Does anyone else dislike the home button? I really find this a step backwards.

Same here. I was a little worried about it before my phone was delivered because of what one of the reviews I read had to say about it, but I am pleased with it.

If you had a i9100 or a i9000 you are used to it. Its nice double clicking it brings out s voice. Then double clicking menus opens search.

I like it... Coming from the Epic, its taking a bit to get use to it. The simple touch to get home was nice too. I want my Camera button back. lol and Keyboard.

I also like the Home button. I like holding it down to get the task manager with whatever is running. I can easily remove any apps by swiping them off to the side. (for those few who didn't know)
But, you don't need a physical button to get the camera going. It takes a bit of practice but here's the trick - starting from the locked screen (visible) - with your thumb in the middle of the screen hold the phone in the portrait position then rotate to horizontal. The camera should pop up instantly.
it does work.
Coming from the S2 it takes some getting used to but its growing on me.

Has anyone noticed a definite lag when you press the home button before it returns to home screen? I disabled double click to open S-voice and it seems to have become slightly faster, but you can still notice a lag before the home screen shows up.
Coming from the Galaxy Nexus it was s ***** at first but I have grown used to it though but......soft keys>>>>> hard keys

Well, I guess I need to keep giving it a chance. I'm just used to having to barely press it. With the case on it seems harder to get to.

Disable S-Voice's double-tap-home shortcut in the S-Voice settings. It's instant after that. You won't be able to launch S-Voice by double tapping home though.
Personally I would prefer more screen real estate and have the digital soft keys like on the Galaxy Nexus. by doing this they could have either provided more screen or made the overall size of the phone slightly shorter.
It's my only complaint. After having a Transformer Prime and getting used to a capacitive home button, it really is a hassle.
Coming from the Samsung vibrant, I didn't like the idea of it at first because I was use to the soft keys and the s3's physical home button reminded me of the vibrant's international version (I9000).
But now that I actually have the phone, I love it. Just takes some time to get use to, depending on your preference or your previous phone.

Coming from the Evo 3D, it's definitely annoying but I'm getting used to it. Honestly, I wish they removed capacitive buttons, made the screen bigger and went for software buttons like the Galaxy nexus. That way it's much more customizable and gives you extra screen space when you dont use the bottom buttons.
Annoyed
It is a shame. My finger is tired!
Captivate had 4 capacitive buttons.
Considering how good and responsive capacitive buttons got on SGS3 - it is hard to justify physical home button, and it can break too. Suxxxx.
I dont mind it at all
I like the home button. I just hope it holds up for 2years.

Love the Home button. Coming from an iPhone 4S I am used to the physical button. The biggest plus for me is waking the phone up. I find it very awkward to press the side power button to do that instead of quickly locate the physical button right on the face of the device. Also the double tap and single tap and hold works good.

i dont know if it's just my mobile but i dont like so much my home buton.
When i holding him it can be move left-right-1-2mm.
I's not compact like iphone, altough i dont like apple crap.
This mobile i so perfect, but this home button annoys me.
Also the sound when i click it...
It looks so cheap...what do u folks thing?
I don't like the button and doubt how long it will work properly ! The button should have been made with more solid hardware as it's the only button you have on GSII.

sure i agree with you.IT LOOK'S SO SO CHEAP.

It's damn cheap. I hate the sound. Sometimes I click it once and it sounds as if I clicked twice. Hate it.

Maybe there are some quality control issues with the button. Mine is rock solid. It barely wiggles, and makes a satisfying click sound. WAY better than the home button I had on my iPhone 4.
Now I've got rid of Touchwiz, that home button is the only fly in the ointment. The capacitive one on my DHD was so much nicer. Hopefully Samsung won't feel the need to continue copying this pointless feature of the iphone on any future phones.
I miss track ball with colors notification from nexus one... it was awesome!

I tried mine and it moves but nowhere close to 1 or 2 mm.. I checked with my ruler and it only moves .5mm .. For me the clicking sound is not that loud and annoying..

