hi !
im using DEFY baseband switcher , and I was wondering, is there a difference between two different basebands with same frequencies ?
e.g between Brazil Tim 3.4.2_107-9 w frequency band 850/2100mhz & Brazil Claro 6.14.5 w same freqs ...
assuming there is , how can i tell which one is best for me?
(my retailer is not in the list...)

Why not try both for a while and find the difference. I am sure it wont have much difference for the fact both are Brazilian Base bands.
Are you running the stock or a custom ROM?

those bands were just an example...:cyclops:
i would really like to know what other parameters are in there except those freqs..
and another thing, is there a more accurate way to measure the phone connectivity strength, rather then just try using it?

I had wondered the same thing when I first moved to Eppy's CM9 builds. More specifically, how to tell which band to choose when there are multiple for (in my case) T-mobile. I really had no reference, so I fumbled through it. Is there an easy way to tell what is used in your geographical area?

Well, as for me, I'm using Central Europe baseband frequencies (as I am obviously from there) and I also have 5 options to choose from. By default, it set the second option and I had absolutely no problems regarding the strength of the signal. I compared it with my old Nokia phone which had very good coverage, Wherever the old phone had signal, my Defy also has. So I think that you should, at first, let the phone make its own settings, and then if you have bad signal where you once had no problems, try the next one and so on. Hope it helps.
And by the way I have CM9 by Epsylon3 (great guy and great and stable ROM). I'm also going for stock settings (if possible) rather than third party applications.

It depends on the frequency used by your provider. If both the baseband incirporate the frequency your operator runs on, you can use either. There won't be a difference in signal strength..
Wrong baseband= No Network
Correct baseband= Full strength.. That's it.
Correct Neo..
If You select correct baseband you will get network or else no network.
Me too using CM9 with stock baseband without any issues.
My default baseband selected is Central Europe 3.4.x where as i am using My phone in India without any issue...
I'm using central Europe baseband (900/2100, 3.4.x ) In NZ, and it's works for telecom, vodafone, and 2degrees networks.
.
.
What does the 2.34 or 3.4.x whatever mean??
Btw you can set option in System, status bar to display signal status in text format, instead of the bars to experiment. (cm9)
CM9 ICS Defy MB525
I think that baseband difference is mostly in 3G frequencies.
In India we just have 2100, but the base band are for HSDPA 900 / 2100
in 2G also we have some extra bands which are not used in India.
Do these extra bands drain battery?
In south korea Band we have just 2100. If we use that band in India we do get a 2G, but it is GPRS and not edge along with 2100 3G

As I said before, it depends on your provider. If your service provider uses the 3G/EDGE spectrum alike korean providers, you will get it too.. And it has nothing to do with the battery..

Hello, I have a HTC HD 2, and I need to change the Radio Frequency to work with 3G for my carrier. I am using Telcel in Mexico and the frequency for 3G is different than what came with the phone so all I can get is Edge with this phone. Telcel's frequency is compatible with AT&T as I have used my AT&T phones without any problem with Telcel 3G so there must be a difference somewhere. This is what iPhone shows is its frequency so I imagine that the same would work with this phone:
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!
Did you try any rom or Radio...
Maybe need to look something on setting...

Is your HD2 the European or the US version?
Version HD2
I beleive it is a US version but I bought it used off a guy on ebay... Any way I can find out?
Settings
We have gone into the settings and the settings are on Auto and we tried through the settings and advanced settings and the frequencies do not match what we need for Telcel so I am assuming some kind of modification can be done? Maybe it is in a hidden menu?
Not possible

Sorry pal, but Mexico, as most american countries, uses the 850/1900 3G UMTS bands...
The most common sold version of the HD2, the so called 'european', supports 900/2100 bands, so you won't ever make it work with your country 3G. IT IS NOT something that can be configured, or even flashing other Radios or ROMs, it won't change it.. it is hard-coded on the on board 3G chip.
Right now, if you really want HD2 with 3G in your country, your only choice is get the 'Telstra' version (T9193) from Australia (e.g. EBAY)... it supports the 850Mhz 3G band, so it should work on your country.
As i live in Argentina, i did the same, bought such version, and it works with my country 3G operators....
Really, don't even waste more time investigating this matter. you won't be able to do it.
Htc hd2
The only way than you can get 3G on Telcel networks its if you have the htc hd2 t9193 from AU..

