so we must wait till crisch release his beautiful work
This is exactly the kind of thing that made me switch to a Nexus. HTC is getting seriously annoying and it is almost enough to make me sell my Desire. Well done HTC..
It really sucks too, because I was looking forward to seeing official ICS on the DHD. LC's is absolutely amazing, but without an official release of ICS, a lot of the problems the phone has in regards to ICS will be much more difficult to fix.
Oh well. I'm sure ClockaN will do absolutely amazing without an official update.

I don't think HTC realize the damage they do to themselves when they piss off the geak crowd. The reason that all 4 people in my family have htc phones is because me,the "techy" person, recommended that was a good choice. As soon as they piss off the techy person by doing something like this then they loose a lot more then the immediate customer they loose all the recommended customers as well. Grave mistake HTC.
I just don't get this...
So... a 600 MHz cpu with 512mb ram (desire c) can handle ICS and sense 4, but the Desire HD can't?
Yeah, my next phone will be a nexus one.

Wow, that sucks big time! That easily sounds like the stupidest thing I've seen a company do for a long time. I like HTC as anyone else here but I hope this backlash hurts them big time so they learn they can't just screw over their loyal customers like that.
Hopefully they come to their senses and take it all back like they did last year regarding the desire. Or we could all try and pressurise them into releasing all proprietary hardware drivers etc. But I doubt we'll have any luck with that!

I'm sure this angers the Inspire community as well. I have an Inspire 4G and I know the DHD devs make our phone much more worthwhile!
From what I read at HTC statement in their blog, it is not because DHD can't handle the ICS, but it is because they think our phone is in it greatest performance with latest Gingerbread update with Sense 3.0, so they did not want to spoil this enjoyment just for the sake of newer OS. I think HTC sees this problem from average joe perspective, whom never root or play with their phone, and just click on "Update" button whenever it's popped-up on their phone screen.
" ...ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor."
By the sounds of these posts, the CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE is pretty poor at the moment.

Why is it that every time when someone comes along with informations from any blog, which says the update is canceled, the hole crowd is going nuts?
Just yesterday some German finally heard about rumors from canceling ICS. So they contacted HTC and they said, the update will be released.

gotta agree with you. IMO theres not anything new that can convince me to get a better phone. Unless my DHD is getting out of date cant use new apps anymore.
Same with my laptop its old, slow. but it does what i need from it. Extras are nice but aint important for me.
There is nothing new that would worth upgrading for.... Most of the phones in my country don't have nfc so I don't see any use of it...

Getting my Att one x upgrade, then selling on CL. Waiting for a real smartphone with a effing sdcard slot. Not going backwards from 32gb sdcard to 9gb internal storage. What a joke.

I think the DHD is still quite decent. I am starting to regret my "upgrade" to the Nokia Lumia 800. Somehow the Lumia battery life is considerably worse that the DHD, even with less usage and not having proper multitasking.
Yup, the DHD does everything and I when I cant do what I need to, I'll think about an upgarde.
I reckon when I get an upgrade HTC One X i'll give it to the Mrs.

My last 3 phones have been HTC. A winmo 6 that I don't even remember the model #, a G1, and my shift. If HTC comes out with a full QWERTY slider I may still not be completely sold on it. I've come to the realization that either company's new phones will be powerhouses. My next phone must have a full slider, and give me a first impression of durability! And constructed so that otterbox can design a damned cover that will last more than a month! I'm with my shift until February anyway, so I'm giving both companies the needed time to appease me. Lol.
Is it just me or is Motorola's US site all dicked up?

Very sad but nothing new. Almost all major corporations engage in shifty practices such as this. However, they do not all get caught.
To give a bit of a perspective as to why I am moving from the one to the s4
I am not a HTC hater yes my last couple of phones have been Samsung but I thought of give HTC a go on my next upgrade and boy do I regret it
I don't regret it because it's HTC because in fact before my sammy days I always bought HTC I hate it because HTC sent out a brand new flagship with major issues
My first one had gone button problems and the camera when video recording was awful it had a high pitched hiss on it
My second had proximity sensor problems , the lights on home and back didn't work and worse still the screen wasn't sealed so white could be seen
The third which broke the camels back and made me change to the s4 on launch had once again home / back button problems
The one is a beautiful device but it's full of qa issues
So to Sammy I go again I'm hoping the s4 is perfect and I wish id waited for the s4

HTC is probably a year from getting sold to another company. I loved my One X, but they hosed the deployment by succumbing to AT&T locking the boot loader and then released the One X+ too soon.
They are circling the drain. Their delays on the One will probably kill them this time, that and once again locking the boot loader on the One on AT&T.

With that said, the HTC bunch on the XDA forums on flagship phones seem to be a crowd that whines and complains quite a bit. It was the same way when I owned my HOX.
Be happy with what you have. At least you have the funds to either spend 650 USD on a phone or have enough money to pay for a cellphone contract. I live in a poor area and I can see what true poverty is. I'm quite happy with the device at large. Reading the butt-hurt pains of the people on this forum is the best form of stand-up comedy in Southeast Asia.

Could you point me to the page in the warranty that states we're entitled to x number of Sense updates?
Thought so.
It has nothing to do with getting the most out of the device (as does anyone); your analogy holds no water because these are phones not assaults (sensationalism); my thought was more along the lines of HTC customers being very vocal in how much they despise the upgrade process / support...but still buy HTC anyway.
If you're on XDA you knew what you were getting into anyway....so just complain about things you can control, not things you can't.

You would think manufacturers would be better with updates. I suppose that its an issue that only bothers very few users though. Would be interesting to see if a manufacturer would gain market share simply by providing very fast updates.

People seem to forget that the One S was marketed as the mid-range phone between the One V and the One X. If you buy a mid-range phone and expect more than one major update (in this case, it was ICS to JB), then you're out of your mind. If you want more than one major update, buy the flagship, not the mid-range.

I'm not making excuses for them... But it is way easier to update the vanilla android experience than it is to do the same for sense. They have to build and test sense on top of these updates. They still haven't updated all the unbranded unlocked devices or developer editions running sense.
