Extremely risky Desire HD physical mod, thoughts? - Desire HD General

I was tinkering with my phone, and suddenly had an idea.
Would it be possible, to replace the desire HD's screen, with a model out of another phone?
I thought up a few key points that need to be answered first:
-What phone would be a suitable replacement? I was thinking either the One S's amoled screen, or the HTC Rezounds 720p screen.
-Would either of those screens fit in the desire hd's housing? I'm google-ing for some info on that.
-Do they have the same type of connectors? I think the Rezound would need a diffrent type of connector to transfer 720p bandwith, or is it universal.
-Say I manage to fit the Rezound's 720p screen into the DHD, and connect it properly, and subsequently mod the android rom to support 720p,
would the DHD's GPU be able to power it?
Anyways, i'm not saying this is something i'll do, but it seems like an interesting project over the summer. I have enough time on my hands!
So guys, any thoughts on this?

Don't think It'd work, H/W incompatibilty and S/W would go haywire
Sent from my Desire HD using Swype beta for Android!

Buy a screen and test it out then report back.

I asked this awhile back actually, the main problem is that the DHD's GPU highest possible supported screen resolution is what it's currently running. The second would that the kernel would probably needed to be modified, and the connectors are in different places, so modding them would be extremely hard.
Wish this was possible though.

And the very fact that desire HD's screen is actually larger than the one s or rezound even if these device screens are "4.3" inch. Ours is wider.

HTC Touch Pro 2, or HTC Touch HD?

Hey guys new member of the forum i will soon be getting a new phone and it will be either the Touch Pro 2 or the Touch HD. I'm not sure which one to get as i can live without a hardware keyboard which makes the device slimmer and easier to hold, but the question is what is the difference between the 2 phones? are they running the exact same software with the same features etc etc? if they operate exactly the same the HD looks nicer in my opinion, this will be my first time owning a windows mobile, will both phones get the same updates/custom roms. Other peoples opinions on these phones would be a great help, thanks in advance.
Sorry if this is not the correct section to be posting this.
If it was me, I'd maybe hold out for the HTC Leo, the HD's successor
Another thread which is kinda similar regarding people asking what to get after the HD maybe worth a read
thanks for your reply i will have a read of that, the issue is my contract runs out soon and the Leo doesn't yet have a release date and will be getting a new phone the day my contract runs out as i can't get through the day without my phone lol.
Isn't much difference apart from the qwerty keyboard, screen size, D-pad and camera. Generally everything else is similar. Check both the specs and read the wiki for both devices, have a look at the rom forums on both to see whats available.
It would most likely come down what you want, or what your looking for in a device. Basically personal opinion.
TP2 every day in the week.
thanks for the feedback guys. Well i prefer a slightly bigger screen and a slimmer looking phone and find the TP2 to be a little bulky, but if the software is the same this helps a lot as i like the look of the software from the TP2 which will be the same on the HD.

could you maybe give some reasons on your view on why this would be the best choice? Thanks
The HD .. Huge screen .. and um... rather slim and cute looking .. I have a black silicone suround for it and mirror suraface.... and a huge screen with a huge resoultion .. did I mention that?

Huge screen, but huge screen means less pixels = less quality. TP2 got a huge advantage when it comes down to screen resolution vs. HD. And the TP2 got a keyboard and 4 hardware buttons you can actually feel.

You're kidding, right? TP2 and HD both have WVGA - you're not seriously telling me that the pixel density on the HD is not high enough? I doubt you could even tell the difference between the two concerning DPI!
And I'd rather have a larger screen than a smaller one - even if the higher DPI would make a difference... What's the use of having a higher DPI on a smaller screen?
Hd is better in music as it has 3.5 mm audio jack which means better sound quality and also hd is higher in price (the only issue is that hd will not get wm6.5 officially from htc ) but i think it will but htc does not announce that to sell alot of the recent devices

