Feelings about it. - XPERIA X8 General

Hello, who is from here when developing starts? when there was no GSM, no camera etc .. They was other feelings, it was something special, now that feelings are gone , those times were much speshal. I personally have been 3-5 times bootloops, I did not even know what it is , I remember the first time when a tryed new ROM lawful, it was one of 2.2 of course no wipe and u know what happened Time when appeared dualtouch, aaah, now WE HAVE almost all, nothing new and surprising. Today I live on FireDroid 2.3 and nAa 13, by far the best combination. Now only remains to be seen from the nAa JB rom Write your feelings of this and all other .

FireDroid 2.3

I came close to the beginning.
And i was waiting for update of minicm9 to 3.0.1

Well, I remember times when racht was here... Porting Froyo, awesome Sense ROMs, days without OC, UV, no pinch-to-zoom, then dx came with his pinch-to-zoom module, everybody was excited (except cypress users lol), times when Blagus was working on BL unlock for a long time without succes, then the_laser came with tool for unlocking...
Back then I was flashing ROMs just to try them and because of the awesome feeling that you can try something new... But now there are loads of diferrent ROMs, most of them are just themed... I really miss old times

Wish i had my w8 back then..

I came here, when racht were here, too. It was amazing everyday i checked for updates and i learned a lot since these days.
Like said before dx came and changed a lot. Blagus is a amazing dude, too. He and the others did a lot until the magic day the_laser came.
Sometimes i miss the old days, there were no only-themed roms etc.

I was straight from start, when development just started.
Yeah, there isnt any excitement when installing a rom.now...everything just works.

I'm a bit of an off case. I was here when everything was working (but slightly prone to crashes and stuff) but was here before custom kernels were a must ahhhh the memory of just flashing a ROM and not needing to switch between 5 different kernels just for one ROM...and there was always that fear of getting a soft brick and not being able to access recovery due to the corrupt system PCC to the rescue

Ive got here around y ear ago, there werent such things as custom kernels and cypress dualtouch modules.
First i wanted to overlock my X8 on stock rom and kernel an realised that it was only stable on 691 and the perfomance Boost
was imperceptible:cyclops:
Then i come back after some months and saw the custom kernels

We are able to boot custom kernels now!
Anyway... this is the first release of the fully working custom kernel (flashable via xRecovery). I haven't had much time to work on it so it's kind of proof-of-concept. Tested for 48h without any problem (not even a reboot).
FreeKernel-alpha1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d8v914keiqsmc3n
This is the alpha version of custom 2.6.29 kernel based on the SE sources. I do not plan to work on this release anymore - it is just for testing purpose. From today on I'll start to port SE stuff to the latest (GBread) kernel.
Changes:
- removed 32 fps cap
- implemented netfilter (Droid wall, native USB/wifi tethering etc.)
- undervolted to 0.950mV to save battery
- don't remember what else I did, I bet something nasty
- super ugly boot logo!
Requirements:
- baseband .52 + the relevant kernel
- clean 2.1 ROM, compatibile with .52 baseband (e.g. .504)
- working xRecovery
Please note I am not responsible for any damage this software may cause to your device! Use it at your own risk!
There is absolutely no support for this alpha release!
Click to collapse
So, if you want to test this new kernel, please keep in mind it is only compatible with stock 2.1 firmwares (.504 and above) that are compatible with baseband 52.
It is only for testing purposes, and any feedback for this alpha kernel is purely for the benefit of others, Z is not and will not be supporting this version, do not expect it to be ready for daily use!
Please post your results and how you get on with the kernel.
Video of FreeKernel
http://vimeo.com/21838810
does anyone know how to embed it?
I tested the kernel on baseband .46 on TripNMIUI 0.3.2, and the removal of the FPS cap is incredible, the phone is so much smoother and fluid it is unbelievable - it is like having a new phone. I noticed the screen feels a lot more responsive aswell!.
Obviously it is not at all compatible with the ROM, there is no radio and there are frequent reboots, but just a taster in terms of things to come
Apologies for the poor video, but I think its enough to get the general gist of the smoothness
Tried custom kernel just for kicks on trips miui 3.2...bb 54 and up super unstable no network/wifi tons of reboots....
bb 52 and bb49 no network but wifi IS working no sd card mount though
gonna test other roms aswell....
For install custom kernel to be need xrec by Z not from flashtool.
All works, clean install bb 2.0.46 and 2.0.A.0.504.
Dont problems.
I done back to my custom rom way xrec and flashed the patch bb.49, nothing problem.
cheers
this will not work on bb .46 i have tried and failed. no network at all. have tried on several roms... only eternity roms are working on this kernel on bb .52....
supposedly it is suppose to work with bb .49 have not tested on this bb so i cant say for sure.
guaranteed on .52 build 504...
results on quadrant show fps cap has been removed.
overclock is not possible but undervolting is
colors have not yet changed but should upon release of other custom kernels
Can I brick my x10 with this or only bootloop it (because bootloop is fixable with SEUS)
will this work with freex10 and can anyone give me a link to the main thread where zdhihu posted this? i can't find it. thanks.

