Hello,
I always use a gesture "one finger pull down" to pull down the notification shade, but it is not working for me on the S8 has anyone noticed the same?
I am currently using action launcher 3, but none of the launchers seem to do it for me.
Update, action launcher has been updated and it works now.
Yes. I have the same issue.
Settings > Advanced Features > Enable "Finger Sensor Gestures"
it's working for me, clear your fingerpring and try.. .... mine is S8+
It's not the fingerprint sensor that's not working it's the gesture on the home screen of pulling down. Normally I can swipe down anywhere in the home screen and pull down notifications and quick actions. Right now I have to get my finger all the way to the top. I have tried making the gesture a double tap as well as a two finger pull and nothing works.
I have exactly the same issue! I submitted a bug request with action launcher, in case its a problem with that app. Perhaps you should do that too?
It's not the app. I'm fortunate enough to have Verizon which still allowed the Bixby button to be remapped. (the first time I'm actually happy they are slow at rolling out updates lol). That being said I remapped that button to open notifications and its fine. However using Nova launcher which uses what I assume is the same accessibility interception doesn't work. Hopefully a work around is found so this phone is more usable with one hand.
Definitely an issue with 3rd party launchers and the s8 fingerprint sensor

I have the same issue. Guess i have to get used to use the fingerprint swipe, until they fix it.
Working for me as well.
Did you activate launcher's service in settings>accessibility>services?
Its disabled by default, you have to enable it in the settings, but to be honest, that feature is useless unless you are missing fingers on your hand. and youll end up smudging your camera in the process.
Yeah sure did... Still mot working
I have the same issue using Action Launcher 3. I also have the app ticked in Accessibility.
Everyone who is saying it IS working is misunderstanding the issue. It's not a case of swiping the fingerprint sensor not working, it's a case of launchers that use shortcuts to access the notification shade. For years, I've used Action Launcher 3 where a single finger swipe down OF THE HOMESCREEN brings down the notification shade - that doesn't work anymore. And given the height of the S8 duo, this is the time we need it the most.
It does not work because swiping up/down now brings up app drawers. It is by design. Maybe try disabling app drawers a la iOS style?
You just need to enable Action Launcher in Settings->Accessibility scroll all the way down to services.
(I hope those is the right names, my phone is not set to english)
Looks like Nova Launcher Prime does work for me as long as Accessibility is activated so this problem is mostly just a Action Launcher problem. I remember at one point he moved away from needing accessibility to utilize this feature and maybe its default setting is to not utilize it any longer. I really want to stick with Action Launcher so hopefully the developer will come through with the old way through accessibility.

Ok found a solution but its annoying. If you have Action Launcher and Nova Launcher (Prime may or may not be needed) you can still use action launcher primarily but you'll need to utilize Nova Launcher's action short cuts. So here goes...
1. Open Action Launcher Settings
2. Go to shortcuts
3. Go to swipe down
4. Assign single finger to "Shortcut" > Nova Action > Select Expand Notifications in this menu.
??? profit

GENIUS.
I found another solution as well! works very good.
Install the app "drop down status bar"(WangQi) from play store and then use this app as a shortcut for that gesture you want.

I've seen a few people mention reluctance moving onto a 3rd party launcher because you lose the ability to turn off your screen by double tapping but there is a way you can do this with Nova and or other third party launchers with gesture controls.
1) Download a free app called Screen Off from Google Play and set it up
2) Set your Double Tap setting to launch Screen Off
Your screen will now turn off just as if you were using the LG launcher.
Alternatively, and with no need for a third party app, just double tap the status (notifications) bar

Or also at the navigation bar with tweaksbox.
Nova launcher comes with gestures where you can set to double tap anywhere to screen off.

Actually it doesn't (unless you're rooted maybe?)
Gestures that you can setup in native Nova do not include screen off.

Correct.....
The only way to do this is with a third-party app which I explained to everyone (thank you by the way for your thanks) in a different topic here.
For me, I just have xposed>gravity box
and go to nova sett.>gestures(need prime)>double-tap>shortcuts>gravity box>screen off.
DONE.

