Hi,
So here's what I want to do:
I have a folder on my pc with files in it. I want that to sync that with a Cloud storage type system online. Then I want a folder on my Touch Pro 2 to sync with that online folder. Now I know what your thinking and before you flame me with stuff like dropbox, sugarsync, mesh, myphone etc... they can't do that. They sync from pc to online just fine, but then on the tp2 I have to navigate to the web to retrieve files, or with sugarsync there is an app to install and I can load the app and download the files to a folder that way. I don't want to do that. I want a folder to always stay sync'd. I've search all over and can't find that kind of functionality. This would be real handy in a scenario where i need to constantly sync 5 or more phones together with multiple pc's. I don't want to tell the user, ok go to www.getdropbox.com or load this or load that...
I hope I am just missing something and it does exsist.
Live Mesh does exactly what you are talking about. Just leave it running if you need it constantly updated rather than just when you run it. That is the exact purpose of Live Mesh...

Unless i missed something, then it only works that way if your able to install mesh and sign in on your phone. I didnt think they were accepting anymore ppl for testing on mobile devices. I installed it and checked just to see. Without this, your forced to grab files from the web.
I can't get the live mesh program to work on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. It lets me enter my login info and then crashes while logging in. Is there something I'm missing?

No clue about why it would crash. It doesn't matter anyway, you can't use it. It's closed to new people.
Anyone have any thoughts about the actual topic of this thread? There has to be a way... No one needs to do this?!

It's not closed. You just need to activate your mesh account for windows mobile which involves clicking on a specific link. I did it and I got the client installed and working. Works great! But wouldn't want to deviate from the actual topic of this thread...

How would that be deviating? If there is a way to get into Mesh and it's not closed, that would potentially directly solve the original post.

I will report if this works. Thanks!
it definitely worked for me. you'll see that windows mobile becomes an option in your mesh after visiting this link. but getting the program to validate on your device (touch pro 2) is hit or miss. i just had to try it many times and finally it worked. then there is also an issue of the program crashing upon startup that i mentioned above. i've narrowed that down to being related to the memory card. the program will start if i remove the memory card prior to executing it. i can then put the memory card back in while the program is in the login screen and it works. still trying to find a better solution. let me know if you have any luck.

Been playing with it all night. So far it's working flawlessly. No crashes at all. I have a 8gb storage card. It's sync'd to and from 1 other verizon phones, and 4 pc's... It's cool, you take a pic with your phone and voila it's on my wife's phone too, as well as the mobile picture directory at home. Would love to help you get it working too. Have you checked out this forum?
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/threads
You can also use Remote Touch. It doesn't sync, but it does allow you to transfer files remotely, back and forth from your desktop and your phone. And of course, you get the added benefit of controlling your desktop remotely with your phone.
When I'm in a hurry to leave the office I'll queue a bunch of files in RemoteTouch and have my phone download them while I'm on the road.

Can you tell me the exact phone you have? Is it the Verizon touch pro 2? Maybe it's my brand of memory card? It's definitely good when it's working.
Also, did you have any trouble validating the phone on the mesh? Took me several attempts and it seems other people had the same issue. I have been to the site you linked a little bit but maybe more research is in order.

can you tell me if the live mesh client is running robustly on your touch pro2? i had tons of crashes the last time i messed with this. haven't tried it since. most of the problems i had are documented in this thread.
For the op, there is a Schaps Network plugin, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67564. It may do what you want, too. Not sure. Just making a suggestion.

No, I certainly couldn't say "robustly." It's more like "haphazardly."

All that ranting, but no information as to what is actually going on. Are you getting an error message? FC?
Still getting ads.....
AFAIK, adfree simply adds a hosts file with the add servers in it, in which case you are seeing adds because either the servers changed or there are new ad servers that haven't been added yet. Devs need incentive to do the work they do, so just be happy that you can even get good apps for free and deal with it.

