I have 2 questions that despite a lot of searching has not yielded anything, and I just want to find out if I need to stop looking:
1. I like to open the camera app when double-tapping the home button. I can't find any setting in CM9 that would allow me the same thing - am I missing this?
2. Is there a setting somewhere that would change the screen rotation delay? I type texts horizontal screen and the wait for the screen to respond and rotate after I turned the phone sideways, is annoying. It would be much nicer if the screen rotated immediately when I rotate the phone, synchronously. I notice in the CM9 camera app, this rotation is much snappier, so it seems possible.
I can suggest this on your first question. I use Apex Launcher, and it's configurable right in behavior settings.

Thanks, I also found that item after I installed Apex last night. In other android OS's, this is a setting which is independent of the launcher.

I've been experiencing slow home page icon when I'm in landscape mode (keyboard).
When I close the keyboard, it takes about 6 seconds before the icons show up. Before the icons you see the background only.
Don't know if it may be a program I installed or an app using the memory?

same here, any luck?
Still having the same issue. I check appls running in background but couldn't see anything out of norm. I can't believe no one else is having this issue.
Help!

i just use adw and make it system persistent meaning it will not rotate, for some reason the home screen was the absolute worst application to rotate and so i decided it shouldn't need to. try it out and see which bugs you more, slow rotation or no rotation
mine rotates to home screen completely fine and fast. The issue is when I am in landscape mode (with the keyboard) and I close the keyboard to go back to portrait, it rotates but the icons/widgets does not show until 5-10 seconds later. it shows the background only.
Hi,
If i enable auto-rotation from the home screen, the home screen also rotates automatically creating a lot of lag. Is ut possible that the home is never rotated (always in portrait) whereas applications can rotate the screen?
Please let me know. It would be of great help.

Nandi
ok, so more info would have been helpul, you know. however, of course it is possible, this is android isn't it . You must have installed a different launcher since your home screen rotates. Look in the launcher settings, there should be a setting somewhere that will turn it off.
tl;dr launcher settings!
This is Froyo rooted on my G3. And the option is in the notification bar drawer. So it isnt becasue of the launcher.
did you even look!?!
Its the home screen! How can it not be launcher related!!
you are really frustrating, but I still explain it to you:
The same way that some other apps dont rotate, some launchers dont rotate, namely stock launcher. If you are using stock launcher the home screen wont rotate regardless of that option being checked or not!! Third party launchers provide the ability to rotate your homescreen! Most, if not all, will allow you to turn it off!!
Sooo go! Check your launcher settings!!
I'm using zeam and its under general. However, you are obviously not using zeam if you are complaining that it is slow.
Soooo go!! Check your launcher settings already!!
P.S. Depending on your launcher turning off rotation for the homescreen might include turning off rotation for the app drawer. I dont know if there are launchers that separate the two.

Make sure you have lagfix v2 installed on your phone. For more info, see general help in this forum!
I believe that 4.2.2 had lock screen widgets ... How on earth do I get them to work
I believe bbc news is one of the widgets bit I've tried every which way I can to get out to work
Please help

You can't use some lock screen widgets if you have a security lock screen thanks to Samsung being weird and annoying. Plus they removed the quick launch camera lock screen with their silly app matrix.
If you just use the slide to unlock feature then slide your finger from the top down and then left or right and you'll have the option of adding more.
You first have to enable them in the settings. Also you can enable quick camera instead of using the app matrix, you'll find that in the same place.... Main settings---> lockscreen ---> check the multiple widgets box. Tap the next box down to configure the quick launch camera as default instead of the app matrix should you choose.
I've seen a few people mention reluctance moving onto a 3rd party launcher because you lose the ability to turn off your screen by double tapping but there is a way you can do this with Nova and or other third party launchers with gesture controls.
1) Download a free app called Screen Off from Google Play and set it up
2) Set your Double Tap setting to launch Screen Off
Your screen will now turn off just as if you were using the LG launcher.
Alternatively, and with no need for a third party app, just double tap the status (notifications) bar

Or also at the navigation bar with tweaksbox.
Nova launcher comes with gestures where you can set to double tap anywhere to screen off.

Actually it doesn't (unless you're rooted maybe?)
Gestures that you can setup in native Nova do not include screen off.

Correct.....
The only way to do this is with a third-party app which I explained to everyone (thank you by the way for your thanks) in a different topic here.
For me, I just have xposed>gravity box
and go to nova sett.>gestures(need prime)>double-tap>shortcuts>gravity box>screen off.
DONE.

Where is "actions"? I only see Nova, Apps, Shortcuts. And I have Prime.

I have not been able to get the double tap gesture in nova to work at all. I've tried setting it to multiple different actions or apps, and no matter how fast or slow I double tap nothing happens. All other gestures work fine. For the time being I've settled with double swiping down to activate Screen Off.
Has anyone else had this problem with their G3 and Nova?