You can't brick it as you only flash some files to the system, and you should still be able to access xrecovery if it bootloops
THIS IS ONLY USABLE WITH STOCK 2.1 ON. 52 BASEBAND!!!
This is a test kernel not meant as anything more than a proof of concept. There is absolutely no reason to flash this unless you are personally working on making your own custom kernels. This kernel is not even an alpha release, it will never be developed or supported. If you choose to flash it just to toy around don't whine about functionality.
When custom kernels are available anything the hardware is capable of and drivers can be written for will be possible. Everyone needs to calm down and quit asking the same questions over and over.

No. Z posted it in the bootloader cracking thread. This is only meant for stock 2.1 FW on. 49-.52 BB and is not functional for daily use. This is only meant as a test if you want a stable new kernel its still going to take a little while.

It won't work with any ROM 100% - its just designed for testing, you won't be able to use it for daily use yet.
If you just want to try it out, its possible it will boot up on freex10 and you will see the effects of not having a FPS cap - but it is unlikely the majority of things will work, like radio etc. as it is meant for stock 2.1 roms.
If you do want to try it, make a backup on xrecovery first
I dont know what you have xD
What do you mean with "its not ready for dayly use" ?
I use it now since yesterday afternoon and everything works perfect!
I had no random reboots and everything is very smooth!
My Battery lost 1 % with stable 1 Ghz (playing around and testing).
So not be scared! flash it!

As in its only supported by the stock 2.1 ROM, and if you run into any problems with it, its not being supported so you won't get a fix
so for example if i install this kernel on my freex10, how can i remove it later if i have problems with it?

Bootloader is the part of the phone that checks files when you try to update it, so it makes sure that the software you're installing is from sony...For now it has only been bypassed a bit through Xrecovery(that means we have custom ROM but no custom kernel....) . What we're waiting for is complete bootloader crack and we're very close...soon we'll have gingerbread and froyo with no problems + Dualtouch
How can u be sure that we ll get dualtouch?

I think using Costume ROM is better option for now. Better than Eclair from SE. you can install many app. Even there some bugs and problems, many developer there to fix this. So just wait to fix better than wait forever from SE.

It's better for some things.
But it does have a completely unworking camera [neither pics or videos], disabled FM, SD safe to remove reboots, and some other bug.
I also have this custom rom installed, because I have a Sony Alpha A-55 to shot some pics and don't ever need the X8 one... but this doesn't let me say that stock eclair is worst than any other custom kernel.
AFAIK, there is not a 100% full working custom rom til now.
The one and only rom which is 100% working is SE stock rom..

You'll never get the official Froyo from Sony..
They won't build one for X8..
The only way to get one is from custom ROMS..
Try elelinux v3, it's the most stable froyo rom.. No bugs at all.. Even for the rooted apps..

May be I'm not required any more ????
But still need ideas
I think u must join zdzihu in ICS rom
Yeah a stable fully working ICS would be very good. Zdzihu is abroad and have not enough tools and time there so any dev helping would speed up the Development alot. I think 4.0 is very good and we all should help with our knowledge to get it working.

I haven't change the stock ROM, since it was released (I used to flash froyo and eclair roms once a week, now Kernels only).
Simply in my opinion, stock SE rom is finer than any MIUI or AOSP roms
Why don't you develop a new more advanced kernel for 2.3.7 - 4.0.1. Many believe that the 2.6.29 Kernel is holding things back.

Needing a little advice myself in terms of AOSP if you can help?
Anyway Goro is already Porting Xperia 2011 Kernel to x10
2.6.32.9 and has it booting so its kinda unnecessary at the minute
Maybe just make your AOSP perfect
The only thing missing from x10 right now is sense... I know you've tried it and its hard but there are ppl out there who have had it working on x8 sgs2 and other devices, maybe get some advice and give it another shot?? The amount of testers will be huge if you get it working mate

Pl. nobodyAtall, create a version for stock

Dear nAa.
I have seen your awesome work for x8. But I have a grouse. Pl create a ROM for stock. There are hundreds of us who can't unlock their bootloader.
nAa has stated that he won't really bother much about stock kernel anymore. Does this really need a new thread? Nope, as it has been requested hundreds of times and the reply has always been no.

Ok. Thought there's nothing wrong in pursuing. If the answer is emphatic NO. Sorry.
For stock??? If they can make it fully working for stock, why are they custom kernels anyway?
Respect nobodyatall but...
Some of us still have locket bootloader. My first x8 was something 10w... last kenel tried was naa 11. But my phones has failed(reboot with stock rom and kenel on every 3 minutes, gave me one new). Now i have 12w03. And i hate this. Sorry, but ...laser profit about this, and I can't do nothing. More and more of us have stock kernel with locket bootloader.
Someone of us shoult make a pool to se results.
The pool won't change his decision get real . ICS/jb wont run on stock. About GB you have gdx or etc....

Lol. We don't have a lot of mods like the ones you mentioned. All you have to do is unlock, root, install a recovery and flash whatever rom or kernel you want and that's it. We have a lot of development here so you can choose whatever you like.
