Alright, I have had my Bravo since January, rooted and flashed the BravoX RC2 rom along with a theme. During the summer, my wife was eligible for her upgrade, so we decided for me to upgrade to the Atrix on the condition that she was able to get the Bravo.
The phone has always had some freezing issues since updating to 2.2, but I think lately she has been getting very annoyed with this.
I would like to return the phone completely to stock, but due to the time since I last worked on it I'm a little unsure on how to go about it.
I wasn't expecting to get the upgrade when I did, and it was time sensitive so I didn't have time to remove my modifications to the Bravo before I gave it to her as I was planning, but a factory reset had removed all of BandroidX's apps, but left root access, the rom, and theme.
So, I know I will need to flash the 2.2 SBF to the phone in order to reset it completely to stock.
Because the phone currently is rom'ed and themed, do I need to first try to reset the phone using the BravoX bootstrap recovery?
Or does flashing the SBF completely overwrite everything that I've done with the phone erasing the rom, icon theming, and will it remove root access?
If you flash the sbf your phone will be completely stock... fresh froyo. Root access and everything else will be gone.
So, there won't be issues/conflicts with flashing the SBF all the way after having rom'ed and themed?

No, flashing the sbf will erase your custom rom and theme for you.
Do you know how to properly flash the sbf with RSD Lite?
Yes, I've done that a couple of times. Really just done it from stock, or close to stock though, and a little new to working within OS's so was wanting clarification how the sbf sets itself.
I've been able to bring a few "bricks" back to life with there .sbf files. Love the things when flashing roms that have a bad bootloader or something else. Saved my skin several times. So ya flashing a .sbf is a total wipe and fresh install of whatever one you use. Just make sure you have a full battery at the start
Hi Guys and Girls, I hope this is the right place for my question. Sorry if I sound like a 12-year old - my english is not really the best...
I own the Motorola Defy+, and I tried to get rid of motoblur. I installed SndInit 2.0, did a reboot, did a backup, did factory reset, wiped dalvik cache and picked the miui-rom I had previously placed on my SD. The installation went pretty good, my phone told me that it finished the installation and I did another reboot.
After the reboot I get the red M (default Motorola-logo just like before I was meddling around with the phone) but just for a very short period of time and then I get a black screen with white letters (slightly out of proportion) saying:
Bootloader
09.10
Err:A5,70,00,00,23
Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB
When I remove the USB-cable the last two lines are replaced by:
Connect USB
Data Cable
Do you guys have any idea, how I could get MIUI, CM or anything else running on my phone again? I'd even be quite happy to have the stockrom running again, since a phone with ****ty motoblur is still better than no phone at all.
I'd be really grateful for any kind of help, thanks in advance.
The miui you installed was for defy or defy+? And , can you access to recovery?
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
You have forgot to do 2 things. this might be the problem .
Do:
1. Factory reset.
2. wipe data cache.
3. wipe dalvik cache.
4.install MIUI rom.
5. wipe once again data cache.
6. reboot.
If you can access recovery again . my guess you can..
Thank you guys for taking care of me!!
@LeonardoJegigzem
The MIUI is called miui-ger_DEFY_1.12.23_FULL_EN_DE.zip - it's for Defy but I've read in forums that it should run on Defy+ aswell.
@VoLtrex31
I can't access recovery (I'm assuming you're talking about the "push volume-down when blue LED turns on"-recovery?), the screen I described in OP appears right after the red-M shows up for the first time.
You are right, I didn't wipe data cache neither before, nor after the installation.
Thats not good.
Search in the forums for how to access the recovery via your computer..
This might be your only way.
Ask more forums for technical help since xda is not the best forum for asking for help.
because i am not an expert .
But don't worry i bet many people got that problem too so there is a solution .
at last you have stock recovery(i think)
to access it (on defy) ress and hold VOL DOWN and power button.
Than after(about 10 sec) you'll get an exclamation mark.
Now press VOL UP and DOWN at the same time and you can wipe data.
If phone boots up perfectly yo can reinstall 2ndinit.
If not.. i think that you have to flash the appropriate sbf via rsd lite.

Now that's great news - the folks at motorola seem to know that ppl want to avoid ****ty motoblur and **** up their phones so they built an easy way to rescue broken phones.
I will try that asap - right now I'm using an old sony ericsson Xperia X8 - want my Defy+ back!
Thanks buruss!
Hi guy,I know about what you talking.
1. everytime i stuck on "white letters" i recovered my defy+ with RSDLite and correct SBF file.
2. If you have 2.3.6 version of stock rom, miui or any common cm7 won't work - afaik. You must downgrade (somewhere is topic about it) or use cm7.2 or cm9

Yea, I 've been through the same today/yesterday, and after a lot of cursing I can tell you it is exactly like this T.T you have to re-flash the stock ROM 2.3.6 again, and then if you find a way to downgrade/install Miui-CM/basically anything than staying with the stock ROM, let me know! xD
Just relax, I'm telling you this because yesterday I could have killed a dragon with my bare hands, but a soft brick is NP, as long as RSDlite recognizes your phone you can always going back to safety, from what I've learnt hard bricking a Defy is veryveryvery hard, thanks/due to a locked boot loader
Hey Guys, first let me thank you! I'm feeling quite happy now knowing that I'm not the only one with this kinda problem and I'll try the RSDlite-rescue-mission in a few days.
Happy new year everybody!