Your HD2 must have been made for EU / Asia market: Model T8585 (UMTS 900/2100 Mhz)
The HD2 that's compatible with AT&T will be the only one from Australia carried by Telsta: Model T9193 (850/2100 Mhz)
How do you you know if this is Australia or EU/Asia verion - look at the back of the phone below the battery cover. If EU / Asia version, nothing would be showing but if it's Australia version you would see this "Next G network / T".
It's the design of hardware which can't be changed

Remove the battery and see the model! it it is T8585 then forget about 3G! You will never make it work!
Hi all,
Mostly a lurker here over the years, love the site and forums - great community! I'm running latest JG4 Optus on my SGS with the new "2200 score" lagfix - awesome!
Anyone else getting really slow data on Telstra? I have tried telstra.wap telstra.corp telstra.internet telstra.iph all of these AP's give extremely slow data, and the phone symbol at the top flicks between 'H' (assume HSDPA) and 3G at times. I'm talking 0.4mpbs.
My friend is on Optus and his *cough* iPhone is getting 4.45mbps, in comparison my speed is nowhere near this speed. I am in metro Melbourne.
Anyone else have slow Telstra experience or know a trick or setting to help out - would be much appreciated!
Thanks all.
i could be wrong, but i dont think the galaxy s supports telstra network very well, if at all. dunno, not real tecchy, but its what ive heard round the traps. something to do with the bands the phone supports (900/2100 or 2200ish) and telstra is 850 something or other. smarter people than me will be able to clarify.
Correct, Telstra uses 850mhz and 2100 (apparently). But, only some variants support 850, and Telstra are releasing their own for that frequency. So I'd imagine that 2100 simply has lower coverage (Optus on the otherhand uses the more standard 900mhz frequency).
If you already own the phone, you may wish to consider moving to an optus based network (such as Exetel for Virgin). However, it is also entirely possible/probable that the galaxy S ships with a chip that supports 850mhz, and it simply needs to be enabled (I have seen threads which showed a way to apparently enable it).
Or, it may be just reception probs
Hi, thanks for the input...
According to http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification the phone does support 850 and 2100. Strange

It possibly does, but which country did you purchase it in? Remember, some countries might have had it disabled (because they don't use 850, or have other services on those frequencies).

Hi Andrew Purchased in Australia from Allphones "unlocked". Tried the 850 band turn on and various other fiddles in that debug/phone settings area relating to 3G and HSDPA - unfortunately the max I've seen on Telstra is 0.40Mbps, my friend gets 4.45Mbps on iPhone/Optus
Coverage in my area is usually great, I'm in Melb metro area and normally full bars.

mate it might be worth a look over at whirlpool forums, they seem to have a fair bit of stuff about telstra and the galaxy s over there, so you should hopefully find some help
Hi, thanks for all the information, heres the low down:
Telstra has WCDMA 2100 and 850 bands, but the Galaxy S badged versions of this phone only support quad band in GSM, it is triband on WCDMA and unfortunately 850 isn't supported Telstra will be selling a different version of this phone shortly ("Captivate" badge!?!?!?) which WILL support their 3.5G 850 network at full speed.
Bummer!
I have 10i, but would love to switch to a provider that uses 10a frequencies. If I cross flash will the radio switch the frequencies?
It might sound like a stupid questions but my other phone is a Motorola Dext (aka Cliq) The 3G radio chipset in the Dext is multi-band, original radio firmware allowed the use of all the bands i.e 850/900/1700/1900/2100. Software updates later killed that option and allowed the phones to use 3 of the possible bands; decided by the telecom pushing the update. (Yes, I did update before finding this out -arse) BTW, if you feel bad about 1.6, Cliq/Dext sold in 2010 is stuck on 1.5, although at least there are (more or less buggy) custom 2.1 roms out now.
Apparently it's a common practice to use multiband radio and use firmware to lock it down, it is cheaper than manufacturing two distinct chips. But, common, does not mean universal.
Soooooo... Anyone knows if the radios are identical and we can cross flash to change our 3G frequencies; or are 10a and 10i using different, hardware locked, chips?
Try to use R2BA026 LAM firmware.
Is for X10a.
After that, you have to recreate the APNs.
It might work... but depends what frequency is supported by your carrier.
If is one from your X10i, it will work for sure. If not ... probably EDGE is your only choice because afaik X10 has only 3 bands for 3G
I want to go from Vodafone 900/2100 to TelecomXT 850/1900. XT has NO GSM network, it's all 3G and has superior data rates and speed. In NZ, because of large distances between towers outside the CBDs of the main centres, the first (lower) frequency is more important. Voda falls back on its gsm network and their 900MHz 3g coverage is not as good as telecom's 850 coverage. What I'm trying to establish is if the 3 frequencies are rom or hardware tied.
TelecomXT has a better network and far better prepay deals on data and sms, I used it with my 3g iphone and would love to go back to the fold.
I really don't want to brick this phone. So I've been trying to read up on how easy it is to flip back and forth with 10a/i roms. Or, flash 10i rom with a baseband? I'll try to flash in the weekend unless I get warned off,
i believe it will not work that way...x10i and x10a use two different 3g radio antenna chipset. so it will stay the same even though u have flashed to x10a firmware...

