I'm posting this thread to kinda get some opinions about the new Epic coming out this October. I personally can't wait because all of these developers put in hard work making these roms, kernels & themes for the Epic as is so it will be interesting to see their creativity.

Fact
- Biggest Screen to date
- Exynos Dual-core (was rumored Tegra 2 chipset)
- 16 GB internal storage
- 1800 mAh battery
- Unlocked bootloader
Opinion
- Wayy better than EVO 3D!!!! (& Photon)
- Screen is slightly big for myself...but I'll adapt, I'm sure.
- Ready to develop for it once I get a hold of it!

I traded my evo 4g for an evo 3d the same day it came out,
returned it at 29 days. I've been on a palm pre ever since, considered the photon but I preordered the gs2 yesterday because exynos was all I needed to hear.
besides that I'm definitely bringing some dev skills to the table. #savaged-zen lol
Great, im glad to see great devs just as ready for this phone as well. I'd love to learn how to make themes

Keyboard keyboard
The touch looks real nice but i cant stand the onscreen keyboard. it takes up OVER half of the screen as you type. i would give up the "thin-ness" anyday for the 5 row qwerty
Also the keyboarded phones compared to touch only phones show there is no noticable difference in battery life.

I'd be very surprised if they shipped it before the 16th.
I'm wondering how porting my number would work with the Walmart Wireless deal. I pre-ordered already through WireFly and filled in all my number porting from Verizon. I don't know how difficult it would be to get the phone normally from Walmart and then port my number after the fact. If I can get details on how easy it is to port without doing it during the ordering process, I might switch my pre-order to Walmart Wireless.
EDIT: I've switched my pre-order to the WalMart one.
But I'm not seeing the release date on the site.
Heres where i ordered the epic touch
walmart.letstalk.com/product/product.htm?prId=39607&corpId=522[/url]
Go directly to letstalk.com. the overnight shipping is free and you can put in a code "take20back" to get 20% off. If you start from the Walmart site it is slightly different and overnight shipping is $19.
I also confirmed twice, that if you are on a family plan and use one line to upgrade and want to switch phones after you receive the new phone to different number on same plan you can do it. As long as you call let's talk customer service/activation department to do the swap.

How, is there some coupon code? Or do you have a gift card or something.
I went to my local Best Buy and they were not taking pre orders. I asked one rep if I could just buy one on launch day without a pre order he told me "I'm 99% you can just walk in and buy one no problem."

Wow, I'm surprised Amazon is not keeping this exclusively to their site, but I suppose more vendors means more sales for them.
This changes everything. I happen to have a one hundred dollar Best Buy gift card. I am awfully tempted now...
Office Depot had signs up today, but I didn't see if they were taking pre-orders.
I highly doubt this, by the way, it's still not clear whether wifi in other countries will work for Kindle Fire, since those large treasures on Amazon is one big reason for me buying a KF
Just cancelled my Amazon preorder since they just announced that it will be available day one at retail. No need to wait 2 days for mine to ship when I can just walk in to a Best Buy on Tues at 9am and pick one up.
Know this is an old thread, but I'm looking to get one for Christmas and noticed they had them at my local Walmart. I want to play with one first. And the nook tablet too. Walmart had a nook display unit but all you can do is turn it on and see the "you must sign in and be connected to the internet to continue" screen, not a good demo.
My big dilemma is can a 7" screen replace my netbook?
I'm also thinking the slightly bigger and older Vizio tablet. Having a universal remote in the tablet is actually something I think I would use a lot.