I guess it's inevitable, when you start trying this and that custom ROM, sooner or later you're going to screw it up xD but it's actually good when that happens, because you know 100% you can fix everything - you did it once, you'll do it again
Happy new year!
miui uses the 2.2 froyo as base, since all the defy plus have gingerbread miui wont boot, miui hve boot.img and davtree.img in the rom.zip, if you flashan old boot.img in to a newer defy plus with new bootloader(2.3.6) you get an error, ho to fix it, try deleting the boot.img and devtree.img from the zip and replace the 2.3.6 boot.img and devtree.img form 2.3.6 and add it to the zip( miui rom) and try to flash it again and see if it works
You guys are awesome! Phone is booting again
installed RSDlite 5.3.1
downloaded the latest .sbf for my phone and my provider
let RSDlite do its magic and now everything's working just fine.
Next thing to do - try again to get rid of motoblur!
It's not 100% true, I installed MIUI over my 2.3.4 Gingebread and it worked like a charm
Only problem is, I can't install it anymore now that I'm on 2.3.6, but 2.2 is not strictly needed, 2.3.4 worked as well
Hey, guys! I have the exact same problem. I tried to install a Galnet MIUI ROM over at galnetmiui.co.uk, and i messed it up. I didn't really know what i was doing. Perhaps i forgot to wipe cache after installation. Have the exact same error message as mikrokosmonaut.
I was running my mb 256 with android 2.3.6, as far as I know, i have to use RSD Lite to istall stock rom again. Where do I find the correct SBF? My phone was bought without a service provider subscribtion, so I have no clue where to find the right SBF. I have no objection against having blur on the phone.
Can anyone help?
hi guys!!
i've tried to install miui on my defy+ 2.3.6.. like i read on this thread i modified the .zip file changing the boot.img and devtree with the original one.
but mt defy can't boot.. stuck at motorola logo..
what can i do?? does anyone managed to install miui on a defy+ 2.3.6?

I don't think MIUI work on 2.3.6. you need CM7.2, or maybe some latest nightly version of MIUI

thanks for your reply! indeed i'm using cm 7.2.. it works pretty well, except some delays! never heard about miui nightly! i did a research on google but i couldn't find anything.. any idea??
thanks again!
hi again!
i was thinking.. you said miui shouldn't work on 2.3.6 and i guess you are right! so if i do the same thing i did (change the boot and devtree file in the latest miui.zip that is 2.3.7 if i'm not wrong) but using files from android 2.3.7?
maybe i try to explain myself better..
i make a nandroid backup of my cm 7.s2 which is 2.3.7.
then i change the files boot and devtree from cm 7.2 to the latest miui.
should it work? what do you think?
thanks again
Hi, folks! *GREAT NEWS!*
Some guys over at the devs section on the thread below have found a froyo sbf with bootloader 6 (the same as the defy 2.3.6 sbf)!!! This means we can use it to downgrade to froyo and install MIUI over it!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486731
I haven't tried it yet, but will flash later today or tomorrow. You should read through some of the posts and decide for yourselves if you want to try or not.
All the best!

Hello there, i recently got a Motorola defy and the first thing i did was install cm7. A few day later i noticed an issue with the charging port (the phone froze up and became unusable when i was using a wall charger) so i decided to return it to stock for warranty issues since i flashed to miui and the problem persisted. My phone company is Claro Dominican Republic so after doing some research i tried to put the Claro Argentina SBF using RDS lite, in paper that should have left the phone stock.
After installing that SBF the defy got stock in a boot loob, i got the motorola logo then some data usage warnings in spanish (just like the first time u boot the phone) but i kept restarting. I tried reflashing that same SBF but the problem persisted. I tried other things like installing a nordic sbf and whatnot and every time the same thing happened. Later i stubled upon a chinese sbf that did boot. I rooted the phone installed 2ndinit poped into recovery used the full wipe zip and tried to install cm7, there it got stuck at the google logo and i couldn't enter recovery.
I reflashed with the Chinese sbf re rooted and re did everything and i tried installing miui and i got the same issue. I also tried using an nandroid backup from Claro Argentina but nothing happened the phone stayed the same with the Chinese SBF.
Im fresh out of ideas and ive tried alot of things ive read arround but nothing has worked. Id love to hear your opinions on this issue, thanks in advanced
First what chinese sbf you flashed?? And second, before flashing stock again wipe data and cache on stock recovery.
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
JORDN_U3_97.21.51, thats the rom name its the only one thats working for me atm. Ive tried many things but i cant get any other rom to work.
Bad news, you cant downgrade that, now you are stuck on eclair or gb 2.3.4, cause jrdn_u3_97.21.51 has cg version 5, and froyo version 4, try this, flashing eclair again and then fixed froyo, whatever, i think motorola can see wich cg you are, wonder they not!!