An app is only as good as it works. I have run into the same issue as the op recently. Also I'm getting real tired of reading these smart ass remarks at the end of posts here to just like yours. Its unnecessary!
hey.. try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919040
The above methods seem to work for me. I've never used adfree btw...
There is something odd going on with hosts. I have the same problem as you that ads continue. I have traced mine to the fact that the hosts file is continually overlaid by the default blank one. It appears there is some component that continually scans this and wipes it.
I posted this problem a couple months ago but never got a response. The best I did was install GScript Lite and create a script to copy my saved off version of the ad-free hosts file back over the real one. It is not a good solution but the only one I have. I suppose the ultimate solution would be a different ROM. But that would just trade the problem I understand for an unknown number of ones I don't.

i dont use adfree
ive never had an ad using this hosts file
extract it from the zip, and put it in system/etc
enjoy
Has anyone tried enabling the AdFree option to symlink to /local/data (I think? forgot the exact path it gives in the app). I use that and have never experienced any problems with this on Ice Glacier.
It works for me, perhaps its a device specific problem.

While I somewhat agree with your post, I agree with jdkoren's more. All of the apps you are blocking ads for were free, free because of the ads that help fund the development of the apps. So I think he's just saying, if you can't block the ads, accept it, you have all those apps at no cost... Everything we experience, this forum, these custom ROMs, market apps, all took great amounts of time and effort, I think sometimes we lose sight of that when we think about open source projects.
Does anyone have any solid suggestion for this?
I used to use InstaFetch Lite which pulled articles from Instapaper however now it only pulls 10 articles (I have 700+ in there) and does not support folders. Instapaper itself has an app now however it is a paid app and I do not have a credit card (WHEN is google going to sell topup cards like apple does?? *sob*). I tried "Read Later" another instapaper app but it just hangs and does not sync properly.
I have used the export feature to export to various formats and read on the Nook. However the formatting is not good, you don't link to each article like you would from within the app, instead it's basically just a very big ebook.
So I thought I'd look at Pocket instead. The app is really well done and it's a solid product but it requires 2.2 and up. The Nook, at least mine, is 2.1 I think... is there another version of Android that I can put on here that will make Pocket app work?
Or does anyone have any other alternatives? Folders or tags and offline reading are what I need.
I was looking for something like this early - found nothing.
Will keep an eye on this thread tho...
Manual Install of Read It Later
Try searching on the internet for a "read it later" .apk file of the version before it became pocket, and install it manually. The older version is compatible, and runs fine on the nook.
- NewsRob, gReader, Instafetch and even syncing things like email only need intermittent connectivity so you can get your articles and then carry them elsewhere when offline. Need a better offline article sync app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1811873

I guess evernote and a clipper firefox addon might do it but evernote screws with the battery so would need freeze & refreeze every time you want to use it...

-Goodreads
-Mantano
-Speed Reader
-gReader

gReader works great! But it's a rss reader and I am wanting something for reading articles that I saved FROM gReader (or wherever) to read at another time. I follow 100+ sites in gReader, I'm not sure how I would save and organize articles for reading later. Open to ideas though!
The rest of your list are just eReader apps which is not what I was looking for but in the interest of complete info:
Mantano worked GREAT when I tried it. I was so excited! Then the next day it crashed and despite a reboot, and a reinstall I can't import books into it now without it crashing so it's useless.
Documents 2 Go I can't try because I don't have a damn credit card so I can't use paid apps.
Goodreads installed...and I signed up for an account...but I can't figure out how to read books I already have on sd card.
Speed Reader is...weird. It shows ONE word at a time lol
----
The folks at Pocket suggested this service to me which lets you create custom epub files from your pocket items:
http://reading2ebook.com/pocket/choose
It's not ideal, as you can't mark the articles read one by one but at least it is a workaround that works.
From there I read it in either the native Nook ereading app or Cool Reader which is (so far) a eReader app that not only works on the Nook but also allows a person to make notes, highlight, share, etc in an easier way than the Nook's native app.
-----
I would still LOVE a solution if anyone has one. I am trying to figure out the read it later apk stuff in the meantime...
Instapaper's "Send to Kindle" function; buying w/o credit card
(Interested lurker speaking. I don't have a NST, but a rooted Sony PRS-T1, which is similar, but running Android 2.2. Please take what I say with a grain of salt.)
If you have a version of the Kindle app for Android running on your ereader, you could try experimenting with Instapaper's "Send to Kindle" function.
Personally, I am quite happy with InstaFetch Pro. If your only problem with buying it is the lack of a credit card, you could try finding another market that accepts the kind of payment you have. They also appear to sell licenses via PayPal directly from instafetch.com.
Instapaper + Calibre + Dropsync = Bliss
There is a Calibre recipe for Instapaper that I use and it works very well. I have it set up to pull my instapaper articles into an Epub file and then have it stored on my dropbox. I bought DropSync Pro and manually sync my Nook Simple Touch with that dropbox.
To save on battery, I only manually sync with dropbox - I suppose a person could schedule it for every morning or something.
The only downside is that I have to manually delete articles form my Instapaper account - if I don't do this regularly I get confused whether or not I've read the article. I suppose I could find an instapaper app for the NST to do this from my device if I wanted to.
Also, Instapaper has a great "save to epub" that you can do manually... if you're not too excited about setting up a Calibre instance running 24/7 on a machine...