I have a Touch HD, although it is in for repairs at the moment, and would consider the TP2 but the lack of a headphone jack is killing me. I live in the US and have not had a chance to play with the TP2. I have AT&T which I am assuming will not have the headphone jack like the Sprint and Verizon (CDMA) model has, Lucky Bastards!!! Anyway, that is what will probably stop me from getting the TP2.
I am sure there will be other options with a headphone jack in the future since HTC has made it clear that most future devices will have them. TP3?? I think they are a little sore from the lashing they took for not putting it in the TP2 which is clearly a great multimedia device. Kida like buying some of the original flat panel tv's that didn't have a TV tuner or speakers. Kinda defeats the purpose.
Well I personally recomend the Touch HD (not only for the reason that I have it and I love it ) when I was choosing my device I was looking for the bigest screen on the market as I like browsing the internet a lot and let me say this BIGGER IS BETTER when we are talking about PPC's nothing can change that also you get a cool design that gets the "WOW" effect from anyone and your pants will not fall to the ground when you are carying it in your pocket. It really depends on the person but for me if I have two phones with almost equal specifications I'll go for the bigger screen even if it is 0,1 inches bigger than the other one.Leo is probably my next device but I heard great things about TOSHIBA's TG01 4.1 inch monster with 1ghz proccessor that's only 10mm thick if you can get your hands on that (it's available in some areas) I would recommend that.
If you are only using one phone I would get the TP2. As I already have the E71 for emails etc I ordered the Touch HD yesterday as a semi tablet.
if it were me, id let my contract run out, continue using the service with your old phone until Leo is released, then upgrade if your carrier runs with the leo, if it doesnt id then upgrade to the most expencive phone they offer then leaving it in its box id flog it on ebay an use the money to buy the leo...
just my thoughts

Some noob questions

Sorry for that noob question but I just wanna know if I can use this phone in my country (turkey/bulgaria) if I purchase it. I am not sure since google says "Sorry, the Nexus One phne is not available in your country".
P.S: By the way, I wanna ask owners;
- I have a HTC Touch HD and I really dont like its touchscreen, you need to apply pressure to screen, instead of just touching. How it feels on nexus one?
- Sound output: Sound quality of HTC HD is not good (I have tried with many headphones), how is nexus's output quality?
Thanks.
I can't answer the first question, however I can say that the Nexus has a capacative touchscreen rather than resistive (so you don't need to press hard, or really, at all) and that the sound output sounds just the same as any MP3 player to me, though I suppose I don't have the finest hearing in the world
dunno about being able to use it over there...
but the screen is sensitive enough that ive never been frustrated with it by having to slam my fingers on it or anything... small, light, quick touches are all recognized on my phone...
as for the audio quality, on a 1-10 scale id give it about a 6 or 7... theres definite white noise produced by the device and the bass is mediocre... it gets the job done though, i use it as my primary media player on a daily basis without gripe... better than lugging a phone and ipod around everywhere

HTC touch HD uses a different touchscreen technology (resistive) than new phones (capacitive). The nexus ones screen sensitivity is the same as an iphone/ipod touch.
Well thanks for fast answers. I will give it a try.

thoughts on the hd2 mini......

so guys, its been announced....the hd2 has been shrunk down in size. what are your thoughts?, do you new hd2 owners wish you had waited a while longer or are you happy with your king sized phone?.personally, id have got the larger model anyway, after owning a hd2(original) id never , or at least hope i never have to downsize again.is this new smaller size aimed for the ladies....? lol
http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hdmini/overview.html
HD2 > HD Mini.
I would like a smaller HD2 though, with a 4-inch screen or something. Even 3.8-inch. Because using the HD2 with a single hand is a little bit to much work..
But the HD Mini goes TO far. 3.2 inch screen is to small.
it is not the same. slower cpu, less ram. what makes You think it's the same but smaller???
old news, I posted about this yesterday...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634015
like the look but the HD2 owns it!!!
and my big question with this is....
why id it called a touch "HD" mini when sht screen is far from HD...
i know some will read that wrong and say that the hd2 isnt 720p or 1080p HD and all that but i mean in the broadest terms..
High Defenition... is HVGA High Defenition? me thinks not lol.

