i know the part about doing a factory reset, but what else should i be concerned about?
by the way, is there a easy way i can backup everything so i can reload it back on the new replacement tablet? i can back up the apk files but would rather be able to do a backup/restore and be ready to go
thanks in advance

you need to become familiar with clockwork mod recovery, that is the back up you're looking for. you must be rooted in order to use this custom recovery.
Lock the bootloader and then go into settings and restore from the back up. It'll become stock and ready to ship.

If you checked "backup" at the setup, when you set up your replacement it should have "restore" option. It initially loaded everything back on mine, but from a different device.

When I started playing with my Hero I did not know about making a recovery image. Now I want to put it completely back to stock unrooted. Would it be possible for someone to give me their factory recovery image so I can flash mine back to factory stock? Also, would that make it so the ota's would work again?

You can get the ruu from the sprint website. Just flash it and it removes your root access.

Would that also put all the factory apps back on too? I want to make it like it was just bought.

That's exactly what the RUU does. Once you do it, you can't go back, i.e., you can't nandroid back since there's no custom recovery to boot to.

This sounds exactly like what I want to do. I found the file on Sprint's sit, but the instructions are a little vague, like what mode do I put my phone in when I connect the usb? Could someone give a quick rundown of how to do it? I just want to make sure I do it right so I don't brick my phone.
Also, will this work if I already removed some of the Sprint apps?
Just plug in your phone and have it on, it doesn't matter what screen it's on our what rom or apps or anything that you have

Hi i have a question. Is there a way to perform complete system backup BEFORE rooting my phone. ...that i can have total system backup like the mobile came with? tnx for answers...
I can't remember for sure, as I've only ever seen it a couple of times, but I think you can backup and restore from the original recovery mode, just like in CWM recovery.
Turn the phone off and then press and hold volume up, home and power. Keep them held till the menu appears. If you can backup and restore from that menu then that's what you're looking for. If you can't then you're probably not gonna get anywhere until you get firmware with CWM flashed. Despite what other people will no doubt say, Titanium Backup will not backup and restore your whole ROM the way it currently is. It's perfect for apps and associated data, but not whole system backups.

yeah im not sure...i will try. But to have CWM you must have root...so again is rooted and not original...
you can't, all you can do is note the exact rom you are presently using and download it in case you need to go back.
When the phone is rooted and a custom recovery is installed, then you would have the ability to back-up your phone
Just root, install cwm and make a backup although the backup will have root you can just remove it if you ever need to restore the back up
Ricey
Hit thanks if it helped

i am asking all this because i buy mobile on provider network. so i dont know if they put some settings inside, that canot be undone when root/flash...
Aslong as you backup straight after root i cant see you having problems its only the kernel and recovery that changes that i can gather.

I would like to do a complete back up of the kernel, rom, apps, data, etc. and move it all over to another Nexus 7.
Is it possible to do a complete backup and restore via USB? Backup to Desktop, and then restore into the new 7?
If so, what is the best way?
Thanks!
If you use an older version of cwm (pre 6.x.x.x) it will create a single backup file instead of the current system with the blobs folder. However I would be very wary of moving one backup to another

Let me explain. I am replacing my Nexus 7 with a new one, and don't want to have to set it all up again because it's perfect right now
No clean way to do this? I have to just rebuild it all over again on the new 7?
If you are rooted, you can almost do it that easy, but you would need to unlock and root the new device first, install recovery and then move the saved nandroid backup to the new device and use recovery to restore that and you would have a copy of your old device on the new one.
The last time I did that,I was up and running on the new device in about 15-20 mins.

If you are not rooted, there is another method, but I've never actually tried doing it, so I don't know how well it works.

Thanks. That helps alot. I am rooted so should be good to go. I was not aware that the nandroid file could be saved and restored to a new device.

On my Android phone, Nandroid does not back up the internal (/emmc) data nor the /sdcard data. Does it back up EVERYTHING on the Nexus 7?
I had a question meanwhile so I am able to better protect my nexus 4. I had ceberus installed on my galaxy nexus, but really for anyone that has half a brain he would just flash the phone back from the boot menu. Is there a way to protect your phone from being flashed if stolen? Can you put a pass to even get into the boot menu? :crying:

If you install cerberus via CWM (a system apk) it can survive a factory reset... And people who are about to steal your phone have no idea what CWM is... so you it should work!
Edit: I actually remove my CWM entirely and go back to stock recovery. Makes it even harder for them to get at it.

It sucks that you lost your GNex.
If you are lucky enough you can still find it and recover it using AndroidLost:good:.
Its on the Play App store. This app can locate your phone, and take pictures of who ever is holding it and/or using it. You can lock your phone with it but any android power user can flash your phone from the boot menu. The idea is to get to your phone before anyone attempts to flash it in the first place, by locating it in 2 minutes using AndroidLost or any respectable Find My Device kind of apps. Worse case it will delete everything on your phone if you cannot locate it, as to keep preying eyes away from your data.
www.AndroidLost.com
Let me know if you need help with the App, I use it daily for almost a year now.

No...All you need to do is copy the cerberus.apk to the system/app folder. OTA don't uninstall the app. If you are concerned, after an OTA update, check the folder and see if the cerberus apk is there. If it is, you are good to go, if not, just copy it back.
Id recommend downloading hidden version of Cerberus .... Found on their webpage

Hello,
I really want to root my Nexus 6p but I have a few questions.
1) How can I make it so that if it goes wrong I can get my phone back it's original state with all my stuff there. (Backing up basically)
2) How can I make it so that when I have rooted my phone keeps the same layout (I use Nova) and all my apps, games contacts etc. are reinstalled
3) How do I root my Nexus 6p, 6.0.1. I was going to use this gadget hacks tutorial but I didn't know if it would work?
Thanks alot,
Callum

It's all in my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
You first need to unlock your bootloader, then install TWRP recovery, then you can flash SuperSU to gain root. To answer your questions:
1. You can't. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device, so you need to backup your photos, videos, etc to your PC first. You can't backup your apps and settings. This is why it's a good idea to unlock your bootloader when you first get the device.
2. You'll have to download your apps again though. Your contacts should be synced with your Google account so they'll just sync back to the device.
3. See my guide linked above. It's very detailed and has everything you need to know.
Will android not automatically download apps when I log in?
Also is there a way of keeping my settings the same.
I wish I had rooted right away but too late now.

It might download your apps automatically, it never does for me though. There's no way of keeping your settings, the device is going be wiped and there's no way to back them up.
OK thanks

If I were to root then flash a custom ROM, do I still need to flash different radios and firmwares when newer ones come out? Or does that come with the ROM upon flashing?

ROMs don't include radios or other firmware components like the bootloader or vendor. When I ROM gets updated and is based on a newer build you'd need to flash those yourself with fastboot (the vendor can be flashed with TWRP though).