One of the supervisors at my store (I work at Walmart) got the Vizio tablet when we had it on sale for 198 dollars and got the 10% discount on that. She says it's good for certain things, but the remote control thing is wonky.
Also, the Fire isn't designed to be a replacement for a netbook. My netbook is used for long-term keyboard use things -- IRC, writing, etc. The Fire is more for games and stuff. Although, the SwiftKey X hack makes it better...
I bought mine at Target yesterday.
I got mine at target.
Anyway It could possibly replace a notebook if they ever make a keyboard for it. If they did I would get it so fast cause then I could stop logging my 2004 laptop to school

I was meaning 7" vs 10" size difference more than functionality. I have a netbook to have a compact web browsing device, with good battery life. But my netbook's battery is broken, and charge port is wonky, so it won't always charge, and when it does it only lasts like 30 minutes. But, its out of warranty, so I am looking to replace with KF instead of fixing it. I have other computers laptop for full computing needs.
I played with a Nook Tablet, the screen wasn't as small as I thought it would be, seems well sized.
Those that got their KF at target or best buy did they have displays to use? I think I am leaning towards the KF to save the $50 over the Nook Tablet, but still want to use it before buying.
Then I saw the best buy black Friday ad ... 10" honeycomb Asus transformer tablet for $250. But I hate fighting black Friday crowds, especially best buy. I've sworn three times to never do best buy on black Friday ever again, but they keep luring me in.

so has anyone tried it with the nexus 4 yet? im interested but not sure if it works
heres the link to it:

I works. But the analog sticks suck and the buttons are hard to press.
I would recommend getting the Gameklip and a PS3 controller.

Right...people should buy phones just to call and nothing else right? Forget all the apps and data!!!!
I'm sure people play games among other things since the phone is capable of doing such things.
This. I like to enjoy everything with my smart phone. that's why I got it in the first place. I find playing games a bit difficult so I'm interested in these kinds of accessories. I know game klip is good but I'm considering the fact of portability.

They are aware of the issue but I hope you have your confirmation number, I have a feeling some of us will have to put up a small fight to get our controllers.
I checked my view order history and its on there now. So that was a few hours after I ordered. On twitter they mentioned as long as you have the order number that you go after you ordered they will honor it.
They did kind of a bait and switch but a company that size can't provide free everything. They said it will run till 12AM but "free" supplies ran out before then as they were limited in giving away the free stuff, website bogged down once every android site put it up and got pasted on slick deals. They change it to if you buy the controller ($50) you get free expedited shipping, which made a lot of people mad but what can you do, you can only have so many free things :silly:
Just checked mine and it finally showed up. I'm surprised people are so upset and angry about not getting one. They said it would be open for a certain period out time or until supplies last.

Bought one for full price. Works flawlessly for our phone, just a few things to note. One, it's super incompatible unless you download the third party unofficial driver. The stock one is awful. Works well with third party. Two, the sticks are awful. Just a pain to work with. But after a week I'm getting used to them. They're nubs. Only two shoulder buttons sticks.

I'm loving this new model, but yesterday I wasn't so sure, had a bit of scrolling lag, didn't seem particularly quick, its as if you have to let the device work for a while so it irons out its own little wrinkles, today this tablet has been super smooth, fast and responsive, last night I had a bit of buyers remorse, tonight I'm thinking this thing amazing, highly highly recommend to anyone thinking about it, and if your wondering if its enough of an upgrade from the 1st Nexus then yes... I couldn't go back at all, Google have tool a major step forward with this device, I'm really excites to see what the N10 will be like

Personally I don't think its worth the upgrade over the original. But if you have the extra $300 to burn it's a nice tablet. If poetic had their revolution case out I might hang on to mine but I find myself using my old 7 more than the new cause of the case and kickstand.

Well you sell your old one and offset the cost of the new one. ~$100 is worth the upgraded hardware to me.
I'm waiting for a case to come out and find the new one kinda slippery because it is so thin and the rubber is on all sides.
My concern is while the OG N7 is still kicking today, come October it might not fair so well.
I'm a device whore and just love tinkering so I factor that into the difference in cost too.