You can use Tasker to turn on wifi and sync at specific times. Dropsync Pro provides a plugin that can be called by Tasker. I set up a timed event to trigger at 6:00 AM every day, turn on wifi and wait for a connection. If connected, it will keep wifi on for 2 minutes and launch Dropsync to sync changes. It works very well on my 2 NST devices, using only minimal power for wifi during the actual sync.
I also set Tasker to only turn on wifi when needed by specific apps.
With everyone's input the problems importing PDFs have been identifed as a bug in certain versions of S-Note. The list is below. Trying to load a newer version of the S-Note APK doesn't work because there's other associated files that need to be updated. So the good news is we know what's going on. The bad news is that those affected need to wait for Samsung to push out an updated ROM with a newer version of S-Note. Hopefully that'll be JB in a couple of weeks. If someone with or without issues has a different version of S-Note post it so I can keep the list updated so people can see whether their version has the bug or not.
Different S-Note versions and their results:
5r8988V03 - Works
5r9077V03 - Works
5r9292V03 - Has issues
5r9830V03 - Has issues

Ok so, the pdfs I was trying to open were handouts from college, so I don't know what program was used. But they are powerpoint slides (or other program that can do presentations) converted to pdf.
They are around 25-30 slides long (one slide per page), 1-1,5 mb, text and images, with color.
I'm able to open them with polaris, although in one of them the special characters are not recognized (I also don't know what's up with that, when I open it in other apps the special characters show fine and polaris doesn't have problems with special characters with the other files).
My version of SNote is 5r9292V03. I'm using the N8000 model, international.
I also should add that the pdfs were downloaded directly from the stock browser and are stored in the tablet itself. Later, I'm going to put them on a micro sd and try to import them from there.
In the other thread you asked me to send you the pdfs, but they have my teachers name on there :/ i'll find other pdf (i tried with a cientific article from google scholar iand it wouldn't import it too). How do I send it to you?

Hey, just wanted to add to the thread by saying that I have the same version of SNote as Cocax and I also have the same problems.
Also got the N8000 international version.
My S-Note version is also 5r9292V03. Most PDFs I've tried to import are also college notes and they all open in other pdf viewers such as Polaris or ezPDF.

Interesting results. The PPT file imported fine and I could edit and re-save it. The other document imported fine also but it showed as seven blank pages. I tried to open it in eBook and it crashed. Using ezPDF Reader it opened. I printed it and scanned it in to a PDF using Nitro. S-Note then imported it fine.
To get the PPT file in to S-Note I downloaded it from Dropbox to my external SD card and then went in to S-Note and found it using "import." Did you do the same thing? If so, there's something different between our S-Note versions. That or you may have something else running on your device that's creating a conflict. Below is the link to the Nitro scan of your document in Dropbox. Download it and see if you can open it.

I have had no issues at all with pdf but thought I would try these two. I have the same results as you do here with the one file being blank My s nove version is 5r12434FV03
Note is US 8013
For those having issues... In S-Note's app settings do a force stop, clear cache, and clear data to see if it changes anything. Save anything you might have in S-Note somewhere on your SD in case it gets blown away.
It crashed the same way as before with your scan. It starts to import the pages and when it reaches the last one (right before when it's supposed to open) the circle stops spinning and after like 2 secs it fc...I don't have a micro sd card wwith me right now, but tomorrow I'll try to import from one

