How do I get the swipe keyboard in ICS? - Kindle Fire General

When I had my Dell Streak 7 and Honeycomb I really loved the swipe keyboard. Today I rooted my Kindle Fire and installed aokp_otter_build-M5_0xD34D and I am loving it. But it has some standard dumb keyboard. How do I get a swipe one on here?

Thanks that worked. It doesn't seem to be as nice as the one I had on the Dell Streak 7 though, are there different ones available?

For those of you installing Swype on CM10 you may have to freeze the stock keyboard on titanium backup in order for it to work. That's the only way I could get it to work.

where can you get Smart Keyboard Pro?
Its in the market.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
You can install any app by using astro file manager from market. Just brouse your sd card
and run .apk file. It will give you the option to install file. I am with rogers too and I would suggest you the last Dell's official release.

I use ultrakeyboard and really like.
Swype opened their beta again so go to their website and sign up. Then you can load it on there even under 1.6. They have instructions on how to load it.

For sure the way to go. Even if you aren't in the mood for swyping it's still a nice keyboard!

If not Swype, get the Gingerbread Keyboard. Its fast and pretty close to accurate. A lot better then most keyboard.....Oh and I have SmartKeyBoard Pro and I still use the Gingerbread keyboard over this one.
X2 I love this keyboard. With it, you can adjust the height of the keys in terms of sizing to fit the huge screen of our Streaks.

I downloaded the swype keyboard, and I love it so far. Hopefully soon I can type as fast with it as I did with my Blackberry 8900.
I can't get the speech recognition thing to work, cause I'm on 1.6.... But I'm workin on it.

Swype 3 Beta

Just an FYI for anyone wondering. I was able to install Swype 3 Beta, despite the indication not to.
On their website it indicates that you should not install on any devices that had Swype pre installed.
I had no problems after uninstalling Swype via Titanium and proceeding with their inStall process

Any benefit for Swype 3 over what we have on our Epics right now?
Ummmm, not necessarily, it handles things just a bit smoother though, I've been digging swype as of lately because I'm on EE03 so the kb lag throws me off quite a bit, but other than that, not too much of a gain, not too much added to the options menus.

Hmmm well thank you. One thing I'd like is the ability to tap and still have autocorrect... like FlexT9, but FlexT9 won't let you Swype for the ! and ? which REALLY bothers me.

I've been using flex t9 for several weeks and I found the prediction engine frustrating at times.
I do like the new predicted word bar like in t9, much easier and more intuitive.

You might try SlideIT keyboard
You might try SlideIT keyboard. Available on the Market for almost a year and works very much like "Swype" - in fact, I prefer SlideIT, which seems to accommodate for the eccentricities of my texting technique better than Swype... http://www.mobiletextinput.com/Download/

it has this now... kinda like the gb keyboard
I just tried downloading it from an external source (because the Swype beta registration email would not send, no matter how many times I requested a new one) and upon installation, I was bombarded with a never ending barrage of Force Close missiles until I went into System App Remover and killed it and restored my previously uninstalled but backed up stock Swype..

I've used that, but I don't like it as well because it's built-in dictionary is not as good so when you swipe on their app, the right word doesn't always come up.
Edit: Swype 3 is pre-installed on the EF02 GB Leak rom.
Not only I t a beta its higher than the beta ef02s swype is 3.4

ICS: new version of SWYPE is available

All SWYPE keyboard users, a new version is available for ICS. Nuance has purchase them so it has incorporated DragonGO into SWYPE. It allows for dictation.
You'll have to be a Beta user to get it.

I tried it out with build 16 of the branch that will be CM9 installed... worked quite well, just didnt' care of the little keyboard that comes up in the notification area. Didn't have a chance to research what it was about as I had to swap back to an old rom for a while. But I definitely make sure I install swype on any rom I install.

Yeah, whenever I get a notification, I'm never able to actually update through the preferences.
Like the other person said, uninstalling and going through Swype Installer again always works.
DragonGO!
I just love SWYPE, it's something iPhone don't have and they envy Android users. "Hey, how can you text so fast". I said, "chicken plucking is soooo typewriter days"
Anyone tryout DragonGO!, it's not that bad of an Apps.
Swype work for me in ICS Passion V13 without any problem, the bad think is the process of installing this new version, is very tedious.
anyway, another thing i could seen is that swype can retrieve any data swiped in your phone, says, password, credit card number, and other data. I cannot afford that.
I use my regular Keyboard. Swype is a very good keyboard!

Swype on nexus 7

Hi everyone,
I just preordered my nexus 7, but was wondering if out comes with Swype. I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but just wanted to check. If it isn't already there, can someone check to see if the free beta works?
I know the Toshiba excite 7.7 has Swype, so maybe out would be possible to rip it from there? I love this keyboard, looking for solutions, thanks

That's great. I used to have an Acer A100 and it didn't work with it, I'm guessing the resolution was incompatible.
Now we just have to figure out how to keep Swype on there after the beta days are over...
The beta now supports all resolutions. Using it right now on my Kindle Fire.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
yes as pointed out before the new beta supports all screen sizes and resolutions....got it working on my hp touchpad before selling it, so swype just need to update their app to support jellybean
it worked good on kindle fire not the greatest but it worked. I just hope it works better on the nexus 7 then it did on the kindlefire

I agree. I get frustrated with it on the kf and often flext9 instead. But on my phone, Swype is awesome.
I may try the new monk keyboard as well...it is weird, but i think it will be lighting fast once you get over the learning curve.

I have both keyboards, and much prefer Swype. I find it to be much faster since your not going key by key, but rather creating whole words. There is a slight learning curve for Swype, but as long as you give it a chance for a few days, you'd probably get used to it. The latest beta really makes it useable, although I only use Swype in portrait mode. Fyi - I have a hardware keyboard on my phone, so if I enter landscape mode, it's probably less work for me just to flip open the keypad and get my typing done. I tried Swyping in landscape mode yesterday and found it quite awkward, maybe I'm just not used to it.
Sent from my XT894 running ICS
Thanks for the reply! I will probably try Swype first because its input method is just amazing! But who knows how well it will work on a tablet.
Swift key and swype beta and thumb keyboard all are compatible and work great with the N7.
I change it up every so often, they are all good. Stock jelly keyboard is also real good too...

The million-dollar question is, does it recognize the tablet-ness and give you the resizeable keyboard button? Or does it give you the phone version?

SwiftKey Question.

Hi all, I got the nexus 7 recently and have installed SwiftKey on it, which I purchased ages ago for my HTC.
I want to know if I should just use this SwiftKey for my tablet or is it worth purchasing the tablet version of SwiftKey also?
Is it much better for a tablet? Does it warrant a purchase?
Thanks

I have the regular swift key for phones, and I switched to swift key for tablets and it works pretty well (especially like the split keyboard in landscape mode). I've tried using the regular swift key on the n7 and it was kind of buggy and not as responsive. I Deff think that the tablet version is worth the price
Sent from my Rooted, LazyPanda, White "Destroy Mode" Evo
If you use landscape mode most, then the tablet version is deffinetly worth it. If you use Portrait mode mostly, then your existing version is just fine.
I've had both, but partially due to the advantage of having Swiftkey show up as a free app of the day on the Amazon App Store last year.
Thanks, I use portrait mode all the time, so I will stick to the SwiftKey version I have.
