[q] a few questions (battery, missing market, fc youtube) - Epic 4G General

sorry if some of these questions have already been asked and answered. unfortunantely, my computer crashed due to a manufacturing flaw so I can only access google and this forum via my epic (which can be a pain sometimes). also, since heros threads are always deleted, I cannot ask these questions there. please, any feedback and help would greatly appreciated.
okay so I reflashed backed snack 1.6 w/ ultimate after testing some of the newest froyo builds. id rather wat until I get the official ota upgrade.
after reflashing 1.6 for some reason, android market doesn't appear to be installed. where can I download the application? I even tried reflashing 1.6 over itself but that didn't work.
also, I'm using the new gingerbread youtube but I signed in and now I get a constant fc when I try to open it. how can I fix this? if I can't, where can I download an earlier version of youtube?
another question. this time about battery. using 1.6 w/ ultimate, I get fairly decent battery. only problem is, my battery stats say that my display and standby are what is killing my battery the most. nothing ever runs in the background, every so often I unlock my phone to either check the time or texts or facebook real quick, brightness is on its lowest setting, silent mode, juicedefender running correctly (battery life: x1.56), no data running in the background, drm killed, battery calibrated and battery stats wiped, and everything else possible to to save battery.
and something I'm noticing now that the phone is charging, the battery is quite hot and I'm not even using the phone. it only overheats when its charging and I've also noticed that its only hot when I use certain roms/kernels. any insight on this issue? any way to monitor and regulate temperature?
once again, any help would be appreciated!

Ill take a stab at these. Reason for you market not showing, can't say? Did you wipe 3 times before flashing bs 1.6?
Also never sign in on gingerbread youtube on 2.1 build. I don't think anyone has got that working yet. Simply clear the cache for youtube and you should be set.
Lastly, I don't know what to say about your bettery.. what do you have setcpu running at? Do you have profiles to lower your phones speed when in standby? Couldn't hurt to give it a shot.
Sorry about your computer, all my info is based on personal experience don't really have a "dev" type answer for ya. But hope some of this helps.
Goodluck!

thank you for your reply.
yes I did wipe both data, cache, and davlik 3 times. I guess I will do that now and report back.
how would I go about clearing the cache for one specific app? I know I can do that when I open up my settings and go to app development but youtube doesn't show up in that list.
setpcu is oc at 1300 and uc at 200 conservative. profiles are as follows:
charging/full - 1000 and 200 conservative
battery < 15% - 800 and 400 conservative
screen off - 600 and 400 conservative
yeah, brand new computer too. all of a sudden it couldn't recognize the hard drive. and yes, most of my info is based on personal experience and creeping on forums.
edit: wiped everything 3 times and reflashed. market till not appear.

For youtube I just open it up without a data connection and step through the process of signing out only enabling data when needed.
If you're missing market then you need to flash back stock with odin then start fresh. Baked doesn't remove market at all. If anything it's the fastest responding market I've used.
Heat from the battery is usually caused by programs requesting cycles or data. Just restart the phone before bed after your initial battery calibration.

as I stated, I have no computer at the moment. so using odin to go back to stock is out of the question as of now. hopefully there's got to be another way without using odin. if not then I suppose I'm stuck in this predicament until I get my computer back from geek squad. and yes, I've never had a problem with heroes work before. but for some reason, this is happening.
and as I've stated before, no programs or data run in the background on my phone. after initial calibration I rebooted it. and after every boot, I toggle airplane mode on and then off. ill continue to moniter battery temps and see if the problem persists.

Sorry bout that, I did read over that you hadn't had a computer. I overlooked it though. It just sounds like you might have somehow of gotten a corrupt install somehow.
Maybe you can try reinstalling 1.6 over top of itself. I don't really see anything wrong with that, but as stated before though. Make sure you wipe cache and dalvichk 3 times each before you do so.

Battery woes.... already?

