[Q] MTP mode on Win XP? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Update: Disabling debugging mode allowed the driver to be found... DUH!
I can't seem to get MTP mode to work on my XP laptop. Been trying to use the Google driver in \Android\android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver but it just won't take it. The Asus site doesn't seem to have a driver either. I can use ADB by switching to PTP, but I'd really like MTP to work. I installed PDAnet but that also did not work. Any help appreciated.

[Q] Nexus 7 32GB doesn't appear in windows as MTP?

I just turned my nexus 7 32GB on and connected it to the same cable as the 16GB I just returned. It doesn't show up on my computer at all in MTP mode. Only in PTP mode. Any ideas on what to try?
*EDIT*
USB debugging is not on. Tried to install the asus drivers and got an error about there not being a driver for 64-bit in them, despite seeing the x64 drivers in the package.
Also, as MTP, my nexus 7 shows up as VID_18D1&PID_4E41&REV_9999
Again, that's with USB debugging disabled, it shows up only as an ADB device.
*RESOLUTION*
I uninstalled the ADB driver while it was plugged in with MTP mode. I unplugged it and replugged it and now it works fine.
is usb debugging on?
i got drivers from asus site.
deleted all references to N7 and rebooted windows.
un checked debugging on N7.
went to storage and checked mtp.
connected to windows.
when windows wants to install new MTP device, pointed it to the usb_driver folder..
windows installed MTP device..
this all happened to me today.. i am brand new for this device and the N7 board.
i spose this is fine for me but i would still like to see MyComputer show as USB mass storage..
i feel like the MTP doesnt show everything , limiting my access / control..
i would like to know how to do this,
thanx

you didn't uninstall all references to adb first. even if you have to go back to a restore point. then start over for Windows to install as mtp

[Q] PC always try to install MTP drivers with N7

I have a Nexus 7 that used to be able to be seen (and trnasfer files) on my Win 7 64-bit Ultimate pc. It is not visible in Explorer now- think it happened after upgrade to 4.2.2
I have tried various ways and means from this site and others but still unsuccessful. My pc kept wanting to install MTP USB drivers everytime I plug the N7 into it even when I have it set as PTP; and the drivers always failed.
I downloaded the Universal naked Drivers and tried to install it as well but problem is that my device only show up as MTP USB (under portable devices) instead of as N7; and under that the drivers is always the failed MTP USB drivers. I cannot browse to install Universal Drivers here cos the pc will not accept it.
Really running out of my wits. Any advises please?
Thanks.
I had initial problems connecting to my pc after installing all the drivers from a toolkit. After searching, I followed a tip and installed pdanet on my phone and pdanet for android on my pc. Now I connect exactly like my phone or other storage with full access to the user storage on the n7 from the pc. Win 7 pro 64bit.

[Q] Mass storage mode not working (Win 7)

Hello guys,
I just got my n10 and I love it I have one problem though. I have installed sdk and Google drivers, but still, the n10 doesn't show up in my computer, when plugging it in the computer. I've had no problems with my Nexus SIII or previous Android phones, so i'm kind a clueless on what could be wrong. I've enabled usb debugging also.
When changing the mode to camera mode on the n10, it works - an icon appears and i can transfer files.. Thats pretty odd, huh?
Any ideas? I would be grateful
The N10 does not do mass storage mode. It will only show up as a media device.

That was what I meant.. My bad But it doesn't show up as a media device
Uninstall the Android ADB driver (uninstall driver software too when it asks), and then hotplug the N10 from the computer, and MTP should work. You can then reinstall the ADB driver and MTP should still work.
At least on my machine, I have to reinstall the ADB driver if MTP doesn't just want to work.

[Q] Debugging on mac

Hi, I try to use my G2 with Android Studio for development but for some reason ADB doesn't recognize the phone!
Obviously I read around the internet. I've downloaded latest drivers, enabled debugging mode on my device and only thing left is that I dont see the option to use internet (Ethernet) when I plug my device into USB port. This is the step where everyone saying that it works if you do that.
I have a Mac not a PC. On PC it works fine. Any Ideas?
Nvm, Reinstalling the driver did the trick. thanks

If MTP, PTP does not work (If you can't acces phone storage with PC)

My Win10 Insider Preview machine did not recognize the phone. Nothing happened when I connected the phone and I could not access storage of the phone.
Below is the solution for it:
Go to Control Panel - Device Manager - LeMobile Android Device (could be under a different name. Choose the one that is your phone) - Update Driver - Manually Install a Driver - Let me pick a list of available drivers on my computer - MTP USB .

Uhm ... when you connected the phone to computer you changed the mode on phone from USB charging to MTP mode ?
In my Win10 x64 build 14392.447 not problem to see the phone in MTP mode after changing mode on phone.
Alternative solution is to use KDE Connect app over Wifi. Bonus is that once set up, it is possible to push files from the phone to the PC without any interaction on the PC side - e.g. useful if the PC doubles as a file server.

Both of my home & works computer (Win10 14959) failed to detect it as MTP or PTP drive. Might have been due to those having previous phone's drivers.
But I faced same problem with fresh out of the box Win8 laptop.
No issue with the MTP, however I can't seem to get adb to work. list of devices attached is showing empty.

Wanted to add my voice here too that I did the same - I had to clean up previous drivers I had installed over time for varios phones and different ADB versions like the one from clockworkmod - once I cleaned that out and installed google drivers from SDK PTP worked and I was able to do Helium restores
I had issue on my Win10 PC, but I found that after I disabled USB debugging, it would work as MTP/PTP, but not for ADB of course. So apparently, I have to toggle USB debugging ON/OFF to switch back and forth from MTP and ADB.
Small pain in the butt.
Solution.
I had the same issue. Drove me NUTS for about an hour. In the end, simply unchecked the USB DEBUGING in developer settings. This will make it pop up immediately.
Update:
I clearly should have read the post above mine first.
