Problem installing CWM - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I tried to flash CWM using the software and guide from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728824 and kept getting an error, saying it was unsupported.
then i found this guide on android authority, http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s3-sgh-i747-att-clockworkmod-recovery-99791/#disqus_thread, and followed it and used the software they provided. and odin completed the task and says everything worked. but when i try to boot into CWS it still boots into the normal android recovery system.
any idea of whats going on? i followed both guides exactly.

I need help please

I gained root and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. When I booted every process crashed so I selected wipe data/facory reset. Well now I only have the ClockworkMod Recovery and it will continuously load the 2 slash screens.
Before I cause anymore damage can anyone tell me how to go back to how it was from the factory?
You need to sbf from the bootloader if you didn't hose that by installing clockworkmod because it sounds like you didn't use koush's bootstrap to install it the way the D2 needs to have it installed. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
There are two tutorials for flashing the sbf one in windows and one in Linux but both have information worth knowing. I'd link them but I'm on my D2.
EDIT:
Windows.
Linux.
but you should read through BOTH of them before flashing.

p.s. I don't mean to criticize but a more informative thread title would be nice. If you had "Bootloop after ClockworkMod install" for a thread title that means more to me than "I need help".
Thank you that is a start. I really shouldn't have attempted this...
I got a critical error after I selected the sbf.
http://iamthewalcs.com/SBF Files and Update files/SBF File/Droid 2 Global FULL SBF.zip
I try to download that file but when I try and open it is says invalid.
Problem Solved I had to format everything first then do the steps listed.

Recovery image verification failed

I'm trying to flash update.zip on my HTC Magic running 1.5...hoping to be able to upgrade...but the installation is aborted with the message "recovery image verification failed." Should I find a new "update.zip" that is signed? I'm a newbie at this so please share any advice using simple stepwise language please.

What are you trying to flash? And in what recovery?

CleanMagic 5.0.1
I was trying to flash CleanMagic 5.0.1 A2SD/ML/POWERCONTROL as per the instructions I found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810471. After downloading it, I changed the file name to update.zip and then placed it on a fresh sdcard. But no such luck!
I get the idea that it is indeed possible to upgrade from Android 1.5 to something better, but frankly, I'm completely baffled by the enormous variety of instructions for upgrading and frightened by all the warnings about bricking my phone. Consequently, it would be helpful if someone can either guide me through the process or simply tell me that it's way too complicated for anyone other than a smartphone engineer.

Recovery???
Actually, I'm not sure what recovery I'm using. Perhaps I haven't successfully loaded one although I followed a half-dozen instructions including SDK/ADB and Goldcard, and downloaded several recovery images. However, I'm not sure whether or not I was successful. Sorry for my ignorance but perhaps you can understand why I'm pulling my hair out about this!!!

[Q] need help with custom recovery

Hey guys I'm new to android had an iPhone for 6 years. Just got the gs4 two months ago. I rooted the phone took out bloat ware apps using titanium back up. Have a few other rooted apps. Got Interested in ROMs and kernels so did some research looked around on here to how to do it. I downloaded infamouses newest ROM. I have ROM manager and I downloaded cwm recovery through the Rom manager. When I go to back up my current ROM and everything it boots into recovery mode but it isn't cwm recovery. The emblem doesn't come up and I believe its the stock recovery. My question is how can I get the cwm recovery so I can back up my current ROM and then wipe it and install the new one. I'm new so sorry if this is easy or anything I appreciate all the help
Download goo manager and let it install twrp then just flash cwm thru twrp . Or keep twrp and remember to flash loki doki if needed.
Wait!
What firmware is your phone currently on? MDL OR MF3?
If MF3, stop now. Do not flash anything.

Okay I figured out the problems. When I hit reboot and superuser is supposed to grant root permissions an error comes up saying superuser has stopped working then goes into the stock recovery mode. The only thing I found with MDL in it was the baseband version 1337UCUAMDL
Your safe to continue flashing custom recovery on MDL Baseband

Going on the information you have given, if you are doing right and using the correct version for your phone, GooManager and TWRP should be working for you. However, if you go to the development section and look for OUDHS CWM recovery, directions are given in the OP about how to manually install that recovery. Again, directions are in that thread about how to do it. I do hope you are reading all of every post that contains something you are trying to do (in other words, if you use OUDHS, read the entire thread first). Good luck.

Hey thanks for the help. I got twsp recovery through goo manager and worked perfectly. I'm having such a bad experience trying to install this rom. I went into the recovery mode after backing up my current rom and system. I wiped everything out then went into my sd card amd installed the zip that is listed in the infamous page in the developers part. I hit install and then said I'm not rooted and would I like to install superuser. I slide the thing and then went to reboot and now has been stuck saying samsung and custom with an open love under it. Pulled the batter went back into twsp and tried to reboot and still stuck. This is all after I thought I installed the rom already and nothing changed except wiped my phone. Can anyone help

Are you installing loki doki after the rom ?

