I just got my 32 GB all rooted and stuff, trying to connect to my TBolt using Wifi tether but it never pulls a IP address. The stupid verizon wifi hotspot works fine, but not the wifi tether. Any ideas?
It keeps hanging at "Obtaining IP Address"
It's because Android doesn't by default support connecting to ad-hoc wi-fi connections (I know, it's irritating). There is a way to add ad-hoc support (or at least on phones there was, it may have changed for Honeycomb), though it requires root. I'll go see if I can find instructions for it.
ive tried replacing the wpa supplicant, no dice

Ill second that suggestion. That'd how I had it running at first. Then I got the latest version of android wifi tether (3.0) and it works great. I don't remember if you need root. I've been rooted for months so I don't pay attention to appear anymore

Mine works fine. I changed the wpa supplicant file on my 10.1 and I broadcast in ad-hoc mode on my Thunderbolt.
Make sure once you change the wpa file that you set the permissions correctly too.
i had the same problem i had to go into settings in wifi tether and check routing fix. After that it works great.
actually my main problem I had today was that I still had a previous version installed of wireless tether alongside the 3.0 version. Check that and uninstall the old. It cleared it up
Hello. I'm new to xda. I have problem with my Xperia X10i. When I try connect to a wi-fi network it take forever to get its ip adreses and i don't know if it succeeds or not because after that is say's connected with limited connectivity. I have searched the web and xda but nobody has a solution to this problem. I am running Android 2.3.3 updated through SEUS. Not rooted or anything. What can I do?
I had the same problem, so I feel your pain. Go into android market search wifi fix..if the app doesn't solve the problem, reset the router. Hope this helps.

the only issue i am having with wifi sense ive had this phone has been connecting to linksys wireless N routers. i have turned off N functionality of the router using b/g only but all the phone does is alternation between "scanning/disconnected" doesnt try to obtain IP address or anything. its only those routers i have issues with. belkin wireless N works fine (with N turned off of course)
I had a similar problem, I solved it with wifi fix, thanks.
If you updated your x10 through the SEUS...its probably problem on your wifi router..try to reset settings and power off your router..

Okay, so I'm trying to help a guy with his Xperia X10a. He doesn't have wifi working and does not a have an account for the phone so no 3G. He needs to download wifi fix, can he just download it on his computer and then tether it and sideload?
1.make sure that ur access point has internet access.
2.if there's no server then ask ur ISP about static IP & gateway
3.if there's a server..then ask if u can get a static IP
4.also try "forget" then reconnect and if the wifi with a password then it might be wrong
don't connect ur modem in bridge mode.......
Still not working
I have tried the wi-fi fix app and nothing changed. I have found a temporary solution in witch you use static ip on your phone. But this solution is just for home because in a pub or any free hotspot it still doesn't work. Now I have flashed CM7 to my x10 and the wi-fi seems to work a little bit better but not perfect. And the wi-fi range is also poor on X10 compared to a Iphone 3GS or even a Optimus Black.

Orginally yes poor range..don't compare to a s60 nokia phone
i think problem is your wi fi modem , try to setting your modem again ,
Go to setting >Wireless > Security
and
Select SSID: Modem Name
Network Authentication: Open
WEP Encryption: Enabled
Encryption Strength: 128
Current Network Key: 1 ( up to you )
Network Key 1: xxxxxxxx ( 13 characters ) and try again to connect
i've used about 4 different roms and can not get wifi to work correctly on fresh roms with wipe.
they all allow the connection and give the phone an IP address but none let the phone to the internet.
has any one any suggestions?

well dude, before we say it's a hardware matter, have you tried to connect with different WIFI? office, home.... you tried ROMs, but afterall connection is about 2-way.
This is very weird. 4 ROMs!? I've had issues regarding wifi with Gsf. But,this should be some problem concerning your wifi router.Check the settings and try.
Hey,another thing, just check the MAC addresses in your wifi after your phone connects.

Did you restore any wifi passwords using titanium backup while switching between the roms?
long time ago, i have the same problem as you...
i was reinstalling a hundred time a new rom and everytime, i restore app and data from backup titanium... and wifi doesn't work...
There is a issue with blade on wifi n network..it actually connects to wifi g,b networks...we need wifi n drivers to connect to the usual wifi n

Hello everyone I just got my Nexus 7 last night and am trying to tether it to my Motorola Milestone X to get internet when I am not by a wifi connection. I installed the program on my phone and tested it out before buying the Nexus 7 using another smartphone and that phone was able to connect to my foxfi connection and go onto the internet.
When I go into settings and look for foxfi under the wireless connections I do see foxfi and am able to connect to it but where it shows the signal strength is is all grey where as when I am at home connected to my wifi connection it is blue? I try to connect to the internet and nothing happens. I have tried looking on the internet on a solution but have not found any. Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure you're getting an IP?
Have you tried using any other apps such as barnacle or WiFi tether?
are you able to connect to any other wireless networks via your nexus 7?

Ok so my WiFi adapter broke but my phone can still connect to the WiFi, same with all other devices. I borrowed my brothers phone Xperia Z and I was able to WiFi tether with it (Connected to wifi on phone shared with computer NOT T-MOBILE DATA) But his WiFi card decided to do the same thing so now he uses his phone for his WiFi adapter. So I got my Android LG G2 and disabled mobile data pluged it into my computer and turned on wifi. Then I turned on tethering and WiFi was dissabled on the phone and a Error message popped up saying Mobile data is dissabled. Is there anyway I can tether my phone with wifi enabled to my computer I havent had a connection on my computer for weeks to the internet and I cannot replace my WiFi card at this time. Any help is apreactied in advance.
Thanks ~Reece
PdaNet does exactly what you are asking for.