I'm so confused.
Just got the mytouch 4g. Charged it, as it said in the book, until it was fully charged. Used it all day until it was drained and then recharged it this evening. Just looked at it now. In 5 hours since unplugging, it's down to 56%. 56!
So weird. And I barely use any apps. I made a conscious effort to keep it as clean as possible.
Help!
Hmmm alot of data is missing from your end but this is what I suggest as basic. Make your blacklight dim so it does not use alot of energy as this is the highest cause of battery drainage during actual awake time. Then disable any unwanted useless services from boot trust me there are lot and also disable them if they restarts. You can also use SetCPU taking you have OC based kernel then make profile to scale your mCPU based on max/avg/idle.
Best advice for you is don't charge the battery, get it low as 1% then do full charge and check your actual usage cycle the uptime/awake time later. Which rom are you using? OCing? if you don't need it just underclock it no need to OC just for the hell of it.
sounds like u need to turn off your network connection

when i leave my 4G/3G/Edge idle, it burns my batteries like mad
unless he has the screen on all day, i dont see how 5 hours would burn 50% of his batteries. even without killing all his task
No I was asking you to clarify as you mean to say completely disable data when you are idle? well you can do that if you have nothing that requires access but most folks have email and other elements that does require it. But yes it would improve it but that depends on him and how/what he has setup.
Whats your uptime/awake time with full bat cycle?
JuiceDefender does that, it disables the mobile data connection when the screen is off, but you can let some apps bypass that have it on every 15minutes or so to have it sync.
I've been playing around with it, and it does improve battery life, but it's not for me though, cause it does take a good 3-8 seconds until you get the "H" or your data connection back.
LOL I was curious and searched "Juice" my 8.1gb paid app archive of market that I just cURLed few days ago and came across UltimateJuice LOL so I guess ill run it. I have so many stuff... only if I could install it and test it but its not possible as its close to 11k apps.
Theres so much that can effect the batteries on these phones. Weak signal, apps running in the background, coutless things.
These are "super phones". I keepo a data cable in my pocket, and a car charger in the car at all times. My phone basically lives on the charger. Its easier that way. I know, not the answer you were looking for, but if you want your phone to do everything it was capable of then thats something you may have to deal with. You could turn all sync off and make sure nothing is ever doing anything in the background, but then whats the point in haing such an amazing phone?
C&P response from every other battery life thread:

The first thing to check is if your phone is being affected by the init or suspend bugs. The good news is the former has an easy fix, and the latter can be temporarily fixed by a reboot.
First, download & install Watchdog Lite from the market. Then open its preferences and check "include phone processes," "monitor phone processes," and "display all phone processes." Then just use your phone as normal. It may take a while before you get an alert from Watchdog (and maybe you never will and it ends up you have a different problem). But if you do, note the process that is the culprit.
If it is the init process, go to settings>applications>development> check "usb debugging."
If it is the suspend process, reboot the phone. It should keep it from happening again for a while.
I know the second answer isn't really an answer, but so far it's all we've got for that problem. There is more information on the 2 problems in these threads:

Suspend:

Good luck...I had both of the problems and my phone didn't last to dinner time. Now I get better battery life than the iphone 3GS I had before this...over a full day of moderate use.

I'm not rooted at all. Although I gladly rooted my previous phone (3g slide) I don't want to root this phone because I don't know of any ROMs that are EXACTLY like this Sense stock ROM on here, just without the crapware (games, VVM, so on). Is there one?
Ya you can go take a look in Ice Glacier v1.1.6 see which you like the regular or themed version.
QL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844594
Battery life is all relative. Every single person will experience different battery life. The apps you have installed, the amount of time you spend on it and the time you spend on/in each app, distance from cell towers, distance from Wi-Fi sources, settings you have for every app and things like sync and what not.
I have the same problem at work (building)...poor reception = constantly reconnecting = major battery drain..

