I know it's a scary thought but what kind of companies do people work for that would do this to them for no reason?
I actually have full control over it myself on Outlook Web Access, I can remove devices or initiate a wipe myself. I would probably just wipe it myself from there if I lost it.

Using "Enhanced Email" on my Galaxy S3 and now on my N7 to get to my corporate email, without the need for a PIN or remote wipe by admins.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qs.enhancedemail&hl=en
They have a free 7 day trial (also details about a new release that is going to update the UI)

Oh, I guess I didn't read that thoroughly.
There is a way to use IMAP to connect to an Exchange server. Your Exchange admin might not be too keen on allowing that, though, as it doesn't let them enforce security policies (password, remote wipe, etc.).
Also- you might want to look at Touchdown or some other third-party Exchange client. I know you lose the benefits of using the integrated stuff but it might be worth it in your case.

Google disables Nexus 7

Anybody knows what happens to your Nexus 7 after you reported lost/stolen? What does Google disables? How long does it take for Google to send you a new one?
Called Google and they say the 2 level department that handles losses usually takes 3-4 days for them to reply to you after you reply with "I CONSENT" which authorizes Google to disable your previous device. I am on day 4 so far nothing...
What exactly are they going to disable if never received it?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
not 3g,no imei, how can they disabled it.
Mac address maybe. But its easy to change with Mac changer....
Why are you worried or curious as to what or how they'll disable a N7 that you don't have? I wouldn't care what disabling a N7 I didn't have entailed. Just curious.

Maybe it was linked to his/her account?

How could it be linked to their account when it never made it to their hands? Google shipped it but they never received it.

Linked to your account in terms of your email address for purchase history with the play store only.Google doesn't put anything on the device that would link you to it.
Mine too was linked to my account when I bought it

what do you mean by "linked"? It was "linked" before you even turned it on to sign in to your gmail? It already knew who you were before doing anything? Linked how?
There is an option when you checkout asking you if you want it linked to the account you checked out on. If you select yes they do add your account to the device before you get it.

The email account is setup and presumably all the apps are setup (saving you a few seconds maybe). It does still ask for the password before you can use it though.

Well when I buy a new phone/device and sign in to my Gmail all my apps start downloading and my account was never linked until I signed it.. Isn't that just the "way" it is?

I honestly don't know.
All I know is that the N7 I got from play store I checked the box to link to my account, the one I got from Curry's obviously didn't have the option.
The only difference between the two is that I had to enter my password into the linked one and had to enter my email and password into the not linked one. I could not see any difference whatsoever besides.

Ok, that's cool...thanks for the explanation. I'm seriously just trying to understand what's the big deal about Google disabling a device that I never received. Maybe the op did have the account linked....but I honestly can't see Google having that big of a security issue open by sending out devices that are linked already....for situations like this where the device doesn't get to the owners hands in delivery.

Get around exchange security?

Is there a flash to bypass email security on exchange email?

Looks like only 4.1 support there...
The other link is a patch script - it extracts your existing email client, patches, re-packages and pushes it back to the device. Clever stuff and, so far, has worked across multiple Android versions without problem. Better than a static, patched .apk I reckons...
It works fine on 4.2, been using it for a while now.

Fair comment, but it does mean you're running a 4.1.x email client which seems kinda a shame... :-\

"Obviously requires root access and working adb." - so, needs a computer. When I do this it takes around 60s to complete and then I can re-add the Exchange account, which is removed as part of the process.

just needed to reboot now it works.
Any newer versions? I just updated Xylon and now I can't get this to work anymore.

Talking bout the Android Device ID or something different? (Titanium Backup usually lets you generate a new one, or restore one from a previous backup).

Where exactly does it say this, maybe you're thinking of email signatures or such, and it would depend on the type of email client. Normally your actual android device ID isn't just arbitrarily transmitted in an email.

