Hashcode's Jellybean ROM problems - Kindle Fire General

I can't post in the development thread so I thought I'd post here. I just flashed Hashcode's latest Jellybean build for the KF a minute ago. I am experiencing some problems and would like to know if anyone could help me with them. First off, the Play Store keeps force closing on me. I am running the 7/11 JB Gapps and that's supposed to fix it. Second, battery life has seemed to me at least, to be less than average. I started counting at 40% and in about 20 minutes it was at 34% and stayed there for a long time. I rebooted and it was at 28% which then almost immediately dropped to 27%. I went through all the settings and disabled any battery drainers I could find such as, background apps running, location services, Gmail notifications, etc. Does anyone know how I can improve my battery life? Before I flashed this rom I was running JackpotClavin's ICS build and that had stellar battery life. (Only need to charge every 3 or 4 days). I tried updating to Hashcode's 3.0 kernel and ROM based off CM9 a couple of months ago and battery life was a issue there too. Please help if you can.
Thanks,
wws

You didn't state what charge your battery was at when you flashed jbean. If you did not have a full 100% charge then you will need to clear your battery stats (when at 100%) and let it discharge fully to have a properly calibrated battery stats.

Not to hijack your thread or anything but i have had some problems with the latest build as well my friend
wifi doesn't want to connect for me.... like it detects the networks and tries to connect to my dlink router but its stuck on obtaining ip address..
i had no problems on the previous build with wifi after the adb fix.
help for both of us would be greatly appreciated.

Umurin94 did u to a clean install or dirty? If u did dirty I'd try deleting the network and adding it again and for the OP if market isn't working go to settings-> apps and clear data on the play store

I installed the first version of Hash's JB after doing a System wipe and I had a number of small issues including Gapps. I finally went back and reinstalled it after doing a Factory Reset. That fixed all of the problems I was having. Of course it wipes your settings and data but for me it was worth it. You might want to try the Factory Reset. I played with the JB all day yesterday and got very good battery life and the charging indicators were working. I really think the battery issues are related to the 3.0 kernel.

My battery was at 40% when I first flashed JB. I'm not sure how to do a battery stats reset, could you tell me how to? I'll try doing a factory reset tomorrow. Is there any way I could backup my apps and then restore them after I wipe it? Kind of a pain to redownload everything

at first i did a dirty install and saw it wasn't working so i wiped everything and even downloaded the rom again and reflashed... i'm still having the same issue.
eventually it says "Avoided poor internet connection" under the networks name but it says the signal strength is Excellent and is 1mbps which is weird.

Just clear the data in the Play Store. Just had that issue when flashing the update. You'll need to login to Google again, but that should be all that's needed. If there's more FC happening, just delete the apps and reinstall them using Google Play and that should take care of it.

Can you send me a "logcat" via "aLogcat" from the market or do this via adb: adb logcat > logcat.txt
and send me the logcat.txt to hashcode0f at gmail.com

No I mean I am going to try factory resetting tomorrow and was wondering if there was a app or utility of some sort that will backup my installed Play apps so I don't have to reinstall everything when I reset. I tried clearing data from the Play Store but it still force closes as soon as I open it.

do you mind helping me do that? for some reason adb shell cmd is giving me "Device not found"
i'll add you on gtalk or something
edit: nvm i see you wanted me to get the app, one sec i'll have to go into recovery to move the apk onto it.
now once i get it on, do i have to try to connect to wifi and then take the log cat?

OK, how do I get to recovery? No go from kfu, adb, goo manager. Am I missing something?

You want to go into TWRP Recovery?
Turn off device
Turn on device, then hold down power button until
a) If you have FFF1.4a a little menu will come up at the bottom and select Recovery
b) If you have an older version of FFF, the power LED will turn orange.

thanks so much. been using kfu for that. knew there was a way.

USB and ADB Mount
Hi, I installed the latest rom doing just a cache and dalvik wipe and could not mount USB or ADB except in Recovery. I reinstalled the rom including a factory wipe and now can mount USB and ADB normally. Everything works beautifully. Thank you Hash.

