Hey guys, need help with sorting/arranging apps...
I have Dell XCD35 - GEN2 - ICS 4.04 (ColdFusionX). Is there anyway I can create a folder called "Games" and get all my games icons inside that ?
If that's not possible, then how about a completely different Screen/Grid for games. First and second grid will only show program apps, settings, email, gtalk, etc., and third, fourth, etc., for game icons ?
I just need to set my game icons apart from other icons. I don't want them to get mixed. It's just too confusing
When the apps grid is open, upper right corner has "Apps" "Widgets". When I keep pressing the "Apps" it shows by "Name" or "Install Date" Now arranging the icons by Name makes it too confusing, coz system apps, program apps, and game apps get all mixed up and "Install Date" just makes it worse coz it throws my system apps all to the end.
A friend of mine has Android 2.3 Gingerbread and when he installs new games, they don't get sorted alphabetically, their icons are all the way back. Can I do that in ICS ?
Can you guys help me out ?
Thanx a lot in advance
Edit: If "Install Date" was somehow reversed, it'll show the recently installed apps all the way back, and now that'll just solve all my problem "

No problem. If you're done with it, you can ask a moderator to lock it

Is it possible to rename the folders that you create on the home screen?
Am I really stuck with multiple "Folder" icons with no indication of what could be in them?
Thanks for any help!
Open the folder and long press on the title bar. You will then get a text box so you can change the name.
Awesome! Thank you!
Pretty much everyday I'm finding new settings to play with on this thing.
What about putting folders into the AppTray? I know that some themes and home extenders will let you, but I don't want to have the added overhead of those things eating up memory... plus I get too many FCs on things when I use themes.
(I'm using the most recent, stable, CyanogenMod btw)
There is a different launcher which is here. This might be what you are looking for.
Thanks!... I'll check that out when I'm home from the office. It looks like it's just what I'm looking for.
Update: I went home for lunch. Yeah, this is perfect. I tried the Dark Hero theme and this launcher was bundled in with it... but too many things wouldn't run with the theme, so I dumped it. Thanks again!
The notifications tray is great, easily pops down most of the time and the apps tray (with ALL the apps) is just as nice.
But i would like a extra tray for settings and/or favorite apps instead of clogging the "desktop" with shortcuts.
like a tray that flips out from the side of the screen.
is it even possible to add a off-screen container such as the above mentioned dropdown/up trays?
and if yes, are there any available at this time?
I know this isn't going to answer your query, but what is wrong with just populating one of your home screens with shortcuts?
I mean, if you do this with one of the screens either side of the "centre" home screen, you effectively get what you require.
Regards,
Dave
I do use the screens as placeholders for my everyday apps, but most of the time i need a app thats on another screen, meaning i have to go look for it.
With a pulldown tray that would pop out from the side, i could keep my most used apps more conviniently located, just a tap away, instead of 1 to 6 swipes away.
since the apps and notifications are dropdown/up i feel its missing dropdown left/right, witch is the real reason im wondering.
it would be great with apps on one side and settings on the other, then i wouldnt use more than one or two homescreens for widgets only.
I seem to recall one of the home replacement apps had this...I can't recall which.
I know, what you mean.
It's not so nice, to put hundreds of widgets and Shortcuts on the screen.
I don't like it on Windows Desktop, too.
Therefor, I have loaded Apps Organizer from Market.
I put my Apps in 5 Folders, sorted.
Is that something to try for you?

I love it, really.
Perfect thanks

I recently converted from a strictly WinMo user to Android and having struggled to find apps stored on my phone because of a lack of folder organisation, am thrilled to find this app. Many thanks!

actually you can do that with the stock sense widgets, as there are folders for the homescreen. afaik they don't support custom icons though.
Hey all!
I know it might sounds stupid, I'm kinda new to this Andorid stuff
I have the MDJ Revolution HD v.1.2 on my HD2 and can't figure out how to remove\delete shourcuts from the all apps screen, Not the home screen, the all apps screen
I tried everything, can't drag them anywhere cause it says my home screen is full and when it's not, i tried to drag them down and delete them but... Nothing
I'ts there a way to totally remove\delete them from the apps screen- it's a mess!
Thanks guys,I hope you'll make my week by helping a new stupid guy solve this out
=)
From homescreen, click menu button to bring up menu c screen, click menu and find application in menu setting screen. On application manager screen, choice and click on application you do not want and uninstall it. Rhis method will uninstall your application, therefore to have it back, you have to reinstall it.

Thank you for your answer !
But i guess you got me all wrong, i don't want to Uninstall apps.. just to remove the shorucuts of them on the all apps screen( once again, I'm NOT talking about the Home Screen - just about the All Apps screen. I moved my shourcuts to folders like;games, media, etc...
now all I want to do is to remove the annoying shourcuts (Igot too many) from the all apps screen.
Got it now? I wanna keep my apps, got them all in folders,,, now please help me remove the shourcuts on this all apps screen
thanks again!
That's down to the launcher. What launcher do you use? (Please say launcher pro!)
Oh yeah, and I'm not being all "know-it-all" like, cos I don't, but it's the App Drawer. Other people will at least know what you mean if you call it something we recognise

I'm afriad I don't use one or know what that is.... Yeah, i know, I'm new to this, and new=stupid.
If you understand my problem with the shourcuts on thr all apps screen i'd love to know what you got to say about it.
thanks man
New don't mean stupid mate - you are stupid if you're stupid though
The launcher is the homescreen, with all your shortcuts and widgets on it, and encapsulates the app drawer as well.
In your case, since it's a HD build, I'm guessing that means Desire HD, and I'm also guessing that you have Sense on there.
Is that right?

