Hey all, I actually love the Nexus 7, but am infuriated by it to the point of it being unusable.
Yes - it's unlocked, rooted, etc. Fully updated, and STOCK OS, though (besides the root, of course).
If I use it for more than a few minutes, the digitizer stops recognizing input - swipes, taps, etc. It's like it just ignores it for a few MS and then remembers "Oh yeah, you DIDN'T want to launch that bird yet..."
Here are a few videos - working and not working.
I think it's heat related (for me), as I just ran Quadrant, and it happened towards the end of the process.
Here is it working:

And here is after a few minutes of Angry Birds / Cut The Rope (not even a Prime95 scenario!)

Anyone else?

Thanks, yep, same issue. Mine is going back for a refund, waiting teething issues out. Bummed.
Mine is doing the same thing. Multiple touches sometimes cancel each other out . Making it impossible to play games with dual sticks..

Just bought my new Nexus S today and I really like it so far. Seems to perform well, so I was excited to try out Homerun Battle 3D. As soon as I started playing, it seemed like something was very wrong with my accelerometer. The game was acting as if my hands were very shaky. So I downloaded a free app called "3D Level" to see how it was reading my accelerometer. Sure enough, when on a flat surface (perfectly still), the app acts as if my phone is moving around. Wondering if this is a software issue (maybe things changed a little in Gingerbread) or if my phone is defective? Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Thanks.

may have to do with a app/phone/OS issue maybe all combined...lots of apps have issues with the NS at the moment.
and i notice what your talking about in Need For Speed Shift

Similar problems.
Just to follow up on this -- I stopped by Best Buy and was able to reproduce the exact same issues with the display unit. Which leads me to believe that there must be a change to the way apps read the phone's movement now that the gyroscope has been introduced. I guess we'll just have to wait/hope all apps get updated to work correctly again in 2.3.
I picked up the iconia on sunday, I have been playing with it for a while now but the battery seems a little weak. I used to have an I pad then an I pad 2 and with similar usage they lasted much longer than this tab. Is this typical? I have renames phone.apk and telephonyprovider.apk and it didnt seem to do much. Is there anything else I can do?
Another issue is the moments of lagm like while i typed this, the letters had an obvious pause while I typed, sometimes on a web page it would just freeze up for a second. Some pages just plain crash the browser.
The last thing that has me on the fence on whether or not I swap this for an I pad 2 is the market not working, the app always has connection errors.
I am a little biased, I loved my ipad2 but it was stolen, this is the replacement, aside from those issues and the weight of the device I like it, and android gives it extra brownie points as well. But can any of those issues be fixed?
Try a different browser
As far as your browser problems go, try downloading and installing Dolphin HD. much more stable and much better features than stock.
My question to you -- Did your tablet update the system to 1.141.07 yet? When mine did last Friday it cured all of my Market crash problems. If not, when it DOES, make sure you rename those telephony apk files back to original before you update or it may crash your tablet.
Also, as with any LI battery, when breaking it in make sure you let it run down until the indicator turns orange before recharging. My tablet has gone from 7-8 hours of fairly consistant use to 10 to 14 hours. Today mine has been on since 9am and still not in the danger zone yet at almost midnight (but getting close now).
As with any battery powered device, what you are doing with it affects battery life too. Watching lots of streaming video and intensive games will run it down faster. Also, check update frequency of apps like mail, facebook, twitter. The more often they update the faster your battery will drain even when it is 'sleeping'.
And don't forget, it is also new to you still, and you are probably using it more right now trying to learn it and just playing around than you actually will on an average day.