Ok new issue. USB charging does not work! I tried unplugging and replugging, no go. Only way I can get it to charge is with the AC adapter. Also Hash, how is work coming along on the 3.0 kernel. Will the charging light issues be fixed soon? Not rushing you, just was wondering how much progress is being made.

Ok all. I think I might have fixed the extreme battery drain on this ROM. Turn off location sharing in accounts>your account>maps>location sharing and set wifi settings to disable wifi when in sleep mode. Charge your kindle to 100 percent and do a battery stats reset in TWRP. I am now getting 80% remaining after 20 hours on battery. Hope this will fix the battery problems you might be having.:fingers-crossed:

Thanks for the tip, seems like turning the wifi off when in sleep mode would be common sense but it definitely went over my head. Saving a ton of battery already!

[q] a few questions (battery, missing market, fc youtube)

sorry if some of these questions have already been asked and answered. unfortunantely, my computer crashed due to a manufacturing flaw so I can only access google and this forum via my epic (which can be a pain sometimes). also, since heros threads are always deleted, I cannot ask these questions there. please, any feedback and help would greatly appreciated.
okay so I reflashed backed snack 1.6 w/ ultimate after testing some of the newest froyo builds. id rather wat until I get the official ota upgrade.
after reflashing 1.6 for some reason, android market doesn't appear to be installed. where can I download the application? I even tried reflashing 1.6 over itself but that didn't work.
also, I'm using the new gingerbread youtube but I signed in and now I get a constant fc when I try to open it. how can I fix this? if I can't, where can I download an earlier version of youtube?
another question. this time about battery. using 1.6 w/ ultimate, I get fairly decent battery. only problem is, my battery stats say that my display and standby are what is killing my battery the most. nothing ever runs in the background, every so often I unlock my phone to either check the time or texts or facebook real quick, brightness is on its lowest setting, silent mode, juicedefender running correctly (battery life: x1.56), no data running in the background, drm killed, battery calibrated and battery stats wiped, and everything else possible to to save battery.
and something I'm noticing now that the phone is charging, the battery is quite hot and I'm not even using the phone. it only overheats when its charging and I've also noticed that its only hot when I use certain roms/kernels. any insight on this issue? any way to monitor and regulate temperature?
once again, any help would be appreciated!

Ill take a stab at these. Reason for you market not showing, can't say? Did you wipe 3 times before flashing bs 1.6?
Also never sign in on gingerbread youtube on 2.1 build. I don't think anyone has got that working yet. Simply clear the cache for youtube and you should be set.
Lastly, I don't know what to say about your bettery.. what do you have setcpu running at? Do you have profiles to lower your phones speed when in standby? Couldn't hurt to give it a shot.
Sorry about your computer, all my info is based on personal experience don't really have a "dev" type answer for ya. But hope some of this helps.
Goodluck!

thank you for your reply.
yes I did wipe both data, cache, and davlik 3 times. I guess I will do that now and report back.
how would I go about clearing the cache for one specific app? I know I can do that when I open up my settings and go to app development but youtube doesn't show up in that list.
setpcu is oc at 1300 and uc at 200 conservative. profiles are as follows:
charging/full - 1000 and 200 conservative
battery < 15% - 800 and 400 conservative
screen off - 600 and 400 conservative
yeah, brand new computer too. all of a sudden it couldn't recognize the hard drive. and yes, most of my info is based on personal experience and creeping on forums.
edit: wiped everything 3 times and reflashed. market till not appear.

