So I have my Nexus 7 and and Galaxy Nexus (Verizon), and I can't get NFC to work between the two. My Galaxy Nexus is only unlocked and UNrooted and is on ICS 4.04. Any suggestions?

If I read a review correctly, the gnexus must be on 4.1 before it will communicate properly with the N7.

Really? That stinks. Thanks for replying.
I have my GNex unlocked but not rooted. So I'll have to wait until someone puts something out there for me to flash it with Jelly Bean. I've only seen custom ROMs out.

No problem! I don't have a nexus, but I thought they pushed jelly bean out to them already. Has your carrier not pushed it out yet?

I just got it to work! I was reviewing some other posts and they said to hold the GNex to the upper right side of the back of the N7. I will do a website but not a pic from the GNex. I think I have to be on Jelly Bean on the GNex to be able to do a pic.
My GNex running 4.1.1 and Nexus 7 do work with NFC. You have to hold them pretty much back to back, basically put the GNex across the Nexus logo on the back of the Nexus 7.
The screen will zoom out a little bit, plus a sound. It'll work for there. I couldnt get a pic to transfer (seemed to activate BT) but web links did, I havent tried anything else to be fair.

Where can I find it? And any instructions to follow? I thought I only saw stock 4.1.1 out for +HSPA and not LTE (Verizon). I flashed ICS 4.04 to my Gnex before but don't remember the steps I took...
Why gnex need jb? My sgs ii has 4.0.4 and can beam correctly.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you were on Verizon. Not sure if CDMA devices can upgrade to 4.1.1 or not
To upgrade your Verizon (CDMA) Galaxy Nexus, I found this guide. Was only a Google search away. http://androidadvices.com/update-verizon-wireless-galaxy-nexus-jellybean-411-firmware/
I also have a Verizon gnex (though mine is on a 4.1 ROM) and I was able to get out to work. I found it helps if you go into settings and turn NFC off and then back on and then do the same for the android beam option. Sometimes when doing this it would freeze, but a restart of the tablet would allow you to turn NFC off and back on. Works best if you hold the gnex so that the 4G LTE logo is just above the top of the tablet on the left side

Someone said they got it working on JB on the Xoom so I started looking at that last night but haven't made any particular progress. Will post if I do.

It took them a long time to even support ICS never mind a newer OS.... I agree it would rock to have it.
WIll the Nexus 7 be getting 4.2 ota on November 13 to match the Nexus 4 and 10? Thanks.
Yes it will come with 4.2 jelly bean .
I mean for current Nexus 7 users...
I'm curious too. I really want to try it out. I'm guessing since its a nexus device, it should come down too, or at least have an official flash image since they are bringing out Nexus 7 32gb devices.
yea, worst case scenario the newer devices will have a short exclusivity window of a couple weeks. But being a nexus device, we WILL get it shortly
Fingers crossed.
My question is do I need to unroot my tablet in order to get the OTA?
I would much rather be on stock 4.2 than rooted 4.1.2

Crossing fingers as well. I need the multiple users setup badly, its to the point that i removed all my twitter, facebook and gmail just to keep my kids out of my stuff. I need to lockdown the playstore too. The way it is now its just no fun for me to use having to log into the store and visit gmail via browser..
This for me is the biggest improvement i look forward too. My GS3 could use multiple users as well at times.. again when i let the kids use it..

Nexus 7 JB 4.2 ROM
I am a rom developer for the Nexus 7 and as of right now am working on an experimental 4.2 ROM port the device. I downloaded the nexus 4 system dump earlier today and I am already making great progress to getting this ported. The only problems are: 1. The Quick settings status bar feature is not working. 2.Since im porting parts from a phone, it wont have the multi-user GUI that 4.2 for tablets is shipping stock with, but there is alternatives. I WILL UPLOAD THE FIRST VERSION OF 4.2 FOR THE NEXUS7 TONIGHT!!! (and if i dont, i'll have it up tomorrow). Reply to this if you would like to know more. And if you would like to try my 4.1.1 rom for the nex7 (with an incredible amount of 4.2 features) click this link and give it a try! I think 4.2 and 4.2.1 have lots of nice new features (like the quick settings tiles in the notification bar) but under the hood, it's a gigantic piece of sh!t, it seems. I've never seen my NS4G chew through the battery so fast in my life!!! Leaving mobile data enabled is a sure death-sentence for the battery in a matter of hours, even if it's in sleep mode!!

Still early, it keeps getting better and better everyday! I am running DaxMax's Xylon 4.2.1 on my Galaxy Nexus and it is by far the best Android I have had to date! All this negative talk has a lot to do with certain Mod's and certain Gapps people are trying to run with 4.2.1 that breaks things and are not compatible. There is a lot of dirty flashing and ignorance contributing to this gossip about 4.2.1 being a disaster. The first time I flashed it I hated it and directly went back to 4.1.2 thinking I would wait til it is complete but the second time I flashed it I am convinced I will not be looking back!
I'm happy running 4.2... Its issues that were also common in 4.0/4.1 when they were first introduced. There are some great people working on it, so I imagine it'll get better soon.

I'M wondering is it possible for a dev to make an ice cream rom based off 4.1 not 4.2. I really liked that a little better in my opinion. My imobster game just isn't the same on jelleybean as it was on ice cream. any thoughts?
I can't for the life of me think of why you would want ICS over jb but I think your luck is probably out. As I really can't see a dev taking the time to make a worse ROM. Sorry! Are you sure your game just hasn't been optimised for the n4?

Thanks for informing me I kinda figured it wasn't possible. Now don't get me wrong 4.2 is an awesome OS but I play this game imobster and we have a thing we call spam attack when you can attack someone 10 in one sec and JB just will not let me do that so I'm still playing it on my HTC ice cream based ROM but I take my nexus 4 with me too and just change sim cards back and forth. Lol I've flashed every ROM the N4 has I think and I just can't find one that suits the need of the game.I'm a nexus junkie and a imobster junkie and have owned the first one through the last one well I still own nexus one but got rid of the other ones until N4 came along but I just wish storm8 the maker of the game would optimize it for jellybean. Thanks all. Anymore ROM suggestions?
There's probably a way with a lg optimus conversion.. but it's a bit of a brick risk
This is the most hardcore hipster request I've ever seen on XDA.
Now if what you're really after is just the look of ICS, there are CM themes that do that pretty well.

Should be smoother and the Magazine UI. Kitkat was designed to work on lower spec devices than Jelly Bean. There are man many more differences. If you check Wikipedia, they do a good job of listing the changes.