I agree... less screen, less cpu, less RAM, less ROM, hd2 mini? more of a hd1 mini.....
Well, it is called HTC HD mini, not HTC HD2 mini ...
Never heard of a WinMo HVGA device before... is this new in 6.5.3? If so, what about app compatibility? How many apps work on this new resolution?
Why make an HD-mini, when it is not much different from the Diamond2?
HD-Mini: more memory, slightly faster processor.
Diamond2: Better screen resolution.
Found some interesting stuff here, for example it is running WinMo build 23101.
I like my hd2 very much, why make it mini.
For those who like mini, take a mini

What is the dude in the video even doing? I got so angry at him watching the first ~2 minutes that I just couldn't continue.
Noticed the start button is not present anymore.... (Since there is a start button and back already i assumed so no need to have them on the softkeys)only 2 softkeys on the taskbar each time... cleaner look i think. better than the 6.5.3 currently which would have 5 softkey biuttons most of the time... anybody know how we can do this???
hope i never have to downsize...but it seem the hd2 will be the last big phone..i hope not..

[Q] Custom ROM with Legend screen

Hi
So, my girlfriend just got her HTC Wildfire, and I started playing with this idea about putting the 3.2" screen from the HTC Legend in her phone, to achieve a higher screen resolution, but, I guess this would need a custom ROM to enable the higher res as well. Would anyone be willing to look into the ROM thingy, then I'll look at the hardware. Shouldn't be a difficult operation, but who knows
PS: I'm studying for technical engineer, but hope it would be possible to make an easy guide to switch your screen

Why not just use the Legend instead? It's a much better phone than Wildfire. AFAIK the Legend is also due for a Froyo update.
Is there rapair parts for the phone somewhere? I think Dealextreme has some cheap repair parts. Would be cool (and cheap) to put a higher resolution screen in this device.

You'd just have to port the ROM from the Legend and make sure the pixel density was set to 160.
#2 its a matter of which design you like the best. I got the Desire myself though, but I think that the touch buttons on the bottom of the screen are nicer on the wildfire than on my desire or the legend.
I saw somewhere that there is a program for rooted wildfire's that enables higher density, where you could change it from within the program and reboot, but I guess it didn't make much of a difference on the stock screen, but perhaps it would work with another screen...
I've been looking for spareparts and found some, but dunno if it is that easy to fit the legend screen on it though. It got some kind of converter on the plug, so I don't think there is room for it in the wildfire, but I'll keep looking. The Legend is using a AMOLED though, which is a totally different technology, but if there is a 3.2" touch capacity screen, just with a higher res, it should be possible to swithch the screens really easy. Actuallly to knifes (round in the end) is the only tool you need, to get the front cover of, and from there it is just to unplug the screen and screw it of and fit in a new one

[Q] HTC Screen transplant

Hi guys,
Give me some good info on this. If the LCD density app cant change the physical resolution of the 320 x 240 screen we are stuck with, yet the HTC Aria manages to do HVGA with the same size screen, wouldnt it be possible to transplant a HTC Aria screen onto the HTC Wildfire and get a higher resolution by using an Aria's ROM or the newly dumped Wildfire S ROM?
Give me a lead on this. Would it be possible? or would it just be better to stick with what I got and wait to upgrade to something bigger in 2 years time?
Thanks

This shouldn't really be in dev but... It probably wouldn't work as the processor is different in these phones, there was a thread on this ages ago, I'll look it up for you
Problems:
Physical size
Drivers
Probably different connectors
**** ton of work
Lack of interest in a low end phone
Better sell it and.buy something else.

True, totally agree with Alex_GP
Hahaha.. the most work is forgotten... you have to rewrite all code in the kernel that makes use of graphics and the rest of the kernel has to be compatible with the rest of the hardware of the wildfire. You have to port all the code of the Aria kernel that handles graphic processing and rewrite it without GPU usage.. and put that code in place of the wildfire kernel where it has similar code.. Lol enjoy :d
Or you could just sell it on ebay and get the wildfire s

Inserting a tiny resizer module into kernel should be enough to transform original wildfire's screen into virtual 480x320, but anyway, if this eventually happens, display update still will be twice slower without a gpu, so consider using your phone as it is.

That will not be enough since the graphic calculation on the aria is done bij a gpu, and it's predefined in the kernel wich gpu it has to acces. So you have te rewrite all access methods that make use of the gpu and write a similar graphics handling procedure into the kernel for the wildfire...