For youtube I just open it up without a data connection and step through the process of signing out only enabling data when needed.
If you're missing market then you need to flash back stock with odin then start fresh. Baked doesn't remove market at all. If anything it's the fastest responding market I've used.
Heat from the battery is usually caused by programs requesting cycles or data. Just restart the phone before bed after your initial battery calibration.

as I stated, I have no computer at the moment. so using odin to go back to stock is out of the question as of now. hopefully there's got to be another way without using odin. if not then I suppose I'm stuck in this predicament until I get my computer back from geek squad. and yes, I've never had a problem with heroes work before. but for some reason, this is happening.
and as I've stated before, no programs or data run in the background on my phone. after initial calibration I rebooted it. and after every boot, I toggle airplane mode on and then off. ill continue to moniter battery temps and see if the problem persists.

Sorry bout that, I did read over that you hadn't had a computer. I overlooked it though. It just sounds like you might have somehow of gotten a corrupt install somehow.
Maybe you can try reinstalling 1.6 over top of itself. I don't really see anything wrong with that, but as stated before though. Make sure you wipe cache and dalvichk 3 times each before you do so.

[Q] JPF problems

Situational update: I am now running JPM. GPS problem fixed, but battery life is a complete nightmare: full charge during night, 8 hours later only 30% left (after 2 reboots because the battery dropped suddenly) with only 3G running.
I am using Quick Settings, Titanium, K9 Mail and nothing else. GPS is not on. Wifi is not on. What can I do? Also, phone temperature is rather high compared to 2.1.
Old situation:
Hi everyone!
Firstly thanks for all the info on the i5800, I have read a lot & come to understand everything better.
I am a complete n00b so sorry for any dumb questions. I recently upgraded my i5800 from stock 2.1 to FROYO.XXJPF as I had problems with the files of JPM (no .tar, no idea how to make them .tar) via ODIN. All seems to work well except three (important!) things:
- GPS doesn't fix, even with Octy's both apps & everything else I have tried
- phone temperature is through the roof, feels warm all of the time
- battery life is shortened considerably: full charge yesterday until 9AM, at 10PM is was at 10 percent with 5' calls, bit of browsing, 10' of tinkering with GPS. After reboot I had 30% battery life. I then installed CPU Tuner & still have 30% 12h later. Temperature is also down because of CPU Tuner when the phone is idle but when I start using the phone it heats up quickly again...
GPS is a big thing for me, so too is battery. Anyone any ideas? Typical JPF issues?
Also, when I did the upgrade to JPF, I had an /esf backup, app backup & contacts backup but all the rest was gone afterwards... Is there any way to keep app settings (e.g. email account settings, ...)?
And, is there an alternative to ROM Manager that does work for our phones?
Try out the Custom ROMs...Kyrillos ofc.. the best stable version out there!
if u have problem about this ROM...just PM me...

Hi,
First of all I would advice to install JPM, not JPF. The rar from samfirmware does have a tar inside and it can easily be flashed using ODIN. The link and instructions are on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
Also don't restore any backups after flashing a new firmware, you may be creating version problems restoring files that are meant for another firmware.
If you want to backup your contacts just export them to a .vcf file in the contact app and import them later from the file after flashing.
Finally, do a factory reset and wipe the cache before and after flashing.
So shut down the phone, hold home + vol.up + vol.down, turn on, select factory reset from the recovery menu, then select wipe cache.
Then shutdown the phone, hold home + vol.down, turn on, connect usb to computer. Flash with ODIN.
After flashing do the factory reset again with same method as above and after reboot import contacts from .vcf.
That should give you Froyo without any problems.
Thank you both.
Bakayoyo, I just followed your instructions and am now booting a factory reset/swiped cache JPM. I will report back! Thanks for your detailed & clear instructions, that makes everything a lot easier...
Lastly: I keep having the issues with the JPM download via the XDA-thread. Via the Samfirmware website there is no problem... The download there is just a .rar that unrars to a .tar package.
EDIT: GPS is functioning. Will report back for battery life & temperature. Thanks a million, Bakayoyo!
Ok update time. Battery problem still occurs: full charge tonight and at 60% after 5 hours with only 3G running and nothing else... I had adfree installed, threw that off. Now only Titanium, K9, Quick Settings running. What to do and what is causing this? Phone feels hot too...
EDIT: see first post, now at 30% by doing nothing, only 8 hours after full charge...
It is better if you use task killers. I am using jpm and my battery is fine gives me a whole day even with 3g. Apps running in background consume battery.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
I did some research and found out I probably screwed up with settings in K9 as I had push accounts poll every minute...
I have 3 push accounts that are now only pushing and 1 POP account that is set to poll every 5 minutes. I'll see what this does to battery life, as I did not even get 12 hours of only 3G before it fell out today.
I read a lot of warnings on ATKs on 2.2...

