hey all.
i am considering buying as new battery for my defy. the one i have is about a year and a bit old and batteries do tend to wear. i have come across a few on ebay that are higher capacity than original and am wondering if they will charge to full.

i have a defy red lense and am currently running cm7 kang by fuzz i think it is (great job mate by the way love it it is silky smooth). i am considering giving the cm9 rom a try out shortly so would also like it to work with that rom.
so will these charge up to their full capacity or will they not? if anyone knows before i take the plunge can they let me know please
thanks
I've got a 3500 capacity one it charges to 100% then runs down to 0% but then stays alive for an extra day I've got rid of battery icon just wish I can get rid of flashing red light and the warning on lockscreen. If your rooted you can get battery calabrator from market. It works but not for the massive batteries. Hope this helps
defy cm7
cheers mate exactly the answered i was looking for. will get one of those above then probably the 2400 one or whatever it is. that will do me i all i need is an extra 12 hours or so. i may even go and get one of the external batteries as well as a new internal battery as that would be good for all my usb devices. cheers again bud.
No worries glad I could help.

Does anyone think it is possible to create a custom battd.bin which supports the higher capacity? That would be really cool
Might be an idear!
I will have a think about it.

I would support that. I wonder what is required to change the battd file for larger batteries

Hi,
as I found, battery calibration doesn't solve this, even not on the smaller batteries. I use a 1700 mAh HF5X battery in Defy. Somehow it's recognized as 500 mAh, and not charged fully. I have the same issue: battery indicator stays on 1% for a long time.
I tried every fix and kernel I've found but nothing worked yet.
After checking, I think those batteries aren't so good (except perhaps the 3500 one) ... give a look at this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828768
More, I checked other seller on ebay and everytime the same, whatever the seller : all the bad comments are about "high capacity" batteries ...
Good luck to find a good one

I got a 2700 mah battery off of amazon and when I plug it in it says it's not sorted and ur won't charge. I can tin the phone but when it his 0 I have way to charge it. Any idea how I can make my phone charge it?
Clear battery stats in cwr? That might work.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz
Unsupported batteries won't usually charge in this phone.

Tried the battery stats reset, it did nothing. I was thinking I was screwed after that, sucks the said it was made for the phone and they gave me a new cover and all but failed to make sure the phone could charge it, only lost $20 on it.
I was talking to samsung at CES yesterday and they mentioned this. Apparently the fascinate battery is a different voltage than the other Galaxy S phones and thus won't charge any batteries that aren't for the phone.
It's an issue because every year samsung gives away free batteries for their phones at the show and they ran out of Fascinate batteries pretty quickly but have tons for the other models.
The Battery says 3.7 just the same as the stock
This is why you buy one with a charger. I bought a set of two with a charger for 25 bucks off amazon. They don't charge in the phone either but the charger works great and was honestly the best investment I made in this phone. Seller name was dailypc if youre interested. good luck finding a good replacement!

You can also special order an extended 2200ma battery from verizon. Saw an asian dude walking around with one at the samsung booth. But it's ugly as hell, it's a curved back.
Is there a work around for this? I just received my extended battery in the mail today and I was pretty disappointed that it won't charge. The screen also won't turn off like it did before.
Use one of the many kernels that by-passes the oem battery check.
If you are unrooted you will have to purchase an aftermarket wall charger to charge them. They will not charge in the phone.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Sorry I'm a noob but I'm on froyo. Are there more kernels out there that are not tied to ROMs? I assume that if I install a froyo based rom, it will give me the same issue. If I'm wrong, can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks
Never mind, found the answer at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949517
Source code hasn't been released yet so not possible right now. Thanks for your help
If you flash cm7 it will fix the unsopported batt issue

Has anyone tried buying a non official battery for their MS2 and care to comment or recommend any? Im going on holiday to france and i know my phone wont last a whole day without charging, so I was thinking of buying a second battery.
I read in another forum that using a non-Motorola battery displays some kind of warning. I'd go with an original battery.

using a non-original battery could have detrimental effects on your phone. there was a discussion on this on the forum of another phone. using a non-original battery could lead to leaks and other problems which would eventually lead to the warranty of your phone being voided.
stick with original motorola products. yes the battery might be very underpowered, but its the safest bet to ensure the longevity of ur phone
With a non original battery, the battery indicator of your phone shows a interrogation symbol. Also, it does not charge with the phone charger.
Sorry my analphabet english xD
@Motorola Milestone 2
bp7x 2300mAh battery
I 'm using a non-original battery . The MOMAX and everything's good ,it feels just like the original one except for battery tempperature sensor. the temp is always 26 in celsius
I personally have used seidio for my milestone and it works like a charm, its the extended 2800mah one it really performs like it should and not like how a lot of people claim thats its way less than stock! It does not always read it correctly but a quick reboot fixes that, like 50% after reboot would usually be about 70-80%. They way i used to use my phone (light to moderate level) would last about 2-3 days but after the extended I got twice that and some more. Just make sure you get stuff from the original manufactures either way and don't go for deals at amazon or whatnot as those guys might be selling either defected or not proprely stored stuff. Batteries are critical components don't go cheap on them! And no, my phone has not been messed up or had any leaks or anything and I have this for about 3-4 months now. The original battery degraded in about 6months if you have to compare.
That sounds promising, does the battery need to be charged with an external charger? And does the milestone complain that you are not using the official bettery

reebooting your phone to get the exact picture also works on the standard battery. my question is, does the back part which houses the battery heat up when used? does the phone get hot during charging? do you need a new battery cover for it? and besides the longer usability, have you noticed any other performance issues on the phone?