That is a good point. The update came in when I connected to my wifi, since I got it. I have started using dolphin HD but it is still a little glitch, not as has as stock though.
Unfortunately, the glass has started to come lose for some reason, I really want to like this tablet but its not making it easy for me. I have to return this on no matter what, the loose glass will only get worse. I think I might stick to an I pad for now. Its not so great but it works for me. Maybe the transformer will work a little better.
Also main reason for this is reading and my arm is killing me. This tab has lots of fat.
Why do I have to be such an android fan boy. I really want a honecomb tab, but the I pad form factor is so damn perfect for my hands.
Thank for the input.
If the Apple experience is good for you, then I highly recommend the iPad2. I have one and I am getting ready to sell it (not to you). The iPad2 hardware and build quality are excellent, I just can not stand not being able to fully access my device. I am weird like that. I prefer my A500. For what it is worth, I get excellent battery life out of both, but my A500 sucks down battery like there is no tomorrow when I play movies that can not be hardware accelerated. In all other instances, I get outstanding battery life.
Your choice on where you should go. Either way, have fun.
I am on the fence right now. I really enjoy having this tablet, despite the quirks. My main issue is the weight and how apparently games are laggy. I tried plants vs zombies at it slow down alaot. I also get many fc on every app. I don't want an I pad I just want its stability. I have my eye on the samsung galsxy tab 10.1, time will tell.
I have to wonder what you've done to your device... Mine plays Plants vs Zombies perfectly, I suffer from no slowdowns, have never had a FC from and stock apps (some 3rd party ones do from time to time, but there's no way of telling if it's caused by the app, the OS, or the tablet hardware).
I rooted it once, installed an app that needed some files in /system and then unrooted again because, really, I see no need to stay rooted...
If you are considering purchasing an AT&T Atrix 4G I have to warn you that it is a very bad product for heavy touchscreen users (AKA: gamers). Why? Because the touch input is turned off if you keep your fingers pressed on the screen, on the same spot, for a long time. This is supposed to make the phone ignore permanent input from, say, a waterdrop. Which although it makes sense is so poorly implemented that makes the screen confuse your finger with a waterdrop (lol).
Unfortunately motorola's devs don't have a single clue about what gaming is about and community devs:
a) don't game;
b) don't care; or
c) don't have a clue how to fix it.
To confirm the issue try a free app called Phone Tester and run the multitouch test keeping your finger pressed, on the same spot, until the app recognizes number of touches. Takes about 15s to disable the touch input (at least on a AT&T phone).
PS: if ORANGE and BELL users can keep the fingers pressed longer than 15s without the phone disabling touch input we know it's AT&T's fault.
I didn't buy this phone just for gaming, that's why I have an xbox.

I don't game on my Atrix anymore, though I used to before I had a Transformer to play those games on. Never once did I have a problem with the touchscreen on the Atrix playing games, holding down on the screen was never an issue, even playing nes and snes roms. The only difficulty playing games on it was the small screen and thin size which made it hard to hold and play.
Thanks for making a big deal out of nothing.
The OP's complaint is a non-issue to 99.5% of the atrix community. SPAM!

I am much more interested in finding a way to be able to transmit my music via fm to my car stereo.

I agree this is a huge problem for me as well. I'd like to see Ninja include the hack to turn this off. Maybe when CM7 finally gets ported it won't be in there. If ninja goes AOSP with the stupid raindrop detector off, I'll put it on.
There's no such problem with atrix like the one that op stated. Maybe it was there with older roms but now no such issue. People like to talk from what they see on the videos without ever touching or owning.
Atrix doesn't have a gyro for better gaming and that's it.
OP is a goofball
heh your calling us insane? I have every tegra game, its a non issue, take a finger off the screen for split second every once and a while. Mole hill, meet your mountain!!
GOF2THD is great, Bangbang racing, f**king goldeneye 64 and starfox 64 with onscreen controls works great, although my wiimote works better. N64 games are epic with or without controller, OP doesn't know what he's talking about.

The problem really exists and it is a fact. But it only happens when you press an area without move for ˜15 seconds. Once you get used to it, you can avoid it easily.
You can not say Atrix is a bad product just because of it. It's true that there are better products than Atrix, but it doesn't mean that Atrix sucks.

Games are for babies, you should of bought a DS if you wanted a toy so bad.
Well, of course for pure gaming there are much better alternatives out there (xbox, ps3, nds, etc). But it sucks that such potential enjoyment for such a powerfull device is pretty much ruined thanks to this issue.
And I'm not saying Atrix is a terrible device. It is a great device, just not for gamers. That's all. What bugs me is no one from motorola or the dev community seem to be giving much attention to this issue. Which is A VERY BIG ISSUE for gamers.

Oh Im quite sure you're a decidedly grown man who edits Excel spreadsheets and write philosophy books on your cellphone. For the rest of us, the need to "take a finger out of the screen for a split second" every frigging 15 seconds may be very, very annoying. Or not. The fact is, the phone has this issue, and it makes 0 sense.
this only happens if you touch the screen an dont move. if youre playing a game and not moving youre kinda lame
It's a known issue, and Motorola acknowledged it a good while ago. They claimed that they would try to find a balance between the raindrop detection and gaming, though only time will tell if an official patch manages to fix it up.
As previous users have said though, if you can just get used to a release for a split second every so often it really isn't a problem.
I can't found a single game where you have to keep your fingers still more than 2 seconds!
While these games have beautiful graphics and appear to be stable, one common issue I've noticed with both games is that every so often the character will swing around like 180 degrees. I think I came across at least one other person with Nexus 7 that reported this issue. Anyone not have this issue? Other than that annoying issue I actually like the games. Running stock 4.1.1.

