Battery status says "not charging" even though it is - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I first got my nexus 7 it said that it was "charging" when I plugged it in. A few hours later I updated the software, and it always says that the battery is "not charging". However, if I press the refresh button on the battery status page in settings, the charge percentage still goes up slowly. Is anyone else having this problem? I can't figure out how to fix it. I'm worried that the battery might keep trying to charge even after it hits 100% capacity, since it thinks that it is "not charging".

N7 displays battery not charging, though it is.

I ran into this problem myself where it displays it's not charging under the battery settings and there is no charge icon in the battery icon in the upper right corner. However it is charging. Anyone know of a fix?
Running 4.1.1
Thanks in advance.

Spoke with Google Customer support today, and they aren't aware of this issue. Think it's an issue with the battery sensor. They are sending me a replacement device.
Le sigh.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try calling Google tomorrow. Do you need to send your device back first? Or will they send a replacement unit to you first?

I'm having the same problem. Any news on this?

I'm having the exact same issue.
It's weird, because when the tablet is off, then it shows the big charging logo when short-pressing the lock/unlock button.
But still the battery loads OK !
When connecting the charger, loading status of the battery is "disconnected"...

For me the problem persisted for a few weeks then it randomly disappeared, I think after one of the reboots. I first noticed that it resumed working after I charged the Nexus when it was switched off and the big battery sign came on.
Either way, it's probably a software problem so I just ignored it while it was going on...

Its a known software bug. Especially with car chargers. Just check batt level before plugging in then again in a few minutes. You will see its charging regardless of charge indicator.

Is the bug supposed to happen even with the original charger ?

HD2 not charging, but is recognized by computer

My TMOUS HD2 won't charge when plugged in to any source. I've tried multiple cables and have tried plugging it into the computer as well as into the wall and with the car charger. Nothing as far as a charge, but the light flashes on the LED and when plugged into the computer, it is recognized and can sync.
Also, the "do not charge the battery when connected to a PC" is NOT selected.
Is there a registry setting or something that may have been changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just pulled out the battery and restarted the phone and it charged, but when I unplug it and then plug it back in, it won't charge again. I tried pulling the battery out again and it didn't work.
I'm truly baffled.
Hope you guys are not using an aftermarket battery. If you are, then most likely that is the culprit.
sounds defective to me, maybe a bad battery, or a dodgy circuit in the charge control circuits.speak to your vendor, try another battery.
(id try hard reset first, though)
Mine did this last night. Wouldn't charge of the wall charger or PC. What I did was take the battery out, hold the power button down for 20 seconds, put battery back in, plugged it onto the wall charger and it started to work again.

Well crap. When I get home I'll throw in a stock battery and see if that changes things.
go to
settings->system->power->battery and uncheck "when phone is on, do not charge battery, when connected to a PC"
it should help

for those having this issue you might want to check out the contact points on the phone for the battery.
I had this issue and it would out of no where not charge but it would say the battery is 100% right away and the LED light would blink orange and green. But when you unplugged it it would go right back to the actual charge amount that was on it before.
I noticed when I put in the battery that the middle contact was poking out between the battery and the phone and then i pushed it in and it started charging.

my wife's phone had the same problem with the middle contact. Poor design on htc's part. A hole through the back cover to get to the reset button would be really nice.

Amazing how so many of us can have the same problem, that's TRUE design fault right there. You described my problem exactly, Battery Displaying as 100% when charging, LED flashed Orange and Green and would discharge instead of charging. It was indeed my middle contact, thanks a ton.
I had the same issue, and SOLUTION here worked, but another issue I have is that phone is taking close to 4 hours to completely charge. Anyone out there had the same issue?

