Asus system update. - Transformer TF300T General

So I just received my tablet. I received a system firmware update . Should I ignore since I plan to root and install custom rom.
THE BOSS AKA THE BEAST !

Well if you plan on unlocking the device and installing custom roms its up too you. The unlocking app dosent care what firmware you have. I also believe they can all be 1 click rooted, again if you unlock then rooting isnt going to be an issue.

True, 1ClickRoot worked fine with my TF300T running the .30 update.

If you're gonna flash cm9 or aokp then it won't matter. Flashing a stock based from requires you to have the latest firmware.

What's the version of update?
Anything newer than 9.4.3.30 ?

You can still install the update through fastboot
If im correct the update fixes wifi issues and better pictures taken from the camera

Thanks actually after I flashed Asus hydro from it updated the camera which was part of the state, update package along with some stability tweaks and stuff

I just have received my TF300TG; I also got an update just after I connected to a wi-fi network; looks pretty nice and I think I'll play with it a little more before rooting and other stuff. Man, this is my first Asus and my first tablet. My wife will be really jealous (she has a new ipad).

No, that's the latest one. We'll probably get 4.1 directly, there isn't much sense in updating ICS when the JB version is right around the corner .

Yes, this is the one. Worked fine with my TF300T running the latest firmware (.30) and a locked bootloader. You'll be fine with that method (use the 1.1 version).

[UPDATE] CWM flashable ASUS update for ICS -- updated US, TW and WW version

As it says the update for ASUS ICS, but CWM flashable.
*WARNING* If you are rooted, you will need OTA rootkeeper from Market to flash this patch, or flash superuser after rebooting at least once. Currently US and WW ROMs only.
--If someone has an update from another version (CN, etc.) that they want to use, PM me with a link to the file and I can build/edit a script for that too and add it in--
You should be on an odexed stock ROM (rooted of-course) in order for this to work. If you are on a custom ROM, don't bother, it won't work for you. You will need to wait for the dev of your ROM to make a patch or upgrade.
I set this up to only flash the kernal and the patches. Recovery will not be effected. This is confirmed working for me.
The US version -- http://www.mediafire.com/?3aa16qy7sh4t9m4
The WW version -- credit to Lizard -- http://www.mediafire.com/?nw4zgwvl3yug0tw
The TW version -- thanks to wai43 for the files -- http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?cfq6d5lug4q4sd8
I will not be responsible if you brick your tablet. This patch worked fine for me, but may not work for others.
If I'm on stock rooted ics... Should I full wipe? Or just wipe cache and flash over? Thanks

I didn't wipe anything. It worked fine for me. It works just like a normal update. You may need to be sure to have all the factory installed files though. I did the update from a full stock, rooted ROM. Worked great.
You sir are awesome. Worked perfectly.
For those like mE that edited thier system.
1. I flashed ics full over my set up to restore it without losing my settings.
2. Root keeper to keep root.
3. Flashed this update.
4. Used root keeper to restore root.
5. Profit????

Honestly, I don't know if we can profit from this... lol, but thanks is just fine. I've been dabbling in this crap for years, but I had to go back to the drawing board to get that script to work right. I hope that ASUS has their crap together and don't release a bunch of patches over the next few months, that would suck for all the devs. It is supposed to have some benefits, but I've been playing with this for a few hours and haven't seen anything amazing yet... I'm working on some thing based on this and will release soon.
BTW, for those with random reboot issues, I have yet to have experienced that -- since the original update. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I didn't have the reboot error either. I wasn't even going to install the update. But since you made it easy....
Thanks for the uneventful update.
I HAVE experienced RR on ICS; will see what happens.
The poll in the other thread does not lead me to believe that this update fixes all the problems that lead to random reboots.
Anyway, thanks.
Btw, I tried to capture the update blob but after I renamed it, it disappeared from the /cache
I was just curious as to what you did to the update to defang it.
Is removing the recovery enough?
Does it also carry a bootloader update which you also have to remove?

I backed up su with OTA RootKeeper then rebooted into CWR. I flashed the zip, rebooted and let the update "optimize [my] apps". Once that was done I was greeted with my usual homescreen. A toast notification informed me WebKey was granted SuperUser permission, as always happens on bootup.
Surprised, I launched SuperUser and saw a corresponding new entry in the log. I double checked my current version of su, which was found to be current. I'm assuming that a "No newer version of su available" means su (and thus root) wasn't removed during the upgrade.
I next launched OTA RootKeeper which oddly reported my TF101 was no longer rooted. Nonetheless I hit RESTORE and root is back: or rather OTA RootKeeper is happy now.

