I am thinking about switching from my rooted KF to a Nexus 7.
I like the increased processing power and memory along with BT and a GPS chip.
Getting Jelly Bean is icing on the tablet.
I will use my KF as a permanenty hooked Pandora player for me home audio system.
Anyone else thinking about switching from KF to Nexus 7?
Absolutely NOT.... lol
I am currently selling my 2 iPods on CL, I'm hoping not to sell my Kindle Fire, but I might have too.
I really want the Nexus 7

I would wait to see what a 2nd generation Kindle Fire would have to offer.
I'm torn between selling my KF, keeping it, and getting the Nexus 7 (N7).
I decided I'd wait for Amazon to respond with their KF2. Though I can use USB OTG on both the KF and N7, is KF2 had the addition of Bluetooth, GPS, Camera, Mic, and a Micro SD card slot, then this could be a real new competitor.
Also, I really dislike how slow the internal memory on the KF is.
I sold my kf yesterday and pre ordered a nexus on launch day. I would have waited for the kindle fire 2 but I have a feeling the kf2 could have a locked boot loader.

i have a Nexus 7 on pre-order (through JR.com no tax free shipping, before the Slickdeals effect rippled through, we'll see if the pre-order actually sticks), but am tossed up on whether to sell the KF or simply keep it b/c i bought it during the last $139 refurbished Amazon sale and it's still awesome w/ the various CM9 ROMs and great Dev support here. truth be told, the KF w/ CM9 (currently running twa_priv's SGT7 build) does everything i need. don't need the mic or front camera, KF is more than snappy enough for my daily use, screen resolution @ my normal viewing distances is perfectly fine, etc.

Same here. I want the Nexus 7 just because its a nexus, but considering how little I use my KF its not worth the time/effort to sell it and buy a N7
I'll definitely be going after the Nexus tab... Worth it for the "Nexus" part at the least... Going to roll the fire back to stock and give it to a relative...
I preordered because I know the development is gonna be super alive. I'm keeping my kfire cuz it was cheap but the N7 is everything I wish the kfire was. I love what the kfire has become but I need bluetooth, I've learned to live without it but its something I've had a hard tine letting go.
I have 4 otg cables and multiple usb drives and bluetooth adapters. I'm dedicated, but still miss certain features lol

I love the KF especially due to all the hard work hascode and everyone else have put into getting ICS to work, but I pre-ordered the N7 as soon as I could. The N7 is closer to what I want in a tab. I'm going to let the kids use the KF for a gaming platform and I'll continue to flash the latest and greatest builds on it.
im not switching because im way too caught up in porting JellyBean.... Maybe sometime later i will CONSIDER the Nexus 7
sod it i'm having both (if i can install new motherboard on bricked one)
the kindle is a great device for tinkering/learning but that N7 look's super

If I could get a good price for my Fire, I would sell it, but some "dealer" is flooding CL with $75-80 Kindle Fire's, so there is no chance of getting a good price for it.
So if I'm going to buy a tablet outright again, it has to have everything I want...which means MicroSD/SD slot. No more compromises for me.
I am saving up for a surface pro. Kindle fire is my really portable tablet that does everything I need it to, I can't play prime on N7 and I don't own any google music. It's all on Amazon. I am not a fan of any particular corporation. I go with my needs and my need not to waste money. Kindle was the right prize last November and I didn't have a tablet. N7 is the right prize now but not the right time, I already have a table that does what I want. My next tablet will hopefully replace my aging laptop. (I hope!).
Not right now for me. KF does everything I need/want. I COULD use a FFC but I have my Rezound, laptop, and desktop for that so there's really no point. I'll put it this way: When a $199 tablet comes out with everything I want (N7 is missing removable storage), then I'll upgrade. As it stands, the N7 isn't a big enough leap forward.