Thanks, I didn't think one existed. I just wish these cooks would put up some screenshots sometimes.
Quick unrelated question... is there any way I can JUST root for access to the phone and then delete the things I don't want with Titanium by myself. I really DO like the phone the way it is and I just wanna lose some of the network connected crap like the T-Mo faves, etc.
Thanks

Yes. You can just root and use the stock rom if you like. Use Titanium to freeze unwanted apps rather than uninstalling them. That way, if something starts behaving strangely, you can unfreeze apps to troubleshoot. Uninstalling system apps is permanent and Titanium doesn't backup system apks, only data. I haven't used it, but I believe Iced glacier is what you're looking for. The unthemed version is basically stock mt4g without bloat with some performance tweaks.

Thanks! You know, the thing is that with rooting, from my WinMo days when it was a really risky process, I developed this fear of rom flashing just because of the risk of screwing up. I know Android is much easier to flash with a ROM but it still freaks me out a bit and if it's not COMPLETELY necessary, as it was on the 3g slide I just had, I try not to do it. But I'll check out the unthemed Ice Glacier. I just wish I could see some screen shots or get an explained list of what mods are done to the stock rom on it.

The other thing you can do , if you like the stock ROM but just want to get rid of the bloatware, is to temp root using Visionary+, then use terminal, and disable the apps you don't want. I forgot where i saw it, but that's what I did and it works great. Also, if you ever want it back, it's not erased, just go back and enable it by typing "enable" instead of "disable" in the instructions below.
In Terminal Emulator (with root):
$"su" <enter>
#"pm list packages" <enter>
#"pm disable exact.NameOFApp.IncludingCase.SensitivityAnd.Periods" <enter>
#
You're done; it should be removed from your app drawer and everything. It will still show up in the package list, so if you want to enable it again, just pick it out of the list and follow the same directions replacing "disable" with "enable."

I don't get the concept of "temp rooting" vs real or full rooting. Does that mean it unroots if you reboot? What's the temp part?
That's it. Temp root goes away on reboot.

Alliance 7.7

OK, so I'm a noob (to evo) and can't post on the dev thread for the Alliance 7.7 ROM so I'm going to throw this out here and hope for a response.
I tried RLS1 and didn't like it, there was some functions that irritated me so I went back to 7.7.
I like 7.7, I've got it stable, no sense reloads and I love the functionality.
However, my battery life is atrocious!!! I thought this was supposed to help save batt life??? I burned about 50% batt life in less than 3 hours in sleep mode!??
What did I do wrong??
I've been experimenting with Task Killer, Juice Defender and other supposedly power "saving" apps and settings but I haven't found the "holy grail" yet.
I'd really like someone to point me in the right direction if at all possible..Thanks!
Did you try calibrating your battery when you first flashed the rom?
Try downloading the battery calibration app by nema from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
What PRI do u have? If you go into settings and about phone (I'm not exactly sure if that's the correct path) it should tell you. If your running something newer than 1.77 some phones have a wake issue where it wont let the phone sleep with newer PRI's. Try downgrading to 1.77, the wake issue should then be gone.
You can get PRI 1.77 from here just make sure you backup your WiMax keys before you flash, you know just in case something goes wrong. : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
Maybe its one of the apps that your using that's not letting your phone sleep hence your battery drain. Spare parts on the market should show you if any apps are keeping your phone awake.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidapps.spare_parts
Or your battery is going bad? I was having such horrible battery life with my Evo that after a while it just couldn't hold a charge anymore. I purchased a new one and all is well now.
Try an AOSP rom? AOSP roms tend to have better battery life than Sense roms. They don't have many services running in the background eating up memory.
I can't think of anything else anymore but hope this helps!

