my phone dropped a few weeks ago with my case on about 3ft off the table. the case didn't come off but my sd card got unmounted. it didn't bother me, just took the sd card out and placed it back in and worked fine. but now, every other day it keeps unmounting itself. formatted the card a few times already, fat32. card still read with the sd card adapter. is it the card or the memory card reader in the phone itself? its a 16gb class 10 wintec card
also read that the memory card can get shocked while it's in the phone? anyone knows if thats true
I had this issue except when it unmounted the SD card could not be mounted. I accidentally formatted the system. I realized the error if my way and it was too late. Thankfully I had a SD card reader and was able to format my SD card and flash a new rom. I think this was caused from going back to GB and ICS somehow the data in SD card got currupted. For me formatting solved my problem( I think so far no issue) you said you tried that, maybe your card is going out try a new card for a couple of weeks and see if that fixes anything

Hello All,
I replaced the SD card in my DI (Stock 2.1-update1), with an older 8GB I had laying around. Now every once in a while the phone says the card was removed without warning. Powercycling the phone won't bring it back, however a battery pull will, as will ejecting and re-inserting with the phone on.
This leads me to believe it's not a contact issue (as the battery pull fixes it)
I want to see if anyone else has similar problems, and try and see if it's just a ****ty SD card (I don't have another to try long term, but I can just grab a 8/16GB from amazon if I have to) or if it's related to bad hardware in my phone, or some software issue.
Thanks in advance,
Spencer
I haven't noticed random unmounting of the SD card, however I've noticed that when I plug my phone into a usb port of a Windows 7 machine it will mount the SD card.
Some apps will notify me that my SD card is mounted and I have to manually set my phones usb mode to disk drive and back to charge only in order to unmount the SD card.
This happens on the leaked 2.2 with the 2gb SD card that came with my phone.
Maybe both instances are bugs?

My card is formatted in FAT32, with the 2.2 leak, and it unmounts the SD card whenever I plug it into the stock charger in the wall. Would reformatting it to something else stop that?
My card is formatted with whatever the phone formats cards as. Mine seems to stick to USB only when it's plugged in, maybe just a bug of the leak for it defaulting to something else.
Do you have Sync installed?
In my experience, I was running the 2.2 leak with hydra kernel and it was giving me an SD mounting error constantly. Never did I have a problem with stock. Thats why I just went back to it actually.

Hi,
I've a Desire HD with the 8GB microSD card that came within. Randomly I got a message something like "Sd card unexpectedly unmounted and I can't access the card. The only way to have it back again is rebooting the telephone with the option Fast Boot disabled.
Any clue about what this should be?
Regards,
I had a similar issue, although I never got the warning, well, it never actually unmounted.
I would try and take a photo and it would drop to the homescreen. I figured I had to unmount and remount the SD card
I did a factory reset to fix it. Maybe the same can help you?

I have had the same from time to time and figured it was due to low quality of the SD-card.
So I actually just switched a few moments ago for another SD-card i got laying around. This is a class 6 card though and a bit better than the class 2 samsung card that comes with the phone. We'll see how this will turn out. Hopefully its a bad microsd card and not the phone.
This solved it. Havent had any problems with the card unmounting since i changed the card.
I had this problem, even start a new thread...
This is due to some corrupt file inside the sdcard or even a bad sector.
Try to do a "chkdsk /f /r" on the sdcard...
Hi,
I've checked the original SD Card with chkdsk as sugested and everything seems OK.
Since then I've changed the original card with a 16GB Class4 Kingston card and the problem does not happen again.
Let's see......
Regards,
If I did only "chkdsk /f" it also reported that the sdcard was alright... but I still had problems...
I had to use "chkdsk /f /r" to discover that I had a bad sector...
Now, for a few days I still hadn't any problems...
Oh, this didn't happened with the stock 8GB card... it was another SD card that I already had.
Replacing the stock card did help.
Today my x started saying the memory card was blank. It will not let me format it or anything. Anyone else have this happen yet?
I have gotten a not recognized mesage before. I took the battery out and pulled the sd card out then booted the phone. Then turn the phone back off and try re-inserting the card.
Do you have another sdcard reader that you can test it in?