I have not been able to get the double tap gesture in nova to work at all. I've tried setting it to multiple different actions or apps, and no matter how fast or slow I double tap nothing happens. All other gestures work fine. For the time being I've settled with double swiping down to activate Screen Off.
Has anyone else had this problem with their G3 and Nova?

Look at my post above (post 6 in this topic) and click on the link I give.
This will take you to the topic where I mention what app to install and what actions you need to carry out in order to make it work.
Works fine for me. So far I have never pressed the power button on my G3.
Action Launcher Pro supports Double Tap to lock screen feature.
The problem I am facing with nova, apex...etc that I have exchange security enabled by my employer, all the guesters and third party apps that i tried is locking the phone with the Pin not just shutting the screen, the double tab on the stock launcher shuts the screen but does not lock the phone.
Did anyone find a work around using third party launcher or app ?
Thanks

Sorry Shortcuts
KK Launcher is pretty comparable to Nova and Apex, and it has native support built into it to double-tap your screen to turn the screen off. I've been using this launcher with my Nexus 5 for a while now and have been quite happy with it (compared to Nova). (I'm supposed to get my G3 later today, so I can't speak as to how KK Launcher performs on it yet).

I believe the latest beta version of G3 TweaksBox has a setting to get around the security features when using Exchange. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
Thanks a million, its working like charm, now i can use whatever launcher.
I have Nova as well and works fine just double tapping the status bar. Seemingly works better than LG'S...
Seams like there are a lot of different ways that everyone has to do this.
For me, I have been using Tasker to get double tap off with Nova Launcher gestures since the G2. Tasker is such a great app with about a million uses, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I have it setup to auto connect to different wifi's depending on my location, adjust screen brightness/ringer volumes depending on the time of day, and many others.
Action launcher is the best
I know nova launcher offers this, and I know you can use the fingerprint reader as well.
Is there an app that allows for this feature while leaving the stock launcher intact?
This thread didn't offer any solutions.
Thanks

This is unrealistic. Because swiping down in other apps has different functionality. Even in the app drawer of Nova you can't swipe down to pull down the notification bar.

Well, even the launcher is more or less just an app.
You have to use other gestures or remapped buttons to make this work. The thread you mentioned offers one possible solution. Give it a try, I'd say.
Btw: Your fingerprint-scanner can do this also.
Is anyone using Nova and if so are the Android 10 gestures working? On my Pixel 4 XL they were working on Nova. Not working on the S20. Was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
Same thing, totally bumming me out. Works on the stock samsung launcher.

I got the warning on the Pixel when I installed Nova that the gestures would not work but they ended up working just fine.
Same, I still might go back it but I'm liking the s20 so far. Bet there is a launcher that is compatible, I'm going to need it because I'm so acclimated to the gestures at this point.
Sorry wrong thread

The options on the "full screen gestures" nav are blocked when you use Nova Launcher unfortunately.
Temporary solution for me. Good Lock and one handed operation. At least I can get back swipe to go back.
I use edge gestures and have it setup so that swipe from left to right is back, swipe down is home, and swipe up is recents apps
Then use immersive manager to hide navigation bar. That's been my setup for a while and is the first thing I do when seeing up a new phone
Just a heads up to those looking for another possible solution

Edge Gestures does work in every app. It's an app in the play store that I was referring to
I was describing my setup with that app and not Nova Gestures, which I also use. Sorry for any confusion
Best way around it is use Nova launcher with fluid gestures, work awesome!
you can use the gestures of android 10 with nova using this command by adb, I have it activated.
adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural

Can confirm this works.
You can disable it by changing the settings back and forth.