Battery icon has yellow triangle and thermostat icon

Hello all,
I left my phone charging over night as usual. When i woke up i was surprised it had only 32%. I plugged the charger back in, but the phone wouldn't charge. I restarted the phone and when it booted up it had 60%
After some standby time it showed 50% .. really confusing. I pulled the battery out and when i plugged it back in and "before" turning it on. The green battery icon came on flashing with yellow triangle and red thermostat (see pic).
It won't boot up until i plugged in the charger. I left charge until 100% and tried to restart. I got the same icon again and had to plug the charger in.
Anyone know the meaning of this? Battery app showing temp as 36C after boot up. Now it shows 34C. I did attempt battery stat wipe too.
Please share with me your thoughts.
EDIT: I returned mine for a replacement. After that, my nephew admitted that he spilled something right over the usb.
I had a similar problem. When the icon comes up plugged in, yank the battery out and shove it back in.
If that doesn't work, when plugged in take the battery out, unplug the phone, put the battery back in, and then plug it in.
It worked for me!

OK guys, it came back again. The issue is not resolved. Perhaps a battery failure?
I waited for my battery to completely run out. Then charged it all the way up. Then a simple battery pull out and in takes it down to around 80% ?!
Strange stuff here.

Sounds like a very delicate procedure xD
it seems i am the only one with this issue :/
Sounds like the battery just isn't being calibrated correctly.
Let it drain fully and then take it out and put it back in. Chances are it'll turn back on. Let it drain again until it shuts off and then charge fully while the phone is off.

Probably your USB got polluted or bended.
i also think it is a usb issue. i updated the original post. By the way before i returned it for a replacement i tried using a qtip and "contact cleaner" and sprayed some on the usb. After 30 mins i was able to charge normally before it was acting up again.
Bottom line: clean your usb.
Cheers a bunch for your replies! Gonna clean my usb again & carefully "bend" it down a bit. I'll post the results later

I cannot disagree more. This is the most fantastic phone I've ever had. Feel free to check my signature. I've had worse. Haha. Much worse. This phone has only lagged twice in the months I've had it and I had to do a battery pull once. I've had my iPhone 4 crash more times than this phone.

I've had charging problems with my SGS2 as well. All of a sudden it started switching tap&talk on and off. Turned very warm and drained the battery juice.
When I attached the charger, it didn't show signs of recognizing that it was attached. I tried to switch it off, and on again with cable connected. Then it started charging, but if I unplugged and tried again it failed again.
So I had to send my beloved SGS2 for service. Now heading on to two weeks without it, i'm growing desperate from having to spend the time with my old Samsung Spica.
Have a look at the charge port problem thread in general. Few of us have had this problem for various reasons.

i also have a kind of similar problem on my S2, suddenly it stopped charging, when i plug it in i tries to start up but isn't able to & then restarts.
i get the normal battery sign when you plug it in after the battery completely dies (no thermometer), nor does the phone or battery gets hot. is there any solution or should i just take it to a service centre? BTW my phone is rooted & loaded with a custom ROM.

Tab Thinks That It Is Charging, But Is Not Plugged In

For some reason my tab thinks that it is charging (i have a lightning bolt in the battery icon in the botton right hand corner, when i go into tab info it says "Charging AC", and when i bring it to the unlock screen it has the batter % and "charging" underneath it. However, i do not have the orange or white charging/ charged light on the power button.
Does anybody know why this is happening to my tablet and what i can do to correct it.
I have tried plugging it in and charging it, resetting to factory defaults etc but nothing helps.
Thanks,
Mike.
Wowzer !!!
if the system think that it's getting juice... you might be the owner of the tablet that never die and lasts forever... LOL
see the positive side to things
J/K ... someone will come along with help and answer
maybe you could try and re-flash it with the latest full rom ??
i wish it never did, however the battery % continues to reduce.
I am not yet rooted so I cannot reflash.
I have spent a couple hours talking to Acer today, they have told me to ring high level support haha.
Just my luck eh
Took the tab back to office depot and got a replacement no problem
Lost my screen protector though
Mine does this as well.
The icons are all indicative of charging and yet, it's not plugged in.
I thought the upgrade to 3.1 from 3.0.1 would fix that but it did not.
Mine no longer does this. I think it needed a full charge to "set" the battery or to calibrate the charge detection software.
I dunno, all I know is that after the tab finally got a full overnight charge while it was turned off - suddenly this issue is no longer.
Same goes for the touch screen not responding while the tab was plugged in. That issue is gone as well.