Our of stupidity but, how exactly can you back up your WiMax Keys? Where can you go? Lol sorry, feel free to troll on me for asking that

Lol Oh no none of that. I don't troll on anyone for not knowing something, we've all been there. Are you using amon ra recovery 2.3? If so, boot into recovery, go to backup/restore, nandroid backup and then it'll give u a list of things you might want to select to backup. Just unselect everything, select wimax and then select perform backup. It should take a couple of mins and then your done.
Actually I'm using ClockWork Mod 2.6 just seemed easier to me than AmonRa. (weird I know). but ok, nand back up and just select the WiMax info??
Also, v7.7 had an undervolt script built into it that some phones, mine included don't like. Might try flashing alliance rls2. Had the script removed.

one of the reasons I didn't like RLS1 was the way they had the personalize button set to open the Kingsrom website. Did they change that, or is there a way to change it?
oi, I had things going pretty well with 7.7 but it started getting glitchy and slow. Don't know why because once I had everything running smooth I didn't mess with it anymore. Reboot helped for a little while but started glitching again shortly after.
I decided to go to RLS2, it's running smooth but my lockscreen shortcuts have dissapeared and I can't get them back, any ideas on that??

no good, lock screen isn't displaying the way it should, tried several and nothing changes.
Did a factory reset and the lock screen is working correctly again. There must have been something that glitched when I restored my settings.
Tried restoring my backups and it the lock screen isn't right again. So I guess I either live with it or start from scratch again..

How I got my Battery Life Back!!

Through this forum and others, I was able to restore my battery life on the epic back to the 20 odd hours. I thought of writing my process here for the benefit of those who might be struggling with similar issues:
ROM: Clean GB
Tools: Better Battery Stats and Battery usage graph (BetterBatteryStats from the market. I think there is another one that is free. I will try and find it. However, the graph referred to is the one that is built it. When you see battery usage, click on the the top part and it shows the graph of battery drain. )
Observation: There is unusual usage of phone when the screen is off. The phone wakes up roughly once every 2-3 minutes even when the screen is off. Battery life between 3 and 5 hours. Emails do not sync or slow to sync.
1. Removing DRM files: The three said files were frozen using Titanium Backup. However, when I looked under battery usage/Android, I would still see DRM listed. So in the end, I UNINSTALLED all three files and the DRM was no longer listed. Not sure how much of a culprit it is but worth mentioning if you are freezing the files assuming they are not coming up. Check under Battery:
2. Calendar: This was the main culprit: Calendar storage was damaged on the phone and so, the phone was constantly polling to sync my calendar, in turn, running the battery down and making the phone slow. Cleared Calendar Storage using Titanium and that fixed the problem of syncing.
Emails:
1. Hotmail : Activesync (now on 1 hour polling)
2. Corporate: IMAP (1 hour)
(Above two running on Enhanced Email client). Not sure if standart client will also work, will test that and post later)
3. Gmail: using gmail app
Worth mentioning, that I used Enhanced Email and turned on logging to really see what was going on, hence coming to the issue of Calendar taking forever to sync.
3. SNS: The symptom was that SNS would be constanting restarting when seen under Applications/ Running services. Freezing the 2 sns files took care of that. Lost facebook status messages etc for contacts but made the phone faster.
4. KERNEL and CWM : Initially, although the phone was rooted, CWM was somehow, not FULLY installed. And for some reason, the phone would go to Sprint Recovery Menu. Also, worth mentioning, kernel usage was high. Installed the Clean_kernel and the latest CWM till I was satisfied the install was good and clean. A good way to test is to watch kernel usage on better battery stats and CWM behaviour when you go to Recovery.
5. Moved all content of SD card to PC and reformatted it. However, my SD card was fine, so did not see a change in performance, however, others might benefit, especially if you have movie files that the system is having a problem parsing.
I will add more if I think I missed something but doing the above took my phone from a paltry 3 hours on standby to more than 20 hours with usage. Totally acceptable and happy.
Hope this helps others.
Thanks, there's some interesting information in your post!
I cannot find either of those battery tools on the market... I also run clean GB...
I took into account what you mentioned, and removed SNS completely, hell I went a step further and just uninstalled the FB app. I will use the mobile site, and that is fine and dandy for me, I don't really need or want the constant notifications anyways.
I recommend the app Juice Defender, get the ultimate version, either pirate or paid, it is well worth it. Manages your 3g and wifi better, turns them off when the aren't needed, turns them on when they are. Really handy, has at least doubled my standby time.
I also recommend getting CPU Master, and having both it and voltage control on boot. CPU master lets you have profiles based on events, like the screen being off, or the battery getting to hot, again setup properly this also has done a number on my standby time.
Since I just flashed this kernel I haven't run a battery test yet, I am using Legendary 2.1 and IAP 2.0.6. Will run a test tonight to see how long the battery lasts for standby, hopefully it will turn on in the morning, it hasn't in the past very often.