r u sure? i dont think so... if u kill apps running on background, they will reload later again itself. and killing and reloading apps all the time is consuming battery
Well when you use apps like facebook, music players, video players etc. They run in background even when not needed to. For backgrounds services you have task killers which have options of not killung these services. Personally i kill each app and service. Due to this my battery life has been extended by a whole.

Try InDroid 3.0 . Any version.(There are 4). GPS Perfect! About battery life , User review is enough.
GPS is fine since JPM.
Battery was being eaten by K9, even with correct push settings. I uninstalled it, and went back to standard email app. Result: phone temperature back to normal, battery life back to normal. So all is fine now! Only issue that remains is that incoming calls screw up the battery meter, reboot fixes this (this was already an issue in stock 2.1). Very annoying!

battery % is a safety issue so your battery doesn't over charge and explode. If you insist on having a 100% charge, when it says charged but is only at 95% (or more commonly 97%) unplug the phone and plug it back in and google trickle charging to get a good idea of why this happens. 2g/3g toggle has been an issue for lots of people since early on but most are reporting that it is working fine for them now. May be time for a good total wipe and fresh install. I found that not using titanium backup for my apps has improved the performance of my phone pretty signifigantly. Just be sure to backup all your saved game data and reinstall all your apps the old fashioned way.

You're sort of right about the charging issue, technically the phone STOPS charging at a certain percentage. The issue with trickle charging is that it doesn't stop charging. The issue is that the phone should charge to 100% then stop and start up again (for example on the Evo it drops down to 90% before kicking back in) however the Nexus S after 2.3.3 charges only to 97-ish%. This is not how it is supposed to happen though I've not seen anyone who was adequately able to explain why it was screwed up in the newest update.

Only thing I can think is to let your phone charge all the way down till it shuts off and then charge it back to full while turned off. This has helped me in the past.

I recommend only backing up user apps + data, as backing up system data sometimes will give you problems. Once in TB click you setting menu and sellect batch. Now click the option that says backup user apps +data and confirm. Now when you wipe your data in CWM and do a fresh install just install TB from the market and use the same batch menu but instead of backing up user apps + data use the restore user apps + data option.

Now when you wipe your data in CWM and do a fresh install just install TB from the market and use the same batch menu but instead of backing up user apps + data use the restore user apps + data option.

So check this out: Titanium Backup was giving me trouble. Maybe six or seven apps into the backup, it would freeze, and then reboot (RC2, RC3, AND RC4). After a few reboots, the phone turned back on and said that the SD Card was unreadable and that it had errors, I rebooted it with a few swift battery pulls and all is good. In closing: I successfully backed everything up.
Now, I still kept getting reboots on RC2, 3, and 4. I could not think of why, and then it dawned on me, that it's probably the kernel I installed for BLN and 1.4GHz overclock. I installed h14-blnV4-vs6-cm7.zip.... Could this be the reason I am getting reboots? Because in SetCPU I changed it from 1400MHz to 1000MHz ondemand and I haven't yet come across a reboot. So, it could be the kernel and not CM7, RIGHT??
And if that's the case, is there a better kernel out there? or should I just be careful when overclocking?
Thanks

Same problem here, it totaly kills the radio. Reboot doesnt help only reflash helps.
Tested on fresh install (wiped everything before) without custom kernel, even without any app installed.