I agree. its not a software issue... its hardware... and unless you're apple, you can't get away with a software 'fix' to a hardware issue
An item you are forgetting about is each band has a power amplifier tuned specifically for that band. So even if the chipset supports 5 bands, it will only work on the bands for which it has power amplifiers for.

X10i: HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100

So, you are out of luck.
You have to trade your X10i for an X10a
Here's one for the 1337 experts.
I have a i5800L, it's the Latin American version of the i5800.
The only difference (rather than the 5801, which does have more differences) is that the i5800L is meant to work in Band V (W-CDMA 850), Band II (W-CDMA 1900) rather than 900 / 2100.
I recently installed JPM, and european version of the froyo 2.2 android. This is because I am fairly confident Latin American carriers are not going to give us any Froyo update, because the frankly don't really care. So I figured if I am to get froyo, it will have to be an European ROM
Lots of people ask how to change their 3G frequencies as to use an European phone in the Americas, or vice-versa, which I already know is not possible, because of the physical distinction between the antennas.
My question is, how can I change Android settings, or if you will configure it so as for it to recognize that it's working with 850/1900 rather than 900/2100.
There must be some file or something that can be edited, I don't believe they'd make Android such a modular OS and then fit something like the 3G bands way deep into the kernel.
Kudos for someone who can actually solve this.
Thanks in advanced.

Nice, this forces it to 3G though, but heck, it's better than nothing.
Hi. Since I got s7edge ,i have been having some really bad network signal. I barely can got 4g with 1 bar, even though i have here good coverage for 4g .however,i have 3g and 2g full signal. With other phones i have had (p10,s7flat,htc one m9) i got full bars LTE+ signal. What could be the problem? I assume network band. I tried changing it on *#0011# but i cannot enter band options. I got sac23 v8 port.
"sac23 v8 port"
That's your problem. Get the original software if you want stability and reliability.
PS: You didn't say what hardware version of the phone you have and what cell network you are on. There are too many combinations for us to guess.
@SoNic67 Hm. Sorry, didn't think you would need hardware version.. i had same problems with official stock firmware and rom, thats the main reason i rooted my phone. So ,my hardware version is MP 0.801 and I'm on Serbian network, company name is MTS. We have some solid 4g coverage here..
Based on this, MTS has LTE Band 3 and Band 20.
Note that what is called 4G in Europe is technically LTE. So it means the same thing.
Looking at cellmapper.net, in Serbia, outside Belgrade, I see on MTS a lot of cells only with B20.
I don't know about Serbia, but in Romania I know that band 20 is a shared band (10MHz) by all the providers, in rural areas, so the connection to it is very unstable (I am not sure who has priority in case of congestion). I often saw there only 3G signal when B20 was overwhelmed. The actual speed test in those places was identical on 4G/LTE and 3G (H+) - the back-haul connection was limited.
Also, I am not familiar with your hardware version. Some versions have differences in supported LTE bands.
So... I would investigate that - what bands are actually implemented in your modem. Flashing different firmware won't change that, it's in a different memory.
I would start looking at this, at least to read the NV #06828 value (phone doesn't even need to be rooted):

Take the SIM out first, reboot and then do the *#2263# without SIM inside.
However, note that when changing the SIM, the CSC file is re-flashed the modem with the appropriate bands and different restrictions (including locking service modes).
On my S7Edge, only with an AT&T SIM I can see the *#2263#. With Verizon SIM it doesn't work.