The important part that I wanted to see was when the screen is off, is there any activity, meaning the phone is not truely speaking. At when the phone was at its worse, there was a activity roughly every 2 minutes. That was the main cause of the battery drain.

I cant say much about those tools cause I havent really used them. However, in my case, the problem was a bad calendar sync and SNS, I can see Juicedefender would maybe improve the battery life as it wont let the phone connect, but wont necessarily correct the issue at hand. Just my two cents.

FYI: I have the facebook app installed and it works fine. The problem is in the SNS when you put in your facebook info and it lets you sync fb events etc.
Also, by removing, I am hoping you mean you froze or deleted those two SNS files. Just watch Applications/Running to see if you see SNS there. If not, you are golden.
4hours of battery =) blazerRom is the best out right now. Thought it usually would be at 2% with 3g on and not wifi allday

My phone stays "awake" constantly. How can I figure out why it is staying awake??? I think that is a big part of my battery problems.

Betterbatterystats has a listing of programs under partial wake lock. See which is using up the most time.

I recommend the app Juice Defender, get the ultimate version, either pirate or paid, it is well worth it. Manages your 3g and wifi better, turns them off when the aren't needed, turns them on when they are. Really handy, has at least doubled my standby time.

I also highly recommend this app, and have realized enormous power savings from it. My phone takes microscopic sips of electrons when in standby with JD.
However, I most emphatically DO NOT recommend that anyone be a thieving, pond-scum, crook with the ethics of a crack whore and obtain a pirated copy of this app, as saramon has recommended above. The author if this app has spent a lot of their time developing it, and should be compensated fairly. It is one of the best supported, most often update apps around. For the value it provides, there really isn't any legitimate argument justifying stealing it to avoid a few bucks.
Shame, saramon, shame.
I purchased JuiceDefender but ended up uninstalling it. Much easier just to toggle wifi and sync on-off manually, rather than tweaking it constantly. I found that the app causes more connection hassles and permission annoyances which offset any battery saving benefits it offers, and is yet another ram-draining backround process that slows my phone.
Never said that I did, but not everyone can afford it, just sayin'

I had 2 questions. First, what exactly is SNS? I see it restarting a lot as well, but I've been afraid it was something important so I've always left it alone.
And how would ClockworkMod affect battery life? Doesn't that only come into play when going into recovery mode?
Thanks

If you have SNS restarting it's probably because you removed the stock "Feeds & Updates" widget that came with your phone. Either freeze SNS in Titanium Backup (rooted), put the F&U widget back on one of your screens (unrooted) or kill it after every reboot (unrooted and no F&U widget).