Hello Everyone,
I have been reading about the known defects with the nexus 7 and am a little concerned.
I really wanted to get one, but now I am not so sure.
Are these defects just basically the luck of the draw?
If I go out to Costco and buy one, is there anyway to know if it was part of a bad run?
What do you all think?
For me, I got a perfect Nexus 7. If it does have a problem you could exchange it anyway so I mean, Google has to get you a good one eventually. MOST of the Nexus 7's don't have problems. With every product there is a chance it doesn't work.
I really don't think you need to worry. Most people only come online to complain about a device and not praise it. My devices are fine and I've had no issues at all.

Yeah I was thinking I could just make sure I get clarification on the stores return policy before I purchase it.
I think I will just come right out and tell them, "look, there are known issues with this device and if I encounter one what is the return policy?"
I am just a little worried is all.
Do you like yours?
I have a kindle fire rooted running CM10 and it is sweet, but I like the specs of the N7
Mine is perfect either. You see all these nexus wwith problems because only people with an issue post for help. Those with perfect nexus usually don't post tp say ''my nexus is perfect!''

Any device you buy your going to have defects, I went through 4 Blackberry playbooks. First nexus I bought was fine. You have 14 Days to exchange it in most retailers if anything is wrong.

Hi guys, I really need some advice on this one otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. I read a similar thread before but I wanted to ask something else too.
I own a 17'' laptop and a Galaxy Note 2 (I use it a lot for work, those 5.5'' really help me) and never considered a tablet until the Nexus 7 came out, basically because of the price. However since I had previously a Note "1" I thought that 5'' vs 7'' wasn't much of a difference and the screen issues pulled me off. Now that a 32gb is basically confirmed and at the same price as the 16gb I am again (and this time seriously) considering it. I live in South America so I can't rely on warranty, 15 days return or stuff like that. I buy from amazon/ebay and that's it. I get what I get, I fix it if it has a fixable issue.
TL;DR:
1) Were the screen issues just a first batch problem or are they still as common as when the N7 launched? I don't mind a DIY fix though.
2) From 5.5'' should I really go the extra mile to 7''? I want to surf the web, check news and mails basically. No need for 3G data.
3) Should I consider a 10'' tablet instead, even at a higher price? For the record my GF iPad 2 doesn't inspire me at all but maybe because of iOS.
Thanks in advance. I really want a taste of Paranoid Android on a Nexus 7. Loved it on the Note 1 and can't wait for it to arrive on the Note 2 if ever.
I think you are misusing the word "need" here. If you have a laptop, and a 5" screen phone, I would say that you have zero "need" for the n7
Why don't you wait til the Nexus 10" is released. It would probably be better than a 7" considering that you have a note

Skip the N7. I have a GS3 and N7 - concerning the N7, other than light kindle use, I can rarely think of a "need" for it.
Thanks for your POV, it really helps me. The reason I am considering the N7 is basically price. I don't like to pay 500 bucks for a tablet, that's why I don't have one. But put 250 for a really good one and things start looking different. Sometimes I want a bigger screen to check the news, read ebooks, and my laptop is too big (17'' is OK as a desktop replacement, not so fun when you just want to hang around your house or read on the couch) and my Note maybe too small, that's where a 7'' would enter. I'll wait, I have no rush, see what the Note 10 brings to the table in terms of specs and price. But I value your opinions.
Does anyone know if the screen issues have been resolved (first batch problem) or still persists in new shipments? Thanks a lot for your answers and please forgive my english

I have a GS3 as well and the note 1 is way bigger than our 4.8" screen.
Definitely don't see a need for a n7 if you have a Note π.
Now a 10 tablet....maybe.

Thanks guys. I'll wait for the October 29th anouncements and then decide. You've been very helpful =)
P.S: 5.5'' is superb for a samrtphone, not so great for ebook readings. You always want something bigger
So I'm debating to get my dad a nexus 7 16gb wifi only from staples for $200,for his b day.. My question is,
What's the common issues? I know reviews are really high but all things have some issues despite people who buy it and a day later review it without having it for some time.
Was it worth it? Do you guys love it or hate it or get annoyed or what? Either this or a electric Fireplace space heater...