Look at my post above (post 6 in this topic) and click on the link I give.
This will take you to the topic where I mention what app to install and what actions you need to carry out in order to make it work.
Works fine for me. So far I have never pressed the power button on my G3.
Action Launcher Pro supports Double Tap to lock screen feature.
The problem I am facing with nova, apex...etc that I have exchange security enabled by my employer, all the guesters and third party apps that i tried is locking the phone with the Pin not just shutting the screen, the double tab on the stock launcher shuts the screen but does not lock the phone.
Did anyone find a work around using third party launcher or app ?
Thanks

Sorry Shortcuts
KK Launcher is pretty comparable to Nova and Apex, and it has native support built into it to double-tap your screen to turn the screen off. I've been using this launcher with my Nexus 5 for a while now and have been quite happy with it (compared to Nova). (I'm supposed to get my G3 later today, so I can't speak as to how KK Launcher performs on it yet).

That's exactly why I use the Touchdown app for my exchange mail. Don't have to worry about the exchange security requirement taking over my darn phone...

I believe the latest beta version of G3 TweaksBox has a setting to get around the security features when using Exchange. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
Thanks a million, its working like charm, now i can use whatever launcher.
I have Nova as well and works fine just double tapping the status bar. Seemingly works better than LG'S...
Seams like there are a lot of different ways that everyone has to do this.
For me, I have been using Tasker to get double tap off with Nova Launcher gestures since the G2. Tasker is such a great app with about a million uses, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I have it setup to auto connect to different wifi's depending on my location, adjust screen brightness/ringer volumes depending on the time of day, and many others.
Action launcher is the best
Hello,
I always use a gesture "one finger pull down" to pull down the notification shade, but it is not working for me on the S8 has anyone noticed the same?
I am currently using action launcher 3, but none of the launchers seem to do it for me.
Update, action launcher has been updated and it works now.
Yes. I have the same issue.
Settings > Advanced Features > Enable "Finger Sensor Gestures"
it's working for me, clear your fingerpring and try.. .... mine is S8+
It's not the fingerprint sensor that's not working it's the gesture on the home screen of pulling down. Normally I can swipe down anywhere in the home screen and pull down notifications and quick actions. Right now I have to get my finger all the way to the top. I have tried making the gesture a double tap as well as a two finger pull and nothing works.
I have exactly the same issue! I submitted a bug request with action launcher, in case its a problem with that app. Perhaps you should do that too?
It's not the app. I'm fortunate enough to have Verizon which still allowed the Bixby button to be remapped. (the first time I'm actually happy they are slow at rolling out updates lol). That being said I remapped that button to open notifications and its fine. However using Nova launcher which uses what I assume is the same accessibility interception doesn't work. Hopefully a work around is found so this phone is more usable with one hand.
Definitely an issue with 3rd party launchers and the s8 fingerprint sensor

I have the same issue. Guess i have to get used to use the fingerprint swipe, until they fix it.
Working for me as well.
Did you activate launcher's service in settings>accessibility>services?
Its disabled by default, you have to enable it in the settings, but to be honest, that feature is useless unless you are missing fingers on your hand. and youll end up smudging your camera in the process.
Yeah sure did... Still mot working
I have the same issue using Action Launcher 3. I also have the app ticked in Accessibility.
Everyone who is saying it IS working is misunderstanding the issue. It's not a case of swiping the fingerprint sensor not working, it's a case of launchers that use shortcuts to access the notification shade. For years, I've used Action Launcher 3 where a single finger swipe down OF THE HOMESCREEN brings down the notification shade - that doesn't work anymore. And given the height of the S8 duo, this is the time we need it the most.
It does not work because swiping up/down now brings up app drawers. It is by design. Maybe try disabling app drawers a la iOS style?
You just need to enable Action Launcher in Settings->Accessibility scroll all the way down to services.
(I hope those is the right names, my phone is not set to english)
Looks like Nova Launcher Prime does work for me as long as Accessibility is activated so this problem is mostly just a Action Launcher problem. I remember at one point he moved away from needing accessibility to utilize this feature and maybe its default setting is to not utilize it any longer. I really want to stick with Action Launcher so hopefully the developer will come through with the old way through accessibility.

Ok found a solution but its annoying. If you have Action Launcher and Nova Launcher (Prime may or may not be needed) you can still use action launcher primarily but you'll need to utilize Nova Launcher's action short cuts. So here goes...
1. Open Action Launcher Settings
2. Go to shortcuts
3. Go to swipe down
4. Assign single finger to "Shortcut" > Nova Action > Select Expand Notifications in this menu.
??? profit

GENIUS.
I found another solution as well! works very good.
Install the app "drop down status bar"(WangQi) from play store and then use this app as a shortcut for that gesture you want.