[Q] Samsung Tab 7.7 - Battery Life & Warnings

Hi there, I purchased my 7.7 Tab 3 weeks ago. Loved it as expected. I've got few concerns about the battery though. Hope someone can share solutions / experiences with me.
The battery life isn't so impressive as I heard about from reviews and all. It lasts hardly 48 hours after a full charging with no real use for more than 30 minutesx2 times within less than 48 hours. However, it was connected to WiFi all the time and was syncing as well (but on standby all the time). Now another bugging problem is that when I plug the charger after the battery having completely drained and the device is turned off by itself (before completing 48 hours), the screen shows a warning logo first instead of the charging icon. The warning logo has warning sign and the icon of a drained battery with a red color at the bottom of it. I do not know what does that mean. I just know that when that appears, the device is not charging at all. I have unplugged and plugged it back 3 times to get it charging again. So far, it happened two times and I am sure it will happen again but I just want to know whether this is the sign of an unhealthy battery or any other parts of the device? This happened to anyone else? Your feedback is welcome and well appreciated.

sometimes... the cable is the culprit... a damage cable will gave the same error... btw.. it is not advisable to really drain the battery dry before charge it... but that just my opinion... just try to check the cable... and if there is anyone around you that having the same cable... test to charge your device with their charger...

First of all, you may not want to have left the battery completely drained, as this might damage the battery. Secondly, since your battery is completely drained, some undercurrent protection mechanisms must be activated, and there should have enough input current before the battery could be charged again. The data cable should not have enough current to charge up the battery at this state, it is lucky for you that you got it charging again after three trials.
If you drained up the battery again, it's recommended to charge it up with the AC charger.

Battery issues

My phone's battery level is stuck at 35% and doesn't change on charging it over and over again. Left the phone charging last night and it was still charging at 35% in the morning. However if there's a drop below 35% level it shows on the screen but again charging the phone drains complete battery within a minute or two. The phone gets switched off and starts charging from 0. On switching it on sometimes it again starts draining the battery fast or stuck at some another battery level. Please help what should i do.
I tried reflashing rr rom freshly but it didn't solve the issue. Twrp recovery shows the same battery %.
Screen recorded as below.

Charger or phone faulty, either requires exchange under warranty, take it you are using cable and charger supplied with phone.
Do a factory reset just in case something has screwed up the OS, trying to charge with the phone switched off usually will confirm whether hardware or software problem, ie will not charge when off says its hardware.

I left the phone on charge last night in switch off mode but the battery level shows only 10% in the morning. Internally however it's charged 100% but the level is not showing correctly. Also since I've unlocked the bootloader, the device isn't under warranty.
what a weird battery behaviour!!
Whenever I start charging my phone using stock charger, it drains the battery within minutes instead of charging. Once the battery is completely drained out the battery starts charging from 0% and after a full night of being plugged into the charger it shows partially charged at different level when it's switched on even though it's full.
Is there no way to troubleshoot this or the right way to calibrate the battery?

Not yet, only solution is getting the battery replaced. Now I've learnt to live with it, since the mobile needs to be restarted after every charge and the % gets stuck at some random value despite being fully charged.

I'll ask for replacement after Christmas holidays. Thank you very much.
I do also have the same problem. It just started a few days ago and sometimes I'd restart the phone and it will fix it and show the actual percentage been charged. But now that isn't fixing it anymore. However, as mentioned before the battery is actually being charged. So let's say it's stuck in 11% and I charge it for a few hours. Then I can use the phone for hours without going below 11%.. but how annoying when it gets there and all of a sudden you are running out of battery ?
Charging with original charger/cable. Do you guys think it might have to do with the turbopower feature?
Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm still under warranty for two more months. But it's always a pain to deal with warranty, you know no phone for a week or more... It would be nice if it can be fixed without going through warranty.
