The title doesn't say it all.....at all. What the heck is this thread about? You can root without losing your data, but unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything. Is that the information you were looking for?

Sorry about my bad English!
Standard Nexus set up is to ship with a locked bootloader, but for those that want to tinker, it's easy to unlock.
Beware that doing so will wipe your phone, so it should be the first thing you do to it
Thank you very much
Sorry about my bad English!
What are the benefits of unlocking the bootloader?

I'm finally replacing my nexus 7 because of my speaker popping and cracking. I recently had my computer crash, and lost all my files and drivers ext.
I'm wondering if you guys think I need to re lock my tablet before I send it back or if it's okay to send it back unlocked?

I think you should because your warranty will be void if you root and unlock your device.

Do some reading in the wug tool thread, there is info in there that helps with this. Start at the end and go backwards.

Hi,
For rooting, unlocking, flashing and whatnot with the Nexus 7, which toolkit do you think is the best?
1)Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit
or
2)Google Nexus 7 Toolkit by mskip?
Which has more features, or support?
Wug's

None!
It's almost more easy to do it manually.

I actually wouldn't mind doing it manually. Could you link me to any guides on that?
Look up? There are these things called stickies.

Learn how to work with adb and fastboot, so you can unlock and root your nexus manually. This way is so much easier then you might think.
Only use wug's toolkit if you have trouble installing your drivers.