He's not suggesting that you did. He is just saying that you shouldn't suggest it to others.
Piracy is for children that want to feel savvy because they know how to steal Photoshop. Thepiratebay.org, kat.ph, isohunt, and the various novas aren't original or cool, everyone knows about them. The difference is that some people have grown up and understand that people that do work deserve to be paid for it.
Besides it is what? $2-3? Anyone with the intention to buy a product could afford that.
I bought After Effects, Sony Vegas, and Photoshop Elements. Elements I got on sale for $50. The others were a couple versions old and I got them for $300 and $150 respectively. I am a poor college kid. However, I know I can get a part time job and pay for the things I need and that's what I did. I only needed to work for about a month to buy all my software and now I have a legal license to use it. So Sony and Adobe won't try to steal the rights to everything I make >.>
In short, stuff only seems expensive if you have no intentions of paying for it in the first place. My family lives well below the poverty line and I still can afford a pretty decent production set up. I'm sure anyone could conjure up $2. It's less than a round trip bus ride.
I know this was long enough, but I figure I should mention this isn't an attack on you or anyone else. I feel very strongly about the subject and I would say this regardless of who brings the subject up. I have a lot of friends that disagree with me and I have pirated software in the past, I just think that people deserve the money they worked for. Perhaps prices could even go down if everyone actually paid for their software.
I got some life back out of my battery with CM7. Then went back to ERA legendary. I did all the following:
Wiped / reformatted the sd card, odined and repartitioned, odined ec05, odined CWM5, flashed ei22, flashed the rom, then kernel I wanted to try, multiple setups.... no avail. (Monitoring every combo with battery status)
What I have done now is repackaged the rom, removed the "stock" launcher (swapped for zeam) and a couple apks I though were pointless to me, and replaced the kernel so there is all only one flash. I am really starting to think mix_n_match flashing was causing an issue for me. Also, CWM 5 odined and not using the app is not giving me all the aformentioned issues or running as a background process...
So far my battery life is much better with one flash, but one thing I notice in all cases is after a reboot, better battery stats shows "system" under process tab, always highest on the list. Once charged it goes away until a phone call, reboot, and even after forced sync.

[q](STUCK) MULTIPLE ISSUES

Hey guys.
there are several major problems with my device.
first of all, lets see what we have here.
Exynos powered SM-N900 note 3 device
About 2 months old
rooted with CF- Auto Root
4.4.2 N900XXUDNA6_N900SERDNA6_SER firmware
that was the situation of device when the first problem showed itself.
Whiel i was watching video from an sd card, suddenly ı realised even if the device is on charge, (wall type) the battery percentage was dropping. when ı saw that, ı stopped watching the video, put down the phone and went to sleep. (it was 15 % at that time)
after 8 hours of proper sleep, I took my phone and saw that it was just 60%.
then ı began searching for slow charging issues. tried exactly everything about it, no luck. ( 5 different brands of different cables, 3 different brands of wall chargers, 2 different original note 3 batteries. tried both for AC and USB charging.)
All of them gave me the same result of charging current of 300 mah.
then ı tried all the wipe options, (wipe from recovery, factory reset from the settings menu, flashing another firmware which is CAC-N900XXUDNA8-20140210150816. ) still no luck. and things started to get worse.
a pain in the ass lag showed up, I'cant even use the camera. its like it comes and goes, but most of the time its there.
slow charging still continues, sometimes it does not charge at all,(had to reset couple of times) and when it charges, it's always 300 Mah and shows in the battery section as USB all the time ( even if I'm charging with the wall charger) ( already tried cache wipe for this, didn't make any difference.)
When I plug it to the PC, it does not recognize the device as a usb device, nor Kies, but ODİN does. (thankfully).
got this really weird screen, and some other screens close to it. (the screen actually faded away like in the picture ı uploaded. waited for it to go out for 10-15 seconds when ı pushed the wake button, the screen came itself just like nothing else happened 10 seconds ago!)
those are my problems, and the device is rooted, there is no warranty issue, so that means I'm stuck. it's not my first android device, and i consider myself just above average android user, but my hands are tied for this. any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!!
Really? No one can answer that?

Did u try charging when mobile is off?if not give a try
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I tried that. It kind of shortens the time of charging, but still, there are also other problems and some way ı think all of them are connected. That can be a solution only for slow charging, but the other issues still there.

