Swype vs Android keyboard

This is my first time using a phone without a physical keyboard. I'm trying to get the hang of using Swype, but I find that I'm faster using the stock Android keyboard (which actually better than I thought it would be). Does anyone have any tips on using Swype effectively? I've read a bunch of FAQs, etc. but I just must be a slow learner.

Just use it for a solid 1-3 days without switching back to the stock keyboard. Changing some of the settings might help as well.

I found that changing the swype settings helped my accuracy.
Settings > Locale and text > Swype Settings > Speed vs Accuracy
I changed the speed vs accuracy slider just a tad to the right so it is about 40% fast response vs error tolerance. It used to be about 20% fast response vs error tolerance.

I tried swype on the G1 and didnt like it that much. I gave it a chance on the vibrant and now i am loving it. I am impress with the prediction. You just have to give it a chance.

When I first heard of Swype I completely hated the idea, never gave it a shot
Got my Vibrant and for once decided to try it out, I'm fairly impressed on how easy and accurate it is once I got past trying to type in each letter, and the text prediction really is pretty good at deciphering my scribbles

IMO swiftkey tops them both. It predicts your current word and suggests your next word.

I couldn't stand swype. I am actually usinf better keyboard. I got it for my g1 and find it really nice for the most part. Then again i am not big on the whole pediction stuff. I actually type quite fast solo on the keuboard.

Faster, yes... but are you actually typing real words?!?

I use better keyboard, its closest to the stock key board I have found. I've used it since my G1 and by far the best keyboard I have found. Its $2.99 but totally worth it, plus there are tons of skins for it.

I use swype in portrait and the stock keyboard if i need to type in landscape. But I can't wait until BlindType is released

I've always hated using on screen keyboards. That is until swype came along. Its accuracy and speed are pretty awesome.

man that truly is classic. as for me i use swype in portrait and droid X keyboard in landscape. with the droid x keyboard, i do over 20 words per minute usually.
swype , i push 10

Hehe. Didn't say i was perfect but alot better then the crap i was putting out with swype let me tell you.

I can't stand swype. SwiftKey has predicted at least half the words in this post in 3 letters or less.

Very slight threadjack...
Does anyone know of an app that will switch the default keyboard automatically from swype to the android keyboard whenever I am connected on bluetooth? The one thing I like about the android KB is it has the microphone icon and I can use voice to enter searches, text messages, etc. But when I am not in my car, I much prefer the swype KB. Perhaps there is a plugin for Locale that can do this???

I think it's your job to chose the best keyboard, but I'll tell you my opinion. I use the stock keyboard, but my prefered one is the gingerbread keyboard (it works for me for a few days and after that it FC all the time). If you would like to try some alternative input method, you should try Swype (I don't know if it's available for download now). First a bit hard to use, but if you learn to use it it can be faster then the stock

I use better keyboard. There is a free trial version (no skins). I got the full version because I get bored easily and constantly switch skins. There are plenty on the Market to download.

I use Smart Keyboard Pro (costs money ) and the Gingerbread Keyboard is great... If you look around you'll also find the droid x multi-touch keyboard which is also good.

Anyone else running EC05 stock?

Swype wouldn't text so i switched on samsung keyboard and it's 99% like the iphone keyboard lol! I'm referring to the samsung virtual keypad. Lol

I'm running stock EC05 and you're right, make the buttons silver instead of charcoal gray and you have the iphone keyboard...

OMG.....I just looked at the keyboard on my HP desktop and if you just change the color to white it looks just like the keyboard on my Dell at work!

Yes, I'm running stock EC05 as well, but I turn Samsung and Android Keyboards off in the Settings. I use only Swype, and Russian keyboard from the Market, because we can't install additional languages on built-in Swype.

Swype is amazing !!

I just installed Swype and am using it for the first time. I am so impressed that I needed to make a post about it.
The thing is freaking amazing. Seriously good.

Yep... It's installed out of the box on galaxy s series handsets, but I love it and can barely use a standard keypad anymore so I got the beta for my cm installation..

Used to use it on my Galaxy S but not a fan tbh, tried it on my play and still MUCH prefer Swiftkey X, Swiftkey X is easily the best Keyboard for Android

I don't see it in the market. I see SMS to swipe, Word Swide and Gem Swype.

Nope, it's a program on public beta. It's preloaded in the Samsung Android phones. Here you can download it: http://swypeinc.com/ After downloading the installer you just have to follow the steps it tells you.
It's mighty awesome, enough that Sony is including a Swype-lookalike (T9) in the 2.3.4 update in October. You can find similar keyboards in the market like SlideIT keyboard.

Try touch pal beta ,it is combination of swype and swiftkey I.e swype prediction.....no need to swype complete word...still in beta has lot of potential

I am now of the opinion that all swipe-like keyboards are vastly superior by default after using Swype. The difference is as large as texting on the old numeric keypads versus typing on a qwerty keyboard.
Absolutely no way could I go back to a bog standard qwerty touchscreen keypad with no swipe feature !

Tried beta 1, then switched to swype and stayed with swype.
no idea why but it sometimes lags and the words aren't really accurate either.. adding a new word to the user dictionary is a PITA..

Best alternative keyboard for X10

Hello fellas, I was wondering if I could get some feedback based on people's experience on which could be the best alternative keyboard for an x10?
I'm using the default one with wolfbreak 6.0s and it is laggy for ne most of the time.
All suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks in advance!

I like Swype and also swiftkey x

I use Swype Beta... And its working pretty well... The only thing, is when it is your first time using it, you are going to find it a bit difficult... But when you get used to it, you are going to type fast...

Ahhh I found out why the keyb was lagging! I just tried removing prediction and autocorrects and now this is blazing fast!
But anyway, I would like to try something new just to see how's better!

I use the HTC IME Keyboard, instead of stock x10 keyboard.
Its quite nice, and smooth.

Im using the new sony ericsson 2.3.4 slide keyboard
its smooth and pretty accurate

Maybe I'll give SwiftkeyX another go, but I did try it on my X10 (had it free from an Amazon promotion) and found it not as good as Thumbs.

SwiftKey X is the shizz! Worth the money!

LG Optimus 2x keyboard is also nice!

Touchpal. Havent tried other keyboards coz never felt this bad. The swipe is awesome.

2.3.4 swipe is awesome for me and for very fast typing gingerbread keyboard for me
