I know it's not really related but Im getting frustrated.
Is it possible to install CM7 on the primary partition and use stock 1.2 on the 2nd using only the internal memory?
I don't know how to do it cause CM7 always installs on the 2nd partition.
Using CWR, is there a option where it asks you on which partition to install what ROM?
I've read the dualboot thread but I'm really stuck.
Thanks
Here is the deal:
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1050520
Download the rom the KEEPS cwm.
Flash that.
Now boot into cwm and flash this rom:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20480343/ecl...hable-v0.2.zip
Now flash custom rom to first partition.
Dun!

Hi, I hav done exactly the way you described - used phiremod 6.1 as latest step.
But after flashing phiremod 6.1 nothing works (stock and p-mod just stops at the load logo.
do you have some hints?
-dualboot with stock 1.2 is working (before flashing primary)
-before starting to flash stock 1.2 I deleted syystem , data and cache - after not.
First the links are not working from your quote. Second I don't want phiremod but CM7
I just tried to install CM7 and CM9 using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375156 using the latest build from Epsylon3 dated 14th May. I am on the Froyo kernel and already had CM7 stable installed. Everything goes smoothly until I reboot using 2nd boot (version 0.5.5). When 2nd boot opens up I press the power button on the first option that shows up on the screen i.e CM9 since I have named the folder in /root/multiboot/CM9 in my SD card. But instead of loading up CM9 it opens up my main ROM CM7 with all my apps and data from that ROM. I don't know what I am doing wrong, the phone's loading the same ROM both in 2nd boot and 2nd init. I tried to delete CM9 by removing the folder I mentioned and re-installed the ROM again but still it opens up CM7. Any ideas?
P.S. If I install ICS as my main ROM by removing CM7 can I go back to CM7? I didn't properly understood how CG versioning work. Does it apply to kernels (I have the same kernel I had before installing CM7, T-Mobile UK's 2.2.2) or ROMs. When flashing CM or any ROM, is this process supposed to change my kernel?
Hey !
I have a Motorola Defy that uses Android 2.2.2 Froyo and I'm a bit lost.
I recently discovered the Custom ROMs and I want to install one on my device. CyanogenMod 9.
But I also want to keep my original ROM (just in case I have issues with CM9).
I read MultiBoot is an app that allow multibooting. Does it work with the original ROM ?
Thank you for your help.
yes cm9 can be multibooted with stock froyo
Follow these simple manual steps (no need of any app)
Root your device
Install 2ndinit
install cwm bootmenu
Install multiboot.zip by stable recovery( search a bit for this)
Place fsimages folder in root of sdcard( search this too)
Install cm9 nightly( in your case use froyo kernel nightly) by latest/custom recovery
Reboot and open bootmenu ( by pressing vol down on blue led)
Select boot - 2nd boot, your phone will restart with cm9
Before flaming me and telling me to search, rest assured I've read all 100+ pages of the original thread on multiboot.

I have a Defy green lense running rooted stock Froyo and 2nd init 2.0 with the CWM 5.0.3.1 bootmenu. I want to run multiboot 0.8 with stock ROM as nand and a custom ROM on the virtual (SD card). What I'm not sure about is whether I can safely install multiboot with this version of CWM bootmenu, as I don't see "latest" or "stable recovery". All I have is "stock recovery" and "custom recovery".
Some posts say multiboot will add these options, others say update CWM first before flashing multiboot's zip.
Any helpful suggestions?
Hi there mate.....I wanted to know if someone has been able to installed and successfully used multiboot with 2nd boot ROMs ... Has any solution been found already ??

Well, I used this multiboot.
The answer is YES, it works fine, Just Need Flash on CWM the last multiboot ZIP file.
Stock is Motorola factory recovery. latest or stable means too Custom. This is because before you can get CWM o TWRP as CustomRecovery on your DEFY. Actually you can get Both.

I just want let clear: "This Multiboot does not work with CustomKernel" so the CustomRom must be a bit old, because must be running wYour correct version of Kernel (Froyo or Ginger on 525 or 526 Respectivelly).
Actually thanks to Walter79 that Found a New DualBoot Method but ths function only is available with SD-Card Partitioning operation
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275502
(Sorry my bad English, Im Beginner on the 2nd Language)
No matter what ROM I load, my green-lens Defy gets stuck on the Moto logo and recovery is no longer accessible, requiring a full SBF to restore. I've tried starting with US TMo 2.1 as well as CEE 2.2.2, and after loading the SBF, I root with either SuperOneClick v2.3.1, or Framaroot, then install 2ndInit 2.3, and then disable USB debug. Up to this point, everything works great and CWM is fully accessible on boot. But attempting to load any custom ROM will result in the stuck moto logo and recovery no longer accessible. I've tried all the wipes before and after installing ROMs, including the defy_fullwipe script, and factory reset. Also tried reformatting the SD. Any ideas??? I can't think of what to try next.
This all started when I recently decided to try MS2Ginger5.1, after successfully running CM7.x for years. MS2Ginger refused to install, so I read that TWRP was needed, so I loaded defy_twrp_recovery_2.6.3.0, and retried MS2Ginger5.1. The installation seemed to proceed and complete normally, however, ever since, my Defy gets stuck Moto logo and no recovery access after loading any ROM, including CM7.2.
Thanks for suggestions - this may be the end of the road for my trusty Defy :crying:
Since when do you need to install twrp 2.3.6.0 in order to install a gingerbread rom? Install the last version of 2ndinit then install msginger, or if you update to twrp 2.3.6.0 flash a kitkat rom

Right, TWRP is definitely NOT required to install MS2Ginger, it was just a suggestion which worked for somebody else. I did also try installing kitkat from TWRP (Slim 4.4.2.build.4), but same problem, install seemed to complete normally, but after restarting, stuck at the Moto logo and no recovery
There's something you're doing wrong, your defy is not messed up, maybe if you follow the kitkat guide im the General Section just to try, you can get your phone working

Followed Quarx's KitKat post and Proverbs2's FAQ to a T, for both CM11 and SlimKat, but neither would boot. In both cases, the ROM would install successfully according to TWRP, and the CM11 or Slim recovery screen would load on reboot, but choosing the option to continue booting, the screen just went black and nothing. The good thing, is that upon restart, it was still possible to enter recovery, so I was able to try several ROMs thanks to safewipe, but nothing would boot after installation. Even so, I eventually ended up back at the stuck Moto Logo and had to RSDlite the CEE full SBF. I have flashed a lot of ROMs over the years, so I don't think I'm doing something wrong, but maybe...
Does starting with a full SBF guarantee there's not some kind of issue with the formatting of /system?
Have you tried with the nordic sbf? It's quite strange because you can run the stock flash without issues.
I know you already followed the guides and everything, but I'm gonna tell you my steps:
1. Flash sbf with rsdlite (in my case it's a bl7 2.3 miui based, already rooted)
2. Flash twrp recovery 2.6.3.0
3. safewipe.zip
4. Flash CM11, boot, then flash gapps.
Maybe your problem could be because of your sbf, here is the nordic sbf, android 2.2.2

That's all I can help you mate

SOLVED!
OMG, I had just about given up, but the microSD card I was using was at fault. The offending card was a Sandisk Ultra, 16GB HC1. I've been using that Sandisk card in an HD camcorder for months without issue, but for whatever reason the card is not compatible with the Defy during the flashing process. I switched to an 8GB Kingston Class 4, and everything's working again. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions; hopefully this thread will help somebody else.