I'm afraid that is also not a solution, because i already performed a full wipe and flashed a clean firmware, which cleared all 3rd party apps, still problems go on.
appreciate the effort though!

are you suggesting EFS back-up /restore?
By the way, i have fresh brand new issues!!
now device doesn't close, if i close it and connect it to a charger, it reboots itself to recovery mode!!!
ı discovered something about the lag issue. if i run the cpu enough, (like playing games) lag goes out. when ı quit the game, it turns back!!
I opened up cpu monitor from the developer options, everytime lag shows up, i see from the cpu list this thing:
irq/563-sii8240
I think this causes all of my problems.
any ideas???

Have you installed any apps to monitor battery drain? I use GSAM Battery Monitor and every time I start to see weird things with my battery, I have a look to see which app is running wild. Removing the app usually sets my phone back to very good battery life. The other day HD Widgets updated their app and all of a sudden I was dropping battery life about 15% per hour when hardly using the phone. HD was the culprit, removing it put me back to normal again. This happens often when companies update their apps.
One other thing, does you phone run hot? In the notification screen, you can see the current temp of your phone. If your battery is draining fast, it will run hot.
Thank you for the feedback. I downloaded the app, here are my first results. Do you think its normal that my kernel alone 74% ? I recently turned into cvm recovery, any ideas for alternative kernels?

GApps on Rooted LG V20

Does anybody know if we are able to flash any other versions of GApps on the rooted LG V20?
My V20 is from AT&T and since day one it has had terrible battery life. Where I was able to use my Note7 or Droid Turbo all day and still have battery left, the V20 eats the battery charge like Sally Struthers in a See's Candy warehouse. I mean, I have to charge this thing at least 2 times a day when I use it to search the web or any battery intensive purposes. I never had this problem on any other phone. I have been trying to find ways to improve my battery. I used Rom Toolbox Pro to disable all kinds of stuff, and it worked great, until my phone started Grand Mal seizing giving me the Google Play Services has to close notifications, which I then had to factory reset just to get my phone working properly again.
I would like to try flashing a minimal version of GApps that pretty much just has the play store and play store services. Are we able to do this on our V20's without having any issues? If you have any input at all I would really appreciate it.
IMHO it must be an app or two you have installed draining your battery like that. On a full charge I can a whole day and a little in to the next. I am a heavy user too. Are you blasting the brightness at 100% all the time? If so auto brightness will help a little. Go in to setting and see what is using that much drain

I was thinking it might be something I installed, as well. But I can't seem to pinpoint any apps that might be causing the battery drain. I keep the screen on auto brightness like you mentioned so it shouldn't be the screen. GSam almost always shows the Android System and Kernel (Android OS) at the top of the list of battery-draining apps. I love the phone, I just cannot figure out what is going on. I mean, I am not doing anything different than I have on my previous phones, and the V20 seems to be working fine. I thought maybe it is something with Nougat. I will gladly post some pics of app usage or data if it might help figure this problem out.

What rom are you on? Are you on stock white theme? I'm running a dark theme, which can help save a little juice. I'm also running as many team blackout apps as I can (many Google apps) to avoid all the whiteness. Just throwing out some ideas.

Interesting! I have never heard of Team Blackout Apps, they look pretty nice! Yes, I am on the stock ROM just the way it comes. I haven't changed anything at all. I have barely installed any apps just to see if I can find what is causing the battery to drain. Are there any other ROMs that work with the AT&T variant of the LG V20? It seems like they haven't made any yet for the AT&T V20. I am still waiting for Xposed to be released that is compatible with nougat so I can use Amplify.

I don't think there are any roms for AT&T variant atm. I did see an AT&T user flashed the stock deodexed rom by tilde88 in rom section. Not sure of all the details though. I'm assuming you would lose some functionality...would need to flash stock kernel as well.
What is your leading source of battery drain under system usage?