works like a charm bro. thanks for the help. it was really helpful.
earlier i was using a Oneplus 6T, so with it even after warning message from nova on gestures, full screen gestures worked smoothly. once i moved to S20+ 2 weeks back i was looking for the option on how to enable this option as default launcher sucks once u used Nova.
I know gesture navigation in 3rd party launchers is suppose to work on oneui 2.5 on note 20 ultra. But it doesn't work very well at all.
1. Swiping up to get to recent apps is not a very smooth animation, but worse is that the current app gets positioned in the middle rather than to the right, so quick switching is cumbersome.
2. Trying to use the swipe right on the bottom for previous app is a buggy mess. It's unsmooth and pops in the recent view briefly. Often you get stuck and cannot use the app you switched to, needing to swipe back and switch back and forth to get normal operation again. After trying to use these swipe right/left gestures to quick switch apps, you cannot scroll through the recent apps view quicky anymore, one swipe always mean moving one app to the left or right no matter how strong the swipe. This stays until rebooting.
It's a buggy mess, is there any way to fix this? I'm using Nova, but the problems are the same on all 3rd party launchers.
it might be improved with Android 11
I'm using lawnchair and don't have any of your issues. Only issue swipe to home conflicts with swipe up for app draw.
Everything else works fine. I do think recents menu trigger too easily tho. I get into it when I'm trying to go home.

Oh. I'll have a look at lawn chair and compare the experience. Seems strange how there would be different results in different launchers. Trier Microsoft launcher and it worked the same. I'll make a video of the issues if they turn out being the same on lawn chair.
I just installed the Microsoft Launcher and yeah quite some few animations are missing, plus recent apps are showed blank until I swipe between them.

This is one of the bugs when using a 3rd party launcher and from my understanding, it doens't matter WHICH 3rd party launcher: they all exhibit this behavior when using gestures.

Oh so the good lock task changer is working better in this regard? That's interesting. Is the quick task changer working better too? (swiping right or left on the bottom, browsing previous apps without going through the recent screen)

I don't have any issues so you can give it a try and see how it goes. Yes, its all in the good lock app.
But animations are part of the launcher so its totally normal that you won't get the same effect from a third party launcher. My gestures work fine with Nova. No issues here. Animations are different but its a different launcher so that's to be expected too.

Looks interesting but there are missing features like a swiping left or right to move between previous apps, also there's usually issues specific to this kind of solution. Haven't tried it though. It may be a viable alternative.
This app compare with the other has an advantage, that you set up the app how you want to. if you want to have left or right to go back to last apps you can do it. Like for example I have it for mine
Bottom center click
Go home
Bottom center click and hold
Google Assistant
Bottom center swipe up
Recent apps
Bottom center swipe left
Go back to last app
Bottom left swipe up
Last app
Bottom right swipe up
Recent apps
Buttom Left and right side of screen
Go Back
Top Left and right side of screen
Lauch apps
All but the buttom center are transparent
I'm using a combination of Nova gestures and One Hand Operation+, set system navigation to buttons, double tap navigation bar to hide system buttons.
Swipe up from bottom and nav / home button appears.
Use side swipe in OHO+ for back and switcher.
Use nova on home screen, swipe down for app search, swipe up for switcher, double tap home screen for notification / quick settings.

Just tried swiping right in Nova and you are totally right it is glitchy. For those that cannot run Good Lock (such as myself, since it is not running in my country) you can give Nice Lock a try, helps you run Good lock services anywhere
One Hand Operation+ works very well and uses very little battery.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu, my favorite gremlin exterminator.
I'm running nova. Not getting any bugs or errors.
Hello,
I'm used to Nova Launcher and physical buttons for many years. Since I switched to the OP8P I use on-screen gestures and OP launcher.
Today I tried Nova and opening the recent apps screen takes more time than the stock launcher and it's not smooth.
Is it a known limitation?
Thank you.

It only happens when I open the recent apps from the homescreen. No problem from Firefox for example.
Did you tweak something in Nova to improve the gestures?
As a workaround, I now open the recent apps screen with a swipe up from the homescreen.
No I didn't change anything,
I normaly use the 3 buttons but I tested it with the gestures earlier and it works super fast.

OK so it seems you have the same problem.
With OP stock launcher, you can swipe up then hold to the left to directly switch to another app.
With Nova launcher, you cannot hold and directly switch to another app. You have to release your finger then press again to select another app.
Ok than it´s normal behavior in nova launcher i would say.
Im not familiar with gestures, but couldnt you switch between apps with a swipe from the left or right side directly?