Sharpe thank you for this zip. I have a US B80 and the stupid update would start to install and then after getting about a 1/4 of the way it would freeze on the android with the exclamation point. Your zip solved that problem and so far no reboots or any weirdness. I do have one question about the update though, how do I stop the tablet from trying to take the OTA(it is persistent).
Thanks

Official ICS on A501

Just to let people know, Acer have come to the party and issued ICS version 4.0.3 on the A501 in New Zealand. It installed as a normal update this morning. Mother and child are both doing well!
Feels slightly snappier and of course things are not quite where they used to be but can usually be quickly found.
Now all I have to do is root it to get rid of the rubbish...er sorry Acer, I mean useful add-ons.
Trust this is not old news!

Awesome! Any chance of posting a few screenshots?
What version of Android were you running beforehand? I'm still on 3.0.1 and still haven't received the ICS OTA (currently System Update says 4.031.26 is available however I'd like to go straight from 3.0.1 to 4.0.3 if possible) although so far it seems like ICS has only been pushed out to a few people

Pretty sure I was running 3.02, suggest it doesn't matter what your previous version is/was. No significant screen differences and I don't think I could manage a screen shot anyway.
Looks like they have updated the GPS configuration file to set it up for parts of the world other than North America which is a great improvement for me.
Guess they will be progressively updating to ICS throughout the world so it will eventually work its way round to you wherever you are.

Since the update to 4.03, when I use the Swype keyboard I occasionally get a message that the Swype version has the wrong resolution for my device.
Is anyone else using Swype seeing this and does anyone know if it can be "fixed" by uninstalling Swype and reinstalling the Beta?

Hi,
Just to let you know that ICS (4.0.3) is available in Belgium too
Grrr ... I was hoping the update would arrive while I was still at home with a nice WiFi connection. Guess what? It's showing up tonight, just after I left for our holidays ... and there's only a measly Edge connection available here.
I even had to trick the A501 into downloading it by connecting it to "WiFi" ... my HTC HD2 ... and I even had to hack that one, the tablet wouldn't pick up the Windows Mobile 6.5's WiFi router signal, so I had to start Android from SD ... downloading the ICS update at 10K/s now.
Hopefully it'll be done by tomorrow morning, but there's no way I could have waited until the end of the holidays

More or less.
Just flash the stock Asus firmware from their website in a compatible recovery. Unzip the file one time (it will still be a zip) and install.
If you updated or installed CWM with ROM Manager, don't flash with that. Other wise, flash away.

be very careful with manual update because i lost root access and i can`t restore root with voodoo root keeper.
I have also updated my tf300t manually and my root disappeared. It was impossible to restore root by "OTA Voodoo Rootkeeper"! Now I'm trying to root my transformer with "motochopper" again, but it doesn't work... Any ideas?

OTA update does not kill rootkeeper, but manual does?
In my case it was impossible to update via OTA, there was a failure and update option disappeared from menu, even when refreshing for update. So I had to update transformer manually.

I copied the last firmware (still on Asus site) on a FAT32 sdcard, after I unziped it one level. When I plugged in the sdcard, instantly the message for downgrading appeared. It finished in some minutes, and then I restored root with motochopper.
Next step, I made a backup of root with Voodoo, and now I am updating again to the latest firmware to see if voodoo will bring the root access back.
I will keep you in touch.
[EDIT]
So, after updating to the latest firmware, I restored root access with voodoo.
This means, it is possible to keep root access, but please use voodoo before updating.

EDIT: motochopper and framaroot does not work either

I can say that it certainly is a lot smoother, especially for a stock rom. It also fixed some wake issues that I was having.

I did. I use twrp 2.5.0.0 because the newer ones seem to have mounting issues. Installed supersu.

Voodoo OTA rootkeeper was able to restore root for me (I'm on locked bootloader as well). However, since you need to install Voodoo While still having root that won't help you very much, but it might be worth knowing for other people
It feels a lot snappier to me though - although statements like this are always subjective and rather unreliable, as they're hardly based on verifiable facts.

I always loose root when I upgrade because I flash the entire system file. I just used twrp to flash root back in.

that is what i am asking for others. if they fastboot flash the blob. then fastboot flash recovery. let recovery install su they will be updated with root correct. thats what your saying. i only ask im still on previous version. wondering if even worth upgrading. since i only really flashed to get firmware of last release then went to cm10.2.

Really interesting... I don't understand this ... what  why its possible to restore root for some and not for others... This is just confusing
Soo is it just me or did this update install some trial version of a wifi app that has completely messed up the wifi?
This is bs.
