older devices, yea, youll see a slight difference. but the differences are there. on newer devices, even if there are differences its too hard to actually tell.