It's not a signature and it's not the android device ID, they don't match. My work email pulls it off the phone. It even shows it when I set up the email. I did some research and that's how I found out it's called a mobile device ID.

So you're using an app specific for work then I'm guessing. If you got access to the original rom where the ID is correct, you can install titanium backup from the play store there. Then backup the settings (under preference there's a way to save the titanium backup settings to the SD Card/media space), then restore new rom, install titanium backup again, point it to the sdcard/external for it's backup, and you may be prompted with a prompt that your android ID differs from the other, and given the opportunity to restore it from backup (however bear in midn you may have to reinstall some applications that are dependent on your new ID).
There may be an easier way, but it's just weird that you have a work email that would work based off that.
It's not a host name I just tried that too.

That looks very much like a setting you jsut set in the app/email client. Just like the iPhone has that, it's in the settings. What email client are you using, should be just like the XDA/Tapatalk app where you can modify the manual signature.

Oh just the standard ol email app. Double check the settings of that app , On the message list -> menu -> settings -> Tap account -> Signature
(by default nothing shows in the signature area when I send myself a test email thru my yahoo account, nor nothing in the mail headers to designate operating system)
Unless of course you're saying that it's being performed serverside.
How about in developers options their is one called device hostname and it can be edited, by default my devices all say Android-some random numbers and letters.

Email

My company has put some block on our Exchange Server preventing emails to come down to "unothorized" devices. I tried a few third party apps and somehow they work but as expected the stock Samsung email won't. Is there some sort of mod or hack I can do to get the stock email to work? I'm kinda hooked on this airview gimmick. I can still get my email with Emoze or Touchdown but I really like the stock app. Any ideas?

I don't think this will happen for a few reasons. First, the source code is not available for modifications, this means that they would need to build a new app from scratch and try to integrate airview (another closed source application). Second reason is that falsely reporting behaviour of an apps is morally ambiguous and many people won't help with it.
I've seen an app that does essentially what you are looking for; Falsely reporting implemented security policies to an exchange server, this was done on a galaxy nexus (or maybe it was a nexus s) and someone had re-written key parts of the the app source code then compiled the APK.
Touchdown works because it's capable of fully implementing Exchange security policies that your native app may not be capable of providing. I would assume the same for emoze.
I would take a serious look at what you are doing, By going this route, you are violating your work policies and may be putting your job at risk.. is this risk worth having airview? I would recommend using touchdown or emoze and live without airview.

It could be a bunch of things, might be as simple as updating the exchange server and the new default policy is more secure.

Chances are they are blocking exchange activesync from the server for un authorized devices. This is a server side setting. It might work via pop but in my experience if u block a device in exchange from using EAS no app that uses that protocol will work.

Also on stock and mint jelly at least the stock app is capable of working with exchange 2007, 2010, and 2013. I have tried on all 3 personally. I manage exchange for our corporate environment.

It wouldnt be called KNOX if you could easily break through the protection
If touchdown and other apps work then I doubt they are blocking per device. Have you asked what the policy is? Samsungs EAS has a lot of options and if they let in touchdown I see no reason to block GS4. I know when the GS3 came out there were some tecnical issues my company experienced that caused connectivity problems but they did not block one model of android.
Idk it's weird.. They said as of Saturday no more emails.. And it stopped. But Emoze works fine
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Exchange security can block your device.
If you want to receive emails on your phone, your Exchange Admin will have to make an exception for your phone.

Most likely those use an internet-based connection like outlook web and outlook anywhere do. They can block that as well, but they are probably most concerned about pushed activesync connections. I bet the company still lets you check email over the internet, right?
Yes.. You can still log on to webmail. I think it's ActiveSync they put the Kabash on
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
No big deal I'll just use Emoze.. Works fine, has Push and has a decent UI. Probably a good idea to not get sucked into all these Samsung gimmicks anyway. The new Motorola sounds pretty bad ass and if HTC comes out with the 'two" next year and it has a removable battery, it's bye bye Sammy.