Here's my guess so for. My version is the original shipped version (Brazil) and hasn't been updated and I'm not having any issues. The latest version which is also included in today's U.S. update isn't having any issues either. So it would appear the middle version has some type of bug. I don't know if that's the version that was in the earlier U.S. update that was pulled but that may have been one of the reasons they stopped deploying it. So the good news is it's a temporary problem. The bad news is there's not much that can be done until Samsung pushes out an update. With them saying JB is due “very soon” and the SGS3 already receiving it I’d guess we’ll get it in about five weeks or so.
There will always be some funkiness with certain PDF files because of formatting type stuff but that's pretty much the nature of the beast. Your document coming up blank in S-Note and crashing Adobe eBook being an example. I'm sure Samsung wouldn't have wasted their time developing their own PDF engine so the code's probably licensed from someone else. Managing PDF's via s/w isn't rocket science so I'd assume updates will get S-Note to where it needs to be.
At least we know we aren’t all crazy and the one’s saying it “worked” were right as well as the one’s saying it didn’t.

Is your S-Note version 5r9292V03? If so it probably won't be fixed until Samsung rolls out an update.
Just want to add another s-note version, 5r8988V03, 8010 16GB, Mexico shipped version, I haven't had fc's importing pdf just some color changes and special char not showing.
Tried the two files uploaded by Cocax and got same results as BarryH_GEG, ppt imported ok and 7 blank pages.

Yeah, it seems to be a problem with our version of SNote. That actually makes me kind of relieved, because it means that it will probably be updated and hopefully solved. My biggest concern was that this was a more obscure problem, some kind of confict between something that we couldn't figure out that only happened with some of us and it would stay that way even with jelly bean. But as you said, it's probable that samsung is already aware of this issue since what appears to be the latest version doesn't have it.
I guess I'll wait for jelly bean then and hope it will solve this issue. Still, I'm going to try to have more people coming here to say their version and if they have this problem.
Thanks so, so much for your help

Também compraste agora com a promoção dos 30%? Ou já o tens à mais tempo?
Não sei se já o fizeste mas se não o fizeste, passa pela zwame que há lá tópico dedicado para o nosso tablet e já somos uma meia dúzia com o note.
Later I'll try your pdf's on my note 10.1.
Did you also bought Galaxy Note on the 30% discount we had in Portugal last weekend?
DELETED
I currently use 1.1.0 and wonder what features or benefits are there to updating to 1.2.1?
Much better Dictionary
The biggest benefit to the 1.2.1 upgrade is the greatly improved stock dictionary.
I haven't looked at the new dictionary that closely.
The old one was 50 odd Megs, the new one is too.
Do you mean that all the errors with PDF char entities and spacing were fixed?
The old one had 86196 root words, the new one has 86301.

I currently use 1.1.0 and wonder what features or benefits are there to updating to 1.2.1?

I haven't looked at the new dictionary that closely.

Yes, the formatting was fixed and you can now search for a word, but only after calling the dictionary up by long pressing a word in the book you are reading. I have attached a photograph of the stock dictionary from 1.2.1.
'Sigh'...
I was hopping to see wireless channels from 10 to 13 in this update...
Guess my old theory of "if it isn't tottaly broken, then don't fix it" works, after all!

Then I have to make a new update to nookdict which will less invasively re-format the entries.
I see that they did clean up a lot of stuff, but there is still a bunch of gratuitous stuff.
I still prefer my Lookup app which gives you real browse and access to other dictionaries.

I really like your lookup app also and in fact have it installed. But because I have many B&N books ("purchased" for free) that will not open in the modified Reader, I stay with the stock reader and then use your Lookup app when I need to use a dictionary like a dictionary instead of just looking up one word while reading. I would switch to using your Lookup app integrated into the Reader if I could figure out how to sign it so that it would open my B&N DRMed books. My other thought was to find a way to have both the absolutely stock and a modified stock reader installed at the same time so I could use the modified one with your Lookup app for non-DRM content and the absolutely stock reader for DRMed content. I don't think this is possible with out very significant work though.

V1.2.1 does indeed support WiFi channels 1-13 by default.
That's great then!!!!
I've been searching arround but haven't found concise and agregated information on which changes/fixes/etc are in this 1.2.x.
Is there any post there, or can you please post the changes?
Thanks!
