never seen this icon before..?? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

since I went ICS on my 6800, I now have this weird icon on the status bar, lower right, just to the left of the clock.
It looks like a lower case "i" with a circle around it.
Now I am guessing that could mean, ;notifications' off..
BUT, Im darn sure that I got my notifications on..
And I dont get the audible 'whistle' when I receive a txt message, but my volume is up.... my ringtone is loud as hell...
but no audiable notification for a txt received...
I just dont understand.....
I do have all my notifications set to 'on'
thanks for all answers, comments and questions.

no screen capture?
maybe its samsungs push service notification, it comes out when you open your tab after recovery.

Please add a screen grab so we can seewhat you are talking about.

I have the same icon..probably becoz u do not have the simcard installed or in my case, I put another roaming simcard inside. Once i put local simcard it is gone. But when i disable my data plan it came out again. Just only a notification info.

I've got a screenshot if you want to see. I don't know what this icon means nor how to remove it.

Its the notification icon. Once its on, you wont get any notification even the column is up. Perfect at night when u go to sleep or u don't want any notification to disturb ur quiet time.

Ok.. thanks... now how do I get it to go off???
I want my notifications on.. and I DO have them turned on....
But I must be missing something somewhere ..
They were always on before the flash to ICS..
They are on in the settings...
Hmmmmmmmmm. Got me stumped..

Tap on the clock on the lower right, the notification panel will pop up.
Slide the buttons to the left. You'll see the notification on/off button.
tap to highlight it green to ON it. Tap again to off it.
The same method to on/off all buttons.

i'm just kidding, but i couldn't resist....
Yeah they need some type of way to lock it.
Theres an app called ring guard that reverts the ring tone volume when accidentally hit. It's pretty good because I used to hit out all the time.
If you don't like that then I suggest acquiring a case the protects the volume from being so easily pressed.

Riggs may be kidding but it's actually the truth. The volume keys are useful, why would you want them disabled? The best solution to your problem really is to just stop pressing them. I know the problem, I had my own issues with them... for about 2 days. Then I just stopped pressing them.
Don't downgrade your device, upgrade yourself

Thanks everyone for your replies, no I'm not holding it wrong but I am left handed and the volume rocker is always against my hand. When typing like I am right now I occasional hit the volume by accident. Also I have car holder and that always hits em as well, didn't have that problem with my evo so I was just asking a question. I appreciate the jokes because they are funny and I thank the only one of you all who actually gave me some good advice.

I use Volume locker - it still allows you to press the button, but does not change the setting until you confirm it on the screen. It seems to be the best solution sort of editing the text file on the phone that contains the button mappings.
Good luck
I use volume locker also by hourdb in the market...I can vouch that its a great app that does wonders...also comes with many fine tune settings to control many different scenarios depending on your needs.

Is there a fool-proof way to ensure data is not turned on?

My data charges depend on the usage and it's very expensive. Sometimes, somehow my data is accidentally turned on. Is there a fool-proof way to ensure that that never happens? Is there an app that ask me to confirm if I am sure that I want to turn on data?
Go on settings
Press "more"
Go on "mobile networks"
And if data enabled is unmarked that means its off

I don't want to always go through those steps to see if it's off.
And, it doesn't really ensures that it never gets turned on.
Is there another way?

Airplane mode... haha that will be sure you wont have data charges!!! lol
I'm guessing you could make a null APN and simply select it, that way your device shouldn't be able to use data until you choose the right APN.
^^ This will definately work.

Quick settings by dragging the top nav bar down.
And just press the mobile data icon if it is on to turn it off.

I think this is Battery Stats Plus?! Have you installed this App?
This shows your phone is on vibrate, try turning the volume up a bit and it will dissappear :thumbup:

Drag down settings, expand the quick settings and the vibrate option should be highlighted in green , if you press this the loudspeaker icon should dissappear or if the phone is on mute just the two squiggly lines left and right of the icon should dissappear ?

No on the screenshot it's not this that I want to delete but if you look closer it's the little Battery in red that I want to remove
I think he means the little bar under the Volume Symbol. So it has nothing to do wie Volume or Vibrate.
Strange - in App Market are some screenshos of Battery Stats Plus, on 2 of them are exactly the same little battery)bar in statusbar.
i dont think he's talking about the muted speaker/vibration icon, if you look closely you can see a little red and green icon that looks like a battery in the same spot.
I have no idea what it is though... sorry...

Swipe Up From Home Button to Lock Screen -- Sharing what I discovered...

The same gesture that you do to get to Google Now can be changed to turning the device/screen off.
Just install this free app called "Screen Off And Lock": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
Then swipe up from Home (like you would to get to Google Now) and it'll ask you to set a new default:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Grant it permissions, and now, every time you swipe up from Home, you can lock your screen/device from anywhere! Great for those who don't want to overuse the power button, and for those who obviously don't use Google Now like that.
To get rid of it, just go to "Screen Off and Lock" app in your App settings and Clear Defaults (or just uninstall the app).
Just thought I'd share.
Thank you! I love the apps like this.
love it, if only i can swipe up to turn on
Thanks for sharing.

Bricked kernel supports both tap to wake as well as swipe to wake BUT battery train increases by about 2-3x on idle above having it off. It goes from 0.5 to 1% per hour w/o these enabled to 2-3% w/ enabled. These are both customizable (enable/disable) but be aware of the drain.
This is great for one handed operation when you don't want to reposition the phone.
Very cool, just what my N5 was needing!
Thanks for highlighting this app.
This app disabled the double tap to wake function of the bricked kernel. That is unfortunate, because having both of these running in conjunction would make the N5 a 1 handed notification checking, song changing device when its on your desk or table.
EDIT: Just kidding it was disabled for some reason. I had it set to reenable after start up...so I don't know what happened.
Too much battery drain I never use these apps

Lol. It's the exact same amount as Google Now. It is only listening when the screen is already on, which would otherwise be waiting for an upward swipe for Now.

I realize that. I mean I'd like to be able to turn on and off the grayscale mode without holding the notification icon, selecting grayscale, turning it off, and then backing back out.
A quick toggle is what I was referring to. Tap the toggle on and off without the theatrics.

It is quite easy to do
I use widgetsoid to add a tasker task to the notification panel to switch between different screen modi
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jim2&hl=de
Here you can find an tasker example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772768
I use it also to invert colors or to activate colors even beeing on ultra power saving mode
:good:
Widgetsoid is not necessary. Just create a task with the function of toggle then use widget from Tasker.