Yeah definitely, I think it is a little bit too early, for me at least, to expetiment with a deodexed ROM. But I know there will be some awesome developments coming out soon. I was so happy to see that a root was figured out for the V20 so quickly after it was released. Until then, I will keep experimenting with the stock ROM.

Hi Swizzle82, thank you for the reply. It is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint what the leading source of battery drain is because the apps seem to bunch all detected processes and wakelocks together. I know that Call Services & Android System show up on top a lot of the time, but since I factory reset the phone today, the stats are minimal compared to what I previously had. WeChat also uses resources, but I used that app all the time on my Note7 and previous phones, even more than I do now, and it never caused a problem. I attached some screenshots from GSam, BetterBatteryStats, Wakelock Detector, and CPU Spy Reloaded., I don't know if they will help, but just switching between those few apps and taking some screenshots over the span of 6 minutes, my battery percentage dropped from 79% to 76%.

I had android system for a while killing me.. I factory reset and setup every app one by one with no data transfer or anything. Installed every app like it's first install. I charged it til it reached 100 percent, with the phone plugged in, I went to data/system/batterystars.bin and deleted that file and rebooted. It was a long process but it hasn't been an issue since. This was when the phone first came out last month. Never knew which apps data it was but it is gone now.

That sounds like a good idea to try. I will do this today since I already factory reset it yesterday. I would rather do it now before I get further into using it again. I have not heard about this until you mentioned it so maybe there is an issue with app transfers with the V20 causing it. The battery does seem to drain less than before, but it seems like there are still some issues. Thank you for the suggestion!

If you followed did the dirtysanta method, make sure you flash the Konverged kernel for the H918. Or Tilde88's 5.1 kernel for the H918. It worked wonders on improving battery life. Also make sure you disable Lookout - that drains a lot of battery it seemed to me at least. I usually get about a day and a half of battery life when I use my normal amount (which is honestly quite a bit).

No, I had the Note7 before getting the LG V20. Before that I had a Note 4 and a Droid Turbo. This is my first LG phone and I really do love it. I actually like it more than the Note7, the only problem I have is the battery. I do think that factory resetting and manually installing the apps instead of restoring them will help, and using the Konverged kernel seems promising, from what I am reading.

Yup I always start fresh and install apps manually anytime I reset my phone. I think it's always nice to start fresh - even if it is sometimes a bit inconvenient to go through all the apps you've installed and choosing which ones to install. Hopefully you get it all sorted out!

Okay, I just factory reset the phone, rooted it with DirtySanta, and flashed the Konverged kernel and the phone is NOTICEABLY faster and smoother! This is great! Each time I reset the phone, it had noticeable lag. I just figured it would go away over time, which it did, and that it was because it had to load and download everything since it was fresh. But with the Konverged kernel, it has none of the lag and is silky smooth! Time to manually install the apps I want and disable some stuff I don't need. I will update you guys after I see how the battery is with the new setup Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate all the input!:good:
I need your help! I changed the screen cover sensor to off not realizing that I would not be able to turn off the static after rebooting my phone since the sensor is off. Would somebody please post a few screenshots showing how to navigate to the screen sensor settings so I can tap my way there and turn it back on? I am trying but there is no way to tell where to tap with all the static. Thank you!
Nevermind, I fixed it! I finally navigated to the second screen settings and turned it off when the screen is off and that got rid of the static after I turned the screen off then on again. Note to self, never do that again LOL.

Haha yeah, I never knew something like that could cause such a huge problem. Now I can't seem to find what I did to cause that in the first place. I have been looking through all of the settings and can't seem to find anything that affects the proximity sensor. On top of that, the screen rotation stopped working, it will not rotate when I turn the phone to the side to type. I have toggled all of the motion and second screen settings, calibrated the motion sensor, and nothing is affecting it. When I turn the main screen off, the sensor does not shut off the second screen when I cover it with my finger, and the phone does not recognize when I rotate the screen. I am kind of at a loss on how to fix it.