Yeah!!! 100% right.
Okay. Do you want to keep Sense? I only ask because I use something called Launcher Pro, which is basically like your desktop, with widgets and shortcuts, but it also encapsulates the app drawer. With Launcher Pro you can hide shortcuts from the app drawer, but I've never seen this in any other launcher, including Sense.
Is there a way to keep sense and still be able to remove the shourcuts i don't want?
I like the sense thing.
Its just weird I can't find a way to deal with this all apps screen and edit it somehow.
btw- thanks for helping, =)

No worries mate, but as I said, Launcher Pro is the only launcher I know of with this option. It's something that would be in the launcher itself - not something that could easily be added on.
Got it. so I guess Sense and removing shourcuts is something that can't be done,
Thanks again.

Not that I'm aware of. Unless there's some hidden method within Sense itself then I'd imagine that you're asking for new functionality, which would need re-coding and a rebuild of Sense.
I've had a bit of a google and couldn't find anything else either.
I know it's not ideal, but try Launcher Pro. It's in the market and it's free (there's a paid version with some more options). When you press the home button you'll get asked what launcher to use, so you can toggle between Sense and Launcher Pro (and the default Android Launcher) and see which you prefer. It'll mean setting up all your pages again, and you won't have access to the HTC widgets in Launcher Pro, but there's swings and roundabouts.
If you don't like it, you just uninstall it and go back to using Sense. It won't affect your current Sense setup at all, so you won't lose anything.
Why oh why can't we create new empty ones to use on our own? Also it seems there's no home screen folders in Honeycomb.
If anything, I'd love to be able to change the background on those Acer cubby-hole screens. They are a tad to, um, off... for me.

yeah they don't seem to match any other theming on the device.
I think we need a [DEV] to root around and find out where those wallpapers are so we could try and push our own (overwrite them with our own).
Do folders exist in Honeycomb?
Not that I'm aware of. My wifes Archos 101 w/2.2 does but I guess they removed that for Honeycomb. Vanilla'wise, I mean.
EDIT
I do use Circle Widget, so that sates my need for folders.
do you mean Circle Launcher? https://market.android.com/details?id=de.dbware.circlelauncher&feature=search_result
Yep - sorry my mistake. Circle Launcher. Works well.
What's really annoying is that apps disappear from the folder when you update them.
Has anyone tried Folder Organizer on Honeycomb?
Autoapporganizer
Apps Organzier
Circle Launcher
all so much better than the default Acer ones.
I use folder organizer. It works pretty well, but it shrinks the app icons a little bit. I'd rather they stay full sized. When you update an app, it sometimes disappears from folder organizer and you have to add it again.
Hi,
In every other android based phone I've owned I've always had an option to hide apps I don't use allot so you just drag an app up to the top and there are usually two options: Uninstall and Remove which places it in a vault for safe keeping. This doesn't seep to be present on this phone and I HATE cluttered desktops so I'm a bit bummed about this so I thought I'd reach out and see if I'm not figuring this out.
I am now aware of the right swipe that brings me to some other settings but there is no app vault there for hiding apps I don't use.
Also is there a way to uninstall allot of the bloat ware this phone came with? I use Google apps for most of my needs and Opera as my main browser so having these other apps on board isn't much to my liking and again without a vault of some kind to take them off of hte desktop...... no fun!
I do know about the combining apps into "folders" and renaming them but I'd just like the apps GONE that I don't and never will use.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
You could just download another launcher with the option to vault apps and about the bloatware you can follow this tutorial right here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/remove-redmi-note-7-bloatware-root-t3925049
Can you recommend a launcher that's stable and good? I've tried a few on my tablets but ended up going back to the default as they were mostly unstable... I'm sure it's going to be different on a phone but it was a bit disheartening to try about 4 launchers on my Lenovo tablet and just didn't like them at all.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Nova Launcher is pretty good
Give a try to poco launcher.
Very stable.
I use Evie Launcher, lightweight amd simple to use

You can try CPL (Customized Pixel Launcher) from playstore. I guess CPL is the best in term of stability, optimizations and LOTs of customization, you wont find in any launcher IMO
No need for Nova launcher or Poco ,new system launcher alfa version ,have new options , swipe up to app drawer..
Hmmm, but if there is an App Drawer in a newer version of the launcher that ships with this phone I wasn't aware of that but the main thing for me, besides the drawer or vault or what ever it's called (too many strange labels to understand what I'm trying to say ) I really need that bit when I'm dragging up to allow me to remove the app from the desktop. In the default there is that weird option that seems to replace the "remove" option.... called "Dual apps" which I have NO IDEA what that's all about and really don't care.
I'm using Poco and it's nice enough. I love the dark theme option but one thing I am missing is when one gets new phone calls or texts the icons in the lower bar area usually changes to indicate how many there are waiting. With the Poco set up there doesn't seem to be any indicators like that... or perhaps it's because I changed the icon set out?? Not sure what's caused that to stop working.... Weird.
Thanks for all the suggestions good people!