You may be suffering from this issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789450
Watch the video and you'll see why you are having this issue.
I've had this problem slightly with Dead Trigger. I think it has something to do with the control scheme, where the area that is used as a virtual thumb stick to move your player also can be used to turn the view of the player, and causes you to randomly turn when you're trying to move. This may not be the problem, but it's what I've noticed.

Thanks for the useful link. I don't want to jump to any conclusions yet but will try to replicate with other games from other publishers to determine if the issue is confined to just Madfinger games (Shadowgun THD and Dead Trigger) or if it's across the board.
Just had a thought if it's somehow related to display autorotation. I know if I launch the game in portrait mode it will switch to landscape mode where it prefers the USB connector end on the right side. But since my charger is situated on the left and due to the shortness of the cable I force autorotation where the USB connector is on the left side and the position that the 180 flip issue in game has been occurring. I'll play the games some more in the preferred landscape mode with USB connector on the right to see if I can replicate it as that will give a better idea as to root cause. Interesting that there isn't an option to disable autorotation.
I've never experienced this and I've played dead trigger quite a bit... I also tested for the problem on the video and thankfully I don't have that problem either.
*Edit* it took me a while to replicate but I do experience the issue on the video. I'll play DT some more and see if I can get it to happen.

I've had this problem playing DT as well.
Switched to a controller and it's more fun that way anyway!
I've noticed the same issue sometimes when playing Dead Trigger.
This is not specific to the N7 or Dead Trigger, I've always had this problem with Shadow Gun and now with Dead Trigger. This is on more than one device. (Kindle Fire CM9, Galaxy Nexus, Droid X ...etc)
Just an update. I bought Max Payne and GTA III games from Rockstar publisher with similar controls but they don't have that 180-degree flip issue. So, it seems Madfinger games like Dead Trigger and Shadowgun have a software bug in their controller code. I ended up liking Rockstar games better anyhow for the story line and game play and lack of in-store purchase nag like in Dead Trigger. Relieved that it's not the Nexus 7 or JB 4.1.1.
I have installed SGT7 Build 1 and I can no longer replicate the issue. I will be testing this more to see if this is a software issue.
They just updated the 180 degree turn. According to their update today. Will report if any 180 reoccur

I need to vent, not looking to start arguments but rather just reporting my experiences.
Nvidia Shield Tablet arrived 3 days ago, loved it after using it for 2 hours, happy times.
Then I made the mistake of trusting Nvidia with an OTA update from whatever version of LP it arrived with to MM - big mistake (by Nvidia - how am I supposed to have made a mistake when it's an OTA update?) because after this the Shield Controller buttons stopped working, I'm assuming because of that update but I'm not certain by any means. Updated the controller firmware with OTA, no change, shoulder buttons still do not work.
Downgraded to 5.1.1 stock, shoulder buttons do not work still. Oh and it's gone from buttery smooth 3D performance to constantly slowing down every few seconds. Oh yeah and every 15 or whatever seconds it goes to the map screen without my input.
So basically it's a useless lump ATM.
In between me loving it and getting to this sorry state was a whole load of stuff not working which unfortunately I've just come to expect from Android ... formatting the SD card and then dissappearing it or complaining that it has 0bytes available (solution: format in another device), TWRP acts ... retarded, I doubt it's anything to do with developers as I've never had issues with TWRP other than on Shield such that doing anything with it is punctuated by 30 second freezes. MTP is the usual lottery - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't etc. \
I'm sure that has nothing to do with Google wanting to sell cloud storage but rather they are just inept when it comes to that.
I guess tomorrow I will add to the 7 hours already spent on this device by trying to find a stock image that works.
I am regretting the purchase ATM unfortunately.
Ahh I feel your pain, been there.
Did you try flashing the marshmallow image? I had so many problems on lollipop with my controller, same deal. Marshmallow fixed everything, and games run even smoother, I can clock the cpu down a few notches for many games now, where I could't on lollipop.
Are you using the K1?

You are having ghost touch , i heard tampered glass screen protector was reducing the high screen sensitivity.
Also calibrate your screen ; take a look at this thread for more details Adjust your touchscreen sensitivity