[Q][I9505] No deep sleep - msm_hsic_host

Hi everyone. I managed to get my hands on a beautiful blue I9505, had some issues while SIM unlocking it, but that's done and I am enjoying the phone very much.
Now, I do have a problem with it. The thing is, it simply will NOT go to deep sleep. Constantly hovering on 384 MHz with msm_hsic_host using a massive 90+ percent of awake time. It is driving me nuts. Our colleagues and friends over at Nexus 4 forums had an identical issue, and I read 57 pages of posts and used all their tips and tricks. Nothing helped.
Attached to this post you can see:
- the original Nexus 4 forum topic - [Q] msm_hsic_host - Nexus 4 forums
- The Google Code page where people complained about this - Google Code - Issue 41855 - "msm_hsic_wakelock" process on Nexus 4 causes severe battery drain
- my battery usage and BBS stats - attached to this post
- Qualcomm's fix for the issue - link 1 and link 2 at Code Aurora
I can't make heads or tails of any of this. The only thing that remains to do today (which I will do) is to flash a custom ROM and kernel for my I9505.
Thanks to anyone who will chime in to this discussion.
Bump - nobody else has this problem? Can you at least share your configurations so I can experiment a bit?

99% chance that some app you installed is causing the wakelock. Install BetterBatteryStatts to determine wich app causes deep sleep/wakelock issues.

I do have BBS as can be seen on the screenshots. I can't find the culprit since I believe it's the system itself.
I had this problem and it turned out to be avg pro app keeping it awake

I don't have such an app. Wakelock detector reports no odd stuff.

clear dalvik cache and see again if it does enter Deep sleep or not, as everyone said its an application if not it must be a setting like sync, scan, or even that damn old wifi advanced settings that kept usual phones awake... reconfigure.
Insomnia
My phone won't sleep, won't time out and tapping the power button won't shut off the display. This happened just after deleting bootsamsung.qng, samsungloop.qng and shutdown.qng.
I'd replace the three deleted files, but they just grew and replaced themselves minus the carrier logo. The Baseband version now says: unknown. I stopped and installed google maps, that didn't help.
The good news is, those pink blocks are gone. The bad, I did a factory reset and noticed my cell network connectivity is gone. Maybe that's the sloppy work cutting down the SIM, or maybe something else? I've reinserted that sucker a dozen times and no joy. Do you know if the phone will stay awake without cell service? Putting it in airplane mode doesn't help.
Any suggestions? Thanks for your consideration.

Cleared Dalvik, will keep an eye out (though I don't know how can it help)...
Wiping Dalvik did not help. I will try a factory reset later this afternoon and let the phone be for an hour or so without any apps installed.

Same problem here, my msm_hsic_host accounts for ~99% of the wakelocks according to BBS, even when the phone is in airplane mode and Wifi is off.
I'm running stock MDC firmware & kernel, rooted though.

Read this about the wakelock, has to do with bad/lower 3g connections:
http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...3jjunrjohBvz3zaNvrYSO5g&bvm=bv.46751780,d.d2k
Thanks for the link.
This seems to be a logical explanation, but I've disabled 3G, and it still happens.
Plus it happens when in airplane mode, without any (cell) activity. I'm pretty sure that the kernel isn't configured properly.
Is there a known kernel / stock firmware version where this problem is fixed?
It appears that I have solved my problem.
I reset the device to factory settings and then restored apps, 5 by 5 in 30 min intervals. I still haven't restored all my apps, but so far I restored some 80%, here is the current state of things.
Very interesting.
Please keep us posted once you find out which app caused the problems, or if the factory reset fixed it.
Did you freeze or uninstall any apps?
Did you remove the T-Mobile bloatware?

I froze the same apps I had frozen before. If I find the app that caused the problems, I will report back. So far it's all good, 6h of use and I'm at 87% battery, wifi and 3G always on
P.S. I have Wanam's 1.0 installed
EDIT: 22h30 min, 2h4min screen on time, 48% battery.
I'd say that's an okay result.