[Q] ROM .zip install

Ok so currently running a rooted VS980 on 12B with CWM 6.0.x.x non touch. I have attempted to flash both CM10.2 and a 4.4 kitkat absed rom (pa_g2-4.0-ALPHA-20131205-vs980). In both cases I get the same error,
asset failed: run_program("/system/bin/loki.sh") == 0
E: Error in /data/media/o/ (filename of rom in zip format)
(status 7)
installation aborted
My current steps are a backup of rooted 12B,
wipe/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik
format system.
I also attempted to install a GAPPS .zip to see if it was happening with all zip files, the GAPPS installed with no issues.
phone also will take a restore from CWM so at least im not bricked in the meantime
Now that that is all out of the way can anyone tell me what is happening here? Only my second rooted phone first being a droid 4 and by the time I rooted it there was a lot out in the form of auto runs and apps to take care of all the steps to root/flash roms. So my knowledge level is pretty novice on this.
UPDATE: so after my reading im coming across random issues with CWM on the LG G2. going to attempt to push ASOPA 4.4 with GAPPS after I switch to TWRP.
Get same thing on trwp

Make sure you are on the latest versions. Darker ones will not install kitkat. Roms

UPDATE 2:
Ok, so after following the guide below and face palming myself about a thousand times through the process, I've come to another snag..... I get all the way to the end in both options 1 and 2, then get the error below. Option 3 (GooManager) states that there is no recovery for my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
[+] loki_flash 2.1
[-] loki aboot version does not match device
looked around through the thread and cannot find a definitive answer on what im doing wrong or what I may have done wrong in rooting or with already running CWM.
I want to attempt to go back to stock. Completely unrooted and start from scratch but not sure the path to take on this. I've factory reset via CWM but the phone is still rooted and the apps i removed via titanium backup are missing as well.
Is there a way to pull a stock firmware and somehow push it to the phone so that everything i have done thus far is erased? ( excuse the terminology here) like erasing and reformatting a computer's hdd and re installing windows.

Hopefully this stock firmware guide works...
Goo doesn't work either lol. Use freegee to install recovery. Will take you about 2 minutes to complete and you will be rooted and have a custom recovery installed

Thats how I got CWM onto the phone after I rooted. After all my reading though, I want to go back to stock and start all over again. I still haven't got a chance to start the proccess yet, been pouring through the thread about reverting back to stock firmware to see what issues have come up. From mwhat I can tell the issues were all related to people not fully reading the directions provided by the OP. Will update once I have attempted. FreeGee worked like a charm for getting CWM on though
Ok, so using the thread listed above i was able to revert back to 11a!!!!!!! now, onto IORoot and see if i can loki twrp 2.6.3.2 and then flash 2.6.3.3.
Status 7 error means the rom developer is still using the old update binary script.
If you flash the latest philz recovery before you install a zip untick the setting that says" don't allow old update binary" Your zips should then flash without issue.
A better solution is to use the new update binary script yourself or ask the rom developer to update it.

Thanks for clarifying that!!!!!
So as of now I have re flash stock 11A per the guide (showed unrooted once done), Rerooted via IORoot 22 and then adb flashed twrp 2.6.3.2, Now I am going to flash the 2.6.3.3 .zip via TWRP and then try to flash A ROM and Kernel.
Back up and running!!!!
IORoot22
TWRP 2.6.3.3
ASOPA 4.4 BETA (updating as daily releases come out)
Slim GAPPS (might switch to regular due to the speech to text function being missing from keyboard but need to do some reading to figure out if running the full GAPPS will fix that or if it is something with the ROM ) EDIT: as i typed this i got a text and as i replied I noticed the icon is there now on the keyboard.... FACEPALM....
Thanks for all the information that was provided guys. Probably could have cleared this all up without the thread and just reading, Thanks for not flaming me and turning me away with a statement to use the search function.
To anyone reading this to find a fix for an issue they are having here are the links in order of what I did to get back up and functioning.

Phone won't boot?

Hello, I was trying to root my phone last night, I unlocked the boot loader that worked perfectly, easy. Nothing else went well, I was fighting with it TWRP for hours and then Magisk wouldn't install. I gave up on that and tried SuperSu... now the phone just stays on the loading screen instead of booting, It won't boot into recovery either just fastboot. Can it be fixed?
Your phone is soft bricked and can only boot to bootloader, correct?
The only solution is flashing the stock ROM of the device. You can get your device (Tissot) stock ROM from here.
I just got it to boot into TWRP, after it cycled a few times.
Well that may make it easier, you can try wiping dalvik cache then wiping data and see if that works. Needless to say wiping data is going to delete all your personal data, but since you're in TWRP recovery you can back it up.
Wiping it didn't work, I'm trying to use MiFlash I have downloaded "Tissot_9.0_V10.0.10.0.PDHMIXM_Fastboot" my phone is in fastboot. MiFlash detects it but when I try to flash I just get "can not found file flash_all_lock.bat"
How do you tell is MiFlash has successfully installed drivers, it gives me a window in Chinese?
If it's not working - I never thought it would anyway - then your only option is to flash stock ROM.
You can try using fastboot commands through cmd window, if it returns <waiting for device> or something similar then the driver isn't installed properly. Alternatively you can install the driver from here.
Thanks, it detects my phone. How would you recommend flashing the stock ROM? Do I need to use the same version the phone was running before?

You can use any version as long as it is meant for your device. Flashing the latest version might be best option.
Happy to help.
I tried flashing it with TWRP but just got "no digest file found" I'll try again tomorrow.
This must be the most annoying thing I've done with electronics in years, nothing wants to work.

v3.2.1 anyway it's gone now, I got it booting with the guide on https://xiaomifirmware.com/roms/download-official-roms-xiaomi-mi-a1/
probably the best written one I've found.
Now to try and root it again...

You can find that in an XDA revised article here.
I got TWRP and Magisk installed no problem. I don't know if I was just tired or it was the crap guides but nothing wanted to cooperate on my first attempt.
Thanks for all the help.
