I have a few questions about updating a rooted nexus 7
Can I update through OTA without unrooting? If so, how? (please be specific)
All of the threads I have read have been pretty vague.
Thanks

I've tried searching but can find anything specific it would be good if in the tips or Q&A that there was a pointer to a definitive article on upgrading an android version when rooted.
I'm a relative new user to Android and have recently purchased the Nexus 4 and one of the first things I did was root it and thanks to the 'idiot guides' didn't have a single issue but now that 4.2.2 is out I've been unable to find a definitive set of instructions for upgrading Android while rooted.
Could someone throw together a guide for us newbies on what the options are for upgrading and how to got about it as I'm sure there are others that are rooted and don't know how to upgrade to the latest version?
Thanks
Jon

In order to flash the OTA you need stock recovery and stock kernel and enable usb debugging on your phone. You can download the OTA from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971169. Place this zip in the sdk platform-tools map. Reboot in recovery: adb reboot recovery and choose adb sideload. Then select the OTA-package and it will be flashed. You will have te reroot after the update unless you use Root Keeper.
There you have everything about updating http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848 Btw if you have just root then you should have no problems with updating when you receive OTA notification
Im rooted with CWM. I received the OTA notification last night.
I pressed reboot and install. CWM installed the update and then asked me if I wanted to keep root. Phone rebooted and I had 4.2.2 with root. So simple!

I thought I'd jump in to make a suggestion before you get filleted like a fish. Please see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848. It will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know. Read, re-read if necessary; trust me, it's all in there. It's VERY well written with a tremendous amount of time spent to help all of us out.
I think the thread linked above should answer your question pretty well. Also, in future please search before posting and post questions in the Q&A forum.

like they said above....read.
however, to answer the question simply, if you want to update to stock ota after rooting, you will need to reflash stock recovery, then you can either wait for the notification to update or you can download the signed ota zip and sideload it with stock recovery. you do not need to worry about actually being rooted....this does not affect whether you can update or not. what does affect it, though, is the recovery you have installed. and in order to root, you needed to install a custom recovery. This must be revered to stock prior to updating.
Hi,
I have a question about my Nexus 7. I would like to root it but I would like to know if I will still receive OTA update from Google? Of what I understood, if your device is rooted you won't receive OTA update? If you don't receive OTA update, would it be possible to update it manually? I want to continue to use the stock OS but I want to enjoy the “root” features…
Thanks!
You will continue to receive OTA updates if you stay on the stock ROM.
I would highly recommend that you get yourself acquainted with Linux so that you can better understand root access and android in general!
Xda guides and forums are great places to learn and it would be a shame not to read them to exploit them to the fullest before posting!
Hope that helped!

OK, I allowed an OTA update to kitkat without thinking. Titanium backup and Superuser now report they don't have root access. I re-ran the root process and received a success notification.
I'm new to the rooting game and am sure the fix (if there is one) is simple. I did a search on the web and through various forums and have not found anything specific for my device (which is no surprise since the update i so recent).
I would appreciate any input...or disregard if your feel it was not worthy of a response
Thanks either way!
You'll have to downgrade to 4.2.2 using the back to stock guide found in the general section. Not hard and had to do it myself.

I have two Fire HD 10's that are rooted using the SuperTool.
I've read a lot on the forum and can't seem to find an answer on whether or not we can ever upgrade to the latest firmware without losing root. I know that I obviously cannot take the OTA.
Is anyone working on a modified version of the firmware so that we can safely upgrade?
Thank you for any help, if I missed something and I'm asking a dumb question, I apologize.

Yes, updating the firmware will remove root access