I just got a Droid X used. It didn't come with a memory card. I tried the 4gb card out of my Incredible but it wasn't recognized. I tried an old 1gb card. Not recognized. I bought a new 8gb card from Sam's Club. Not recognized.
I did a search here and this post is the closest to what I am experiencing.
I tried to format the new 8gb card to FAT32 just to see what happens. No success.
I have rebooted the phone several times, removed and reinserted the card, and made sure it is seated properly.
The Settings>Storage screen states the following:
Total space - Unavailable
Available space - Unavailable
Mount SD card - Insert an SD card for mounting <grayed out>
Format SD card - Format (erase) SD card <grayed out>
Any suggestions?
If this is a software glitch and rooting is an option, I can do that. I am familiar with rooting from my Incredible. I am hesitant to root with this issue lingering.
Thanks.

have you tried cleaning the sdcard slot? just a thought. if that does not work then its possibly a defective slot.
Other people have probably already discovered this but I thought I would share this information.
I was using an SD build of Android on my HD2 and had problems with it losing files during USB connection. I switched to a NAND build with data on SD card.
The corruptions on my SD card caused system errors, force closes and mismatching system UI numbers.
This got sooooo bad that I had resigned myself to buying a new (and bigger) SD card.
However, whilst browsing the ext4 partition threads I read about the Panasonic SD Formatter V2.0
Apparently formatting an SD card using windows isn't good enough for SD card standards. The Panasonic app sorts that.
So I copied all my files off, formatted the SD card (takes about 10 mins) with complete erase on the Panasonic app, copied them back and re-flashed my Android build.
I have now been using the card without error for over a week and am blissfully happy with Android on NAND.
Damn, I love this forum!
(Might still buy the bigger card though! )
Cheers,
GG

I had exactly the same problem, it began with corrupted files, constant errors, FC and restarts. At the end it was so bad that neither device nor PC could not read the card. Panasonic SD formater the only thing helped. However from the 2nd attempt, quick format didn't work long I.e. problems came back in few days. After full format everything seems to work OK. It's been OK for 2 weeks now
BTW card is Sandisk 8gb class 2

Put the sd card in a larger adapter card and put it in a laptop or external cardreader

Hello!
I really need help.
I have stock EG22 rom and 32gb SD card. Everything was ok but suddenly I can't mount SD card. If I'm loading into Nandroid everything from SD card available. But if I'm booting the system nothing available and "MyFiles" app says your SD card not inserted.
Few times tried to change the Rom and cleaned data. Nothing helps.
Phone is rooted
Please, I need help, advice, etc? Help me, please?
Suggestions
For me, anytime I have an issue with my SD card, I take it out and clean the connections. Retry.
If still no dice, I backup everything to my PC and format the card. Then I move back critical folders/files, insert the card and try again. (This usually is the fix.)
If still no luck, then if you still have the SD card that came with the phone, try that one.
Could always try reflashing the rom again without wiping data.
Did you have this problem on Froyo?
Didn't have this problem on Froyo and I think I'll try to odin EC05 rom.
Thanks
I have the same problem on the SUPERNOVA ROM,Weird! My friends don't have this problem on their epics with supernova. is it a bad download??
It could be a sign that the SD card needs reformatting. This has fixed issues for many. Doesn't hurt to try. Backup all data on sd card to a computer then reformat sd card in the phone...this is important for best compatibility. Then restore your data.

Most likely a rom issue but I do have to say that the EPIC 4G can and will kill and SD card. They have problems getting hot, especially if you use the LED flashlight app and leave it on for awhile, the metal harness around the microSD gets really hot and bricks the sd card. My epic 4g ruined my 8GB card as well as another 4GB card due to this. My 4GB card will not mount, will not format, not even in a computer so It is toast I assume and my 8GB card just doesnt get found.
It also seems to be very finicky with the 32 MB cards. So def reformat. Also Gingerbread leaks seem to access it slightly differently than Froyo ROMs. So problems show up in GB that don't in froyo.
You were right. I've reformatted the card and right now it is working. Actually, it didn't matter it was a Froyo Or Gingerbread.
After reformatting everything works just fine.
And I did reformatted it on my computer, because my phone was not doing it.
Thank you very much!