Actually the rebooting to get the exact picture is not the same here, a jump to 20-30% on a stock battery? I don't think so. No I never encountered any odd behavior with the other battery. No getting extra hot during charge or use, get the typical little bit of heat while using 3G and browsing like mad but that would happen on the stock battery too. Battery cover for a 2800? of course, that stuff is huge! its protrudes like mad! a quick heads up though, the extended battery for the milestone 1 and 2 can use the same extended batteries. Don't know about the droid x though. Anyways, no performance issues, no heat while charging. The back covers supplied by these after market guys are not the best quality though so if you are someone who loves dropping phones and what not would recommed getting a spare back cover from the guys you get the batts from.

No, I use my original charger and no complains or warnings by the phone. Not on the milestone 1 at least. In fact some times i use my ipod's adapter so no big issue. And it charges at the same pace as the stock, additional 1 hour or whatever. restart the phone to getting a proper reading as it shows 100% but upon restart its 70-80% since only the stock level is charged. I hear this app called battery left does great for calibration.
ALSO a thing to note, I only know of Seidio and Mugen to be relialbe after market battery guys hence their hefty pricing at times. The others claiming to have bigger batteries have cheated people with stickers and what not and usually end up underperforming and degrading considerably faster than burning paper! I remember 1USD batteries for nokias back in the day good for a quick one time run i suppose but these 1USD guys are now selling them with a better branding for like 20-40 USD.
Anyways Sedio and Mugen have facebook profiles and keep people posted on the latest on devices usually there, although its kind of sad since seidio have not followed through promised products at times.

Cool but as I suggested try and get them off the manufactures themselves as I have noticed some people complaining when purchased via 3rd party retailers.
Also another bud of mine had picked up one for the Nexus one, that phones back cover is a full one unlike the moto's and he too can vouch for the products positive performance. Either ways also check out some reviews from amazon.com for peace of mind.

Wifi was on most of the time, I was using my phone for the usual things. Occasionally checking socialfeeds, engadget, xda every hour or so and internet browsing I played 10 minutes of angry bids. Updated some apps and downloaded a few new ones.
Overall not a significant increase in battery life maybe an hour or so more from what I am used to.

I know this has probably been brought up (the similar threads did not show the question), but i am probably going to need a new battery soon for my HD2 (US).
I am interested in an extended battery, but one that is the OEM size(no new backplate is a must), what is the biggest mAh out there for this? Searching the web and ebay all i could find is this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2430MAH-HIGH-CA...ccessories&hash=item2eb5fbb4fd#ht_2170wt_1139
Not sure if its just a gimick, or if it will fry my phone, or if its legit....anyone know of that one? Or any others.......I dont mind paying the extra $$$, i plan to keep my HD2 for a long time....
one that works with NAND Android is a must as well......Through my searching the above is the only one i could find that fits my wants/needs.....
thanks for the look
-W.Feather
one thing for sure ... dont purchase of ebay and thats not genuine as the mah is 2 large for the size of the battery id recommend buying a normal hd2 stock battery and keep one with you at all times that way you have 2 batterys,
i purchased apparently a (1600) mah of ebay which lasted same as stock battery and until i got an app called battery monitor widget pro it told me the battery is 1230 mah same as stock battery so unless your paying 30+ for over 2000mah with extended back i wouldnt bother as its a waste
you know i've seen a lot of people complain about ebay but as long as you follow some simple guide lines you should be fine, after all if it dont live up to its description you can return it for a full refund per ebay's rules. a seller must list it correctly or they have the chance to have negative feedback & returns. this is not to say that everyone on ebay sells ligit stuff though.
1st thing you should know is if it sounds to good to be true it "normally" is
2nd you should look at the feedback and see if other buyers have left positive feedback for the item you plan to buy
3rd test it as soon as you get it, especially if its a sd card or other easily faked item
4th & last thing you should know is dont expect 100% positive feedback means you'll get a genuine item. some people on ebay start with small stuff they can use to bump up they're feedback score & then start selling cheap/knock off stuff. this happened to me with a 16gb memory stick which had a memory hack showing it was 16gb but really it was only 7gb. ebay gave me a full refund and banned the seller.
if you follow these simple guide lines you should be ok. about the battery i agree LaneyEFC. i have 3 spare batteries that i keep on hand incase one dies im able to swap it out for a new charged 1. i bought all 3 batteries and a wallcharger off ebay for about $15 and couldn't be happier with my purchase. i had a extended battery with a kickstand that made my phone heavy & clunky. It also made it a little more difficult to text on then without. i hope this helps some.
i think this is the seller that i bought mine from.
I know the too good to be true thing mate thats why i asked to be sure.
As for 2 batteries, the reason i'm looking at a new one is, my current one does not hold a charge long enough(yes i have cleared battery stats and all the other tricks), so i'm looking for a replacement......i figure worst case i buy two OEM ones, but finding a higher mAh one in the OEM size would be optimal because i would rather have longer battery w/o swapping em out if possible