Mine doesn't move at all. When presses in its makes a faint click and a duller faint click when released.
Mine wiggles too but I don't think it will break easily. Sammy qc is not so bad compared to other companies. should be ok. I hope^^
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Mine wiggles a bit but not like yours. Or maybe you're forcing it to wiggle? If I just press like normal it doesn't move or wiggle.

My button's sideways shift is immeasurably small.. I'd guess 0.2 at the very most, only just enough to allow room for not pressing the centre... the click is a nice muted reassurance of interaction.
I didn't know it before... but I love my home button. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Mine worked properly for about a month, then started to wiggle and sound as if I press it twice. It almost sounds like pressing a camera shutter, half press to focus and full press to take the shot.

I kind of like the feel and look of it actually. Now I've only had my phone for a week, but it doesn't move or anything like that for me!
I've always preferred hardware buttons too, especially for the home button. Playing around with my friend's Nexus S was horrid because of those buttons, same goes for another friend's Incredible S.
I'm hoping it lasts past this 2 month mark though, you guys are scaring me now.

you install what? can you explain?
Hello guys,
After awhile of using the phone, I feel the power button sinking more and more into the housing. There is a lot less distance to click from now. From time to time (not often) pressing the power button does not wake the phone but that's rare. Anybody having the same issues? Should I RMA?
The N4's hardware buttons are pretty "thin", if that makes sense. If you're worried, you could try something like Screen Off & Lock (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en) to reduce the number of times you press the power button. I currently have a gesture set up in Apex Launcher to launch Screen Off & Lock, and it works nicely. I imagine you could do similar things with Tasker or GMD GestureControl.
I installed CM 10.1. It has option to wake the screen with the Volume Rocker.

Yeah I've noticed it on mine too.
It was very harder and more out when I got it. It'll probably stop sinking when it reaches a certain point.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Not used it for a while but I'm pretty sure widget locker lets wake the phone with the volume keys.
As someone else said it will stop dining after a certain point. I noticed the same thing on the gnex too

Love my phone so far, but I've noticed the lock button is almost flush with the side of the bezel. Almost to the point where it's hard to push or even find in the dark. It feels responsive, just really close to the bezel. Is this normal?
My volume rocker sits out quite far (almost twice as far as my lock button) and seems prefect...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Im not sure what to tell you. My lock and volume keys are exactly the same. They are not too deep, about a fingernails height up. Nice and clicky. Try going to the store and see if they will exchange it for you?

I mean... sometimes it response on two knocks and sometimes i need four or more....
Have you seen the same ?
Yep, it's pretty normal.
I assume with it being a new feature it's not properly optimized properly if thats right word for it.
If LG get their ass into gear we may see a fix for it. And I mean IF.
No, but i have noticed a trick with it. If you put your hand over the top area of the screen, and then try to knock on. It will not work no matter what until you move your hand. I believe it is a sensor.

Try slow double tap or fast triple tap, it goes better for me
Try it at center of your screen
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
I feel if you "face" the device and tap it works all the time.
I have noticed the same thing across the top bar. I thought it was the camera controlling it, but it is just that my finger was barely on the screen itself. So far a great feature!!
-Matt
Yes the feature is one of the reasons I bought the G2. I'm always thinking I'm going to wear out the power button. LoL
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
tapping at the top of the screen where the status/notification bar would be works 100% of the time. at least for me.
I knock 3x. Works all the time
Thanks for the double at the top of the screen hint - works great now
What's worse is accidentally switching on the screen by simply handling the phone and it recognizing your "handling" as knock ons.
Yes, the proximity sensor will keep it from working. Since i have been more aware of this it works much better. Even if i have the phone in landscape and have my thumb on the slightest edge of the screen it will not work. U dont have to be over it. Just close will keep it from working.

Hi All,
On such a large phone having the power button up the top to lock the phone is annoying right?
Well, I've been using an app call "Screen Off & Lock" from the Play Store (sorry can't post links, too new here) and added the icon to the edge strip.
No more reaching for the top of the phone!
Thanks for that!

I must be the only one who hated the power button being on the side on android phones.
Ive accidently turned off my phone plenty off times in the middle of something when trying to adjust the volume.
Power button at the top is much better.
Ive gotten used to the power button on top very quickly, and have grown to like it