What app was the problem?
I have a problem with this wakelock, use about 10-25% of battery time

You know what, I can't really say. Since the factory reset I restored all my apps and never had the problem since. Really weird issue. 25% can be bad. I had 99.4%

So, if I give you my app list, can you identificate what you used before wipe?
Maybe can will know what apps are potentially to reproduce the problem

Issues with Device Admin and Find My Device

I have the OnePlus 6T International, on OxygenOS 9.0.6. I disable the Device Admin of "Find My Device." I have a different app that does the same and more. I disable the "Find My Device" and later (days, hours, minutes, IDK) I go back into the Device Admins and it is turned on again! I do not want it turned on. Why is this app allowed to turn it even though I explicitly turned it off? How do I block this app from turning on again? Is there a way to "Freeze" the app in Titanium Backup? I have googled this all over and all I can find is how to turn it on, not how to prevent it from turning itself back on.
No one else is having this issue???
My 6t has the same strange behavior.
I'm on oos 9.0.7. International 8\128 model
Wiped cache from the recovery after every system update
Also wiped the full data and cache after the 9.0.5 >> 9.0.6 upgrade.
EDIT: 9 hours later, the settings are still retained. Will keep you updated.

I have the 8/128 mirror black from the OnePlus website. I have had this issue since 9.0.5. I am on 9.0.7 with root and Elemental X kernel. I noticed the issue when I only used root. I think I had the same issue on my OnePlus 5
I'm on stock and unrooted.
I think i noticed this when i was on 9.0.6 but now that I know you also noticed the bug from long time, I think that's just because i didn't pay attention on 9.0.5
I'm testing, and looks like Find My Devices is enabled back as admin app after each reboot, at least for me.
Does it work the same for you?

Yes, this is exactly what it is doing for me. I posted about it in the official update thread, but no one responded.
This issue is also happening to me. Not sure if it is enterily caused by the find my device functionality but my battery life is crap. During night I can loose 10 or 15% without any screen time. The most I ever had is about 4hours sot

I am not having any SOT issues like this. I get 6+ hours of SOT. What version are you on? Are you using root? Custom kernel?
No root, stock. Also disabled everything regarding location, nfc, Bluetooth, etc. This is really bugging me as I see I am one of the few with bad battery life. I am on 9.0.7 now, same thing since 1st day 9.0.4 I think.
For the battery consumption analysis, I suggest to get BetterBatteryStats and dig deeper
I have no problems atm with SOT related to this "find my device" trouble.
After every reboot i go on disabling the admin app rights.
I have that app but it need root or a special type of authorization to work properly using adb. I am patiently waiting for a working twrp so I can customize the system with root. Do you think I am having other issues on top of this find my device? I even uninstalled a lot of apps already to try and isolate the culprit.
No root needed, as i said I'm on stock/unrooted/locked_BL, you just have to grant BBS 3 rights, via adb, to dump battery usage and this kind of info.
You just need to run 3 commands from a shell on an adb enabled pc.
Without required info, it's almost impossible to say what's the source of your drain.
Anyway I doubt that's related to the "Find my device" stuff, maybe mail settings or IM/Social apps.
Authorize BBS via adb and then check on the BBS' thread how to log and analyze logs &/or ask for help
Cheers

There must be an app you have installed that is preventing the phone from going into a deep sleep state. Check the battery in settings to see if it lists any app using more battery than all other apps. I had that issue once and just removed the app and never had the issue again.
Last thing you try is a factory reset. Sometimes old settings cause issues with a new system and just need to be whipped away.
OK, so I gave the necessary permissions to better battery stats and i now have a report. This is from having the phone idling during sleep, it lost about 15% without screen On time. What is wrong here? Can you help me interpret the data?
And from the battery menu.
Edit: made a topic for my issue.

Looking at the long one, it looks like you have an app or something taking a wake lock and not letting go of it. When did this battery issue start? Like, did it start when you started using 9.0.7 or before?
Check on BBS thread how to take a correct log and ask there for a competent advice, sorry but i'm unqualified for it
cheers