I love my nexus 7, its the most up to date google software device running jelly bean. Its pretty smooth on stock software, i SUGGEST the 32gb model, i have it and it was 269$ total that was with ny 8% sales tax. They are selling it pretty cheap it take them about 180$ to make it and they sell it for not much of a profit. THIS IS PURELY GOOGLE software. No ASUS overlay like cellphones or anything. Its great it and the BEST tablet for the money.
Cons: No rear camera, no external SD slot, on stock software you cannot view landscape mode on homescreen and do not purchase from gamestop have not heard good things as in LCD problems and such. I suggest staples, walmart, or playstore.
Hope this helps!
I don't know how old your dad is but I am 66 and I freaking love mine.
Got mine from Google on pre order...unlocked and rooted the first day and haven't looked back!!!

I vote for the Nexus. I've had mine since November and haven't had any problems with it. It's a great value, I did a lot of research before buying mine and found it to be the best 7 inch tablet.

Buy it, you'll have no regrets. I'm sure your dad will love it, just like we love our N7 devices. It's one of the best tablets on the market.
Honestly, I think the N7 is just about the best $200 you can spend as far as technology goes.
Mine is basically defect-free. That hardware is really nice. It's a convenient size, great for reading, email and web-browsing.
However, only you know your dad. If you think he'd like a tablet, the N7 is definitely a great one!
I found this to be ironic since I bought an electric fireplace heater AND nexus 7 recently
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
For my dad I would go with the heater, because he's not into these types of toys. But like someone said, only you know your dad, and the fact your considering getting him one speaks volumes, so as an opinion I say go for it. My 32GB was the best $260 I've spent in a long time.

I don't know your dad's age but I did something similar I'll describe below.
My step-dad is 61. He's never been real big on technology, he likes using it, for example he's a movie buff and loves home theater stuff, but he really doesn't care at all to know how it works or why it works. He's the kind of person who mysteriously ends up with the strangest toolbars ever on his computer when all he was trying to do was type something in notepad.
When he saw my first tablet, which was when the ipad launched originally, he fell in love with having a big screen and touch interface. So I got him one for Christmas and half expected him to use it for a little while and get frustrated or bored and shelve it longterm. But to my surprise he took to it with no problems and lived on it.
Fast forward a few years to the Nexus 7 launch. A few weeks after the Nexus 7 launched (I bought at staples before the pre order fiasco prior to launch day) he had surgery, heart surgery actually. He had some minor complications and ended up staying in the ICU a few weeks instead of a few days. There was no TV where he was.
His surgeon really stressed to us that he couldn't be working from the ICU, so his own ipad was out of the question. I went and bought a case for the Nexus 7 and then loaned it to him in the hospital. He usually likes big screens and large print, but he says the 7 inch screen is perfect for him and he really liked the Jelly Bean OS and interface a lot. Now he's begging for his own Nexus 7 after using those for a few weeks.
When I'm caught up financially I will buying him a Nexus 7 for sure. Even for a "bull in a china shop" type person who's not a techie, the Nexus 7 is one of the best overall devices I think you could give as a gift. The tablet and jellybean just work, and work great, and it's not much of a learning curve.
Just buy it. It's a greatest device for its money with powerful cpu+gpu plus the grate service support (hope you never needed). The only bad thing is that the glass is not gorilla glass but just Corning class so you must be gentle with the screen.

Normally I'd say buy it but if you wait till fall there will be plenty of New tablets in the market to choose from and there are already new tablets out with the same resolution as nexus 10. The nexus 10 is still the best at its price though so if you want a Tablet now I'd buy it because this baby will still last fir a couple years for me at least 2. If you can wait though you'll probably find something better soon

Well for me the nexus 10 is great. It plays games awesome and movies look great in it. Just buy a pogo charger because stock charger is really slow and you'll be good to go with it. Though the galaxy tab 3 was announced so you might want to check it out but the specs aren't any better then the nexus 10. I'd say wait for a couple more people's opinions and see what they say