That link worked perfectly!, i had a problem with my phone internal memory (only had 128mb available) But i reinstalled the nandroid backup in the link did a factory reset there then i installed cm7 without any issues.
Now i still have the charging problem (my phone becomes unusable when its charging, gets super laggy). I want to return the phone to stock settings so that i can claim my warranty on it. Any ideas on how to put the sbf without getting the problem i had or should i just live with the issue?
You can only flash that fixed froyo of the link, because each sbf has a version, the chinese you flashed is version 5, and once you flash a new version you cannot then flash a lower one, here the problem, froyo is version 4, a fixed is a sbf without, cg31 and cg39 files
Motorola Defy CM7 RC 1.5 OC 1GHz
Cant i modify the sbf i want to install like the guy in the link did? and what about my charging problem, ever heard of it?
Yep, you can, but i never did it, i know you must use the SBF Depacker or something like that, and for the laggy try wiping cache and dalvik cache and see what happens!, did you wipe data when flashed CM9 over CM7??
yeah, and im using cm7. i wiped dalvik already and nothing.. it only happens when im charging the phone via the wall charger adapter
Apologies for the state of this question, but it's been a while
I've been using CM7 on my unlocked Defy since I bought it (6-8 months). However, recently it's gotten a lot more unstable; it freezes up all the time, I can't wake it up, google maps will crash half the time, the camera too, and it involves me restarting it a fair bit. I need to sort it out and I thought I could take this opportunity to try out a new ROM
However I haven't done anything ROM related for a while, and the computer I originally rooted/installed a new ROM on my Defy with is no long gone...so I'm not even sure what programs I need to install.
I seem to remember, the way the Defy is set up, it isn't as simple as wiping the phone and installing any ROM on it?
Could anyone point me in the direction of a guide on here dedicated to moving from CM7 to another ROM? From scratch? Failing that, I may be tempted to just try and wipe and get CM7 on there from the beginning...not even sure where to start
Thanks
If you want to flash a stock ROM, you need to flash the SBF through RSDLite.
While to flash a custom ROM(CM7,CM9), boot into recovery, wipe all, flash the zip from sdcard.

nice one, thanks. It's just as simple as that when changing from one ROM to another? I thought something to do with how the Defy's memory worked meant some kind of 'backtracking; wasn't possible

Yep, that simple. You could try Pikachu Edition, for example, which is even easier (just get into Recovery, install zip, choose the zip file and then AROMA installer does almost everything that's needed). I'm just starting to try it, many people like it.
If you move between CM7 nightlies it isn't even necessary to wipe data, but given your condition, I would recommend you to wipe everything and start again (remember to backup apps and data).
Good luck!
great, always good to see a bit of pikachu
can I go straight from CM7 to pikachu via a wipe? isn't CM7 on kernel 2.3.7?
Hello there! I really hope you can help me with this, because I don`t have any other ideas or even the courage to try new ones. I recently bought a defy plus and after tens of pages read on the Internet about kernels, SBFs, ROMs and other android stuff I decided to start modding it. It came with a stock 2.3.6 Android, which I swapped for a ParanoidAndroid 2.14 (with Android 4.1.1), which I liked a lot, but I was quite laggy.
Then I decided to look for other ROMs and I wanted to install CM7. But here is my problem: I can`t. I tried to flash this file (cm-7.2.0-jordan), but it didn`t work. Then I had to flash a SBF to get my phone back. I think it was the wrong SBF (filename: JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYORTTR_P013_A013_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf) because it bricked ( hard brick, I couldn`t even start it), but luckly I had it fixed cause I still have my guarantee (which is a mistery for me, how did they do it? didnt they see it was rooted and this broke the terms of the guarantee?).
Anyway, they re-softed it and now I have a working phone. I rooted it, installed 2nd init and tried again. Now with a nightly version of CM7: cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-jordan. It still goes into a bootloop. I went through all the steps, root phone, install 2nd init, Wipe data/factory and Wipe cache and install from sd card.
My first and most important question is: do I have to be on stock android (meaning I have to flash the stock 2.3.6) every time I want to flash a custom ROM? Or can I be on, let`s say ParanoidAndroid, and change directly to CM10?
And my second question: How can I install CM7 for defy plus?
Thank you for your future responses.
Ok, I figured out the CM7 part, I think I was trying to flash a wrong nightly file. I got another one and I finally have CM7 on my phone. But, please, can someone give me an answer to my first question: For every custom ROM I install, I have to go back to stock 2.3.6 every time? Or can I flash, for example a MIUI, right now, on my CM7, without going back to stock rom?
No need to flash stock every time. Data should be wiped along with cache