that also depends on the rom you use, i get 9/10 hours out off typhoon cm7 but also using the same rom i get 1 day 3 hours using the thread method in my signature and with MIUI i get 7 hours and get 16 hours using thread in signature hints

yea i know its not ideal to have to change the battery out but most days i dont even need to. if i do its just right there on the charger. it really all comes down to how i used my phone that day i guess. what would be ideal though is having a battery that lasted a long time like with my touch pro 2. man i could surf the web for house & it might have only dropped by 10%.
anyway like i said i did have an extended battery (2300mAh) but it did make the phone rather clunky & difficult to text on. i ended up just selling it to purchase the spare batteries instead. now im used to it, i just leave it on the charger & if i happen to need it swap it out real quick, longest part is waiting for the phone to boot up.
I've got the original extended battery I just use it all the time now it is clunky but I can play with my phone as and when I want and only ever need to charge at bed time
I don't mind it now and the kick stand is handy

Simple question here: I'm tired of getting no good batt life no matter what ROM I flash. The reason is that I use some apps (SeePU, SetVSel, Lookout) who are running all the time, thus taking some precious juice from my phone. I like to have "control" (in this case, it means knowing always how much load is my phone going thru) and safety in my Defy, so simply stop using these apps is not an option.
Since extended batteries are really cheap these days, it came to my mind: there are 2 models of extended batts (except for the Defy+ one): the 2300 mAh one, which has the same size as the original, and the 3500 mAh one, which is bigger, but comes with a proper rear case for it. Now, what would be better: keep the phone's forms and water resistance, using the 2300 one and keeping the original batt always with me, or go for the bigger one, leaving the original batt always home (with more than double mAh, I wouldn't need it around anyway)?
Plus, for people who already use them, do these batteries actually add uptime to the phone? I mean, I know Defy+ users have trouble with the ROMs made for the original Defy mainly because the firmwares don't recognize the batt correctly, so wouldn't an extended battery suffer of the same issue?
Last, but not least: do you guys know where can I find a 2300 mAh battery these days? Every eBay auction I find is already closed due to stock running out, only 3500 mAh models are available.
I think you'll be better buying an original spare battery to carry around...those cheap batteries are never good, the real mAh is never the same as advertised, if not lower than the original battery
also the chems inside are probably cheap stuff 'cause their lifespan is significantly shorter
always hope someone will prove me wrong!
Either get a real Motorola battery or get the 3500mAh. It's not possible to fit 2300mAh of battery capacity in the original space, Li-ion does have its limits.
i wonder if Defy still has waterproof capability if using thick battery
The defy + battery issue is down to different type of battery (chemical)
The big battery looses the water resistance, so I would choose a second original battery as the quality is good, best battery you can get that's genuinely better is the mugen 1900 the cheap ones dont last
teamwork makes the dream work
Personally I got myself an external USB battery

No, the original batt cover has a different design which provides the water resistance. Generic covers does not provide this protection

New case for extended battery addon
Hi,
Considering getting an 3500mAh extended battery from ebay.
I have a case for the Defy with standard battery and it's protected the phone from a few drops.
With the extended battery - the old case won't fit- I'm thinking a silicone protector would be good. Has anayone adapted a case/ protector for their Defy using extended battery?
Cheers.
I would try original defy+ akku. But don't know if defy will accept this?
Somebody tested?
Do not go for something that makes your phone bulky since it would not fit in the doc

Hi,
It is good to upgrade the phones battery :goodIf it is a original Moto battery, since battery leaks from low quality battery would kill your phone).
If the new battery would make your phone bulkier then it would make the phone not to fit in the docks available for this phone. Also changing the original battery cover might make the phone less water-resistant.
Cheers,
Vic
is this a good idea to put these battery on defy?
will this improve uptime?

Bottom line: don't buy it.

The only brand of extended battery really works is Andida , I had one in my old N78 lasted 1-2 hours more than the original
don't buy it
My cousin got this battery , apart from the inflated capacity , it battery also leaked fluid and became inflated :crying:
same size as bf5x/hf5x, significantly higher capacity, definitely a scam, may even be dangerous.
battery chemistry hasn't evolved that much in the past few years. there's a limit on the weight&volume/capacity ratio.
avoid it.
not that good
i bought it and it's 10% her half a hour :/
Third-party batteries often lack good protective circuits. They may die unexpectedly and/or kill your phone. Be wary!
There is also a possibility that those batteries don't get fully recognized by the defy and the batteries might not charge up to 100%
thanks for the warnings.