The thing is, (not that i'm rolling in money here), is that the OG N7 still has more utility than the $100 or so I would get for it. I could dedicate it as a tablet for the kitchen, "public" livingroom tablet, etc etc.
That being said, all I do is watch videos on mine, or maybe browse the internet. All that extra speed won't do me a whole lot of good, but damn did the new N7 feel good in the store.
For me it was a no-brainer upgrade. My 16 GB launch model had long since run out of space (had a 32 GB USB stick along to carry my PS1 games. Sold it on Amazon last week for $130. The $140 difference to upgrade size, screen, speakers, speed, and storage was well worth the cost.

google has implemented fsTRIM in 4.3. This will manage "garbage collection" during idle cycles and keep the eMMC from becoming slow, and in perhaps may be the reason it seems faster day two.
The caches take some time to settle down. That's the first lesson I learnt when doing cache wipes. So prolly after a bit of use and time, caches have built up and you're running good.

Anyone offering you below 200 Bucks doesn't know the first thing about this phone to be honest.
Or they know exactly what it's worth but try to haggle you down in order to resell it for a profit.
Long story short, don't sell for less than 200 if you really mean it.

This thread is a disappointment, I came here with my flame hat on just to discuss resale value.
Doesn't matter, it's still valuable for me because its still fast and function perfectly. If you buy a phone for its resale value, don't buy Nexus, get the latest iPhone instead.
I do like how the Galaxy Nexus is finally lowering in price, what a steal for $150 and install KitKat on it. I rather have affordable Nexus and it help drive down the unrealistic price for flagship devices as well.

Value? Are we talking about value or market value? I have a nexus 4 for some time now and I can assure It has economical value but, even more, an special value for me. For me was incredible to join this nexus family after selling my nexus 7 (I wasn't using it too much so I sold it).
I bought a Google phone for 299€. It had 4.2.1 when I got it, and it was the smoothest phone in the market. The design was amazing, simple, black, as google likes, with an amazing glass back case. The screen was sooo big compared with my xperia arc s (which was also big) and we could think it was going to have a worse resolution, but that xxxxxxhdpi 768 x 1280 pixel IPS LCD screen got me when it booted for the first time. A good 8mpx camera, a worse internal one, but not everything was going to be perfect. Anyway I made some amazing pics and good 1080p HD videos. An very powerful quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz combined with 2GB RAM did the rest. The adreno 320 graphic processor did the rest of the job when playing whatever games, and I was still noticing zero lag. When I learnt how to use it, the battery was good enough for me, and now even more with kit kat. I got latest features in a moment when NFC was just a concept, and just for 299€...
don't u think this is valuable?
Even if u compare it with the best phones out there, the nexus 4, after some time, is still amazing, gets latest updates and.... yes, it's in my opinion the most economical phone in the market.
This phone is valuable, and has an incredible value for me, because made me jump into another android level.
The real problem is Google kinda screwed us by selling the phone for 199/249 for like 3 days because people say, oh I could've bought a new one for 199.

i was thinking of selling and buying n5 too but i thought then i would be paying 200 on top of what i got for a phone that does nothing better than my current one
dont get me wrong n5 is incredible but if u already have the awesome n4 it doesnt make much sense to buy a new phone except to get the "latest"
Trolololed from my iPhone 5S
The N4 is so cheap to buy brand new that it is essentially disposable. I wouldn't go through the hassle of selling it just for $150-200, even if I get a new phone. I would just keep it as a backup and/or learn more about Android modding/development.
Selling a phone with our phone's specs for 200$ should be ilegal.
My brother got a new nexus 5 and I can assure you it is not worth it. It is better? Yes, of course, nobody is going to doubt that, so, if you have money and you like mobile phones yes, buy it, it is a great phone. If you, like me, aren't rich and have a nexus 4 please DON'T sell it for less than... 400$ (which is impossible) which should be it's real value. Trust me... our 4.4 binaries will arrive, and if you have the possibility to have a n4 and a n5 in both hands you will see that isn't worth it...
